SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE
The Cali ornia Sa e Drinking Water and Toxic En orcement Act requires the Governor o Cali ornia to
publish a list o substances known to the state to cause birth de ects or other reproductive harm, and
requires businesses to warn customers o potential exposure to such substances.
Gas appliances can cause minor exposure to our o these substances, namely benzene, carbon
monoxide, ormaldehyde and soot, caused primarily by the incomplete combustion o natural gas or
LP uels. Properly adjusted burners, indicated by a bluish rather than a yellow lame, will minimize
incomplete combustion. Exposure to these substances can be minimized by venting with an open
window or using a ventilation an or hood.

■Locate the ran e out of kitchen traffic path
and out of drafty locations to prevent poor air
circulation.
■Be sure all packa in materials are removed
from the ran e before operatin it to prevent
fire or smoke dama e should the packa in
material i nite.
■Be sure your ran e is correctly adjusted by
a qualified service technician or installer for
the type of as (natural or LP) that is to be
used. Your ran e can be converted for use
with either type of as. See the Installation
o the range section.
■WARNING: These adjustments must
be made by a qualified service technician
in accordance with the manufacturer’s
instructions and all codes and requirements of
the authority havin jurisdiction. Failure
to follow these instructions could result in
serious injury or property dama e. The
qualified a ency performin this work
assumes responsibility for the conversion.
■After prolon ed use of a ran e, hi h floor
temperatures may result and many floor
coverin s will not withstand this kind of use.
Never install the ran e over vinyl tile or
linoleum that cannot withstand such type
of use. Never install it directly over interior
kitchen carpetin .
■Do not leave children alone or unattended
where a ran e is hot or in operation. They
could be seriously burned.
■Do not allow anyone to climb, stand or han
on the oven door, broiler compartment or
cooktop. They could dama e the ran e and
even tip it over, causin severe personal injury.
■ CAUTION: Items of interest to children
should not be stored in cabinets above a

up a flamin pan. Turn the controls off.
Smother a flamin pan on a surface burner
by coverin the pan completely with a well-
fittin lid, cookie sheet or flat tray. Use a
multi-purpose dry chemical or foam-type
fire extin uisher.
■Flamin rease outside a pan can be put
out by coverin it with bakin soda or,
if available, by usin a multi-purpose dry
chemical or foam-type fire extin uisher.
■Flame in the oven can be smothered
completely by closin the oven door and
turnin the control to off or by usin a multi-
purpose dry chemical or foam-type
fire extin uisher.
■Let the burner rates and other surfaces cool
before touchin them or leavin them where
children can reach them.
■Never block the vents (air openin s) of the
ran e. They provide the air inlet and outlet
that are necessary for the ran e to operate
properly with correct combustion. Air openin s
are located at the rear of the cooktop, at the
top and bottom of the oven door, and at the
bottom of the ran e under the broiler

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING.
SURFACE BURNERS
Use proper pan size—avoid pans that are unstable or easily tipped. Select cookware having lat
bottoms large enough to cover burner grates. To avoid spillovers, make sure cookware is large enough
to contain the ood properly. This will both save cleaning time and prevent hazardous accumulations o
ood, since heavy spattering or spillovers le t on range can ignite. Use pans with handles that can be
easily grasped and remain cool.
■Always use the Lite position when i nitin the
top burners and make sure the burners have
i nited.
■Never leave the surface burners unattended at
hi h flame settin s. Boilovers cause smokin
and reasy spillovers that may catch on fire.
■Adjust the top burner flame size so it
does not extend beyond the ed e of the
cookware. Excessive flame is hazardous.
■Use only dry pot holders—moist or damp pot
holders on hot surfaces may result in burns
from steam. Do not let pot holders come near
open flames when liftin cookware. Do not
use a towel or other bulky cloth in place of
a pot holder.
■When usin lass cookware, make sure it
is desi ned for top-of-ran e cookin .
■To minimize the possibility of burns, i nition
of flammable materials and spilla e, turn
cookware handles toward the side or back of
the ran e without extendin over adjacent
burners.
■Carefully watch foods bein fried at a hi h
flame settin .
■Always heat fat slowly, and watch as it heats.
■Do not leave any items on the cooktop. The
hot air from the vent may i nite flammable
items and will increase pressure in closed
containers, which may cause them to burst.
■If a combination of oils or fats will be used in
fryin , stir to ether before heatin or as fats
melt slowly.
■Use a deep fat thermometer whenever
possible to prevent overheatin fat beyond the
smokin point.
■Use the least possible amount of fat for
effective shallow or deep-fat fryin . Fillin the
pan too full of fat can cause spillovers when
food is added.
■Do not flame foods on the cooktop. If you do
flame foods under the hood, turn the fan on.
■Do not use a wok on the cookin surface
if the wok has a round metal rin that is
placed over the burner rate to support
the wok. This rin acts as a heat trap, which
may dama e the burner rate and burner
head. Also, it may cause the burner to work
improperly. This may cause a carbon
monoxide level above that allowed by current
standards, resultin in a health hazard.

