Getting Started
Remove your DVD player carefully from the box. You may wish to
store the packaging for future use.
In The Box
Included in this package should be:
Goodmans DVD player
Remote control
User guide
Should any of these items be missing, please contact the helpline on
02392-391100.
Note: Unless otherwise stated, all references to buttons refer to the remote control.
Turning the unit on/off
Press the POWER button on the front of the unit or the POWER
button on the remote control.
Note: when you use the power button to turn the unit off, it is not disconnected
from the mains AC supply. This state is called the standby mode.
Screen Saver
Television screens can sometimes
be damaged by displaying a static
images for prolonged periods of
time. To prevent this, the DVD
player is equipped with an automatic
screen saver to protect your
television screen.
Pressing any button will deactivate the screen saver.

The Remote Control
Installing The batteries
Locate the remote control, and remove the battery cover.
Insert twoAAAsize batteries into the compartment.
Note: Refer to the diagram inside the battery compartment for correct installation of
batteries.
Using The Remote Control
To use the remote control, point it at the front of the DVD player,
towards the sensor situated to the right of the DVD drawer.
The remote control has a range of up to 6 meters from the DVD player
and at an angle of up to 60 degrees.
Do not block the path of the beam from the remote control to the DVD
player.
Note: Sunlight or very bright light will reduce the remote control sensitivity.

Connecting to a stereo television
Note: The following information is for guidance only
1. Option 1: RCA left and right audio (DVD) to RCA left and right audio
(TV), with RCA video (DVD) to RCA video (TV).
There are two ways to connect your DVD player to a stereo television.
2. Option 2: 21 Pin Scart (DVD) to 21 Pin Scart (TV).
Note: Do not use a combination of options 1 and 2, as this may produce picture
interference.

Note: The following information is for guidance only
1. Connect the FM wire aerial to the aerial input socket (DVD).

Compatible Discs
Your DVD player can play discs that are marked with the following
logos:
8cm/12cm DVD Video Discs.
12cm Compact Disc Recordable Discs.
12 cm Compact Disc Rewritable Discs.
8cm/12cm Compact Disc Audio Discs.
12cm MP3Audio Discs.
12cm Photo Compact Discs.
Region code
Since it is usual for DVD movies to be released at different times in different regions of the
world, all players have region codes and discs can have an optional region code. If you load a
disc of a different region code into your player you will see the region code notice on the
screen. The disc will not playback and should be unloaded.
The region code for this player is 2 as indicated by the symbols below.
The symbol left appears on the TV screen when the function requested is not available.

Inserting A Disc
Ensure the DVD player is connected to the mains and is correctly
connected to your television.
Note: For instructions how to connect your DVD player to your television see the
“Connecting To External Equipment” section (p9-12).
Press the POWER button on the front of your DVD player.
Press the EJECT button to open the DVD drawer.
Note: OPEN will show on the DVD display panel and the top left of the screen.
Place a compatible disc into the recess on the DVD disc tray. Make
sure that the label is facing up. Place 8cm discs on the inner recess.
Note: for a list of compatible disc formats see page 13
Press the EJECT button to close the DVD drawer.
Note: When the drawer has closed LOAD will show on the DVD display and
Loading will be displayed in the top left corner of the screen.

Language setup
Various language settings for the Audio track, Subtitles and Disc menu
can be preset on this DVD player. Choose from the options given.
Note: If the choosen language is not available on the DVD, the DVD will play in its
default language.
Menu systems
Ensure that the DVD player is in stop mode.
Press the SETUP button.
The setup menu will be displayed on the screen.

You can scroll through the menus using the arrow buttons on the
remote control. Once the required menu is highlighted, use the PLAY/

This mode will display movies in the centre of the screen, leaving a
black border at the right and left edges of the screen if you are using a
widescreen TV

This mode allows you to see movies in their original aspect ratio. The
entire frame of the movie will be displayed, but it will occupy a smaller
portion of the screen.
16: 9 mode
This mode should be used, when connected to a widescreen
television.

This DVD player supports NTSC, PAL and AUTO formats.
To select the relevant mode, ensure that the DVD player is in the stop
mode.
Note: the PAL format is generally used by televisions in the U.K. Check your
television user guide for advice.
Note: If NTSC is selected with a non-compatible television you may experience
interference or an unstable picture.
