INTRODUCTION
Prior to Revision L of the Jandy quaLink® RS, the quaLink® RS could control the Hayward®/GoldLine qua Rite®
through the control panel ( quaLink® One Touch™, quaLink® PD , or quaLink® Touch™). Revision L and forward,
Jandy has chosen to no longer control the qua Rite® through the control panel. The Chlorinator Translator permits the
quaLink® RS to control the qua Rite® through the control panel without modifying either the quaLink® RS or the
qua Rite®.
The Chlorinator Translator is designed to allow the quaLink® RS to communicate with your chlorine generation system.
This permits the ability to control chlorine level and SUPER CHLORIN TE (Boost Pool). The Chlorinator Translator also
reports error(s) back to the quaLink® RS. Refer to your quaLink® RS manual on how it shows you errors. Read your
chlorine generation system manual on how to use it.
OPERATION
If you are installing your chlorine generation system for the first time, do this FIRST, following manufacturer’s installation
instructions. fter the chlorine generation system is properly installed, the Chlorinator Translator may be installed.
DO NOT CONNECT YOUR AQUALINK® RS TO THE AQUA RITE® AT THIS TIME.
The Chlorinator Translator has a Link Status LED. When the LED is blinking the Chlorinator has power and is functioning,
but there is no active communication with quaLink® RS or qua Rite®. Once the quaLink® RS and qua Rite®
communication is established, the Link Status will be solid. lso, the quaLink® RS or Remotely Controlled LED on the
qua Rite® will be lit. You can now control your qua Rite® through the quaLink® RS control panel.

Depending on the revision of the Chlorinator Translator hardware and software, the lights have the following meaning:

Appendix A
s of quaLink® RS Rev T (PD Rev is not known at this time), Zodiac has added a feature to prevent (by locking) the
controller from communicating with any chlorinator, including their own product, quaPure™. The controller will report
“NOT COMP TIBLE”. The Chlorinator Translator will detect this and will attempt to unlock the controller. Following are
the steps taken, approximate times, and what visual indicators you will see.
1) Chlorinator Translator is blinking green, red and blue: fter about 15 seconds in this state, it is determined that
the controller is locked and the Chlorinator Translator proceeds to step 2. However, there is a limit on the
number of times the Chlorinator Translator will unlock your controller. Once this limit is reached, the
Chlorinator Translator will continue to blink green, red and blue. Please contact Flynn Engineering, LLC for a
solution.
2) Chlorinator Translator is blinking red and the “ UTO” LED on the controller panel is solid: In approximately 30
seconds the “ UTO” LED will start to blink. In another 30 seconds the “ UTO” LED will be solid again.
3) bout 20 seconds later the Chlorinator Translator will have a solid green light. If not, refer to the Figure 1 Chart.
4) Once the unlocking process is complete, power cycle the quaLink® RS for it to run your pool’s program.
quaLink® RS, quaLink® One Touch™, quaLink® PD , quaLink® Touch™ and quaPure™ are by Jandy/Zodiac
qua Rite® is by Hayward®/GoldLine Controls Inc.
