Installation and Operating Instructions
The Instructions is applicable to the following outdoor units and the supplied
VRF indoor units, as well as the hydro-box and water tank:

The outdoor units described above are supplied with H-Series R410A VRF
indoor unit, hydro-box and water tank.

installation and operation.
Thank you for purchasing Gree air conditioner. Before operating your air conditioner, please
read the Installation and Operation Instructions thoroughly, and keep it properly for correct
use of this machine.

Instructions
During use, the total capacity of the indoor units running simultaneously shall not
be higher than the capacity of outdoor unit. Otherwise, it may result in inadequate
cooling (heating) volume from each indoor unit.
One air switch (or fuse) shall be installed for each indoor unit according to the
capacity of the air-conditioner unit, and one mains air switch shall be installed for
all indoor units. The air switch for each indoor unit is used for protection against
short circuiting and abnormal overloading, and it is usually closed. The mains air
switch is used for supplying or disconnecting the electric power to all indoor units.
To ensure smooth startup of the air-conditioner unit, the mains switch shall be
preset to “ON” status 8 hours before start of the operation.
After one indoor unit receives the shutdown signal, it is normal that the fan of this
indoor unit will continue to work for 20 ~ 70 seconds to utilize the residual cool or
residual heats in the heat exchanger. This is also to prepare for the next use.
When the run mode selected for indoor unit is in conflict with the run mode of
outdoor unit, the fault indicator on indoor unit will flash or the wired controller will
display the operation conflict after 5 seconds. The indoor unit will be stopped. In
this case, you may switch the indoor unit to a run mode that does not conflict with
the run mode of outdoor unit, so that it will be resumed to normal. The cooling
mode does not conflict with the dehumidifying mode. The fan mode does not
conflict with any other modes.
The communication cables and power cables shall not be wired together. They
must be routed separately at a minimum spacing over 20cm; otherwise, it might
result in communication malfunction.
The commissioning and repair people shall note that:
During commissioning or repair, the oil heating strip of the compressor must be
continuously energized for 8 hours or longer before the compressor is started!
Once the system compressor is started, make sure that the air conditioner unit
must run continuously for 30 minutes or longer; otherwise the compressor might be
damaged!

Safety Considerations
1 Before use, please read the Instructions thoroughly and operate the machine correctly
according to the guideline herein.
2 We require your special attention to the meaning of these two symbols:
WARNING!: A symbol indicating that improper operation might cause human death or severe injury.
CAUTION!: A symbol indicating that improper operation might cause human injury or damage.
WARNING!
The installation work shall carried out by franchise repair station. Improper installation might cause
water leakage, electric shock or fire.
Please install at a place adequately strong to support the weight of the air conditioner unit. If the
strength is low, the air conditioner might fall down and cause human injury or even death.
To ensure correct drainage of water, the drainage pipe shall be installed according to the installation
instructions. Also the heat insulation shall be provided to avoid condensing. Improper installation of the
pipe might result in water leakage and lead to possible wetting of the articles in the room.
Do not use or store flammable, explosive or poisonous substances beside the air conditioner.
In event of any fault (e.g. smell of burn), please immediately disconnect the mains switch of the air
conditioner unit.
Keep the air flowing to avoid oxygen deficiency in the room.
Never put your fingers or insert any object into exhaust port or intake grill.
Regularly check if the installation support is damaged after a long period of use.
Never make any modification. To repair or move the air conditioner, please contact the vendor or
professional installation technicians.
High voltage exists in outdoor unit, so that the electric box can only be removed or installed by
professional technicians.
CAUTIONS!
Before installation, please check if the power supply complies with the ratings on nameplate and check
its safety.
Before use, please check and confirm if the power cables, drainage pipes and pipelines are correctly
connected, so as to avoid water leakage, refrigerant loss, electric shock or fire accidents.
To ensure effective earthing of the air-conditioner unit and avoid electric shock, the main power must
be securely earthed. Do not connect the earth wires to gas pipe, water pipe, lightning rod or telephone
line.
Once the air conditioner is started, let it run for 5 minutes at least before you can stop it; otherwise, the
service life of the air conditioner will be affected.
Do not allow the child to operate the air conditioner unit.
Do not operate the air conditioner unit with wet hands.
To clean the air conditioner or replace the air filter, please disconnect the unit from main power supply
firstly.
To put the air conditioner long out of use, please disconnect the main power supply.
Do not expose the air conditioner unit directly to corrosive environment, e.g. water or moisture.
Do not step on the air conditioner unit or put any substances on it.

