INTRODUCTION
Your Choice of a Gulf Coast spa indicates that you are devoted to excellence. The
management and staff appreciate your patronage and takes pride in the tradition of quality spas that
our company represents.
In order to get the most out of your spa, we strongly suggest that you take time to read through
this manual before you hook up and operate your spa. This will acquaint you with the operating
features; hook up procedures, and maintenance, and safety procedures, ensuring an enjoyable
experience right from the start. Gulf Coast Manufactures has tried to anticipate all of your needs and
desires: however, if you need any additional information, feel free to call your authorized Dealer.
WARNING! This manual was written to ensure the proper use and installation of any Cool
Nights Series spa. Any modifications to the procedures outlined in this manual may result in your
warranty being void. Please take the time to read this manual to avoid any unnecessary problems
with your brand new spa and equipment.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When installing your spa and using this equipment, always follow basic safety precautions including
the following:
READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS!
DANGER: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY, do not permit children to use this product unless
they are closely supervised at all times.
Your Gulf Coast spa is meant to be enjoyable, healthful and relaxing. Some basic safety rules do
apply when using the spa. Here is a small list of things to remember:
1) Always check the temperature of the spa before entering. Excessively high temperatures can be
hazardous to your health.
2) Persons suffering from heart disease, diabetes, high or low blood pressure and pregnant women
should consult a doctor before using the spa.
3) Persons under the influence of medication, drugs or alcohol should not be allowed into the spa.
4) Do not allow children to use the spa without supervision of an adult.
5) Do not use the spa alone.
6) The GFCI breaker should be tested monthly to ensure it operates properly.
7) Any electrical devices near the spa must be GFCI protected and out of reach from inside the spa.
8) Keep all breakables away from the spa area.
9) Lock the hard cover on any outdoor spas when not in use. Position spa to provide drainage of the
compartment for electrical components. For floor recessed spas, install to permit access for servicing
from above and below floor. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!

WARNING SIGN MUST BE POSTED
The (red) WARNING sign above is packed with your new Gulf Coast spa. This sign must be posted in
a prominent place in close proximity to the spa installation site immediately upon completion of spa
installation.
WARNING SIGN – It is extremely important that this sign be permanently placed in clear view of any
persons using the spa. Occasional spa users may not be aware of some of the dangers hot water
poses to pregnant women, small children, and people under the influence of alcohol. If you did not
receive a warning sign or your sign has become damaged, please contact your spa dealer or
manufacturer.
DANGER – A wire connector is provided on this unit to connect a minimum No. 8 AWG (8.4mm2)
solid copper conductor between unit and any metal equipment, metal enclosures of electrical
equipment, metal water pipe, or conduit, if that item is located within 5 feet (1.5m) of the unit.
DANGER – RISK OF ACCIDENTAL DROWNING: Extreme Caution must be exercised at all times,
to prevent unauthorized access by children. To avoid accidents, ensure that children cannot use spa
unless they are supervised at all times. Cover spa and use safety locks to prevent accidents.
DANGER – TO REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY: The suction fittings in the spa are sized to match
the specific water flow created by the pump/pumps. Should the need arise to replace the suction
fittings or the pump/pumps, be sure that the flow rates are compatible (100 GPM - Maximum Flow
rate for current used suctions).

DANGER – RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK: Install at least 6 feet (91.5m) from all metal surfaces.
As an alternative, a spa may be installed within 5 feet (1.5m) of metal surfaces if each metal surface

is permanently connected by a minimum No. 8 AWG (8.4mm2) solid copper conductor to the wire
connector on the terminal box that is proved for this purpose. Do not permit any electrical appliance,
such as a light, telephone, radio or television within 5 feet (1.5m) of the spa, unless factory installed.
Position spa to provide proper drainage of the compartment for electrical components. For floor
recessed spas, install to permit access for servicing from above or below floor. Consideration should
be taken for water splash out. Water can ruin wood floors and some finishes. DO NOT use a wall
switch, ground fault circuit interrupter, circuit breaker, fuse, or plugging and unplugging the spa as a
means of turning on or off your spa for normal everyday use. DO NOT block access door. Set the spa
on a firm level (flat) surface. DO NOT set spa on blocks as structural damage may occur to spa.
WARNING – To reduce the risk of injury. The water in a spa should never exceed 40 degrees C (104
degrees F). Water temperatures between 38 degrees C (100 degrees F) and 40 degrees C (104
degrees F) are considered safe for a healthy adult. Lower water temperatures are recommended for
young children and when spa use exceeds 10 minutes. WATER TEMPERATURE IN EXCESS OF 38
DEGREES C MAY BE INJURIOUS TO YOUR HEALTH. AVERTISSEMENT: DES TEMPERATURES

