• Destroycarton,plasticbags,andanyexteriorwrappingmaterialimmediately
aftertherefrigeratorisunpacked.Childrenshouldneverusetheseitemsforplay.
Cartons covered with rugs, bedspreads, plastic sheets or stretch wrap may
becomeairtightchambersandcanquicklycausesuffocation.
• Remove all staples from the carton. Staples can cause severe cuts and destroy
finishesiftheycomeincontactwithotherappliancesorfurniture.
• Anempty,discardedicebox,refrigeratororfreezerisaverydangerousattraction
to children. Remove the door of any appliance that is not in use, even if
itis being discarded.
ElectricalInformation
These guidelines must be followed to ensure that safety mechanisms in the
design of this refrigerator will operate properly.
•The refrigerator must be plugged into its own 115 Volt, 60 Hz, AC only
electrical outlet. The power cord of the appliance is equipped with a 3-prong
grounding plug for your protection against shock hazards. It must be plugged
directly into a properly grounded 3-prong receptacle. The receptacle must be
installed in accordance with local codes and ordinances. Consult a qualified
electrician. Do not use an extension cord or an adapter plug.
• If voltagevariesby10 percent ormore,performanceofyour refrigeratormaybe
affected. Operating the refrigerator with insufficient power can damage the
compressor.Suchdamageisnotcovered under yourwarranty.Ifyoususpectyour
voltageishighorlow,consultyourpower company for testing.
• Topreventtherefrigeratorfrombeingturnedoffaccidentally,donotplugtheunit
intoanoutletcontrolledbyawallswitchorpullcord.
• Do not pinch, knot, or bend the powercord in any manner.
Other Precautions
• Never unplugtherefrigeratorby pullingonthepowercord. Alwaysgrip theplug
firmlyandpullstraightoutfromthereceptacle.
• Toavoidelectricalshock,unplugthe refrigerator before cleaningandbefore
replacing a light bulb. NOTE: Turning the control to OFF turns off the
compressor,butdoesnotdisconnect power to thelightbulborotherelectrical
components.
• Donotoperatetherefrigeratorin the presence of explosivefumes.
• If the refrigerator has an automatic ice maker, avoid contact with any moving
parts.

FirstSteps Before starting the refrigerator, follow these important first steps:
Location
• Choose a place that is near a grounded electrical outlet.Do Not use an
extensioncordoranadapter plug.
• Ifpossible,placetherefrigeratoroutofdirectsunlightandawayfromtherange,
dishwasherorotherheat sources.
• The refrigerator must be installed on a floor that is level and strong enough
tosupportafullyloadedrefrigerator.
• Considerwatersupplyavailability for modelsequippedwithanautomatic ice
maker.
Installation
• Do not install the refrigerator where temperature will drop below 60°F (15°C)
or rise above 110°F (43°C). The compressor will not be able to maintain proper
temperatures.
• Allow space around the unit for good air circulation. Leave a 1 inch (25 mm)
space behind and a 3 inch (75 mm) space above the refrigerator for adequate
circulation.
• In a recessed installation, allow an extra 1/2 inch (10-15 mm) on each side, for
ease of installation.
• For best circulation, elevate the unit 1 inch (25 mm) from the floor, especially if
the floor is carpeted.
Door Opening
The doors should open to allow easy access to a counter when removing food.
• Donotposition therefrigeratorsoyouhave towalkaroundthe refrigerator
doors.
• Reversethedoorsifnecessary.See"DoorReversalInstructions."
Leveling
Allfourcornersoftherefrigeratormustrestfirmlyonasolidfloor.
To adjust front rollers:
1. Open refrigerator door and remove Toe Grille. (Figure 1)
2. Use an adjustable wrench to adjust rollers. (Figure 2)
3. Turn Roller Adjusting Bolt clockwise to raise and counter-clockwise to lower.
Raise the front of cabinet enough so doors will close freely when opened
halfway.
4. Level cabinet side to side.
5. Replace Toe Grille. (Figure 1)
Cleaning
• Wash the inside, all removable parts and the outside with mild detergent and
warm water. Wipe dry. Do not use harsh cleaners on these surfaces.
• Do not use razor blades or other sharp instruments which can scratch the
appliancesurface,whenremovingadhesivelabels. Any glue leftfromthetape
or energy label can be removed with a mixture of warm water and
mild detergent, or, touch the residue with the sticky side of tape already
removed.
•Do not remove the serial plate.
To Remove Toe grille: Grip sides of Toe
Grille and pull straight off.
To Replace Toe Grille: Line up clips with
holes and push straight on.

