2Safety instructions
Do not touch the fence when the Solar fence energizer is connected to it.
Make sure that the fence does not come into contact with water surfaces such as puddles,
ditches etc.
Avoid direct sunlight. Install the fencer in a cool location with light wind movement.
Make sure the Solar fence energizer is always grounded. It will be necessary to regularly
mow under the fence to make sure it does not touch grass or bushes. (Make sure not to
cut the fence when mowing!)
The batteries of the Solar fence energizer must be inspected regularly. Please replace
empty batteries. Take the batteries out of the Solar fence energizer if it is not going to be
used for an extended period, as a precaution against possible battery leakage.
Do not crawl under, climb over, or crawl between the wires of an electric fence. Always use
a gate or a safely constructed stile.
Make sure there is no chance of getting stuck in the fence. Avoid electric fence designs in
which people and/or animals can get stuck easily.
Electric fences must be installed and operated in such a way that they present no hazard
to people, animals and/or their surroundings.
In all areas where there can be unsupervised children, a suitable tested current limiter with
a resistance of not less than 500 ohms must be connected between the Solar fence
energizer and the electric fence.
This appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without
supervision.
Do not place inflammable materials near the fence or the Solar fence energizer. The fencer
must be disconnected from the fence if there is a danger of fire.
The Solar fence energizer may be disassembled and repaired only by a trained electrician.
Any modifications to the equipment require the written approval of the manufacturer. Do
not touch parts bearing high voltage, as this can cause electrical shock.
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the equipment.

An electric fence may not be supplied by two different Solar fence energizer s or
independent connections from a single fencer.
If two separate electric fences are used, each supplied by a separate Solar fence energizer,
the interval between the wires of the two fences must be at least 2.5 m. If something is
placed in the space between the two fences, it must be of a non-conductive material.
Neither barbed wire nor razor wire may be electrified with the Solar fence energizer.
A non-electrified barbed wire fence can be used to support one or more rows of electrified
wire, if the wires are staggered and there is a vertical spacing of at least 150 mm between
the electrified and non-electrified wires. The non-electrified barbed wire must be grounded
at regular intervals.
If an electric fence crosses a public road or path, at this point the electric fence must have
a non-electrified gate or a non-electrified and safe stile. The electrified wires in the
immediate area of this gate or stile must bear warning signs.
On all public roads and paths must there must be easily visible warning signs every 100 m
bearing the words “DANGER: Electric fence”.
Crossings with high-tension lines must be avoided as far as possible. If such a crossing is
unavoidable, the electric fence wire must cross under the high-tension lines at a right angle
as far as possible.
If connections and wires of electric fences are installed in the vicinity of high tension lines,
the intervals must not be less than in this table:
Voltage in high tension line
Minimum distance between the lines
≤ 1000 V
3.0 m
> 1000 V to ≤ 33,000 V
4.0 m
> 33,000 V and if voltage is unknown
8.0 m
If connections and wires of electric fences are installed in the vicinity of high tension lines,
they must not be higher than 3 m over the ground. This height applies to each side of the
right-angle projection of the outermost cable of the high-tension line to the base surface,
for an interval of
o2 m for high-tension lines operating with a rated voltage up to 1000 V;
o15 m for high-tension lines operating with a rated voltage over 1000 V.
Electric fences designed to frighten off birds, fence in pets or train animals should be
operated with low electrical power that is sufficient to give adequate and sure effect.
Electric fences designed to keep birds from alighting on buildings must not have any wires
that are grounded or that touch metal parts of the building. There must be warning signs
at all points where persons could have free access to electrified components.
Electrified wire fences should be kept as far away as possible from telephone and telegraph
lines and radio antennas.
The warning sign must be at least 100 mm x 200 mm in size.
The background of the warning sign must be yellow, and the legend on it black. The sign
must either say:
o“DANGER: Electric fence” or
obear the following symbol:

Fig. 1
The legend or symbol must be permanently printed on both sides of the sign and be at
least 25 mm high.
The operator of the electric fence must ensure that all additional devices connected to the
fence that are operated by grid power have sufficient insulation between the electric fence
circuit and the supply grid. The degree of insulation must fit the power of the electric
fencer.
Additional devices must be protected from the weather, unless they are rated by the
manufacturer for outdoor use and have a minimum IPX4 protection level.
The Solar fence energizer complies with international safety regulations and is constructed to
international standards. The manufacturer retains the right to make changes to the product
specifications for the purpose of improving the reliability, function or design.

