Caché 200 loudspeakers. Benefiting from
over 20 years of experience in the
loudspeaker and drive units markets,
the Caché 200 products incorporate
many unique Focal-JMlab technologies.
The cone membranes of the drive units
employed use our Polyglass technology:
hollow microspheres of glass are deposited
onto the cone surface to give a natural
timbre free from coloration.
Combining precision, transient speed
and smoothness the inverted dome tweeter,
with its unrivalled mechanical coupling
between voice coil and dome, uses the latest
generation Tioxid 5 surface treatment to
optimise damping.
Perhaps most importantly of all,
in respect to the Caché 200 products,
is the unique Focal-JMlab wall boost equalization circuit. This equalization corrects the upper bass
boost resulting from in-wall placement that would otherwise cause an effect called "masking". By
correcting this effect, a deep tuneful bass and uncoloured upper bass are resolved.
Caution
To ensure optimal performance from your Caché 200 loudspeakers, we highly recommend that
installation is carried out by a professional. They will be able to advise on the best placement within
your listening environment and adjust your system to achive the highest possible sound quality.

Positioning
Your Caché 200 loudspeakers use an exclusive filtering process known as OPC (Optimum Phase
Crossover) guaranteeing a perfect stereo image and outstanding sound definition. Additionally, in order
to reduce the "wall effect" inherent to any built in speaker, we have developed a wall boost equalization
circuit which corrects this phenomenon and makes it easier to position your speakers to suit your
preferences.
Hi-fi configuration
The ideal position for your loudspeakers is at ear height or slightly above. For optimal stereo, ensure
that you conserve a minimum distance of 1.5m between the speakers (as shown in figures 2.1 and 2.2).
The ideal listening position is situated at the top of an isocele or equilateral triangle. In simple terms,
you should ensure that your listening distance from the speakers is not less than the distance between
the two speakers.

Home theater configuration
The performance of a home theater system is determined by its location and set-up. In a well installed
and set-up system sound effects should follow the screen action to give a convincing impression of
"being there". To achieve this, you should observe the location diagram as shown in figure 2.3:
a - use of in-wall speakers for the surround effects sound
b - use of in-ceiling speakers for the surround effects sound
Center channel
Where a projection screen is being used, position the speaker behind this if it is a dedicated perforated
acoustically transparent screen or underneath if it is not.
The Caché products are not screened, so if you intend to use a conventional television to display your
video images, you should first test the safe distance between the loudspeaker and your specific television.
Modern plasma screens are not suseptable to magnetic radiation, so in this case it is recommended
that the center loudspeaker is positioned as close as possible for the best correlation between image and
sound.

Installation
1. This should be carried out after all of the cables have been fitted. We recommend that you use a
marked cable in order to conserve the polarity of the speakers (+/-).
2. Existing construction:
Cut the dry wall using the template supplied (please see diagram).
Be sure to check that this is perfectly vertical using a spirit level before
you begin cutting.
Check construction plans of your room to make sure that you are
not drilling into a pipe, an electrical cable or any other specialised
installations behind the wall.
New construction:
a. Use the dedicated Caché 200 mounting kit.
b. Route the connection cables before installing the plasterboard.
c. Ensure that the speakers are connected before installing them into the wall!
d. The loudspeaker is firmly fixed into the wall using a system of clamps.To achieve this, place the
speaker into the cut-out and tighten the fixing screws in a clockwise direction using the 3mm
hexagonal key.

5. Adjustment of tweeter level
To carry out adjustments, use the switch located on the front baffle of the speaker as follows:
6. Painting
If you wish, you can paint your speaker to match your room. We advise that you paint the grille and
the housing of the speaker separately.
For the frame: remove the grille and place the paint mask in position to protect the drivers.
For the grille: if necessary remove the driver mask from the grille before painting.
You can put this mask back into position after drying if you wish.
Conditions of guarantee
All Focal-JMlab loudspeakers are covered by guarantee drawn up by the offical Focal-JMlab distributor
in your country.
Your distributor can provide all details concerning the conditions of guarantee. Guarantee cover extends
at least to that granted by the legal guarantee in force in the country where the original purchase invoice
was issued.