• Locatetherefrigeratorinthecoolestpartoftheroom,outofdirectsunlightand
awayfromheating ductsorregisters.Donotplacetherefrigeratornext toheat-
producingappliancessuchasarange,ovenordishwasher.Ifthisisnotpossible,
asectionof cabinetryoranadded layerofinsulationbetweenthe twoappliances
willhelptherefrigeratoroperatemoreefficiently.
• Leveltherefrigeratorsothedoorsclosetightly.
• RefertothisOwner'sGuideforthesuggestedrefrigeratorsettings.
• Periodiccleaningof thecondenserwillhelptherefrigeratorrun more
efficiently.SeeOutside inthe"CareandCleaning" section.
• Do not overcrowd the refrigerator or block cold air vents.Doing socauses
therefrigeratortorunlongerandusemoreenergy.Shelvesshouldnotbelined
withaluminumfoil,waxpaperorpaper toweling. Liners interfere with cold air
circulation, making the refrigerator less efficient, which could cause food
spoilage.
• Coverfoodsandwipecontainersdrybeforeplacingthemintherefrigerator.This
cutsdownonmoisturebuild-upinside the unit.
• Organize the refrigerator to reduce door openings. Remove as many items as
needed at one time and close the door as soon as possible.
Energy Saving Ideas
Setting the Controls Cool Down Period
Toensuresafefoodstorage, allowtherefrigeratortooperatewiththedoors closed
foratleast8to12hoursbeforeloadingwithfood.
Refrigerator and Freezer Controls
• Whenfirstsetting thecontrolsorwhenchangingasetting, wait24hoursfor the
temperaturetostabilizebefore making additionalchanges.
Temperatures
• After 24 hours, adjust the controls as needed. Adjust temperatures one
increment at a time.
• For colder temperatures, turn the dial a notch towards COLDER.
• For warmer temperatures, turn the dial a notch towards WARMER. The
temperature will increase, but not necessarily by 1,2, or 3°.
Turningtherefrigeratorcontrolmaychangetemperaturesinbothcompartments.For
example,iftherefrigeratorcontrolisturnedtoacoldersetting,thefreezercontrol
may have to be adjusted to a warmer one. Turning the freezer control will change
onlythefreezertemperature.
To maintain temperatures, a fan circulates air in the refrigerator and freezer
compartments.Forgoodcirculation,do not blockcoldairventswithfood items.
IMPORTANT: If the refrigerator control is turned to OFF, cooling stops in both
compartments.
Moisture Reduction Switch (some models)
If moisture forms on the metal between the two doors, set the Moisture Reduction
Switch (located on the control box in the refrigerator compartment) to the "ON"
position.A heater will warm the surface and allow moisturetoevaporate.

