Programs
Your bread maker has 15 programs to choose from.
Press the MENU button on the control panel repeatedly to select the
program you require.
1. BASIC Use to make a standard loaf of bread. You can add additional ingredients such
as seeds when the machine beeps during the kneading stage.
Use to make loaf with a crisper crust and a lighter texture.
Use to make a standard loaf using wholemeal flour. Do not use the delay
feature for this program.
Use to make a loaf in a shorter time than the basic setting. The loaf will be
smaller and a little denser.
Use this to make bread using gluten free flour. You can add additional
ingredients such as seeds when the machine beeps during the kneading stage.
Use to knead and rise dough but without baking. This is good for making pizza
bases, rolls and steamed bread.
This is used to knead the dough only with no rise.
Use this to mix and bake cakes in your bread maker. This program is intended
to bake traditional recipes which use yeast as the raising agent.
Use this program to make a bread with a light texture and a soft thin crust.
Use to make bread that requires a longer time than the basic programs. You
can only make a large (900g) loaf.
Use to make jams and marmalades in your bread maker. The fruit must be cut
into small pieces.
Use to make yoghurt in your bread maker.
Use to only bake with no kneading or rise.
Use this to change the times of all the knead, rise, bake or keep warm settings
for a custom program. Press the CYCLE button to move between the different
stages of the program, using the TIME button to adjust each stage to your
preference. When you have made your selections, press the ON/OFF button
to start your custom program.
The time range for each cycle is as follows:
Knead 1: 6 to 14 mins Rise 1: 20 to 60 mins Knead 2: 5 to 20 mins
Rise 2: 5 to 40 mins Rise 3: 0 to 60 mins Bake: 0 to 80 mins

How to make bread
This section will go through the process for making a loaf of bread.
IMPORTANT: The maximum amount of flour is 490 grams and the
maximum amount of water is 340 grams (340 millilitres).
1. Place the baking pan in the bread maker and lock in place by turning
it clockwise.
2. Place the kneading blade on the drive shaft in the baking pan. You
can grease the drive shaft and kneading blade with a little butter or
margarine to help release the loaf after baking.
3. Place the ingredients in the baking pan in the following order:
4. Place the liquid into the bottom of the baking pan.
5. Place the flour on top of the liquid.
6. Make a small shallow indentation in one corner of the flour and pour
the salt into it.
7. Make another small indentation in the opposite corner of the flour
and pour the yeast. Important: Always ensure the yeast does not
come into contact with either the salt or liquid.
8. Close the lid and plug the bread maker in and press the MENU
button to select the desired bread program.
9. Press the COL. button to select the desired crust colour.
10. Press the LOAF button to select the size of loaf you are making.
11. Set the delay time by pressing the TIME button as explained in Delay
function section.
12. Press the ON/OFF button to start the cooking process.
13. If you have selected the Basic, French, Whole wheat, Quick, Sweet,
Gluten free, Cake, Sandwich or Homemade, 10 beeps will sound
during the cooking process. This is to prompt you to add additional
ingredients. To do this open the lid and put the ingredients into the
baking pan.
14. Important: Steam may come out of the vents on the bread makers lid
during the cooking process. Take care as steam can burn.
15. When the cooking process has finished, you will hear 10 beeps and
the bread maker will enter the keep warm function.

。
12
16. Press the ON/OFF button to turn the keep warm function off. The
keep warm function will automatically turn off after 60 minutes. Turn
the bread maker off by removing the plug from the mains socket and
open the lid with an oven glove. Still using the oven glove to rotate
the baking pan handle anti-clockwise and lift out of the bread maker.
17. Slide a non-stick spatula down the sides of the baking pan to loosen
the bread from the sides of the baking pan.
WARNING: The bread and baking pan will be very hot. Always
handle with care and use an oven glove.
18. Turn the baking pan upside down and gently shake the bread out of
the pan onto a raised cooling rack. If the kneading blade has become
stuck in the loaf, leave the bread to cool before attempting to pull it
out as it will be very hot and you could burn yourself. Use the metal
hook supplied to carefully remove the kneading blade from the loaf.
19. Leave the bread to cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
20. Once the bread maker and baking pan have cooled, clean following
the ‘Cleaning’ instruction on page 6.
21. Ensure that all parts of the bread maker are clean and dried before
storing the bread maker. Place the measuring cup, hook and
measuring spoon in the baking pan and store in a dry place.
Quick bread tips
• If you are making quick bread using baking powder and/or baking
soda that activates with moisture and heat, for perfect breads, we
suggest that all the liquids be placed at the bottom of the baking pan
and the dry ingredients on to the top.
• During the initial mixing of quick bread, clumps of unmixed
ingredients may collect in the corners of the baking pan where the
kneading blade does not reach.
• To solve this problem, press the ON/OFF button once to pause the
cooking program and use a rubber spatula to scrape them into the
mixed ingredients.
• Press the ON/OFF button again to continue the baking program, or
the program will automatically resume after 10 minutes.

