Welcome
Introducing Your GarageSmart™ Device
Welcome to the exciting world of monitoring, opening and closing your garage doors.
With the use of a GarageSmart™ device, you can reliably monitor, open or close your
garage doors anywhere in the world from any flip-phone, smartphone, tablet, PC
(basically any device that has internet or text message capabilities) anytime while
receiving email and text alerts.
The GarageSmart™ device even allows you to grant remote access with use of a shared
key or to as many users as you want by providing unique remote keys that expire when
you want them to. Provide one key to each member of your family to prevent fighting over
who gets the garage door opener or to a neighbor to allow them access to your home in
the event of an emergency or delivery. The GarageSmart™ keeps an accurate log so that
you'll always know exactly when and who is opening and closing your garage doors.
The GarageSmart™ device also contains built in Auto Shut features, such as “Weather
Guard” that will close all garage doors depending on the outside weather conditions
(coming soon). Garage doors can also close at specific times that you set, as this feature
is highly used at night for security that prevents garage doors from being mistakenly left
open all night long or for long period of times.
The GarageSmart™ device was designed for both, basic and advanced users in mind as
Free Accounts never require any fees or subscriptions to operate or control the
GarageSmart™ device. Premium Accounts are for users that are looking for more

Setup
Setup and Verification
Prior to mounting and installing the GarageSmart™ device, it is important to fully read and
understand all steps and notes in each section for proper setup of the GarageSmart™ device.
Activating and Registering the GarageSmart™ Device
1. Looking at the back of the GarageSmart™ device, write down the Mac Address
and Device ID and keep in a safe place as this will be needed later (1).
2. Visit http://www.garagesmart.net/account_setup.html
3. Enter in all required information on the Account Setup page using the Mac
Address and Device ID from the back of the GarageSmart™ device (2).
4. Once the GarageSmart™ device has been registered, you will then be able to log
into the Online Control Panel at http://www.garagesmart.net/login.html to update
information and settings pertaining to your GarageSmart™ device (3).
1. The Mac Address and Device ID can also be found anytime within the users online control panel by
logging into “My Account”.
2. Activating and Registration needs to be performed once on each GarageSmart™ device as each
requires its own Activation, Registration and Online Control Panel (Username) login.
3. Some settings require the GarageSmart™ device to be connected to a secured Wi-Fi network before
making changes, otherwise changes may not update properly.
Configure the GarageSmart™ Device to a secure Wi-Fi network
To successfully configure the GarageSmart™ device to an existing or new secured Wi-Fi
network, you MUST:
1) Have access and be able to temporally change your routers Wi-Fi Network name
(SSID) and Password settings (1) (2).
2) Know what the present Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID) and Password of the
GarageSmart™ device is configured to (3).
3) The router must be 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11n - (2.4 GHz) compatible.

14 GarageSmartTM User’s Manual
All new factory GarageSmart™ devices are shipped from the factory and configured to
the following default Wi-Fi settings:
Network Name (SSID): GarageSmart
Password: WiFiSetup
Examples of the configuration flow process
In both examples above, the RED circles indicate changes that occur to the Wi-Fi
settings of either the router or the GarageSmart™ device throughout the configuration
process of each step. The end result is for the GarageSmart™ device to match your
routers secured Wi-Fi Network settings. This process will also work if you are using the
same existing Wi-Fi configuration of your router or setting up completely new Wi-Fi
configuration for both devices.
The overall process of properly configuring the GarageSmart™ device to your secured
Wi-Fi network is to determine if the two devices (the router and the GarageSmart device)
presently contain the same or different Wi-Fi settings. Keep in mind, a new factory
GarageSmart™ device is shipped with its default Wi-Fi settings as per above,
therefore the Wi-Fi settings would be different.

