SERVICING LATCH TYPE II HOUSING
The instructions immediately below are applicable to housings equipped
with the Latch Type II mechanism.
Step Action – Type II Latch
1. Unpack the service kit and inspect the contents to verify that
no damage has been incurred in transit.
1. Hold the FRONT COVER of the housing and with your free
hand rotate the yellow release lever anticlockwise
2. Without releasing the lever, remove the FRONT COVER
completely away from the HOUSING BASE retaining the EPIRB.
3. Now rmly grasp the EPIRB and withdraw it from the
HOUSING BASE.
WARNING: DO NOT remove the EPIRB from its mounting bracket if it is
wet. To do so may allow the beacon to automatically activate. Ensure
the EPIRB is thoroughly dry before removal.
4. Press rmly on the spring plate (Figure 2) and undo the
stainless steel hex nut by turning it counter-clockwise.
5. Remove the yellow latching plate from the HRU bolt and
retain for re-use when re-assembling (Figure 9), then gradually
remove the applied pressure on the spring plate, allowing it to
curl forward and away from the HOUSING BASE.
6. Remove the yellow spacer plate from the HRU spigot and
retain for re-use when re-assembling.
7. Withdraw the HRU by sliding it forward o the bolt.
8. Loosen the stainless steel hex nut on the bolt (Figure 4)
suciently to allow the bolt’s head to slide sideways and
thereby disengage from the key slot in the HOUSING BASE
(Figure 4).
9. Replace the bolt and nut just removed with the replacement
parts provided. Note the head of the bolt must be rotated in
a specic orientation to allow it to fully engage sideways into
the slot, using a spanner to nip up the nut.
10. Place the new HRU over the bolt (Figure 5) and seat it within
the corresponding circular recess provided in the HOUSING
BASE (Figure 6).
11. Ret the yellow spacer plate which was previously removed
and retained onto the HRU spigot (Figure 7).
12. Press the spring plate fully back into HOUSING BASE and then
ret the yellow latching plate over the HRU bolt ensuring that
the key on the latching plate is located properly in the slotted
hole on the spring plate.