Warnings
• If the display shows HHH (accompanied with 5 beeps) after you have
pressed the ON/OFF button, this shows the temperature in the bread
maker is too high. Press the ON/OFF button again to switch the
program off. Open the bread maker’s lid and allow to cool for 10 to
20 minutes.
• If the display shows LLL (accompanied with 5 beeps) after pressing the
ON/OFF button, this shows the temperature in the bread maker is
too low. Press the ON/OFF button again to switch the program off.
Ensure the appliance is at room temperature of 16ºC or above.
• If the display shows Err after pressing the ON/OFF button, this shows
the temperature sensor is damaged. Unplug the bread maker and
have it examined and repaired by a qualified engineer.
Bread ingredients
Yeast
We recommend using fast action/easy bake yeast in your bread
maker. This is commonly available in packs of small sachets, which
helps to keep it fresh before use.
Fast action / Easy bake yeast: This yeast can be added dry to your flour
and does not need to be activated with sugar and water. Always check
the yeast packet to ensure the yeast does not require activating before
use.
IMPORTANT: NEVER place the salt and the yeast in the same part of the
baking pan as the concentrated salt will kill the yeast before it starts to
work.
GEORGE GBM101W-21 Bread maker.indd 13 16/06/2021 08:01

。
14
Flour
White bread flour: White bread flour is high in gluten which gives the
bread dough a lot of elasticity. This helps to keep the gas bubbles in
the bread making it more stable and preventing it from collapsing. As
the gluten content is higher than plain flour, it can be used to make
larger loaves with a finer inner texture. Bread flour is the most important
ingredient when making bread.
Brown bread flour: Brown bread flour is ground from whole grains
and contains approximately 85% of the whole grain. Brown bread flour
contains more nutrients and fibre than white bread flour. The bread made
from brown bread flour is usually smaller in size and a bit heavier. You can
mix white bread flour with brown bread flour to achieve the best result.
Wholemeal bread flour: Wholemeal bread flour is very high in fibre and
is similar to brown bread flour but contains 100% grain. To get a large
lighter loaf of bread you will need to add a larger amount of white bread
flour.
Plain flour: Plain flour contains much smaller amounts of gluten and is not
very good for making bread.
Self-raising flour: Self-raising flour contains baking powder and is best
used for cakes.
Corn and oatmeal flours: These flours are used to enhance the flavour
and texture of bread.
Sugar
Sugar is needed to feed yeast during the kneading and rising stages. It
can also be used for sweetening bread and improving the colour of the
crust. Generally white sugar (granulated or caster) is used but you can use
brown sugar if you wish and you can also use honey.
Salt
Salt is needed to add flavour to your bread and improve the colour of the
crust. Never allow the yeast to come directly into contact with salt as it
will kill the yeast and prevent the bread from rising.
GEORGE GBM101W-21 Bread maker.indd 14 16/06/2021 08:01

。
15
Egg
Eggs can be used to improve the texture of the bread. Always whisk the
egg thoroughly before adding it to the baking pan.
Butter and oils
Butter and oils are added to make the bread softer and will improve the
shelf life of the bread. Always allow the butter to reach room temperature
and chop into small pieces before adding to the baking pan.
Baking powder/soda
Baking powder and soda are used as raising agents in cakes. Bicarbonate
of soda is also used as a raising agent for soda bread.
Water and other liquids
Ensure the water is between 20ºC and 25ºC before adding it to the
baking pan. Hot water will kill the yeast. You can replace the water with
milk or mix the milk and water together. The milk will improve the flavour
and enhance the crust. Some breads use liquids such as apple, orange or
lemon juice to enhance the flavour of the bread.
Measuring the ingredients
It is very important that you carefully measure the ingredients you are
going to use to make your bread. We strongly suggest that you use
the measuring cup and spoon provided to ensure you use the correct
amount.
Liquid ingredients
Water or fresh milk should be measured using the measuring cup. Check
the level of the liquid in the measuring cup by holding up in line with your
eyes and ensure the cup is not tilted. If you have measured oil or similar
ingredients, clean the measuring cup thoroughly.
Dry ingredients
Weigh the dry ingredients on an accurate set of scales that have been
zeroed when you place the dish on them. Use the measuring spoon for
smaller amounts of dry ingredients.

16
Adding sequence
Follow the sequence stated in the recipe. The preferred sequence for
your bread maker is as follows:
Liquid ingredients.
Egg (whisked).
Flour ( if you are using milk powder mix it into the flour).
Salt (in a corner).
Yeast (in the opposite corner).
Butter (room temperature cut into small pieces).
Important: If you are using the delay function, never add perishable
items such as eggs or fruit.
