Congratulations on your purchase of a Rango!!
At GoSense we are delighted to have you among our users. You are indeed one of the first owners
of a Rango! Thanks to your valuable user feedback and free software updates available on your
mobile, your Rango will progress in the months and years ahead.
Made in France and assembled by visually impaired people, Rango alerts you of obstacles on your
route by a sound feedback. In order to hear Rango's sound feedback while being alerted to your
surroundings, it is recommended to use extra-auricular earphones, like the Aidrives earphones
of GoSense.
To operate, Rango must be connected to your smartphone. Download the dedicated mobile
application "Rango" on the App Store or the Google Play Store. It is recommended to type "Rango
GoSense" in the search field of the app store to find the application more easily.
If you have an iPhone, you can otherwise click on the following link on your iPhone, to directly
access the application page: http://appstore.com/gosense/rango
If you have an Android phone, you can also click on the following link on your phone, to go directly
to the application page: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gosense.rango

Are you tired of banging or flirting with obstacles, whether on the shoulder or hip? Despite your
cane technique and optimal sweeping, do you ever miss obstacles with your white cane? Are you
afraid of bumping with overhead obstacles? Do you want full body protection without too many
feedbacks? You want a light product, easy to use and evolutive? So, Rango is for you!
Today Rango is delivered in a first evolutionary version which is very easy to use. Indeed, we
focused on producing a robust and easy-to-use first version. For this we worked on two important
projects: the first being to offer the user a full detection for protection of the whole body (from
head to toe, shoulder width); and the second project was to make Rango a product easy to use
by all, limiting as much as possible the sound feedbacks. Thus, in its first version, Rango will alert
only immediate obstacles that enter the shortened detection zone to 1.50 meters in front of you.
In testing phases, we realized that the white cane only detects obstacles at ground level and not
those at height. So Rango increases the white cane, detecting anything that is not detected by
your cane and your sweep. Finally, the promise of Rango is to alert the immediate presence of
an obstacle in front of you by a sound feedback, to offer you full security and ensure ease of use.
In practice, as soon as you hear the sound; you stop; you are looking for the obstacle with your
cane; then you go around the obstacle. Rango's goal is to protect your entire body.

Thanks to your valuable user feedback and free software updates available on your mobile, your
Rango will progress in the months and years ahead. The upcoming software updates will indeed
allow Rango to adapt its detection zone to your walking pace but also to offer a 3D sound
feedback for a more precise location of where the obstacle is compared to you. Of course, you
will always be protected from head to toe and shoulder width, but from 0 to 2.50 meters. Thus,
in the more advanced versions of Rango, you will discover what is a fluid path. That is to say, a
journey without your white cane shocking itself with an obstacle or that you do not hit or rub at
these same obstacles.
All these Rango functional upgrades will be offered free of charge. These updates will be made
through your dedicated mobile application "Rango".

Chapter 1: Getting started
Contents of the box
The box must contain the following items. If any of these items are missing or damaged, please
contact your dealer.
1. Rango
2. USB/Micro-USB cable
3. AC/USB charger

Overview
Rango has four thumb-accessible buttons, an LED to light your cane in the evening and a micro
USB charging connector. By manipulating Rango, you will also notice, on the face of the top of
the product, the presence of three ultrasonic sensors (they are not buttons) and on the bottom
of the product, a connector with four contacts present next to the LED, which will serve for a
future charging stand (not delivered with Rango).

Fixation on your cane
Take your Rango in one hand and then open the "U" grip behind your Rango. To open the grip an
outward force of the product must be exerted.
Then place your Rango on the handle of your white cane. Close the grip. If this is difficult,
make sure that the clamping screw is unscrewed as far as possible. If necessary, also think
about sliding Rango down your grip. At closing you will hear a clip or feel a notch click.

Then, so that your Rango is well attached to your cane, remember to tighten the screw grip
with the help of a coin. Check that Rango does not move. If so, Rango is in place.
While on the move, place your thumb on the main button and your index finger on Rango's
side.

