Battery Maintenance Guidance
BeforeyouuseyourNotebookontheroad,youwillhavetochargethebatterypack.Thebatterypack
beginstochargeassoonastheNotebookisconnectedtoexternalpowerusingthepoweradapter.Fully
chargethebatterypackbeforeusingitforthersttime.Anewbatterypackmustcompletelycharge
beforetheNotebookisdisconnectedfromexternalpower.Ittakesafewhourstofullychargethebattery
whentheNotebookisturnedOFF.Pleasenotethebatterystopschargingifthetemperatureistoohigh
orthebatteryvoltageistoohigh.
NOTE:Donotleavethebatterypackdischarged.Thebatterypackwilldischargeovertime.If
notusingabatterypack,itmustcontinuedtobechargedeverythreemonthtoextend
recoverycapacityorelseitmayfailtochargeinthefuture.Lithium-Ionrechargeablebatteries
requireroutinemaintenanceandcareintheiruseandhandling.Readthroughbelow
instructionandyourNotebookwillachievethemaximumbatterylifespan.
Battery Maintenance :
● Donotleavebatteriesunusedforextendedperiodsoftime,eitherintheNotebookorinstorage.
Whenabatteryhasbeenunusedfor3months,checkthechargestatusandchargeordisposeof
thebatteryasappropriate.
● ThetypicalestimatedlifeofaLithium-Ionbatteryisabouttwotothreeyearsor300to500charge
cycles,whicheveroccursfirst.Onechargecycleisaperiodofusefromfullycharged,tofully
discharged,andfullyrechargedagain.Useatwotothreeyearlifeexpectancyforbatteriesthatdo
notrunthroughcompletechargecycles.
● RechargeableLithium-Ionbatterieshavealimitedlifeandwillgraduallylosetheircapacitytohold
acharge.Thislossofcapacityisirreversible.Asthebatterylosescapacity,thelengthoftimeitwill
powertheNotebookdecreases.
● Theruntimeofyourbatterywillvarydependingontheproduct’scongurationandtheapplications
thatyourun.Routinelycheckthebattery’schargestatus.
● Batteryterminalsmustavoidcontactwithanymetallicsubstance.Forpreventingshortage,
avoidsilvercoins,tinselsandanyothermetallicsubstancestocontactthe+and-terminalsof
thebattery.Forexample,Itmighthappenbyinsertingthebatteriestoacoatpocketoraleather
handbagwithsomemetallicsubstancesmountedonit(metalbuttonsorzippers).Thereishigh
possibilityofcausingshortcircuitsandconnectiondamageofthebattery.
● Considerreplacingthebatterywithanewoneifyounoteeitherofthefollowingconditions:
(1)Thebatteryruntimedropsbelowabout80%oftheoriginalruntime.
(2)Thebatterychargetimeincreasessignicantly.
(3)Ifabatteryisstoredorotherwiseunusedforanextendedperiod,besuretofollowthestorage
instructionsinP10.Ifyoudonotfollowtheinstructions,andthebatteryhasnochargeremaining
whenyoucheckit,considerittobedamaged.Donotattempttorechargeitortouseit.Replace
itwithanewbattery.

Charging :
TheLithium-IonbatteryisrechargedinternallyusingtheACadapter.Torechargethebattery,make
surethebatteryisinstalledandtheNotebookisconnectedtotheACadapter.Thechargetimeswillbe
signicantlylongerifyourNotebookisinusewhilethebatteryischarging.Ifyouwanttochargethe
batterymorequickly,putyourcomputerintoSuspendmodeorturnitoffwhiletheadapterischarging
thebattery.PleasealwaysfollowthecharginginstructionsprovidedwithyourNotebook.
Low Battery State :
Whenthebatterylevelislow,anoticationmessageappears.Ifyoudonotrespondtothelowbattery
message,thebatterycontinuestodischargeuntilitistoolowtooperate.Whenthishappens,your
NotebookgoesintoSuspendmode.ThereisnoguaranteeyourdatawillbesavedoncetheNotebook
reachesthispoint.
CAUTION:ToprotectyourNotebookfromdamage,useonlythepoweradapterthatcame
withitbecauseeachpoweradapterhasitsownpoweroutputrating.
OnceyourNotebookgoesintosuspendmodeasaresultofadeadbattery,youwillbeunableto
resumeoperationuntilyouprovideasourceofpowereitherfromanadapterorachargedbattery.
Onceyouhaveprovidedpower,youcanpresstheSuspend/Resumebuttontoresumeoperation.In
Suspendmode,yourdataismaintainedforsometime,butifapowersourceisnotprovidedpromptly,
thepowerindicatorstopsashingandthengoesout,inwhichcaseyouhavelostthedatathatwasnot
saved.Onceyouprovidepower,youcancontinuetouseyourcomputerwhileanadapterchargesthe
battery.
Storage :
● Chargeordischargethebatterytoapproximately50%ofcapacitybeforestorage.
● Chargethebatterytoapproximately50%ofcapacityatleastonceeverythreemonths.
● RemovethebatteryandstoreitseparatelyfromtheNotebook.
● Storethebatteryattemperaturesbetween5°Cand20°C(41°Fand68°F).
CAUTION:Thebatteryself-dischargesduringstorage.Highertemperatures(above
20°Cor68°F)reducethebatterystoragelife.
* If you happen to leave your battery pack to go through an extended period of self-discharge, say more
than three months, the battery voltage level will become too low and needs to be Pre-Charged (to bring the
battery voltage level high enough) before it automatically resumes its normal Fast Charge. Pre-Charge may
take 30 minutes. Fast Charge usually takes 2~3 hours.

