1.2 Functionality Highlights
- Easily acc ss your m dia coll ction in your car, including shuffling songs, skipping b tw n tracks, and adjusting
th volum —all with only your factory car st r o h ad unit or multifunction st ring wh l controls.

2.1 Programming the car for GROM-MST3 PLUS
BMW non iDrive
- If original CD chang r fitt d and MP3 capability is availabl : no programming is r quir d.
- If original CD chang r fitt d and no MP3 capability is availabl , you will n d to r trofit “KMP3” option with s rvic

- If original CD chang r not fitt d or M-ASK us d: install GROM-MST3P and r trofit “CDC” option with s rvic

BMW with iDrive
- If original CD chang r fitt d: no programming is r quir d.
- If original CD chang r not fitt d: install an original BMW CD chang r and r trofit “CD chang r” option t mporarily

Mercedes and AUDI
G n rally no programming is r quir d but in som cas s ( .g. no d vic was conn ct d onto th optical ring) it is

Volvo

2.2 Understanding how the fiber-optics works
Fib r-Optic v hicl s work on a syst m utilizing a puls or puls s of light s nt around a ring of d vic s. Each d vic
sits on a point of th ring which starts and finish s at th sam plac . Each puls will hav a uniqu signal which
can b d liv r d to a sp cific part of th chain via a combination of light puls s.
It’s important wh n installing into th ring of d vic s that:
a) Th ring is not brok n and
b) Th ord r is r tain d aft r th installation.
T sting th syst m is quit simpl . If you r mov on of th dir ctional inputs you should s a pulsing light, if you
don’t s any light you hav ith r th wrong dir ctional ring, or th ring is brok n som wh r .

2.3 Tools needed

2.4 Electrical and Optical Installation
1. Turn off car ngin and r mov k y from ignition.
2. In ord r to install th GROM-MST3 adapt r, th xt rnal CD chang r will hav to b disconn ct d in BMW,
AUDI, M rc d s B nz and Volvo XC90 2002-2006. For Volvo S40/S60/V50 and for Volvo XC90 2007-2003 th
factory CD chang r/CD play r n ds to b l ft in th fib r-optic ring for th install. In all cas s you will not b abl to
us factory CD play r aft r GROM install.
If no CD chang r is pr s nt, th GROM-MST3 will n d to b wir d into th fib r-optic ring on th v hicl .
2.4.1 CD changer is present and activated (Installation into BMW, Audi, Mercedes Benz and
Volvo XC90 2002-2006 cars)

WARNING: In some instances the power wires on the standard CD changer connector in BMW are in the wrong location
in order to be used with the GROM. The below image (image A) shows the standard BMW connector with the PIN’s in
the correct location.

pin th m so th y will match imag A. First you will n d to r l as th pow r conn ctor block as it is shown on th
imag A. Push up th tab as shown on th imag A with a small scr wdriv r. Pl as r f r to th imag C for th
instructions on how to r mov and r position th PIN.

Th CD chang r conn ctor is usually locat d in th trunk or glov box of your car.

2.4.2 Installation into BMW, Mercedes and Audi when the CD changer is not present or has not
been activated.
In that sc nario you will n d to wir th GROM unit into th fib r-optic ring. To do that you will n d to r mov 1
(on ) fib r optic wir from your factory wiring. It is normally h ld in with a plastic conn ctor and small push tab.

CD changer is not present or has not been activated
If you are installing GROM kit into Volvo XC90 2007-2013, or S40/S60/V50 2004 and up, please refer to the
Scheme C on the next page for the installation and direction of the optical light reference.

2.4.3 Important notice for BMW owners.

chang r mod (typically a 30 minut job).

2.4.4 Important notice for Volvo owners.

Volvo d al r and apply "MOST S curity OFF" patch.
This patch will allow third party int gration d vic s to work prop rly with your factory st r o and can only b s t by
Volvo.

Chapter 3 – Testing the operation, simple usage guide
3.1 EXT1-EXT2 PORTS - Accessories Cables Connection

Note: You can conn ct GROM Blu tooth Dongl only to th EXT1, and GROM compatibl IPOD cabl only to th EXT2.

3.2 Mode Selection
GROM-MST3 can work in thr mod s: USB, EXT1 (AUX) or EXT2 (IPOD).
3.2.1 MODE Selection for BMW non iDrive stereos
1. Pr ss AUDIO button and choos CDC to nt r into GROM mod . It is usually USB by d fault, so if th USB flash driv

2. To switch b tw n USB, EXT2 (IPOD) or EXT1 (AUX)you will n d to do th following st ps.
1. Pr ss DISC 6 button and activat “D vic M nu”
2. Pr ss LIST button and nt r into “D vic M nu”
3. In th “D vic M nu” you will s “Sourc : USB”. Using th tuning knob on th l ft navigat to “Sourc ” and
pr ss Tuning knob button on th right. Th GROM will nt r into iPod mod .