GarageSmartTM User’s Manual 15
If the Wi-Fi settings are different, then the “Different Wi-Fi Settings” example shown
above on the left (for illustration purposes) along with Steps 1 thru 16 below shall be
performed to properly configure the GarageSmart™ device to your secured router.
If the Wi-Fi settings are the same, then the “Same Wi-Fi Settings” example shown
above on the right (for illustration purposes) along with Steps 1, and 8 thru 16 below shall
be performed to properly configure the GarageSmart™ device to your secured router.
IMPORTANT - Once the GarageSmart™ device is configured to your existing or to
another secured Network Name (SSID) or Password, the factory default Wi-Fi settings
will be overwritten and will no longer be valid. Therefore it is important to always
remember what the GarageSmart™ device is configured to as these settings will then
become the new Wi-Fi settings of the GarageSmart™ device (in place of the factory
default settings) (3).
1. Login into your routers Wi-Fi settings and write down the existing Network Name
(SSID) and Password.
2. Perform this step if the GarageSmart™ device and your router are currently
configured to different Wi-Fi network settings(3); otherwise skip this step and
proceed directly to step 8.
Temporally change the Network Name (SSID) and Password of your router to the
same Network (SSID) and Password of the GarageSmart™ device (for new
GarageSmart™ devices this will be the default Wi-Fi settings as per above) (2) (3).
3. Wait for the router to update to the new settings before proceeding with the next
steps.
4. Plug the “AC Power Supply” into any 120V outlet.
5. Plug one end of the “USB Power Cable” into the “AC Power Supply” and the
other end into the GarageSmart™ device.
6. The Status LED on the left will start to blink a pattern of color(s) while the
GarageSmart™ device tries to connect to your router.
7. If the LED eventually changes to a blinking GREEN (4), then proceed with the
following steps below. Otherwise, verify that your routers Wi-Fi settings are
correct and that the router is fully working (5).
8. From any cell phone, laptop, tablet or PC visit
http://www.garagesmart.net/tools/wificonfig.html and enter in the Mac Address
and Device ID of the GarageSmart device (6).
9. Enter the Network Name (SSID) and Password for your router (from Step 1
above).
10. Click “Submit”.

16 GarageSmartTM User’s Manual
11. Login back into your routers Wi-Fi settings and change the Network Name
(SSID) and Password to match the Network Name (SSID) and Password that
was entered in Step 9 above.
12. Wait for the router to fully update to the new settings before proceeding with the
next steps.
13. Remove power from the GarageSmart™ device, wait 5 seconds, then reapply
power to the GarageSmart™ device.
14. The Status LED on the left will start to blink a pattern of color(s) while it tries to
connect to your routers new Wi-Fi network settings.
15. If the LED eventually changes to only a blinking GREEN(4) after a few seconds,
then the GarageSmart™ device has been successfully updated with your routers
existing or new Wi-Fi settings.
At any time now or in the future, you may proceed to the section, “Verify the
GarageSmart™ Device is connected to your Wi-Fi network” of this manual to
visual test if the GarageSmart™ device is actually connected to your router and
the GarageSmart™ network.
16. If the LED does NOT eventually change to blinking GREEN(4), then the
GarageSmart™ device Wi-Fi settings did NOT update correctly to your routers
new Wi-Fi settings(5). Perform this section again or contact GarageSmart™ for
assistance on configuring the device properly.
A RULE OF THUMB – To skip steps 2 thru 7 above during future Wi-Fi configurations,
always update the Wi-Fi settings of the GarageSmart™ device first, before modifying the
Wi-Fi settings of the router since the two devices would already be on the same Wi-Fi
network.
Visit www.garagesmart.net/videos/to view a video on how to Configure the
GarageSmart™ Device to a secure Wi-Fi network.
1. If you do NOT have access to your routers Wi-Fi settings or if your router doesn’t allow the changing
of the Network Name (SSID) or Password, then contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) on how
to change these Wi-Fi settings or contact GarageSmart™ for assistance on configuring the device
properly.
2. Changing the Network Name (SSID) and Password of your router is only temporally, as your router
needs to initially establish communications with the GarageSmart™ device by being on the same
Wi-Fi network. Once, initial communication has been established, the GarageSmart™ device can
then be updated to your routers existing secured Network Name (SSID) and Password.
3. The last known Network Name (SSID) and Password of the GarageSmart™ device may either be its
factory default setting (for new factory devices that have never been configured yet) or the current
Wi-Fi Network (SSID) and Password that your router is set to (assuming that your routers Wi-Fi
settings haven’t changed). However if the Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID) or Password of the
GarageSmart™ device is unknown, then contact GarageSmart™ for assistance on configuring the
device properly.

GarageSmartTM User’s Manual 17
4. The Status LED will blink GREEN for a maximum of 60 seconds or less, and then the Status LED will be
off as this is normal.
5. Verify that the Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID) and Password of the router is correct and that the router
supports 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11n protocols with 2.4GHz. Also verify that your router isn’t blocking the
Mac Address of the GarageSmart™ device or has run out of IP Addresses. For more information, consult
with your routers manual.
6. The Mac Address and Device ID can be found by looking at the back of the GarageSmart™ device or
within the users online control panel by logging into “My Account”.

18 GarageSmartTM User’s Manual
