INSTALLATION
Install the CP-31 ona table or desktop.Allow adequate height for gravity drains to operate
properly.Avoid placing itonthe floor.
Level the CP-31 on yourworksurface.
Do not move the CP-31once itis filled with solution.Place the CP-31 ontheright side of
the enlarger to facilitate opening ofthe cover shield.
Set 1/2 gallon containers onthe floor andputthe respective overflow hoseeachintoeach
containers.

PREOPERATION CHECK AND CLEANING OF BATH
Before operation,check the unit's
operation by using hot water.This
work includes the cleaning ofthe
bath.

Unpacking:
Take outthe mainbody and
accessories from the case, install
as described in page 4 and check
to seeifall parts are complete.

Remove partsfrommainbody.
Remove the parts inthe order of
the uppercover,inletrack, No. 1,2
cross-over guide andtheNo. 1,2,3
racks. Remove the cross-over
guide by pulling upthe leftside as
shown bythe arrowmark in Fig. 2.

Put hot water inand performlevel
adjustment. Puthot water in which
is 1C deg- 2 C deg higherthan the
processing temperature uptothe
levelline of eachbath and adjust
the mainbody with the level
adjustingscrewuntil itis level. Do
not usehot water of morethan 50
Cdeg.

drain isfor drainingwater which
has entered the gear box during
cleaning.
Actuate the mainbody.
Connect powercord tothe power
source, turnpowerswitch ONand
check ifthe drivemotor and
agitationpump are operating
properly. "Donot heatwithout
solution!". Neverturn the power
switch ON without water or solution
in eachbath. The unit is working
properly ifthe driveshaftstarts to
turnslowly and waterspoutsfrom
the agitation nozzle.
® StandbyMechanism.
The drivemotor andthe
agitationpump will operate
continuously for about 45
minutesafter turning power
switch ONand thenoperate
intermittently for3 seconds at
an interval of15 seconds.(This
will stop automatically and
return to continuousoperation
when developing). To cancel
standby, turn powerswitch
OFF and then ON again.
Next, setthe temperature forthe
solution.Proceed tothe page
below for settingsolution
temperature with hot water
contained inthe bath.

CAUTIONS:
BEFORE SETTING THE TEMPERATURE, BE SURE TO POWER ONTHE UNITFOR10
MINUTES FOR BATTERY CHARGING. THE UNITSHOULD BE FILLEDWITH HOT WATER
WHEN THE POWER ISON.
CP-31 Digital TemperatureRead Out Error:
You may have the problemthat the digital temperaturedisplaymalfunctions.This isduetothe
discharging of Nicd batterylocated atthe temperaturePCB.Thisbattery is automatically
chargingwhile the unit isinuse (powerswitch ison) however ifthe unit is longunattended, the
battery is discharged.
To restorethissituation,switch onthe unit for about 10 minutes to make the batterystart to
charge and follow the steps onhowto reset.
WARNING: Be sure to pourwater to eachbathbeforeswitching onthe unit.
How to ResetTemperature:
1 .Switch onthe unit for about 1Q
minutes.
2.Pull outthe frontdrawer and push
the resetbuttonwith a finestick Isee
figurel. Now resetting is completed
and actualtemperaturedisplays on
the panel.
3.Push inthe frontdrawer.
4.Do the temperaturesettingagain
from the first stage as instructed in
the manual.
5.Make sure the small letters onthe bottom ofthe displaypanelare:
THERMOMETER TEMP. CONTROLLER,!} POINT
Ifyou find the letteM_at H location, you have to "Reset" again and repeat the sametemperature
setting from the firststage as instructed inthe manual.

Use hot waterinstead of processing solution when setting the temperature of solution.
Temperaturesetting is performed bythe controlpanel forthe firstbath andthe control boxfor
the second and thirdbath.
Oncetemperature is set, itisnot necessary to makefurthersettings.

removed andhot water isinthe
bath. The power switch is turned
ON.