3.2.5 MODE Selection for Volvo S40/S60/V50 and XC90 2007-2013 Single Disc Stereo

2. You will b using Tuning knob to switch b tw n 3 mod s (USB, EXT1, EXT2).
TRACK 20 = USB Mode. Turn right Tuning knob > 20 tracks to switch to iPod.
TRACK 40 = EXT2 or IPOD MODE (IPOD will app ar on th radio display). Turn right Tuning knob > 20 tracks to switch
to AUX.
TRACK 60 = EXT1 or AUX MODE (AUXILIARY will app ar on th display). Turn right Tuning knob > 20 tracks to switch
to back to USB.
3.2.6 Quick USB Stick Operation for Volvo S40/S60/V50 and XC90 2007-2013 Single Disc Stereo
1. Pr ss < or > button to chang tracks
2. Turn right Tuning knob <10 to chang tracks.

CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT BEFORE USING THE GROM PRODUCTS. BY USING THE GROM PRODUCTS AND
SOFTWARE THIS INSTALLED ON THE GROM PRODUCTS, YOU ARE AGREEING TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF
AGREEMENT. SINCE GROM DOES NOT INSTALL THIS EQUIPMENT, GROM DISCLAIMS ANY LIABILITY FOR IMPROPER
INSTALLATION OF THE GROM AUDIO OR THE ‘AFTER-MARKET’ EQUIPMENT (INPUTS). FURTHER, THE ‘END USER’
ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE PRODUCT AND ITS SOFTWARE ARE NOT INHERENTLY DANGEROUS AND DO NOT PROVIDE
ANY INHERENT RISKS AND THEREFORE POTENTIAL DAMAGES TO THE END-USER, OTHER THAN ‘Fitn ss for its Purpos ’. As

5.3 GRANT O LICENSE
GROM grants to you a non-transf rabl , non- xclusiv lic ns to us th PRODUCT and its softwar install d on th GROM product
(th “PRODUCTS”) and th r lat d docum ntation sol ly for your own p rsonal us or for int rnal us by your busin ss, only on such
GROM PRODUCTS. You shall not copy, r v rs ngin r, translat , port, modify or mak d rivativ works of th Softwar contain d in
th PRODUCT. You shall not loan, r nt, disclos , publish, s ll, assign, l as , sublic ns , mark t or oth rwis transf r th Softwar in
th PRODUCT or us it in any mann r not xpr ssly authoriz d by this agr m nt. You shall not d riv or att mpt to d riv th sourc
cod or structur of all or any portion of th Softwar in th PRODUCT by r v rs ngin ring, disass mbly, r compilation, or any oth r
m ans. You shall not us th Softwar in th PRODUCT to op rat a s rvic bur au or for any oth r us involving th proc ssing of
data for oth r p rsons or ntiti s. GROM and its lic nsor(s) shall r tain all copyright, trad s cr t, pat nt and oth r propri tary
own rship rights to th Softwar in th PRODUCT. You may transf r all of your lic ns rights in th Softwar or th PRODUCT, th
r lat d docum ntation and a copy of this Lic ns Agr m nt And Warranty to anoth r party, provid d that th party r ads and agr s to
acc pt th t rms and conditions of this Lic ns Agr m nt And Warranty.
5.4 OPERATIONAL WARNING AND SA ETY INSTRUCTIONS
(A) EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE CONTAINED HEREIN, the PRODUCTS and related documentation are provided to you, “AS IS”.
IN NO EVENT SHALL GROM BE LIABLE OR ANY DAMAGES, CLAIM OR LOSS INCURRED BY YOU (INCLUDING WITHOUT
LIMITATION, COMPENSATORY, INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, LOST
PRO ITS, LOST SALES OR BUSINESS EXPENDITURES, INVESTMENTS, OR COMMITMENTS IN CONNECTION WITH ANY
BUSINESS, LOSS O ANY GOODWILL, OR DAMAGES. THE TERM ‘INCIDENTAL DAMAGES’ RE ERS TO THE EXPENSES O
TRANSPORTING THE PRODUCTS TO THE GROM AUDIO SERVICE CENTER, LOSS O THE END-USERS [ORIGINAL
PURCHASER’S] TIME, LOSS O THE USE O THE PRODUCT, BUS ARES, CAR RENTALS OR OTHER COSTS RELATED TO

