A GOTIS AST-2 R documentation
This operating and maintenance manual explains GOTIS.
GOTIS means: Goldhofer OverTorque-Indication-System.
A.1 Introduction
This operating and maintenance manual summarises the most
important points for putting GOTIS into operating quickly and safely.
This GOTIS operating and maintenance manual does not replace
the general AST Operating and Maintenance manual. It forms a part
of the AST operating and maintenance manual.
You must comply with the warning instructions in the GOTIS
operating and maintenance manual and in the AST operating and
maintenance manual, in particular the safety information and the
“Important Notes” in the operating manual, as well as statutory
regulations and accident prevention legislation.
A.2 Proper use
GOTIS is a Goldhofer system used to monitor the nose wheel
torques.
GOTIS is used for all aircraft with overtorque requirements that are
approved for the Goldhofer AST product range. (see approvals)
Any other use is deemed to be improper use. The manufacturer is not
liable for any resulting damage; the risk is borne solely by the user.
A further condition of proper use is that the manufacturer’s
prescribed operating, maintenance and repair regulations must be
complied with.
Unauthorised changes to GOTIS will negate all liability by the
manufacturer for any damages that may be incurred as a result of
such changes.

1.0 GOTIS Monitoring / Operator Controls
The monitoring / operator controls for GOTIS consist of just three
indicator lamps on the cockpit display module (CDM) and a
key-operated switch located on the internal panelling of the cab.

Please also observe Part 1 of the the Operating Instructions (BA).
Item Name Description
1 Status of vehicle and GOTIS Lit green
When the green indicator lamp is illuminated, it
means that the vehicle and GOTIS are ready for
operation.
An aircraft with overtorque requirement may be moved only
when the status lamp (green) is signalling ready for operation,
after the aircraft has been picked up and throughout the
journey.
In the case of aircraft without overtorque requirement, the
status lamp (green) is likewise illuminated, indicating that it is
ready for operation. In this case however, ready for operation
does not mean that the aircraft is being monitored by GOTIS.
If, having selected the wrong aircraft (see also Part 1 of the AST
operating instructions) on the TDM, that selection is confirmed
a second time, the Operator bears sole responsibility for the
procedure. The manufacturer is not liable for any damage
arising from such action.

Item Name Description
2 Warning lamp (yellow) Warning
threshold
If the torque at the nose wheel exceeds 70% of the
current limit value, the yellow warning light starts to
flash. At the same time a buzzer sounds at regular
intervals.
If the torque steer force is reduced, the warning lamp goes out and
the buzzer stops sounding.
3 Alarm lamp (red) Alarm threshold
If the torque at the nose wheel exceeds the current
limit value, the red alarm lamp illuminates as well as
the yellow warning lamp.
At the same time a buzzer sounds at regular
intervals.
If the red alarm lamp is lit, the operator must specify and
document corresponding follow-up measures compliant with
all applicable regulations.
We recommend that all such measures are provided as AST
work instructions to the operator / driver.

1.2 GOTIS key-operated switch
The GOTIS key-operated switch (EST08) is attached to the inner
panelling in the cab and not to the seat turning device.

Item Name Description
EST08 Key switch Reset GOTIS
alarm
This key-operated switch can be used to reset the
alarm threshold (red alarm lamp) to normal
operation.
The ALARM may be reset only by authorised
personnel. The Operator must establish the
definition of authorised personnel.

2.0 Description of GOTIS
The Principle GOTIS monitors the torques (1) at the nose wheel whenever the
aircraft is in motion.
Its function corresponds to that of the torque pin on a towbar.
Two load cells integrated into the swivel arms (2) of the
transportation system constantly measure the torque steer forces
and transmit the readings to a micro-controller.
This micro-controller compares the current values against the stored
limit values given by the aircraft manufacturer.
Function The system starts up when the AST ignition is switched on. It then
carries out a lamp test and checks all the relevant signals. In the
event that this system check detects a fault, the fault is indicated as a
message on the TDM.
If an aircraft is then picked up, the system again checks that all the
relevant signals are correct. If no faults are present, the system
activates the green “Aircraft / GOTIS status” light in the CDM, thus
signalling that it is ready for operation. It is only from this moment that
the torque on aircraft with overtorque requirements will be monitored.
All the while that the torque steer forces are not in the critical range,
the green “Aircraft / GOTIS status” lamp signals to the driver than the
system is operating correctly. Once the aircraft is set down again, the
aircraft monitoring process ends.

Warning thresholds If the torque at the nose wheel exceeds 70% of the current limit value,
the yellow warning light starts to flash. At the same time a buzzer
sounds at regular intervals.
If the torque steer forces are reduced, the warning lamp goes out and
the buzzer stops sounding.
If the torque at the nose wheel exceeds the current limit value
(overtorque), the red alarm lamp illuminates as well as the yellow
warning lamp. At the same time a buzzer sounds continuously.
This alarm continues once the aircraft has been set down. The alarm
can be reset only at the key-operated switch. Switching the ignition
on and off does not cancel the alarm.
The operator must establish and document suitable measures
to be followed if overtorque occurs (red alarm lamp), in
accordance with SAE ARP 5285, and these must be put into
action.
We recommend that these measures be provided to the
operator/driver in the form of work instructions inside the AST.
If a fault occurs on the system, measurement is cancelled and the
event is signalled on the TDM in the form of a message.
Important note:
The GOTIS system only performs monitoring of the torque steer
force, corresponding to the role of the shear pin on a towbar. The
steering angle between the aircraft tractor and the aircraft is not
monitored.
Adherence to the steering angles permitted for different aircraft is the
responsibility of the tractor driver.

3.0 GOTIS maintenance intervals
The following maintenance schedule summarises the maintenance
intervals and tasks.
Due to the special operational conditions of the AST, maintenance
tasks are classified into one-time or periodic maintenance services,
depending on the operating hours, and into periodic special services.
The specified intervals refer to the displayed engine operating hours
on the instrument panel.
Clean the vehicle before performing any maintenance work!
The maintenance summary does not include permanently lubricated,
self-lubricating or automatically co-lubricating (e.g. greasing points
which are encapsulated or supplied by the central lubrication
system) or grease-free bearings and joints.
The Owner is obliged to comply with the maintenance intervals and
associated maintenance services. These should be noted on the
following maintenance record.