■Do not use aluminum foil to line the riddle.
Misuse could result in a fire hazard.
■Never leave the kitchen while usin the riddle.
■Foods for fryin should be as dry as possible.
Frost on frozen foods or moisture on fresh
foods can cause hot fat to bubble up and over
the sides of the pan.
■Never try to move a pan of hot fat, especially
a deep fat fryer. Wait until the fat is cool.
■Do not leave plastic items on the cooktop—
they may melt if left too close to the vent.
■Keep all plastics away from the surface
burners.
■To avoid the possibility of a burn, always be
certain that the controls for all burners are at
the Off position and all rates and the riddle
are cool before attemptin to remove them.
■ If ran e is located near a window, do not han
lon curtains that could blow over the surface
burners and create a fire hazard.

How to Light a Gas Surface Burner
Make sure all the surface burners are placed
in their respective positions.
Push the control knob in and turn it to the
Lite position.
You will hear a little clicking noise—the sound
of the electric spark i nitin the burner.
Turn the knob to adjust the flame size. If the
knob stays at Lite, it will continue to click.
When one burner is turned to Lite, all the
burners spark. Do not attempt to disassemble
or clean around any burner while another
burner is on. An electric shock may result,
which could cause you to knock over hot
cookware.
Push the control knob in and turn it
to the LITE position.
Using the gas surface burners.
Before Lighting a Gas Burner After Lighting a Gas Burner
■Make sure all burners are in place.
■Make sure all rates (and the center
riddle, if it is oin to be used) on the
ran e are properly placed before usin any
burner.
■Do not operate the burner for an extended
period of time without cookware on the
rate. The finish on the rate may chip
without cookware to absorb the heat.
■Be sure the burners, riddle and rates are
cool before you place your hand, a pot
holder, cleanin cloths or other materials
on them.
Surface Burner Controls
Knobs that turn the surface burners on and
off are marked as to which burners they
control. The two knobs on the left control the
left front and left rear burners. The two knobs
on the ri ht control the ri ht front and ri ht
rear burners. The center left knob controls the
center oval burner.

Sealed Gas Burners
Your as ran e cooktop has five sealed
as burners. They offer convenience,
cleanability and flexibility to be used
in a wide ran e of cookin applications.
The smallest burner in the ri ht rear position
is the simmer burner. This burner can be
turned down to a very low simmer settin . It
provides precise cookin performance for
delicate foods such as sauces or foods that
require low heat for a lon cookin time.
The medium (left rear) and lar e (left front)
burners are the primary burners
for most cookin . These eneral-purpose
burners can be turned down from Hi to Lo to
suit a wide ran e of cookin needs.
The extra lar e burner (ri ht front) is the
maximum output burner. Like the other four
burners, it can be turned down from Hi to Lo
for a wide ran e of cookin applications;
however, this burner is desi ned to quickly
brin lar e amounts of liquid to a boil. It has
a special Power Boil™settin desi ned to be
used with cookware 10 inches or lar er in
diameter.
The center oval burner (on some models) is
for lar e pots/pans or for use with the riddle.

Use a lat-bottomed wok.
Top-of-Range Cookware
Aluminum: Medium-wei ht cookware is
recommended because it heats quickly
and evenly. Most foods brown evenly in an
aluminum skillet. Use saucepans with ti ht-
fittin lids when cookin with minimum
amounts of water.
Cast-Iron: If heated slowly, most skillets will
ive satisfactory results.
Enamelware: Under some conditions, the
enamel of some cookware may melt. Follow
cookware manufacturer’s recommendations
for cookin methods.
Glass: There are two types of lass
cookware—those for oven use only and those
for top-of-ran e cookin (saucepans, coffee
and teapots). Glass conducts heat very
slowly.
Heatproof Glass Ceramic: Can be used for
either surface or oven cookin . It conducts
heat very slowly and cools very slowly. Check
cookware manufacturer’s directions to be
sure it can be used on as ran es.
Stainless Steel: This metal alone has poor
heatin properties and is usually combined
with copper, aluminum or other metals for
improved heat distribution. Combination
metal skillets usually work satisfactorily if
they are used with medium heat as the
manufacturer recommends.
Stove Top Grills
Do not use stove top rills on your sealed as
burners. If you use the stove top rill on the
sealed as burner, it will cause incomplete
combustion and can result in exposure to
carbon monoxide levels above allowable
standards.
This can be hazardous to your health.
Wok This Way
We recommend that you use a 14 ″or smaller
lat-bottomed wok. Make sure the wok bottom
sits lat on the grate. They are available at
your local retail store.
Only a flat-bottomed wok should be used.
Do not use a flat-bottomed wok on a support
rin . Placin the rin over the burner or rate
may cause the burner to work improperly,
resultin in carbon monoxide levels above
allowable standards. This could be dan erous
to your health.
In Case of Power Failure
How to Select Flame Size
For sa e handling o cookware, never let the
lames extend up the sides o the cookware.
Watch the flame, not the knob, as you reduce
heat. When fast heatin is desired, the flame
size on a as burner should match the
cookware you are usin .
Flames lar er than the bottom of the
cookware will not result in faster heatin
of the cookware and could be hazardous.
Use only lar e oval pots/pans, round
pots/pans 12″or reater in diameter or
the riddle on the center burner.