Doorbinsandshelvesprovideconvenientstorageofjars,bottles,andcans.Itemsused
oftenareavailableforquickselection.
Thedoorbinscanbemovedtosuitindividualneeds.Removebinsbyliftingstraightup.
Placebinsinthedesiredpositionandloweroverthesupports.
The Dairy Compartment(s) is warmer than the general food storage section and is
intendedforshorttermstorageofcheese,spreads,orbutter.
Tall Bottle Retainer (some models)
TheTallBottleRetainer keeps tallcontainersinthebinfrom falling forwardwhen
openingorclosingtherefrigeratordoor.Toinstall,holdtheretaineratthetop,and
slideitovertheoutsidewallofthe bin,asshown. Notethatthe retainerworksbest
with the use of a bin snugger.
Micro-Serve Dishes (some models)
Food can be stored, cooked*, and served in Micro-Serve Dishes provided in some
models.Thesedishesslide easilyintotheirowntray, whichhangsbelowadoor bin,
convenientlyfreeingshelfspaceforotheritems.NOTE:Donothangtraybelowthebin
infrontoftheicemaker.
* Removeplasticlidbeforecooking.Lidisintendedforstorageonly.
Crispers
TheCrispers,locatedunderthebottomrefrigeratorshelf,aredesignedforstoringfruits,
vegetables,andotherfreshproduce.Washitemsinclearwaterandremoveexcesswater
beforeplacingintheCrispers.Itemswithstrongodors or high moisture should be
wrappedbeforestoring.
TheHumidityControlsallowyou toadjustthehumiditywithinthe Crisper. Thiscan
extendthelifeoffreshvegetableswhichkeepbestinhighhumidity.Leafyvegetables,
however,keepbestwhen storedwiththeHumidityControl setonhighmoisture,or in
a drawer without a Humidity Control. This keeps incoming air to a minimum and
maintainsmaximummoisturecontent.
Meat Keeper (some models)
The temperature in the Meat Keeper drawer can be made colder than the rest of
the refrigerator compartment by adjusting the Chilled Air Control. Meat will be
partiallyfrozenandmaybekeptfreshlonger thanifstoredonarefrigeratorshelf.
BeforeplacingitemsintheMeat Keeper, follow thesestepstokeepthemeat fresh:
• Carefully handle meat with clean hands and always keep the compartment clean.
• Storemeatinitsoriginalwrapper.Ifnecessary,overwrapinplasticwraporfoil
topreventdrying.Wrapfishtightlytopreventodortransfertootherfoods.
• Ifspoilageeveroccurs,disinfectthecompartmentwithliquidchlorinebleach
followinglabeldirections.Then,rinsewithasolutionofbakingsodaandwater.Rinse
withclearwateranddry.
SHELF ADJUSTMENT
Refrigeratorshelvesareeasilyadjusted tosuitindividualneeds.Somemodelshave
slidingshelves ,othershave cantilevershelves .Beforeadjusting
shelves,removeallfood.Theshippingclipsthatstabilizethe
shelves for shipping may be removed and discarded.
Toadjust cantilevershelves (shelvessupportedattherearofthe
refrigerator),liftthebackoftheshelfupandout.Replaceshelf
byinsertinghooksatrearintoslots.Lowerandlockintoposition.

glassshelves(somemodels)catchandholdaccidental
spills.Insomemodels,the SpillSafe
TM
shelvesslideoutforeasy
access to food and fast cleaning. The shelves slide out
independentlyofthecantileverbrackets.Justpullfrontofshelf
forward.Shelfcanbeextended as far asstopperwillallow.

TheChilledAirDuct,whichdistributescoldairtotheMeatKeeperdrawer,canbe
adjustedto accommodaterepositioningoftheshelf.However,theshelfhasalimited
rangeofpositionsinwhichtheChilledAirDuctwillreach.
The Chilled Air Duct can also switch sides, should you wish to move the split
cantilevershelf.Tochangesides:
• Remove the Meat Keeper drawer and shelf. Grasp the air duct near top and
slidetowardyou untilductisfree fromgrooves.
• Slideoffholecoveronoppositeside.Insertthelipoftheairductingroovesofnew
holeandslideback.
• Slideholecoveroveroriginalhole.
• Replaceshelfandinsert drawer.
WINE RACK (SOME MODELS)
TheWineRackstoresbottlesofwine,or2-
literplasticbottlesofjuiceorsodapop.To
install,slidethewinerackontotheshelfwith
the curve facing in. To remove, slide the
winerackout.