We recommend energizing and repairing the air conditioner unit once every year.
Selection of Installing Position and Precautions
● Selection of Installing Position
The installation of air conditioner unit must comply with the local safety regulations.
The installation quality will directly affect the normal use of your air conditioner, so that
the user shall not install by yourself. After purchase, please contact your vendor and
have your air conditioner installed and tested by professional installation technicians
according to the installation instructions.
Do not switch on the air conditioner until all the installation works have been completed.
● Selection of Installing Position for Indoor Unit
Avoid direct sunshine.
Ensure that the top hanging rod, ceiling and building structures have adequate strength to support the
weight of the indoor unit.
The drainage pipe is easy to connect out.
The intake and outlet air flow will not be obstructed.
The indoor connection pipe is easy to connect outdoors.
Do not install at a place with flammable or explosive substances or gases.
Do not install at a place with corrosive gas or subject to severe dust, salty fog, smoke or excessive
moisture.
● Selection of Installing Position for Outdoor Unit
The outdoor unit must be installed on firm and solid supporting plane.
The outdoor unit shall be as close as possible to the indoor unit, so as to minimize the length of
refrigerating pipe and number of bends.
Avoid placing the outdoor unit beneath the window or between the buildings, as this may cause the
normal working noise to invade into the room.
The intake and outlet air flow will not be obstructed.
Install at a place with good ventilation, so that the machine can breathe and exhaust enough air.
Do not install at a place with flammable or explosive substances or a place with severe dust, salty fog or
pollutant air.
No air duct shall be installed at the inlet and outlet of the outdoor unit. When the air
conditioner is under indoor heating mode, the condensate water will flow down from the
base of outdoor unit. When the temperature of outdoor air is below 0 (32 ), the
condensate water will be frozen. Take care that the installation of outdoor unit shall not
affect the radiating.
CAUTIONS!
Installing at the following places might result in trouble of the air conditioner. If unavoidable, please contact
Gree's franchise repair center.
1The place full of oil; Salt area beside the sea;
3The place with sulfurated gas (e.g. sulfurated hot spring);
4The place where high-frequency facilities exist (e.g. radio equipment, electric welder and medical
equipment);
5Special environment.

● Cable Layout
Carry out installation according to local cabling rules.
Rated supply voltage and special circuit for air conditioner must be used.
Do not pull the power cables with force.
All the electric installations must be carried out by specialist technicians in accordance with the local
laws, rules and these instructions.
The diameter of power cords must be large enough. The damaged power cords and connection wires
must be replaced with special cords.
☆The earthing shall be secure. The earthing wire shall be connected to the special earthing device on
the construction. The installation must be done by specialist technicians. The fixed circuit must be
provided with leakage protections witch and air switch that have enough capacity. The air switch shall
have both the magnetic tripping and thermal tripping functions to ensure protection against the short
circuit and overload.

● Earthing Requirements
The air conditioner belongs to Category I Electric Appliance. Therefore, be sure to take reliable earthing
measures.
The yellow-green wire inside the air conditioner is used for earthing. Do not use it for other purposes or
cut it. Do not fix with tapping screw. Otherwise, it will cause the risk of electric shock.
The earthing resistance shall comply with the Chinese standard GB17790.
Reliable earthing terminal must be provided on the user’s power supply. Never connect the earthing wire
to the following places:
Water pipe; Gas pipe; Sewage pipe;
Other places that the specialist technicians think unreliable.
● Noise
Install the air conditioner at a well-ventilating place. If not, the working capacity will be reduced or the
noise will be increased.
The air conditioner shall be firmly installed on a base that can adequately support its weight. Otherwise,
vibration and noise will be caused.
The outdoor unit shall be so installed that the hot air or noise will not affect the neighbors or environment
around.
There shall be no obstructions piled at the air outlet of the outdoor unit. Otherwise, the working capacity
will be reduced or the noise will be increased.
In the event that any abnormal sound occurs during use, please immediately contact the vendor.
● Accessories for Installation
For the accessories for installation of the indoor units and outdoor unit, please refer to the packing list
included in respective package.

