General Information
The FD932DVD-LP-2-4B is designed as a replacement for the popular Flight Display Systems
FD932DVD-4B. The FD932DVD-4B was a full DIN size DVD player. The FD932DVD-LP-2-4B
includes a blanking plate to take up the space of the FD932DVD-4B to provide for a direct
replacement of the -4B without having to significantly modify the mounting location in the
aircraft. Please note that although this is identified as a replacement unit for the -4B there is a
slight width difference where the new FD932DVD-LP-2-4B is approximately an 1/8” wider than
the FD932DVD-4B which may require the mounting location to be slightly modified.
The FD932DVD-LP-2-AV is the same as the FD932DVD-LP-2-4B except for on difference:
RCA inputs are provided on the blanking plate for connecting an external video or audio
source. A switch lets the user select between the DVD player and the auxiliary input. The
selected source is then output to a monitor, speakers or CMS system.
Features
•Drop-In Replacement for FD932DVD-4B
•Easy access RCA inputs, (FD932DVD-LP-2-AV Only)
•Compatible with DVD/CD/SVCD/VCD/MP3
•Back-Lit Front Panel Buttons
•USB/SD Media Player
•2 Composite, NTSC/PAL Outputs
•Full Function Remote Control

Specifications
Installation Instructions
All cabin entertainment equipment, such as the FD932DVD-LP-2-4B and FD932DVD-LP-2-AV,
should be installed on a non-essential bus and have a dedicated circuit breaker. It is necessary
that a switch be installed in the cockpit so that the pilot can de-energize the entertainment system
should it become necessary.
Power
The FD932DVD-LP-2-4B & the FD932DVD-LP-2-AV require 28VDC rated at a minimum of
0.25 Amps to function.
The rated current of the equipment should be taken into consideration when selecting wire
gauge.
It is the installer’s responsibility to understand the product’s requirements and to install the
product in compliance with industry standards and safety.

Video Wiring Suggestions
Avoid routing video wiring parallel to:
•AC wiring
•Strobe wiring
•DC motor supply cables
•Inverter cabling
•Or any other potential noise source.
Composite and Audio Wiring
Recommended cable for composite and audio purposes is PIC 75 Ohm Coax, P/N
V75268. This is a lightweight, flexible, and low signal loss cable which meets FAA
flammability requirements of FAR 23.1359(d), FAR 25.853(a) and FAR 25.869(a)(4).
Similar aviation coaxial cable can be used from other vendors, as well.
Some aircraft are prone to AC noise – If noise is a problem, we recommend adding a 75
Ohm video isolation transformer to the composite source (such as Deerfield Laboratory,
Inc. PartNo.162-1, www.deerfieldlab.com, 650 632-4090). In most cases it should be
added to the video output near the source.
Power and Ground Wiring
22 AWG wire is recommended for Power and Ground applications.

Wiring Options
The FD932DVD-LP-2-4B & FD932DVD-LP-2-AV power & video/audio connections can be
wired two separate ways. The units can be wired using the DB-9 D-sub connection; or the
units can be wired using the 4 pin Molex connector and RCA jacks.

Option 2: Molex Connector and RCA
To replace an existing 28VDC FD932DVD-4B player, plug the existing Molex connector
into the rear panel Molex socket. Connect the RCA plugs to the RCA jacks on the rear
panel of the unit. To replace an existing 12VDC FD932DVD-4B, the Molex connector
should be rewired at 28VDC. To connect the unit for 28VDC, connect the yellow wire and
the red wire of the Molex connector to 28VDC (for redundancy the yellow and red
connections are connected internal to the unit). Connect the Black wire to 28VDC ground.

* There are two different ways to connect an auxiliary input device to the FD932DVD-LP-2-
AV. 1) Connecting RCA input plugs on the front panel of the unit can source any RCA
output device, or 2) Pins 11, 12 & 13 on the DB15 can connect to a Composite
Video/Audio source. Make connections for either the front panel RCA jacks or for the rear
panel aux inputs, not both at the same time. When the switch on the front panel is set to
AUX, whichever connection has been made will be sourced on output pins 6, 7 & 8.

Remote Eye
The FD932DVD-LP-2-4B & FD932DVD-LP-2-AV have an available remote IR sensor
(“remote eye”) that can be used to accept remote signals in addition to the main unit. For
instance, the remote eye can be mounted by a monitor, to allow both the monitor and the
DVD player to be controlled by pointing the remote at the same spot.
The remote eye measures 1.05” (27mm) x 0.68” (17mm) x 0.28” (7mm), and can be
extended 10 feet from the FD932DVD-4B.

Operation Instructions
To power the unit up, press the power button. The unit will light up and display a Flight
Display Systems logo on the display(s). Insert a CD or DVD into the slot, with label side
up (away from the controls, if mounted vertically). The CD or DVD will load and
automatically begin to play. The FD932DVD-LP-2-4B & FD932DVD-LP-2-AV will
remember its volume setting when powered down.
Note: CDs and DVDs are recorded at different levels, so it is normal for DVDs to be
quieter than CDs at the same volume setting.

Troubleshooting
Video Noise
Check for an incorrect ground in the installation wiring. See specific examples of video
noise below, or visit http://flightdisplay.com/Grounding.pdf
Snow or Sweeping Lines
Lines that slowly sweep up and down are a result of AC noise. This AC noise can be
generated by a power cart on the aircraft. Take the power cart off of the aircraft. Be careful
of inverter wiring, which can also cause noise. Stand off the wires, if necessary.
If snow or sweeping lines persist, it is possible that the ground is at an incorrect point in the
aircraft. Try moving the ground to another location.
Remote Control Inoperable
•Confirm that the infrared eye on the unit, or the external IR sensor (if applicable), is
visible.
•Replace battery in remote control.
