cifically recommend, verify that it is safe for others and
does not render the equipment unsafe.
Throughout this publication, and on tags and decals
affixed to the unit, DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and
NOTE blocks are used to alert operators to special
instructions about a particular operation that may be
hazardous if performed incorrectly or carelessly. Observe
them carefully. Alert definitions are as follows:
(000001)
DANGER
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
will result in death or serious injury.
(000002)
WARNING
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
could result in death or serious injury.

Handling Wood
(000439)
WARNING
Equipment damage. Do not overload the log splitter.
Do not attempt to split logs beyond the units
capability. Doing so could result in serious injury or
equipment damage.
(000442)
WARNING
Personal injury. Do not reach or step across the
beam while the log splitter is running. Doing so
could result in death or serious injury.

(000440)
WARNING
Personal injury. Do not operate unit from outside the
operator zone. Doing so could result in death, serious
injury, or equipment damage.
(000441)
WARNING
Personal injury. Load logs by holding them in the
middle, not the ends. Loading logs by holding the
ends could result in serious injury.
(000443)
WARNING
Personal injury. Do not attempt to split logs across
the grain. Doing so could cause serious injury or
equipment damage.
(000444)
WARNING
Personal injury. Keep hands away from cracks in
partially split or stuck logs. These cracks can quickly
collapse, which could result in serious injury.
(000445)
WARNING
Personal injury. Do not attempt to remove partially
split wood by hand. Always fully retract the wedge to
dislodge logs. Failure to do so could result in serious
injury or equipment damage.
(000446)
WARNING
Personal injury. Do not attempt to catch logs after
splitting. Only pick up the logs from the ground.
Attempting to catch logs could result in serious injury.
10 Owner’s Manual for 10 Ton Kinetic Spliter
Operation
NOTE: Logs must be shorter than 16 in (41 cm). Never
split logs using an incorrect or unsafe method. Use the
photos included as a guide.
•See Figure 3-3. Do not hold log by ends. Never
use your foot to stabilize a log. Do not reach or
step across the beam while unit is running.
Figure 3-3. Do Not Hold at Ends
•See Figure 3-4. Do not split log against the grain.
Figure 3-4. Do Not Split Against the Grain
•See Figure 3-5. Do not cut angled wood. Verify
both ends are cut as square as possible. This pre-
vents logs from sliding out of position while under
pressure.
Figure 3-5. Do Not Cut Angled Wood

Owner’s Manual for 10 Ton Kinetic Spliter 11
Operation
•See Figure 3-6. Place hands on long sides of log.
Verify both ends of log are flat. If stabilizing log with
left hand, remove hand when splitting wedge
makes contact with the log.
Figure 3-6. Correct Log Loading Technique
Splitting Logs
This unit operates differently than a hydraulic splitter. Not
operating the machine properly will damage the machine.
When operating the unit consider the following:
•A rapid movement of the engagement handle is
necessary for the rack and pinion to engage and
disengage fully without damage.
•The engagement handle should never be stopped
in any location between the fully forward or fully
backward positions.
•Do not hold the handle in the forward position
when the ram stops moving forward. Always pull
the engagement handle rapidly to the back, auto-
retract position as soon as the log is split or when
the ram is at the end of the stroke or when the ram
stops moving forward due to a tough log
1. See Figure 3-7. Place the log on the log splitter.
Grasp the log on the sides near the middle of the
block. Center the log, side-to-side, on rail (A), veri-
fying one end is against splitting wedge (B).
B
A
Figure 3-7. Splitting Logs (1 of 2)
2. See Figure 3-8. With one hand, actuate and hold
two hand operation handle (C) in the direction
shown, then rapidly actuate engagement handle
(D) fully forward until it contacts the hard stop and
hold firmly until the ram reaches the end of its
travel.

A
C
D

3. Immediately after the log is split, quickly actuate
the engagement handle back to the auto-retract
position to all the ram to return.
Splitting Tough Logs
If the ram stops before the end of the stroke while split-
ting a tough log, quickly actuate the engagement handle
back to the auto-retract position. Let the ram return and
allow the flywheels to gain momentum for another full
power split.

Lubrication
All bearings are sealed units and should have sufficient
lubricant to last the life of your machine with normal use.
Perform machine lubrication per the following instruc-
tions.
Rail Maintenance
See Figure 4-1. Between each use, remove any debris
caught on the rail (A) or ram (B) and applying a rust pre-
ventative to any bare metal areas on the top of the rail.
This will assure the smoothest return action of the ram.

Adjusting Steel Bushing Over Center
Only perform this adjustment if the engagement handle is
kicking back excessively when splitting a log. If you have
any questions, contact Generac Customer Service at 1-
888-GENERAC (1-888-436-3722) or visit www.gen-
erac.com for assistance.

3. See Figure 4-12. Push two hand operation lever
(C) to the side and move the engagement handle
(D) forward until it contacts the vertical adjustment
bolt (E).
NOTE: The ram may need to be pulled out so the teeth
on the rack and pinion line up.
4. Use a 17 mm wrench to loosen nut (F) and handle
retention nut (G).
NOTE: Do not adjust more than 1-1/4 revolutions when
adjusting off center. Adjustments too far off center will not
allow the rack teeth to engage fully and will cause dam-
age to the splitter

5. Use a 14mm wrench to adjust the vertical adjust-
ment bolt so the engagement handle is approxi-
mately 1-3° off center towards the vertical
adjustment bolt.
NOTE: The engagement handle must move just past
center as it contacts the vertical adjustment bolt. If it is at
the center position, or off center in the wrong direction,
the force of splitting a log will be transferred through the
engagement handle and could cause injury.
6. Use a 17 mm wrench to tighten the locking nut and
handle retention nut. Verify the two hand operation
handle is able to move freely and return to the
locked position. If the handle cannot move freely,
loosen the handle retention nut 1/4 rotation at a
time until it can move freely.
7. Push the engagement handle all the way to the
return position then back into the split position to
confirm the steel bushing is moving just past cen-
ter.
8. See Figure 4-13. Check the gap at the end of
stopping bolt (H) and engagement handle (I) The
gap should be approximately 2 mm. If the gap
needs adjustment, hold the head of the bolt using a
17 mm wrench and loosen nut (J) using another
17mm wrench. Adjust the bolt as needed to correct
the gap and retighten the nut against the two hand
operation handle (K).
