When connecting e ectrica app iances in the proxi-
mity of the app iance, make sure that connecting
eads do not come into contact with hot cooking
surfaces!
As the user, you yourse f are responsib e for
maintenance and proper use in the househo d.
On y ever operate the app iance under supervision.
Do not operate the app iance without pots and pans
p aced on it. Make sure that a the burner parts are
correct y fitted.
Important: The app iance heats up during opera-
tion. Keep chi dren away.
Note:
If you have fitted the app iance cover VD 201-010
(specia accessory) on the app iance, it must not be
c osed unti the app iance has coo ed down
comp ete y. Do not operate the app iance with the
cover c osed! Heat deve opment may damage the
app iance and the cover. Do not use the app iance
cover as a surface for p acing objects or for
keeping things warm.
Do not c ean the app iance with a steam c eaning
apparatus or with water pressure - risk of s ort-
circuits!
Iso ate the app iance from the mains during every
maintenance operation. To do this, remove the
mains p ug or actuate the corresponding fuse.
C ose the gas supp y.
Repairs must be carried out by authorised specia-
ists, thus ensuring e ectrica safety.

1. Important notes
1.3 About use
The app iance is intended so e y for use in the
househo d and must not be put to any other uses.
Use the app iance to prepare mea s on y. It must not
be used to heat up the room in which it is insta ed.
Use of a gas cooker generates eat and umidity
in the room where it is insta ed. This is why atten-
tion must be paid to good kitchen venti ation.
The natural ventilation openings must be kept
unobstructed. Pro onged use of the app iance
with severa or a rings may ca for additiona
venti ation such as opening a window or a door,
or stronger air extraction by an extractor hood.
To guarantee good combustion, t e room in
w ic t e appliance is installed must ave
a minimum volume of 20 m3and must possess
a door t at opens outdoors or a window t at
can be opened.
Only ever use the burners after placing pots and
pans on t em. Do not eat up any empty pots
or pans; this may resu t in a bui d-up of heat. Use
pots and pans with thicker bottoms because heat
distribution is particu ar y improved in the ow
setting. The better the size of pots and pans is
adapted to the burner size, the better the heat of
the gas f ame wi be exp oited and the more costs
wi be saved.
Cooking vesse s with curved bottoms, e.g. woks,
must not be used.
It is not permitted to use roasting pans, frying pans
or gri stones heated simu taneous y by severa
burners because the resu ting heat bui d-up may
damage the app iance.
Switch the burners to the ow setting whenever you
remove pots or pans brief y. In this way, you reduce
the risk of burns when working next to naked
f ames; you a so save gas and reduce po ution.
Whenever the gas hob is fitted under a vapour
extractor hood, a ways cover the rings with pots
or pans. Otherwise, parts of the vapour extractor
hood may become damaged by the extreme heat
deve opment or grease residues in the fi ter may
ignite. Ensure an adequate supply of air w en
using a vapour extractor operating in t e
ex aust air mode.
After igniting, keep the contro knob pressed for
around 5-8 seconds more because the heat sensor
that opens the gas channe has to warm up first.
In the event of a power failure, you can a so ignite
the unit with matches or any other ignition aid. The
therma protection faci ity that prevent gas from
f owing out in the open position functions without
restriction.
Pots with a diameter of ess than 90 mm or more
than 220 mm shou d not be used. When using
arger pots, pay attention to keeping to a minimum
distance of 50 mm between the cooking vesse and
combustib e surroundings. A minimum distance of
15 mm must be observed between the contro knob
and the pot or pan.
In the event of malfunctions, contact your
specia ist dea er or your responsib e Gaggenau
after-sa es service.
Tip: When buying pots, pay attention to the fact
that the manufacturer frequent y specifies the top
pot diameter, which is genera y arger than the
diameter of the base.
Observe the manufacturer's specification! Use
cooking utensi s that the manufacturer states as
being “suitab e for gas".
Preferab y use the arger cooking zone for brief
cooking, deep fat frying and brief frying of arge
quantities. Preferab y use the sma er ring for
soaking, warming up and keeping warm, even
when arge quantities are invo ved.