(A) Continuously press theset
button for morethan 2 seconds, the
set temperature will be displayed
with a maximumvalue of 50cC
indicatingHIGH SET (warning
Temperature) ontheLCD display.
Next, press V (DOWN) ofthe
solution temperature set button and
set the upper limit value oftheset
temperature. The value will change
0.1 QC everytime theset button is
pressed and continuouspressing will
keep changing the value.

(D) When theset button is pressedagain, the temperaturewhich was displayed will beset
(memorized) asthe lower limit and will display ontheLCDas shown bythe arrowmark inthe
drawing at right. To change theset temperature,repeat the procedures of(A)~ (D).

Setting the temperature ofthe No.2,3bathsolution. The temperature oftheNo.2 and3 bath
solution are shippedwith the temperature setat about33oC,With the exception of high
temperature processing,most ofthe bleaching and fixing canbe used in thiscondition.Minute
adjustment ofthe solutiontemperature canbe performed by turning the temperaturesetting
dial ina clockwise direction to raise the temperature and counterclockwise to lower the

a screw-driver,turn the temperature
setting dial ofthe No.2 and3 bath in
a counter-clockwise direction until it
stops. (Fig.2)
(B) Check the temperature ofthe
No.2 and3 bath with a thermometer.
The solutiontemperaturepilotlamp
isoffat thistime.
(C)The temperature ofhot water
which wasputinthe bath as
described in Section 1of page 8has
dropped slightly. Ifthe temperature
is lowerthan the temperature ofthe
thermometerwhich istobe set,then
turn the temperature setting dial of
that, bath fully ina clockwise
direction. The solution temperature
pilotlamp will light.Wait until the
solutionreaches theset
temperature.(Fig.3)
(D) When the temperature ofthe
solution reaches theset
temperature,turn the temperature
settingdial of thatbathslowlyback
ina counter-clockwisedirection and
stop where the solutiontemperature
pilotlampgoesoff.(Fig.4)

After the temperature ofthe solution
is set,continue to checktemperature
for about 5 minutes tosee whether
the solution has stabilized.Setting is
completed ifthe pilotlamp
repeatedlyblinkswithin the range of
+/-0.2 C deg. oftheset temperature.
"Caution! Temperatureexceeding 50
C deg. is strictly prohibited!".
Avoid setting of temperature to
exceed 50C deg.

Operations which are described in PREOPERATIONCHECK AND CLEANING OF BATH to SETTING THE
TRANSPORT SPEED completes the settings, but beforepouring inthe processingsolution, pre-check
developingoperationwithwater.

Mount each part tothe mainbody. After makingsure
that water isinthe bath, mount theNo. 1,2,3 racks,
No.1,2 cross-over guides and then the inlet rack tothe
main body. Plug inthe connector ofthe inlet rack tothe
connector ofthe mainbody.Water will overflow slightly
when the rack is mounted.Turnpowerswitch ON.

Check the feeding of paper. Insert theRC paperwith
the emulsionsurfacefacing up. Position the paper
along the guide ofthe inlet rack into the center ofthe
roller. The paper will advanceslowlyinto the bath and
thencome out from the outlet ofthe mainbody.
Runningpaperclean up sheetsthrough the machine
cleans the transportrollers.Clean up sheetsshould be
run beforeeach developing session.

Mounting of uppercover.Mount the uppercover tothe
mainbody by matching the holes (2 holes) atthe left
side ofthe uppercover tothe positioningpins (2 pcs) at
the leftside ofthe main body.Open the cover shield
and insert the paperwith thefilm surfacefacing up
from the paper guide and makesure the papersensor
lamp lights onthe controlpanel. The paper will come
out slowlyfrom the paperoutlet ofthe mainbody.
"Notice!" The actualdevelopingwork is performed ina
darkroom.Thissectiondescribes a test runin ordinary
room light forthe purpose of checking machine
operation.

Drainwater. After checking the above,turnpower
switchOFF,remove thecap from the drainhose and
drain waterfromeach bath. The number onthe drain
hose shows the number of eachbath. "Caution!"
Alwaysturnpowerswitch OFF when draining water.
Drainingwaterwith the powerswitch ON will not only
overheat the heater, butcan causeseizure ofthe
agitationpumpbearings.