Preheating and Pan Placement
Preheat the oven if the recipe calls for it.
To preheat, set the oven at the correct
temperature. Preheatin is necessary for
ood results when bakin cakes, cookies,
pastry and breads.
For ovens without a preheat indicator light or
tone, preheat 10 minutes.
Bakin results will be better if bakin pans are
centered in the oven as much as possible.
Pans should not touch each other or the walls
of the oven. If you need to use two shelves,
sta er the pans so one is not directly above
the other, and leave approximately 11⁄2″
between pans, from the front, back and sides
of the wall.

Oven Moisture
As your oven heats up, the temperature
chan e of the air in the oven may cause
water droplets to form on the door lass.
These droplets are harmless and will
evaporate as the oven continues to heat up.
The oven has a special low shel (R)
position just above the oven
bottom. Use it when extra cooking
space is needed, or example, when
cooking a large turkey. The shel is
not designed to slide out at this
position.
Aluminum Foil
Do not use aluminum oil on the bottom o
the oven.
Never entirely cover a shelf with aluminum
foil. This will disturb the heat circulation and
result in poor bakin .
A smaller sheet of foil may be used to catch a
spillover by placin it on a lower shelf several
inches below the food.

Using the oven.
Broiling
Broilin is cookin food by direct heat from
above the food. Most fish and tender cuts of
meat can be broiled. Follow these directions
to keep spatterin and smokin to a
minimum.
Your ran e has a compartment below the
oven for broilin .
Both the oven and broiler compartment
doors must be CLOSED during broiling.
Turn most foods once durin cookin (the
exception is thin fillets of fish; oil one side,
place that side down on broiler rid and cook
without turnin until done). Time foods for
about one-half the total cookin time, turn
food, then continue to cook to preferred
doneness.
You can chan e the distance of the food
from the heat source by positionin a
broiler pan and rid on one of three shelf
positions in the broiler compartment—A
(bottom of broiler compartment), B
(middle) and C (top).
Preheatin the broiler or oven is not
necessary and can produce poor results.
If meat has fat or ristle around the ed e,
cut vertical slashes throu h both about
2″apart. If desired, the fat may be
trimmed, leavin a layer about 1/8″thick.
Arran e the food on the rid and position
the broiler pan on the appropriate shelf in
the oven or broilin compartment.
Placin food closer to the flame
increases exterior brownin of the food,
but also increases spatterin and the
possibility of fats and meat juices
i nitin .
Close the oven and broiler compartment
door.
Touch the Broil Hi/Lo pad once for
Hi Broil.
To chan e to Lo Broil, touch the
Broil Hi/Lo pad a ain.
Use Lo Broil to cook foods such as
poultry or thick cuts of meat thorou hly
without over-brownin them.
Touch the Start/On pad.
When broilin is finished, touch the
Clear/Off pad.
Remove the broiler pan from the broiler
compartment and serve the food
immediately. Leave the pan outside the
ran e to cool.

Broiling Guide
The oven and broiler compartment doors
must be closed during broiling.
■Always use a broiler pan and rid. It is
desi ned to minimize smokin and
spatterin by trappin juices in the
shielded lower part of the pan.
■For steaks and chops, slash fat evenly
around the outside ed es of the meat. To
slash, cut crosswise throu h the outer fat
surface just to the ed e of the meat. Use
ton s to turn the meat over to prevent
piercin the meat and losin juices.
■If desired, marinate meats or chicken
before broilin . Or brush with barbecue
sauce last 5 to 10 minutes only.
■When arran in the food on the pan, do
not let fatty ed es han over the sides
because drippin fat could soil the oven.
■The broiler compartment does not need to
be preheated. However, for very thin foods,
or to increase brownin , preheat if desired.
■Frozen steaks can be broiled by positionin
the shelf at the next lowest shelf position
and increasin the cookin time iven in
this uide 11⁄2times per side.
The oven has 5 shel positions.
