IMPORTANT PRODUCT SAFETY
Please review these important safety warnings, cautions and notes in order to assure safe and
effective use of your generator in wet weather.
WARNING
Always shut generator off before any fueling or maintenance procedures.
WARNING
Never position the refueling door on the same side of the generator as the exhaust muffler.
Spilled gasoline can result in fire.
WARNING
Never block or cover the generator exhaust muffler in any way. GenTent canopy must be
installed above generator exhaust muffler. Install GenTent electrical skirts such that they cannot
block exhaust in any way. Keep the GenTent canopy at least 6 inches away from direct contact
with the exhaust.
WARNING
Always install included washer between the knob and the clamp base. Tightening the
knob without using the washer VOIDS the WARRANTY as it risks breakage.
CAUTION
Over tightening clamps should be avoided. If you notice the mouth of the clamp pulling aware
from the frame, the clamping strength has been reduced and the knob should be loosened.
CAUTION
Always grasp fiberglass rods firmly during installation to avoid the whipping motion that can
occur when a bent fiberglass rod is mistakenly released.
CAUTION
Avoid using your portable generator in hurricane force winds above 70mph.
NOTE
Should generator handles cause significant stretching of the elastic straps when extended, it is advisable
to release the elastics straps on the handle side of the generator before extending generator handles.
NOTE
Should GenTent cover block pull starter, it is advisable to release the elastic straps on the pull starter side
and temporarily move GenTent canopy out of the way.
NOTE
When using GenTent during snow storms, it is recommended to periodically brush away any accumulation
that blocks the top vent.

Installation Overview
The GenTent installs in three easy steps***:
Clamp it: Install 4 clamps and set the telescoping rod length.
Frame it: Install frame rod to the center connector, then into the correct
hole in the telescoping rod and repeat.
Cover it: Slide the GenTent canopy over the frame and secure by sliding the
elastic straps over and behind the clamp telescoping rod.
Once the GenTent is installed, it can be left in place during generator
storage or easily removed and stored separately. Should you wish to store
the generator with the GenTent attached, we recommend releasing the
elastic straps in order to keep them fresh and ready.
***Note: In some cases adaptation of the portable generator frame is required to
create a proper mounting point for the GenTent clamps. Should your kit include a frame
extender or frame adapter package (GTX, GTU, GTR, GTH), please follow the instructions
for installation of the frame extender(s) or frame adapter(s) prior to installing the
GenTent. Frame adaptation is generally required when:
-A muffler heat shield or other panel is connected to a frame member that
otherwise blocks the GenTent clamp from attaching directly to the proper
location.
-The portable generator uses a square tubular frame that must be adapted to the
round openings of the GenTent clamps.
-The portable generator is a very small frame and requires length and width
extension.
-In special cases where the frame does not provide 4 cornered mounting points
such as:
oRidgid RD series generators (except certain 5700W models) which do not
have vertical frame members at the front of the generator
oHonda EU6500is generator which do not have vertical frame members at
the rear of the generator
oGenerac GP15000/GP17500 where the fixed handles block the canopy

Install GenTent Clamps on Generator Frame
1) Determine whether the Rubber Sleeve and/or Rubber Pads are
required
Your GenTent Clamp kit includes 4 rubber sleeve adapters and 8 sticky backed rubber
pads. Depending on the diameter, you will use one or both of these with your clamps.
Please see the following matrix:
A (1 inch)
B (1.25 inches)
C (1.5 inches)
Rubber Pads

If you do not know the diameter of your frame tubes, simply cut out the Frame
Diameter tool below and wrap it around the frame tube from right to left. As shown
below, the arrow will point to A, B, or C, which correspond with the letters above.
Simply match the letter and follow the recommendations for pads and/or sleeve.

1a) Rubber Pad Installation (if required)
Test fit the pad into the clamp:
- The pad goes on the inside rounded
parts of the clamp opening as shown
- Orient the pad so that the long side
aligns with the height of the clamp
- Test fit the pad inside the clamp
opening as shown.
Peel and Stick the pad into the clamp:
- Peel the backing paper from the pad – Take care when peeling the backing so the glue
does not come up with the paper backing. If this happens, restart the peeling at a
different corner.
- Orient the pad as in the test above and apply to the inside of the clamp.
- Repeat for the other side of the clamp.
- Repeat for each clamp requiring rubber pads

2) Assemble Clamp parts (if required)
If your clamps came unassembled, please follow these simple steps.
It is very important that the washer always be used between the
knob and the clamp body.
- Slide telescoping rods into clamp bodies.
- Install set pins through clamp bodies and telescoping rods
- Install carriage bolt through one end and seat into clamp
- Loosely install washer and self-locking knob onto carriage bolt
3) Install Clamp on Generator Frame (or Frame Adapter)
- Locate the first clamp to be installed just below the electrical panel on your generator
- If required, slide rubber sleeve over frame member (1” and 1 ¼” frames only –
adapter not for use on 1 ½” frames)
- Position rubber adapter opening to face outward toward clamp opening (fig. A).
Alternatively the rubber adapter opening can face away from the clamp opening if it is
not possible to face it toward the opening.
- Push clamp opening straight onto frame opening (fig. A). The clamp will pop over the
frame. Then slide up and over rubber adapter (fig. B) (if used)
- Position clamp diagonally from sides of the generator frame (fig. C);
- Tighten knob, centered on washer until clamp is firmly in place. This usually requires
2-4 full turns once the knob/washer seat to the clamp body. If the clamp is over
tightened, the clamping strength is reduced as you will notice the clamp mouth begin to
pull away from the frame. In this case, slightly release the tension on the knob
- Repeat procedure on remaining three sides; position clamps at generally the same
height.

