Safety precautions
Not all of the functions described in this manual are available in all countries.
WRead this manual and the safety precautions carefully before use.
Explain their contents to your children, and the potential hazards
associated with using the telephone.
Only use the power supply unit supplied as indicated on the
underside of the base.
Insert only approved rechargeable batteries of the same type!
Never use ordinary (non-rechargeable) batteries as they may pose a
health hazard or cause injury.
Insert rechargeable batteries ensuring correct polarity (symbols are
marked in the
handset battery compartment).
The operation of medical appliances may be affected. Be aware of
the technical conditions within a particular environment (e. g. doc-
tor's practice).
The handset may cause an intrusive "hum" in hearing aids. Do not
hold the handset against your ear while it is ringing (incoming call).
Do not install the phone in a bathroom or shower room as the hand-
set and base are not splash-proof (see page 19).
Do not use the phone in explosive environments (e. g. paint shops).
If you give your telephone to someone else, make sure you also give
them the operating manual.
Dispose of the batteries and phone in accordance with environmen-
tal regulations.




Setting up the telephone for use
Connecting the base
Connect the phone jack to the phone cord and the power supply unit
(230 V) to the mains cable as shown and position the cable in the cable
recess.

◆Only use the power supply unit supplied as indicated on the
underside of the device.
◆If you buy another cable, ensure that it has the correct assign-
ment:
3-4 assignment of telephone lead/EURO CTR37.
◆Keep the power supply unit plugged in at all times.


Setting up the handset for use
Inserting the batteries
◆To open the battery compartment, press the clip on the compartment
cover inwards and lift up the cover.
◆Insert the batteries ensuring correct polarity (see figure on left).
◆To close, replace the battery compartment cover as shown and press it
closed until it locks into place.
Registering the handset on the base
You must register the handset on the base in order to make calls.
The display shows *--*--*. Now place the handset on the base with the dis-
play facing forwards; REGISTER HS flashes in the display. After around one
minute the handset is registered on the base. The idle display is shown (bat-
tery symbol and the internal number of the handset in the top left, plus the
date and time, if they have been set).
If "automatic registration" has not been successful after approx. 1 minute,
either remove the handset from the base for approx 5 seconds and then insert
it again, or register it manually (see page 9).

◆Only fit the recommended rechargeable batteries of the
same type recommended by Siemens on page 19. Never
use ordinary (non-rechargeable) batteries as they may pose a
health hazard or cause injury.
◆Do not use a non-Siemens charging unit as this could damage
the batteries.

Charging batteries
Leave the handset in the base for approx. ten hours to charge the batteries.
The batteries are fully charged after this time. The battery charging status is
correctly displayed only after uninterrupted charging/discharging. Therefore,
do not interrupt the charging process.
Charging is controlled electronically. This prevents the batteries from over-
loading. The batteries heat up during charging. This is normal and not danger-
ous. For technical reasons, the charging capacity of the batteries reduces after
some time.
Making calls

6enter the number, press ('(talk key).
To end the call: press ('(end call key).
You can also press and hold the talk key ('first and then enter the tele-
phone number – each digit is dialled immediately.
You can use the end call key ('to cancel dialling.
Answering a call
Your telephone rings (ringer) and the talk key flashes.
('Press the talk key.
Last number redial
Your handset automatically saves the last ten telephone numbers dialled. If
names have been saved for these numbers in the directory, then these names
will be displayed.

Calling line display
When you get a call, you will see the caller's number in the display. The caller
name will displayed if saved in the directory.
Requirements:
1. You have asked your network provider for the caller's number to be dis-
played on your handset screen (CLIP).
2. The caller has asked the network provider for his number to be identified
(CLI).
The duration of the call is displayed while the call is in progress.
Directory
In the directory, you can store the name (max. 12 characters) and telephone
numbers (max. 22 digits) of up to 30 people.

A charge may be levied for CLIP. Please ask your network provider
about this.

message key *flashes.

New entries in the caller list are indicated by the symbolnin the top left of the

Barging in on an external call
At least two handsets are registered on the base. You are conducting an exter-
nal call. An internal party can cut into this call and take part in the conversa-
tion. This is indicated by a signal tone.
Requirement: the barge-in function is switched on.
Activating/deactivating the function
Internal barge-in
Requirement: a handset is conducting an external call.
Handset paging
If you have mislaid your handset, you can page it with the help of the base.
Press the paging key \on the front right of the base and all registered hand-
sets will ring for 30 seconds.
Ending search prematurely: press the paging key on the base or the talk
key -'on the handset.

