Before you start:
1. Have all ne essary repair parts on hand. Re om-
mended spare parts are marked in the parts list
with a he k mark, for example (12n).
2. Pa king Repair Kits are available for some pumps.
See the parts list for your pump to order the or-
re t kit. Use all the new parts in the kit for the best
results. Kit parts are indi ated in the parts list with
an asterisk, for example (7*).
3. Always repla e the glands when repla ing the
pa kings, whether or not you use a repair kit.
4. Use a ompatible solvent to lean parts. Inspe t
for wear or damage and repla e parts as needed.
5. Use light, waterproof grease wherever lubri ation
is re ommended.
6. An adjustable pin spanner wren h with a 3.25 in h
apa ity and 1/4 in h pin will be ne essary for
performing step 9 under Disassembly and step 11
under Reassembly.
Disassembly (See Fig. 2)
WARNING
To redu e the risk of serious injury whenever you
are instru ted to relieve pressure, always follow the
Pressure Relief Procedure on page 4.
1. Flush the pump, if possible. Relieve the pressure.
2. Dis onne t the air and fluid lines. Remove the
pump from its mounting and lamp it in a vise.
Dis onne t the displa ement pump from the motor
as explained in your separate pump manual.
3. Loosen the pa king nut/wet- up (2). Uns rew and
remove the four tie bolts (31) and lo kwashers
(32). Pull the intake valve housing (19 and/or 20)
off the pump.
4. Remove and inspe t the intake valve gasket (7).
Uns rew the retainer and seat assembly (22) from
the intake valve housing (20). Remove the ball
stop pin (18), noting whi h holes it is in. Remove
the intake valve ball (21). Handle the ball carefully
as it can be easily damaged.
5. Clean all parts of the intake valve and inspe t
arefully for wear or damage. Inspe t the seat (C)
of the retainer and seat assembly (22), but do not
attempt to remove it. If the seat is worn or dam-
aged, repla e the entire retainer and seat assem-
bly.
6. Pull the pump ylinder (9) straight off the outlet
housing (6), being areful not to tilt it until it is lear
of the displa ement rod (38 ) and piston assembly
(B).
7. Inspe t the polished inner surfa e of the ylinder
(9) for s oring, wear or damage by running a finger
over the surfa e or holding the part up to a light at
an angle. Repla e if ne essary.
8. Remove the three s rews (17) and washers (16),
and disassemble the piston. Be very careful when
handling the ball (12) and seat (23) as they can be
very easily damaged. Clean all parts and inspe t
arefully for wear or damage.
9. Uns rew the pa king nut/wet- up (2) from the
outlet housing (6). Pull the displa ement rod (38 )
down out of the outlet housing. Remove and
inspe t the outlet housing gasket (7).
10. Push the throat pa kings and glands (A) out of the
outlet housing (6). Clean the outlet housing and
throat pa kings, and inspe t for wear or damage.
11. Inspe t the polished outer surfa e of the displa e-
ment rod (38 ) for s oring, wear or damage by
running a finger over the surfa e or holding the
part up to a light at an angle. Repla e if ne essary.
12. Do not disassemble the displacement rod
assembly unless necessary. Before disassem-
bling, arefully measure how far the adjustable
plunger rod (38e) protrudes from the lower ap
(38f). This determines the amount of piston ball
(12) travel. S rew the plunger rod (38e) out of the
displa ement rod assembly, and inspe t the o-
rings (38a) in pla e. Disassemble the upper and
lower aps (38d, 38f) from the displa ement rod
(38 ). Inspe t the o-rings (38b) in pla e.