THE CARE AND CUSTODY O THE PRODUCT. THE TERM ‘CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES’ RE ERS TO THE COST O
REPAIRING OR REPLACING OTHER PROPERTY, WHICH IS DAMAGED WHEN THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY,
RESULTING ROM THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE PRODUCTS, INCLUDING ANY DAMAGES INCURRED DUE TO THE
NEGLIGENT OPERATION O A MOTOR VEHICLE, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE USE O SAID PRODUCTS. THE END-USER
ACKNOWLEDGES ITS RESPONSIBILITY OR THE USE O THE PRODUCT. THE ADDITION O GROM PRODUCTS AND ANY
A TER-MARKET EQUIPMENT MAY ENHANCE THE VALUE O A VEHICLE OR CAUSE A THIRD-PARTY TO ILLEGALLY
ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE PRODUCTS AND A TER-MARKET EQUIPMENT. GROM DISCLAIMS ANY LIABILITY RELATED TO
SUCH THE T AND POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY. IT IS THE END-USERS RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT ITS OWN
PROPERTY. THE END-USER URTHER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE OPERATION O A MOTOR VEHICLE IS AN INHERENTLY
DANGEROUS ACTIVITY, AND BY ITS USE O GROM’S PRODUCTS, ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE PRODUCTS ARE
REMOTELY RELATED TO SAID MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATION, AND THUS ANY DAMAGES CAUSED TO THE DRIVER O THE
VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE ITSEL OR ANY THIRD-
PARTY AND ITS PROPERTY IS NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY O GROM, ITS AGENTS OR ITS PRINCIPALS AND IS THE SOLE
RESPONSIBILITY O THE DRIVER O SAID VEHICLE.
YOU, THE END-USER, OR ANY OTHER DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE, IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFE OPERATION OF
THE VEHICLE AND THE SAFETY OF BOTH YOU AND THE PASSENGERS. FOR SAFETY PURPOSES, THE PRODUCT SHOULD
NOT BE USED FOR THE DRIVER’S ENTERTAINMENT, WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. SUCH USE COULD BE A
DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER, WHICH COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT LEADING TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. IF YOU, THE
END-USER ALLOW ANOTHER PERSON TO USE THE VEHICLE, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO THOROUGHLY BRIEF THAT
OTHER USER, ON THE SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR OPERATING THE VEHICLE AND THE PRODUCTS INSTALLED THEREIN.
(B) SAID DISCLAIMERS SHALL APPLY TO THE USE OF SAID PRODUCTS, EVEN IF GROM HAS BEEN INFORMED OF, KNEW OF,
OR SHOULD HAVE KNOWN OF THE LIKELIHOOD OF SUCH DAMAGES. THIS LIMITATION APPLIES TO ALL CAUSES OF ACTION
IN THE AGGREGATE, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION: BREACH OF CONTRACT, BREACH OF WARRANTY, NEGLIGENCE,
STRICT LIABILITY, MISREPRESENTATION AND OTHER TORTS. IF GROM’S WARRANTY DISCLAIMER OR LIMITATION OF
LIABILITY SET FORTH IN THIS AGREEMENT SHALL, OR FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER, BE HELD UNENFORCEABLE OR
INAPPLICABLE, YOU AND ANY OTHER END USER AGREE THAT GROM’S LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED (70%) OF THE PRICE
PAID FOR THE ENCLOSED GROM PRODUCT.

auto accid nt or oth r traffic infraction.

A. INDEMNIFICATION OF GROM AUDIO, ITS AGENTS AND EMPLOYEES. By Purchasing, Installing and Using th Products,
You, th End- Us r, agr to ind mnify, d f nd and hold harml ss, GROM AUDIO, and it s Affiliat s, Dir ctors, Offic rs, Ag nts
and Employ s from any Liabiliti s, Damag , Loss, Claim and Exp ns (including r asonabl Attorn y’s F s) arising out of th
installation and us of th Products.
B. GOVERNING LAW. THIS AGREEMENT and all Purchas s h r und r shall b gov rn d by, and constru d und r th laws of
th Stat of California, without r gard to conflicts of law rul s.

C. FORCE MAJEURE. GROM shall not b liabl for any d lay or failur in p rformanc caus d by or r sulting from acts of God,
fir , flood, storms, arthquak s, tornados, oth r acts of natur , any accid nts, riots, wars, gov rnm nt int rv ntion, mbargo s,
strik s, labor difficulti s, quipm nt failur s, or any oth r caus s b yond th control of GROM AUDIO. Quantiti s ar subj ct to