Registering Gigaset A34 handsets manually
You can register up to three Gigaset A34 handsets on your Gigaset A345 Inter-
nal calls cannot be made.
After registration, the handset reverts to idle status and you hear the confir-
mation tone.

◆the handset supplied has been replaced,
◆the base has been restored to its factory settings.

Handset volume
You can set the handset volume by pressing the 3and 2keys either during
a call, or after first pressing and holding the talk key.
Ringer volume and ringer melodies
You can also use the 3and 2keys to set the ringer volume while the phone
is ringing.

Time setting for day/night function
You can switch the ringer on your telephone off and on again with the .key.
You can also switch the ringer on again automatically at a specific time by
programming the D/N TIMER function as follows. Requirement: the date and
time have already been set.
Display language
If you do not understand the language that has been set, press:

Ringer volume
The ringer also sounds from the base. You can set the ringer volume for the
base.
Ringer melody
If several handsets are registered, you can change the ringer melody on the
base.
+Open menu.


(getting louder) and confirm. Level 0 turns
the ringer off.
For incoming calls, the ringer volume can be adjusted on the base
with the 0keys. The setting is retained until the next time the
volume is adjusted.

If only one handset is registered, then the base sounds the melody

Using the answering machine
The Gigaset A345 has a built-in answering machine. Up to 14 minutes' worth
of calls can be recorded. Recorded calls are played back with the date and
time, if set (see page 10).
Operating the answering machine
The answering machine is operated with the keys on the base.
Meaning of the keys
Adjust volume during message playback:
= quieter; = louder.
On/Off key: Switches the answering
machine on and off.
Flashes for as long as there is at least one
new message.
Playback/Stop key:
Short press: New messages only.
Long press: All messages.
Pressing during playback cancels play-
back.
Paging key: Used to search for handsets.
Back/Next key:
Short press: Goes back to the beginning
of the message.
Long press: Goes to the next message.
Delete key: Deletes the current message
or personal announcements during play-
back.
Announcement key: For recording and
playing back your personal announce-
ments.

Switching the answering machine on and off
The answering machine is switched on and off with the Ykey. This key now
lights up. The Ykey will flash if there are new messages on the answering
machine which you have not yet played back.
Recording a personal announcement
A caller will hear a standard pre-recorded announcement if you do not record
your own personal announcement. You record personal announcements with
the handset.
If the memory is full the answering machine turns itself off and
the Yflickers. In this case, delete old messages to free up mem-
ory space and the machine will turn itself on again automatically.

◆Recording ends automatically if the maximum recording time
of 170 seconds is exceeded or there is a break in speech for
more than 2 seconds.
◆You will see the message "Memory Full" if there is less than
20 seconds available at the start of the recording. In this case,
delete old messages to free up memory space.
◆Recording is interrupted if an outside call arrives during
recording.

Playing back/deleting your personal announcement
Playing back messages
The date and time of each message is logged, provided these items have been
set (see page 10). New messages that have not yet been played back are indi-
cated by the Ykey flashing on the base.
Deleting an individual message
Picking up a call from the answering machine
While the answering machine is recording a call you can pick the call up by
pressing the talk key on your handset – this cancels the recording.
[Press the key briefly. You hear your personal announce-
ment.

Wait for the confirmation tone. The announcement is
saved.
VPress the key briefly:
Plays back the first new message. If there are no new messages, the
old messages are played back.
Press key and hold:
Plays back the new messages first and then the old messages.
Press the key during message playback:
Ends the playback.
UPress the key briefly:
Plays back the current message again.
Press key and hold:
Skips to the next message.
Press the key several times:
Skips to the beginning of the previous message.
XPress the key after an old message has played back. You hear a con-
firmation of the deletion over the loudspeaker.

Setting up the answering machine
Listening in on the base
While an incoming call is being recorded you can listen in on the loudspeaker
in the base.
Ring delay
You can set a delay time before the answering machine switches itself on to
answer a call.
Recording time
You can specify the amount of time that is available for recording calls.

Restoring the telephone to the factory settings

When you restore the factory settings, the mobile phone is de-registered and
you must re-register it on your base (see page 4).