First connection of Rango to your phone
•Step 1: Download the Rango app to your phone from the App Store (on iPhone) or the
Google Play Store (on Android).
•Step 2: Activate the Bluetooth of your phone and launch the Rango application.
•Step 3: Switch on Rango by pressing the bottom button (the biggest of the 4).
•Step 4: In the mobile app, press the "Start Pairing" button at the bottom of your screen.
•Step 5: The app tells you that Rango is paired with your phone.
Getting Started with Rango
•Step 1: Put on your headphones.
•Step 2: Connect the headphones to your phone, check that your phone's volume is at
maximum or close to maximum.
•Step 3: Launch the Rango application.
•Step 4: Lock your phone and put it in your pocket.
•Step 5: Turn on Rango.
•Step 6: Test Rango in a secure environment outdoors. Place yourself in front of a wall,
then move forward by sweeping with your cane. As soon as you get close to the wall, you
hear a sound (faster and faster) alerting you of its immediate presence. Step back: the
sound feedback should slow down and stop; the wall is no longer a danger.
Using the buttons

The thumb zone on the top of Rango consists of 4 buttons: up, down, left and right.
The bottom button, which is also the biggest one, is the "validation" and "on/off" button of
Rango. When Rango is switched on and connected to your phone, if you press the "validation"
button, a voice will tell you your location, time, and Rango's battery level.
The top button is the "back" and "home" button.
The left and right buttons allow you to access your various Rango features via a circular menu.
Extinction and standby of Rango
To turn off Rango simply press and hold down the button at the bottom of your thumb zone, the
biggest button. You hear a set of beeps from Rango and the message “Rango is shutting down”
in your headphones. You know then that Rango is off.
A standby mode is also integrated with Rango. It engages automatically when you bring your
cane up. The standby mode is a mode that allows Rango to conserve his battery. During the
standby mode Rango is not turned off but the detection is no longer active. Rango goes out of
standby mode as soon as you start using your cane again.
If you forget to turn off your Rango, it will turn off automatically after 4 minutes of inactivity.

Charging & battery life
In continuous use and therefore without stopping or without stopping your cane, Rango can hold
3 hours and a half. But you have understood that the standby mode saves your battery and you
avoid unnecessary sound feedbacks. For everyday use, we can estimate that your Rango can hold
2 days before having to be recharged.
The standby mode is activated automatically at two points: when you put your cane vertically
back towards you, Rango understands it and puts itself in standby mode. The detection is then
deactivated. The idea is that by your behavior you tell Rango that you are no longer in the action
of looking for obstacles. Therefore, in addition to conserving your battery, Rango avoids
disturbing you with unnecessary sound alerts. However, if you want to keep the active detection,
just leave your white cane in displacement and Rango will stay on the lookout. The other situation
is that if you put down Rango, cane folded or not, then Rango immediately goes into standby
mode. If it is disconnected from the phone, then after 4 minutes Rango will turn off by itself.
You can check your battery level yourself through the thumb zone and the validation button, big
bottom button. A voice then indicates you several useful information including the battery level.
Soon a voice will tell you, the remaining percentage and how much time is left before Rango turns
off.
To recharge your Rango, take your USB cable and connect it to Rango. The USB port is in the
lower part of Rango. After 2 hours, Rango's battery is 100% charged. To find out where the
charging level is while your Rango is charging, unplug it, turn it on and open your Rango app.
Press the bottom button or the confirm button. A voice will tell you different information
including the battery level of your Rango. Although technically it can work, Rango should not be
used while it is charging.

Understanding audios feedbacks
Sounds coming from Rango
Rango embarks a beeper that allows it to emit sounds.
On switching on and off, Rango emits a sound. If needed and to locate your Rango or your white
cane, you can also ring Rango from your mobile application by going into your settings.
Sounds coming from the phone
Rango is connected to your smartphone and has its own mobile app. Your smartphone manages
the sound interface of Rango. Thus, your phone transmits via your headphones, the obstacle
warning sound, but also vocalized information on your location, time, battery level Rango and
your various features (also accessible through the 4 buttons of the thumb zone of your Rango).

Chapter 2: Your Rango daily
Using the cane with Rango
You can fold your white cane while leaving Rango fixed on it.
When traveling, it is possible that you do not always hold your cane perfectly straight. No worries,
Rango compensates for this in order to stay functional and continue to protect you from head to
toe and shoulder width. It is simply important to avoid Rango being turned completely to the side
or to the ground.
Maintenance & cleaning
To clean your Rango, wipe it with a soft cloth or sponge with soap and water. Avoid solvents.
Your repair kit
Rango is protected against impact by two plastic parts loaded with fiberglass. These two rings,
placed at the ends of Rango, are the first points of contact in case of fall of your product. Although
thought to be the most robust possible, please be informed that if they come to break, it is
possible to change them. You will soon be able to order a repair kit on our website
www.gosense.com.
Important safety information
Obstacle detection
Although we make a point of honor to create a full protection, we can not guarantee that Rango
will detect all obstacles in all situations. At times, Rango can for example be disturbed by the
ground harshness. Nevertheless, know that we are already testing technical tracks to improve
this.
Finally, we rely on your feedback to improve Rango in the coming months and years with free
software updates.
Battery
Do not attempt to replace the battery of your Rango yourself, as it may damage the battery and
cause overheating, fire and injury. The lithium-ion battery in your Rango must be replaced by
GoSense or a GoSense-approved service center. It must be recycled or disposed of separately
from household waste. Dispose of batteries in accordance with local laws and regulations.