Installation of Outdoor Unit
● Cautions on Installation of Outdoor Unit
To ensure good operation of the air conditioner, the selection of installing position must be in accordance
with the following principles:
The outdoor unit shall be so installed that the air discharged out of the outdoor unit will not flow back and
that enough space shall be maintained around the machine for repair.
The installing position shall be in good ventilation, so that the machine can breathe and exhaust enough
air. Ensure that there is no obstruction at the inlet and outlet of the machine. If any, please remove the
obstructions blocking the air inlet and outlet.
The installing position shall be strong enough to withstand the weight of outdoor unit and be able to
isolate the sound and absorb the vibration. Also ensure that the outlet air and noise from the air conditioner
will not affect the neighbors.
The outdoor unit must be lifted by using the designated lift hole. During lifting, take care to protect the air
conditioner and avoid knocking the metal parts, thus to prevent rusting in the future.
Avoid direct sunshine as it might be.
The installing position must be able to drain the rainwater and the water generated from defrosting.
The installing position must ensure that the machine will not be buried in the snow or affected by the
wastes or oil mist.
To meet the noise and vibration requirements, the outdoor unit shall be installed by using rubber
damping pad or spring damper.
The installing dimension shall comply with the installation requirements in these instructions. The outdoor
unit must be fixed at the installing position.
☆The installation shall be done by specialist technicians.
● Installation of Outdoor Unit
1. Overall Dimension of Outdoor Unit

2. When moving the outdoor unit, two ropes with enough length must be used to lift in four directions. To
prevent the machine from drifting out of the center, the included angle of the ropes must be smaller than
400 when the machine is being lifted and moved.
3. Fasten the machine onto the supporting legs and base with M12 screw combination.
4. The outdoor unit shall be installed on concrete foundation 10cm high.
5. For the space dimensions required for installation of the machine body, please see below.

Several kind of installation modes have been introduced the whole system is made up of the following
main parts: outdoor unit, Hydro-box,water tank.,indoor units Furthermore,system has an interface for the
floor heater and the solar . User can make it work according to skecth map of installation B C D and E
: Notice
1.After floor heating request has be sent to Hydro-box, if user open indoor unit for cooling or heating, system will ignore the
request of indoor unit ,and at the same time error code E7 will show on the wired controller of indoor unit.
2. In Skecth map of installation B and D, if user open the floor heater and hot water heater together, system will first go to
heat water tank until water temperature reach the setting temperature or reach over 50 degree.

● Electrical Connection
Note:
As needed, the Hydro-box shall be installed with an air switch (or fuse) for protection against
short circuit and abnormal overload. Usually, this air switch is closed.

Connection between Indoor and Outdoor Units
● Electrical Connection
Note:
One air switch (or fuse)shall be installed for each indoor unit according to the capacity of the air-
conditioner unit, and one mains air switch shall be installed for all indoor units. The air switch for
each indoor unit is used for protection against short circuiting and abnormal overloading, and it is
usually closed. The mains air switch is used for supplying or disconnecting the electric power to all
indoor units.
A circuit breaker to cut off the power supply of the entire system must be installed.
● Connection of power cables:
1. Insert the power cable through the rubber ring.
2. Connect the power cable to the terminal marked “L, N, PE”.
3. Fix the cable with cable clamp.
● Connection of distribution wires (communication):
1. Open the outdoor electric box.
2. Insert the distribution wires (communication) from the base through the rubber ring in electric box.
3. Insert the distribution wires (communication) into the 3-pin holder CN10 on the outdoor circuit board.
4. Use the strap to fix the distribution wires (communication) tightly.
5. Install the wire cover plate back to original position and tighten the screws.
6. Cover the panel.