Care and Cleaning Keepyourrefrigeratorandfreezer cleantopreventodorbuild-up. Wipeupanyspills
immediately and clean both sections at least twice a year. Never use metallic
scouringpads,brushes,abrasivecleanersorstrongalkalinesolutionsonanysurface.
Do not wash any removable parts in a dishwasher.
Always unplug the power cord from the wall outlet before cleaning. Turning
the refrigerator control to OFF does not disconnect power to the controls, light
bulb, or other electrical components.
Inside
Wash inside surfaces of the refrigerator and freezer with a solution of 2
tablespoons baking soda in 1 quart warm water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Be sure
to wring excess water out of sponge or cloth before cleaning around the
controls, light bulb, or any electrical parts.
Wash removable parts such as shelves and drawers with baking soda solution or
mild detergent and warm water. Do not use harsh cleaners on these surfaces.
Rinseand dry thoroughly. Clean the door gaskets with mildsuds, rinse with clear
water and wipe dry. Do not use razor blades or other sharp instruments which
can scratch the appliance surface when removing adhesive labels. Any glue left
from the tape or energy label can be removed with a mixture of warm water and
milddetergent,or,touchthe residue withthestickysideoftape already removed.
Do not remove the serial plate.
Outside
Wash the cabinet and handles with warm water and mild liquid detergent. Rinse
well and wipe dry with a clean soft cloth. Do not use commercial household
cleaners, ammonia, or alcohol to clean handles.
Remove any dust or dirt from the front of the toe grille using a vacuum cleaner
withitsdustingtoolattachment. Remove thetoegrillebypullingit straight out.
While the grille is removed, vacuum the backside of the grille and wipe with a
sudsy cloth or sponge. Periodically clean the condenser (black tubes and wires
beneath the refrigerator, behind the toe grille). Do not allow lint or dust to
accumulateonthecoils.Insertalonghandledbrushorvacuum attachment between

surfaces with wet or damp hands.

Use caution when cleaning in the area of the coils. Surfaces there
may be sharp.
Theairventsontheloweraccesspanelattherearoftherefrigeratorshouldbecleaned
periodically. Clean the vents by using a vacuum cleaner with its dusting tool
attachment. When moving the refrigerator, pull straight out. Do not shift the
refrigeratorfromsidetosideasthismaytearorgougethefloorcovering. If the
refrigerator has an automatic ice maker, be careful not to move the refrigerator
beyond plumbing connections.
Replacing the Light Bulb
To replace the light bulb:
1. Unplugtherefrigerator.
2. Wear gloves as protection against possible broken glass.
3. Replace old bulb with an appliance bulb of the same wattage.
4. Remember to plug the refrigerator back in.
Vacation and Moving Tips
Short vacations:
•Leave the refrigerator operating during vacations of 1 to 3 weeks.
• Useupallperishableitemsfromtherefrigeratorsection.
• Wrap and store other items in the freezer. If the unit has an automatic ice
maker, turn off the ice maker.
Long vacations:
• Remove all food and ice if you will be gone 1 month or more.
• Turn the refrigerator control to OFF and disconnect the power. If the unit has
an automatic ice maker, turn off the ice maker and turn the water supply valve
totheclosedposition.
• Defrostandcleantheinteriorthoroughly.
• Leave both doors open to prevent odor and mold buildup. Block open if
necessary.
Moving:
When moving the refrigerator, follow these guidelines to prevent damage:
• Remove all food and other items from both the refrigerator and freezer
compartments. Empty the ice storage bin. Defrost and clean the interior
thoroughly.
• Ifahand truckisusedinmoving,loadtherefrigeratorfromthe side.
• Turnfrontrollersasfarup as possible. Thiswillprotectthemduringsliding
or moving.
• The cabinet should be well padded and handled with care. DO NOT DROP.
To avoid damage and help
therefrigeratorrunasefficientlyas
possible, clean the condenser and air
ventsperiodically.
Automatic Ice Maker
Remember, water quality
determinesyouricequality. Itisbestto
connecttheicemakertowaterthatisnot
softened. Chemicalsfroma malfunction-
ing softener can damage the ice maker.
Ificemakerisconnectedtosoftwater,
ensure the softener is maintained and
workingproperly.
Ifyourrefrigeratorhasanautomaticicemaker,itwillprovideacontinuoussupplyof
ice for normal use. The automatic ice maker is an optional accessory which may be
installedinmostmodelsatanytime.Callyourlocaldealerforinstallation.
After the plumbing connections have been completed, the water supply valve must
be opened. Place the ice container under the ice maker, pushing it as far back as
possible. Lower the wire signal arm to its “down” or ON position. Because of new
plumbingconnections,thefirstproduction oficecubes maybediscoloredorhavean
oddflavor. Theseshouldbediscarded untilthecubesmadearefreeofdiscoloration
andtaste.
Tostoptheicemaker, lift thewiresignalarmuntilitclicksand locks in the“up”
orOFFposition.Theicemakerturnsoffautomaticallywhentheicecontainerisfull.
Ifyourmodel hasanadjustablefreezer shelf,placetheshelf sothewiresignal arm
willhittheicewhentheicecontainerisfull.