Once the battery temperature is back to normal, performance returns to normal.

Chapter 3: Frequently asked questions
Does Rango work on Android?
Rango works well with Android. Nevertheless, some prerequisites are necessary to pair Rango
with your smartphone. Make sure that your smartphone has Bluetooth 4.0 or higher and a
version of Android 5.0 or higher.
Does Rango work with specialized smartphones (Doro Smartvision, ...)?
The specialized smartphones such as Kapsys Doro Claria Vox or Olga phone are not compatible
with Rango. Nevertheless, the SmartVision 2 is compatible with Rango.
My Rango has no longer sound feedback, or no longer reports my location, time or battery
level; is this normal?
If there is a problem with your Rango, remember to restart your phone; once your phone is on,
check that Bluetooth is enabled, turn on your Rango mobile app, then your Rango. Once Rango
connected everything should work again. If the problem persists, visit forum.gosense.com.
Does Rango stand up to shocks?
Rango has been designed to withstand shocks, thanks to two fiber-filled plastic parts, which are
placed at the ends. Rango underwent several "crash tests" which were very conclusive. However,
it can happen that your Rango is damaged after a violent shock. A repair kit will soon be available
on our website www.gosense.com in ecommerce.
Is Rango waterproof? Is it resistant to rain?
Rango complies with the protection rating "IP 64", which is fully protected against dust and
splashing water from all directions.
Does Rango work indoors?
Rango has been designed to work outdoors. However, Rango can also work indoors. You may just
be alerted more often of the presence of a nearby obstacle. That said, remember that when you
put your cane upright and bring it back to you, Rango understands it and turns it off to save
energy. The idea is that by your behavior you tell Rango that you are no longer in the action of
looking for obstacles, and therefore in addition to conserving your battery, Rango avoids
disturbing you with unnecessary sound alerts. However, if you want to keep the active detection,
just leave your white cane in displacement and Rango will stay on the lookout.
Can Rango be hung on a cane without a handle, with a curved handle or with a flat face?
With its "U" grip and tightening screw, Rango attaches to any type of white cane. If you have a
round handle with a flat face, in order to better adjust the position of your Rango and in case of

difficulties, remember to check that your clamping screw is maximized and if necessary, slide
your Rango more down, until you can close the grip. Finally, tighten the clamping screw with a
simple coin.
In the case of a Czech Rango cane should be directly positioned on the tube of the cane just below
the handle.
Can Rango be attached to a dog harness guide?
Rango is used on a white cane, it was designed like that. It is important to sweep so that Rango
can correctly detect the dangers. In addition, the dog could be considered by Rango as an
obstacle.
How long can I keep my Rango until I have to buy another one?
At GoSense, we make are proud of designing robust and durable products.
It is in this dynamic that a repair kit will soon be available on our ecommerce website. A
replacement service for your battery is also provided.
Free software updates will also be offered regularly to improve the performance of your Rango.
Why use sound feedbacks rather than vibration?
The vibration feedbacks can be difficult to perceive, especially when wearing gloves.
Understanding the different vibrations is often laborious and requires more difficult learning. In
addition, the information they can transmit is limited.
At GoSense, we decided to reuse our instinctive ability to detect sounds in space. Indeed,
everyone easily detects the origin of sounds. It is partly thanks to this, that Rango is intuitive and
that it will allow you shortly, with a small training and a short time of adaptation, to locate
obstacles in 3 dimensions.
However, in order to provide a solution for those who prefer the feedbacks per vibrations, we
plan to make Rango compatible with a vibrating bracelet.
Can I put only one headset instead of both when using my Rango?
For now, yes, because we have not yet activated the Rango 3D sound interface.
Coming soon and to benefit from the 3D sound feedbacks, it will be essential to put your
headphones in both ears.

Can I use my Rango without a white cane?
We do not recommend it. Rango was designed to be used with a white cane. It is indeed
important to sweep so that Rango can correctly detect the dangers. So technically, if you perform
a sweeping motion and you hold Rango in front of you, it is possible, but not very ergonomic.
Will I be able to customize my sound and voice feedbacks?
Yes, this will be possible thanks to upcoming updates. So, in the settings of your Rango mobile
app, we will let you choose from a family of warning sounds for obstacles. You can also customize
your information transmitted by voice.