● Size of Connection Pipe
1. The size of the pipe (main pipe) from the outdoor unit to the 1st Branching is same as the size of outdoor
pipe.

2. The size of the pipe (Branching pipe) between the Branches is selected according to the capacity of
downstream indoor unit to be connected (See Table 3). If exceeding the capacity of outdoor unit, the
capacity of outdoor unit will prevail.

3. The size of the pipe (indoor pipe) between Branching and indoor unit is same as the size of indoor pipe
(See Table 4) (If the distance from the first Branching to one indoor unit is over 30m, the gas pipe from
the 1st Branching to this indoor unit shall be increased by one level).

Connection of indoor and outdoor outlet pipes
See Table 5 for the torque required for tightening the nuts.
Align the flared end of copper pipe with the center of threaded
connector and use your hands to securely tighten the flared nuts.
☆Tighten the flared nuts with torque wrench, until you hear a
‘KATA” sound from the torque wrench.
(as shown on right).
☆The bend of pipe shall not be two small; otherwise the pipe
might be broken. Please use pipe bender to bend the pipe.
☆Use sponge to wrap the connection pipes and connectors
that are not thermally insulated, and tighten with plastic
tapes.

1. To avoid breaking the capillary or other pipes of the indoor unit and resulting in leakage, never use
strong force to pull the gas and liquid connector of the indoor unit when connecting the indoor unit and
pipes.
2. The connection pipes shall be supported by bracket, so that their weight will not be transferred to the
machine.

☆The Y-type Branching pipe is installed with additional tube. The purpose is to adjust the different pipe
diameters. If the pipe size selected on site is different from the size of Branching connector, use the
pipe cutter to cut from the middle of different connection pipes and remove the burrs. See below.

☆The Branching pipe on gas pipe side shall be thermally insulated by using the materials able to
withstand 120 or higher. Do not use the included foam on Branching pipe as the thermal insulation
material. To prevent water dripping from the liquid pipe, the foam insulation materials included on
Branching pipe shall be butt jointed to the thermal insulation materials used on site, and then the joint
between them shall be wrapped.

When it is needed to cut the Branching pipe, please cut from the middle of given connection pipe and
remove the burrs.

CAUTION:
● Each pipe for VRF air conditioner system shall be attached with a label to identify the system to which the
pipe belongs, and thus avoid wrong connection.
● A straight pipe 280mm long at least shall be guaranteed on the inlet side of Branching pipe.
● Installation of protection layer on connection pipe
1. To avoid condensing or leakage, the gas pipe and liquid pipe must be wrapped with thermal insulation
materials and adhesive tapes for isolation from the air.
2. The connector between indoor unit and outdoor unit shall be wrapped with thermal insulation materials,
and shall have no clearance to the wall surface, as shown below.

CAUTION: When the pipe is well protected, never bend the pipe to very small angle;
otherwise the pipe may be cracked or broken.
3. Wrap the pipe with tapes:
Use plastic tapes to bundle the pipes and cables together. To prevent the condensate water from
overflow out of the drainage pipe, the drainage pipe shall be separated from the connection pipe and
cables.
When wrapping the thermal insulation tape, each circle shall suppress half of the previous circle.
☆The wrapped harness shall be fixed on the wall with pipe clamp.
CAUTION:
Never wrap the protective tape too tight, as this will reduce the effect of thermal insulation. Make sure
that the condensate drainage pipe has been separated.
After completing the protection work and wrapping the pipes, use the sealing materials to block the holes
in the wall.
● Connection of indoor and outdoor communication wires
Open the electric box of indoor unit and outdoor unit, and insert the distribution wire (communication)
through cable-cross hole into the electric box. The indoor unit and outdoor unit must be connected
according to the circuit diagram attached on the machine (Refer to the electrical wiring of the indoor unit
and outdoor unit). For the power cable sizes, please select in reference to the power capacity and
installation environment of the machine. Check to ensure no error. After that, use the cable clamp to press