• Ice stored too long may develop an odd flavor. Empty the container and be sure
thewiresignalarmisinits"down"orONposition.The icemakerwillthenproduce
moreice.
• Occasionallyshakethecontainer tokeepiceseparated.
• Keep the wire signal arm in its "up" or OFF position until the refrigerator is
connected to the water supply or whenever water supply is turned off.
•Certain sounds are normal when the ice maker is operating. They are:

• Wash ice container in warm water with mild detergent. Rinse well and dry.
• Stoptheicemakerwhencleaningthefreezerorfor short vacations.
• Iftheice makerwillbeturnedofffora longperiodoftime,turnthewater supply
valvetotheclosedposition.
If it is necessary to move the refrigerator through narrow doorways, follow
these steps to remove the handles and/or refrigerator and freezer doors.
Usecarewhen usingtoolsnearsurface ofstainlesssteeldoors toavoid
scratching.
To Remove Handles
1. Keep a firm hold on handle while removing screws, so handle does not fall. To
loosen or remove set screws, use a 3/32" allen wrench.
NOTE: Remember to save the screws
2. Remove handle.
3. To remove shoulder screws, use a 3/8" open end wrench.
4. Repeatthesestepsforeachhandle.
To Reinstall Handles
Reversehandleremovalinstructions.
NOTE: Do not tighten shoulder screws too tight.
To Remove Doors
Beforeremovingdoors,besurefreezercontrolisturnedtoOFF.Remove allfoodfrom
doors.Unplugrefrigerator.Removetoegrille.
Tracearoundhingeswithasoftleadpencil.Thiswillmakeiteasiertorealigndoors
whenthey are replaced. Completely remove one door before starting to remove the
other.

1. Snap off hinge
cover at top of
cabinet (some
models). With the
freezer door closed,
remove the three
screws attaching
upper hinge to
cabinet. NOTE:
Hinge has minimal
spring tension. Hold
bracket when removing last screw. Lift the hinge up and
off. Be sure to save screws and hinge for reassembly
later.
NOTE: Some models have “pocket”
handles,whichare recessedintothe
sides of the door. On these models,
only the hinges will need to be re-
versed.

plastic toe grill
(some models)
from front of
refrigerator by
pulling straight
forward. Remove
the two hex head
bolts attaching the
lower hinge. Save
the hinge and
washer(s) for
reassembly.
2. Open the freezer
door enough to allow
it to be lifted off the
center hinge. Hinge
pin may stick in spin
bearing. Use pliers to
remove hinge pin.
4. Remove hole plugs
fromthenon-hingeside
ofthefollowing:
 the top of the
cabinet
 the top of the
freezer door
 the third, outer-
most screw hole
in center mullion
Reinstallonopposite
side. If damaged from removal, use new plugs included in
literaturepack (somemodels).
3. With the
refrigerator door
closed, remove
center hinge pin.
(Note the
arrangement of the
upper and lower
washers (some
models) on the hinge
pin. The washers
must be reassembled
later in the same
manner.) Open refrigerator door enough to allow door to be
lifted off the lower hinge. Remove the two screws attaching
the center hinge. The third outermost screw under the
center hinge should be left in place. Save hinge, pin, and
washers (some models) for reassembly later. Reinstall
screws in original holes.

Install washer(s) on
the lower hinge pin.
Yourrefrigeratorisequipped withconvertibledoorhinges.Hinging of thedoorcan
be changed to the opposite side any time you wish. An envelope containing extra
plasticholeplugsis includedinsomemodels. Turntherefrigeratorcontrolto OFF.
Remove all food, bottles, and other items from the door. Beginwith freezer door.
Completely remove one door before beginning the other.