2.3 Operating principle
The app iance features one-hand operation. That
is to say, the ignition is activated when the contro
knob is pressed brief y.
After igniting, keep the contro knob pressed for
around 5-8 seconds more because the heat sensor
that opens the gas channe has to warm up first.
The gas hob has 2 normal burners and 2 ig -
intensity burners.
A burners have a t ermal protection device that
prevents unburned gas from escaping in the open
position.
The total rated t ermal load amounts to:
9.4 kW referred to Hs* (gross ca orific va ue)
8.4 kW referred to Hi(ca orific va ue)
The specified rated oad is defined by insta ation
of the fixed nozz es.
The gas hob is converted to a different gas
type by nozz e rep acement (fu and ow-burning
nozz es) (see nozz e tab e on pp. 10-11).
The symbols on t e control panel mean:
0Off
High setting
Low setting
The f ame is infinite y variab e between high and
ow-setting.
6
7
T e cooking positions must only be ignited
w en all burner parts are fitted. Ot erwise,
malfunctions may occur on t e ignition unit.
Switc ing on:
– P ace a pot or a pan on the corresponding
cooking position.
– Fu y press in the contro knob for the
corresponding cooking position. This activates
the ignition. Keep the contro knob pressed!
– Turn the contro knob to the eft to the “high"
position.
If the f ame shou d not ignite within 2 to 4 seconds,
turn the contro knob further to the eft to the “ ow"
position and then back to the “high" position after
ignition. It is often faster to ignite in the ow position
because the various gases have a differing ignition
response.
After igniting, keep the contro knob pressed
for around 5 - 8 seconds more because the heat
sensor that opens the gas channe has to warm
up first.
Repeat the operation if the f ame shou d go out
again.
The f ame size can be set continuous y between fu
and ow by s owing turning the contro knob.
Switc ing off:
Fu y turn the contro knob to the eft to the 0
position on the eft.

Wipe off spilt food immediate y, thus ensuring that
it cannot burn in on the hob.
Caution! The burner gets very hot during
operation!
Never use abrasive or caustic c eaning agents.
You shou d on y c ean the control panel and the
control knobs with detergent and a a soft c oth.
To ensure perfect functioning, keep the therma
sensor and the spark p ug c ean.
Keep the incoming air openings on the rear of
the pane unobstructed and c ean.
P ease thorough y c ean the app iance before
operating it for t e first time and after every
use.
– Wait until t e appliance as cooled down.
– Remove the pot grid.
– Remove the burner cover.
– C ean t e ob, t e burner covers and t e
pot grid with commercia y avai ab e c eaning
agents (not in a dishwasher!), e.g. with warm
soap so ution and a dishwashing brush.
– Whenever required, c ean the burner ead with
a moist c oth.
– Soak burnt-in remainders in a itt e water and
detergent. This oosens even the most stubborn
of soi ing. Do not use any abrasive agents and
abrasive sponges.
– As the resu t of heat deve opment, s ight dis-
co oration can appear on the stain ess stee
surface. Do not attempt to scrape away suc
discoloration. This damages the surface.
Distribute stain ess stee care agents uniform y
and thin y on the hob (not on the contro pane !).
This wi ensure an even surface and wi keep
your hob in a good condition for a ong period of
time.
Important: A ow the burner covers to coo down
before c eaning them!
When assemb ing, p ace the burner cover (1) on
the burner ead (2) so that the four tabs on the
bottom edge of the burner cover engage in the
corresponding tabs on the burner head (see Fig. 6).
P ace the pot grids back in position.
4. C eaning and care
Caution:
Never use high-pressure or steam jet units to
c ean your app iance because otherwise the