4Installation instructions
Installing the battery:
Fig. 4 Fig. 5
When attaching the battery, take care not to short-circuit the
supply wires. An arc may cause burns and fire.
Setting up the Solar fence energizer
Next to the electric fence
Preferably near the middle of the electric fence
Where it gets the most sunshine during the day in the season.
Where it can be well grounded.
On firm ground that will not flood, where animals and children cannot get to it (if
necessary, inside an additional protective fence). In the northern hemisphere the solar
panel should face south, in the southern hemisphere it should face north.
Installing the Solar fence energizer
The Solar fence energizer can be mounted directly on a steel Y or T-post using the post
mounting slot on the back of the unit.
Use the supplied mounting hardware for mounting on a wooden post. Put washers over the
nails. The nails should be 75 mm apart (a nail’s length apart). Hammer the nails in and let
them protrude 10 mm from the post.
Push the slot on the unit over the nails with washers (Fig. 6).
1. Place the unit on a level surface. Open
the battery compartment with a
screwdriver (see Fig. 4).
2. Insert the battery.

Connecting the electric fence
1. Drive a 1 m grounding rod almost all the way into the ground.
2. Connect the black cable of the Solar fence energizer’s ground connection to the
grounding rod.
3. Connect the red cable of the Solar fence energizer’s fence connection to the fence.
During installation, make sure that the cables on the Solar fence
energizer lead downward directly and without loops, in order to
prevent water from accumulating at the connections and causing
a short circuit.
5Operating the Solar fence energizer
After you turn on the Solar fence energizer the pulse indicator will blink once for each
output pulse.
When you turn it off, the pulse indicator will go dark.
If the pulse indicator does not come on when the unit is switched
on, the battery might be drained or be too weak, or the battery
connection may be inadequate. There can also be a defect in the
unit.
Battery deep discharge protection
An intelligent battery management function puts the unit in battery protection mode if the
charge falls under a safe operating condition.
In battery protection mode the unit is still on, but does not send
pulses to the electric fence.
It will do so again only after the solar panel has charged the battery to the safe operating
level.

Alternatively, the battery can be disconnected and charged with a charger, and then put back
in and reconnected.
Battery Information
The solar panel can fully charge an empty battery in three days if it is connected and there is
enough sunlight. The battery can be charged with a 14.4 V charger. The charger should have
an output voltage of 14.4 V and an output current not exceeding 1 A.
When the battery is fully charged, it should be able to operate for more than three weeks
(Model 0.2 J) or two weeks (Model 0.6 J) without sunlight.
Replacing the battery
When a new battery is needed, use a rechargeable lead battery with 12 V and 7.2 Ah (suitable
for all models).
Do not use non-rechargeable batteries. Do not dispose of
batteries in landfills or fire, but take them in for proper disposal.
If a lead-acid battery spills
Cover small amounts of acid with dry sand, earth and vermicelli,
and vacuum it up. Do not use inflammable materials Neutralize
spilt acid as carefully as possible with soda, potassium carbonate,
chalk etc. Wear acid-proof clothing, footwear, gloves and
face protection. Do not let acid get into drains.
Hazardous materials must always be disposed of in compliance with local laws.
6Maintenance of the Solar fence energizer
Clean the solar panel regularly with a soft cloth, glass cleaner or a mild cleanser solution and
water. This ensures that the solar panel works efficiently.
When transporting the unit protect the solar module so that its glass surface is not damaged.
If the unit will be in storage for an extended period, the battery can deep-discharge and be
damaged.
The unit should be stored in a room near a window through which sunlight can fall on the
unit. If this is not possible, the unit should be stored in a cool place. The battery should be
fully charged and taken out of the unit. The battery charge should then be refreshed manually
regularly, at least every six months, using a suitable 12 V charger.
Do not open the unit yourself and do not do any repairs to the
Solar fence energizer ! Always have an authorized dealer do repairs
and inspection. Electric shocks can cause property damage, injury
and death.

7Troubleshooting and maintenance
Fault / Problem
Solution / Action
The pulse indicator blinks but
the fence gives only a weak
shock.
Make sure all connections and the fence and ground
connections are tight and in good condition. If necessary,
remove corrosion and tighten the connections.
Also make sure that the grounding rod is almost all the
way in the ground. Check the fence for contact with trees,
bushes or other vegetation that could be diverting
current, and remove the vegetation.
Check to see whether the power of the Solar fence
energizer is sufficient for the length and/or number of
fence wires. If necessary, reduce the length of the fence
and/or number of fence wires.
Alternatively, you can divide the fenced-in area into
smaller areas with separate fences and separate Solar
fence energizers.
The pulse indicator does not
blink.
If the battery is insufficiently charged, then the unit may
be in deep-discharge protection mode. Charge the
battery by positioning the Solar fence energizer so that
the solar panel faces south if in the northern hemisphere,
or north if in the southern hemisphere.
If this does not charge the battery sufficiently, disconnect
the electric fencer from the fence and manually change
the battery with a battery charger.
If the battery is still not sufficiently charged, it will need
to be replaced.
Before putting a new battery in the Solar fence energizer,
charge it fully with a suitable charger.
If the LED on the Solar fence energizer still doesn’t come
on, consult your dealer.
The battery needs to be
changed frequently.
Make sure that the solar module is clean and undamaged.
Make sure that the Solar fence energizer is positioned so
that the solar panel gets maximum sunlight. Remove any
objects or plants that might shade the unit.