Handling Precautions :
● Donotdisassemble,crush,orpunctureabattery.
● Donotshorttheexternalcontactsonabattery.
● Donotdisposeofabatteryinreorwater.
● Donotexposeabatterytotemperaturesabove60°C(140°F).
● Keepthebatteryawayfromchildren.
● Avoidexposingthebatterytoexcessiveshockorvibration.
● Donotuseadamagedbattery.
● Ifabatterypackhasleakinguids,donottouchanyuids.Disposeofaleakingbatterypack(see
DisposalandRecyclingsection).Incaseofeyecontactwithuid,donotrubeyes.Immediately
flusheyesthoroughlywithwaterforatleast15minutes,liftingupperandlowerlids,untilno
evidenceoftheuidremains.Seekmedicalattention.
Transportation :
Alwayscheckallapplicablelocal,national,andinternationalregulationsbeforetransportingaLithium-
Ionbattery.Transportinganend-of-life,damaged,orrecalledbatterymay,incertaincases,be
specicallylimitedorprohibited.
Disposal and Recycling :
Lithium-Ionbatteriesaresubjecttodisposalandrecyclingregulationsthatvarybycountryandregion.
Alwayscheckandfollowyourapplicableregulationsbeforedisposingofanybattery.Contactyour
localbatteryrecyclingorganization.Manycountriesprohibitthedisposalofwasteelectronicequipment
instandardwastereceptacles.Placeonlydischargedbatteriesinabatterycollectioncontainer.Use
electricaltapeorotherapprovedcoveringoverthebatteryconnectionpointstopreventshortcircuits.

To install the battery please follow these steps:
1Slide the battery into the slot until both latches (Shown as A& B) “click”
into place. You may hear a “clicking” sound, once the battery is secure.
2Slide latch Ato the right to lock the battery in place.

1Connect the the power cord to the AC adapter.
2Connect the AC adapter to the DC-in jack on the left side of the notebook..
3Connect the power cord to the power outlet.
Switching on the Power :
After you turn on the Q1542 for the very first time, do not turn it off until the
operating system has been configured. Please note that the volume for the
audio will not function until Windows®Setup has completed.
Booting Up the Q1542 for the First Time :
Depending on your conguration, the Microsoft®Windows® Boot Screen will be
the rst screen that you will see as the notebook starts up. Follow the on-screen
prompts and instructions and enter your personal information to complete the
setup of the Windows®Operating System.

Function & Hot Key Indicators

The keyboard has a numeric keypad for easy numeric data input. Pressing the Fn+
NumLk keys turns on/off the numeric keypad. It also features function keys to allow you
to change operational features instantly. The function keys ( ~, F1~F12, NumLk, ScrLk)will
act as hot keys when pressed while the Fn key is held down.

System Recovery - Restore your Q1542 operating system.
The hard drive of the Q1542 has a hidden partition that contains a full backup image of
the operating system that can be used to recover the system in the event that
something happens to the operating system.
If the hard drive is removed or the partition deleted, the recover options will no
longer be available and a recovery service will be needed.
Launch System Recovery
The system recover feature is part of the Notebook installation and it ships preset
from the factory. The options menu allows you to launch the Windows®recovery tool
to reinstall the operating system to factory defaults. Below will briey describe how to
launch the recovery tool and to get the recovery started.
1.Turn off or restart the Notebook.
2.Turn the Notebook on and press and hold the F9 key to launch the tool.
3.The recovery window will open and give you the option
to "Recovery" in the toolbar. You will be prompted if you
want to recovery. Click on "Recovery" to begin the repair
if you do.
4.The "Recovering" window will open and begin the
recovery.
5.Once it is complete you will be prompted to reboot the
Notebook.