4) Set Rod Adjustment Pin
- See Easy Adjustment Guide for GenTent 10k or GenTent 20k, depending on your
model, below
- Measure length and width of generator frame to the outside of the frame members
- Find corresponding pin setting number in Easy Adjustment Guide

Fig. 4-A Fig. 4-B
- Following the Pin Setting shown (Fig. 4-A and 4-B), set telescoping rod to proper
location and install setting pin
Note that the rod location for setting 0 and 1 are the same, all the way in (Fig. 4-A).
Use the inside frame rod hole for setting 0 and the outside frame rod hole for settings
1-4.

Install GenTent Frame on the GenTent Clamps
- Position Central Connector with vent rod up (fig. 5-A).
- Position side holes so that the shortest distance between holes matches the short side
of your generator.
Note: Each frame rod goes into the Central Connector hole first and then into the
corresponding clamp hole
- Insert a fiberglass frame rod into Central Connector hole until it stops (fig. 5-A).
- Insert other end of the fiberglass rod fully into the correct clamp hole of the
corresponding clamp (Fig. 5-B).
- Insert second fiberglass rod fully into the opposite hole in the Central Connector (fig. 5-
C).
- Grasp the end of this fiberglass rod, bend toward the opposite side clamp and insert
fully into the correct hole (fig. 5-C).
- Repeat for final two fiberglass rods (fig. 5-C).
- Recheck clamps; they should be firmly in place and may exhibit a slight upward lean.

Secure GenTent Canopy over GenTent Frame
-Position GenTent canopy opening over frame. Be certain that the fueling door is
not on the same side as the generator exhaust (fig. 6-A).
-Slide GenTent canopy over the frame so that all four corners are generally equal
and level (fig. 6-A).
-Center GenTent canopy such that Vent Rod is centered under the top cap (fig. 6-
A).
Fig. 6-A (GenTent 10k and GenTent 20k)
-Slide one corner elastic over the corresponding
clamp telescoping rod and set it to sit under the
clamp body (fig. 6-B).
-Repeat on opposite corner, then on the
remaining two corners. Recheck and adjust
canopy if necessary.
-Adjust clamps left to right as necessary so that
Cover seams generally match the frame rods.
-Recheck clamps; they should be firmly in place
and may exhibit a slight upward lean.

-If your electrical outlets are on the short side of the generator, select the short
electrical skirt; otherwise select the long electrical skirt. Only use one skirt!
-Flip the canopy overflap up from corner to corner on the side that is over the
electrical outlets (fig. 6-C).
-Align the electrical skirt so that it extends equally around each corner and press
in place (fig. 6-C).
-Flip the overflap down and over the electrical skirt (fig. 6-D).

Important GenTent Usage Tips
Electrical Skirt Tips
-The optional clear vinyl skirts for the
GenTent 10k and the GenTent 20k
electrical skirts can be stacked together
for double height (Fig. 6-E) by
connecting the top of one skirt to the
bottom of the other skirt. Use this as
needed for the skirts to completely
cover the electrical outlets
Fig. 6-E
Note: The intent of the electrical skirt is to cover the electrical outlets in the front
and slightly around the sides. Do not cover other parts of your generator with the
electrical skirts, especially the exhaust area!
-You will notice that the left and ride side of the electrical skirt goes up at an
angle as compared to the main body of the skirt. Where the angle starts (about
6 inches from either side) corresponds to the corner of the GenTent. Press
either corner on first, then wrap that edge around and press firmly. Now press
the main skirt body over the electrical outlet to the other corner, then wrap that
edge around and press firmly in place.
Proper Door Sealing Tip
-GenTent now ships with the StormBracer™ door. This door wraps around the adjacent
sides of the GenTent much like the skirts, forming a brace against storms. Each time you
close the door, it must be pressed firmly back in place. If this is not done, holes may
exist between the pieces of Velcro® which can allow water to seep in.
-In practice, the best way to achieve this is to close the door, then follow this procedure:
oAlign the door properly so that the side Velcro and lower Velcro are aligned as
closely as possible and are touching
oThen starting at the top corner of the door pinch canopy around the frame rods
and slide your hand to the bottom while pinching.
oRepeat on the other side
oCheck the door sides to see if you can see any gaps in the Velcro sealing. Should
there be any gaps, repeat the pinching procedure.
Note: Pull the door down and connect the bottom Velcro first, then use the pinch
& slide technique above to secure the sides. The bottom edge should cover the
under flap stitching!