Since excessive water temperatures have a high potential for causing fetal damage during early
pregnancy, pregnant or potentially pregnant women should limit water temperatures to 38 degrees C
(100 degrees F). Before entering a spa, the user should measure the water temperature with an
accurate thermometer. The tolerances of water temperature-regulating devices vary. The use of
alcohol, drugs, or medication before or during spa use may lead to unconsciousness with the
possibility of drowning. Persons suffering from obesity, medical history or heart disease, low/high
blood pressure, circulatory system problems, or diabetes, should consult a physician before using a
spa. Persons using medication should consult a physician before using a spa because some
medications induce drowsiness while others may affect heart rate, blood pressure and circulation.
HYPERTHERMIA – Prolonged immersion in hot water may induce hypothermia. A description of the
causes, symptoms, and effects of hyperthermia are as follows:
Hyperthermia occurs when the internal temperature of the body reaches a level several degrees
above the normal body temperature of 98.6 degrees F (37 degrees C). The symptoms of
hyperthermia include drowsiness, lethargy, and an increase in the internal temperature of the body.
The effects of hyperthermia include.
Unawareness of impending hazard; Failure to perceive heat; Failure to recognize the need to exit
spa; Physical inability to exit spa; Fetal damage in pregnant women; and Unconsciousness and
danger of drowning.
INSTALLATION
Proper planning is an important consideration when installing your new spa. Site selection is a critical
step and should be given some serious thought. Planning ahead, before the delivery of your spa, will
make the process of installation easier. The following information is provided to assist you in site
preparations.
1) Check out the local building codes with respects to gates, fences etc.
2) Be sure the spa will have proper access to water, drainage and electricity.

3) Check with your dealer on how to support the weight. In most cases, the best answer is a 4-inch
thick cement pad. However, there are many ways to support your spa. Please consult your spa sales
representative before constructing a base.
4) Be sure your spa will fit into the space you have chosen, and insure there is proper access into the
area of the spa for repairs if necessary.
5) Ventilation may be needed because of the humidity from the spa. In most cases, a Spa Hard Cover
is sufficient.
5) Check the load carry capabilities of the floor. Most homes meet the requirement of 125 pounds per
square foot.
6) Protect pump and all equipment from the weather. In many cases the equipment already is
installed and needs no further protection.
IMPORTANT! When building a skirt or sinking a spa into a deck or ground, easy access must be
provided beneath the spa. This will ensure proper serviceability to the plumbing and equipment.
Please allow 36 inches. This is a minimum figure only! Consider your design carefully. The more
access the better. Make the access door in a logical place (i.e. near controls and equipment). Consult
your authorized dealer for more details.

Parts containing live parts supplied with safety extra low voltage not exceeding 12v must be
inaccessible to a person in the bath. Earthed appliances must be permanently connected to fixed
wiring. Parts incorporating electrical components, except remote control devices, must be located or
fixed so that they cannot fall into the bath. Appliances should be supplied through a residual current
device (RCD) having a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30ma.
Means for disconnection must be incorporated in the fixed wiring in accordance with the wiring rules.

STARTUP PROCEDURES
IMPORTANT! Read these step-by-step startup procedures before starting your spa. Failure to follow
any of these steps listed may result in damage to the equipment and may void the warranty.
NOTE: Running the spa pump dry (without water running through it) could cause IMMEDIATE
damage! Be sure the following conditions exist:
The spa has been installed properly in accordance with the instructions in this manual.
All valves must be open from the spa to the spa pack. These are usually located to the left of the
pump and to the right of the equipment head. Be sure the Slide Valve T-Handles are pulled out
completely.

Check and tighten unions at each end of the heater tube. CAUTION! DO NOT use a wrench. These
are hand-tightened unions and over tightening may cause damage to unions and gaskets, which may
not be covered under warranty.
Clean out the spa and remove any foreign material. Gel Gloss Acrylic Polish or any type of soft paste
wax is recommended for polishing the surface of your spa. Fill spa with water (hard water is
recommended) to approximately 4 inches from the top of the spa. Simply put a garden hose directly
into the spa. CAUTION! Be sure drain bib is closed before the water is turned on. DO NOT turn
pump on until the spa is filled to the required level. Running the pump dry may cause
IMMEDIATE damage, which will not be covered under warranty!

Once the spa is filled to the proper level, check to make sure the valves are open at the pump. Start
the pump and watch for some water to come out of the jets.
If the water is running smoothly through the lines, open the air valve (AVC) to the jets and you should
see a great increase in jet pressure.
CAUTION! The water from your hot water tank should not be used to fill the spa.

How it Works

There is no maintenance required for your spa shell, simply keep it clean.
When you are ready to drain the water, attach a garden hose to the drain bib and open the valve.

SARASOTA INSTRUCTIONS
The Sarasota is designed to seat two adults. The 15 hydrotherapy jets can be regulated to provide a
relaxing massage to sooth away stress and the air control valve can be turned to adjust the strength
of the water massage. The Sarasota holds approximately 222 gallons of water and offers an
automatic, programmable heating (94° to 104°) and filtration system.
The guidelines below explain how to properly use the Sarasota. Follow these guidelines to maintain
the spa for your long-term vacation at home.
Plugging in the Sarasota

Make sure the cut-off valves to the pump
are open and fill the spa with water. Plug in the
power cord and turn the spa on. Note: The first
time the power cord is plugged in, the spa will
turn on automatically.
Plug the power cord directly into a dedicated,
grounded circuit capable of carrying 20 or more
amps. No other appliances should be on the
same circuit. Immediately replace the power
cord is it becomes damaged.
The power cord is equipped with a Ground
Fault Circuit Interrupter located at the end of
the power cord. You always should test the
GFCI before using the Sarasota.
First, press the pump button on the console to
turn on the Sarasota. Second, press the GFCI
“test” button. The Sarasota should turn off.
Third, press the GFCI “reset” button. The
Sarasota should resume normal operation. If
the Sarasota continues to run after the “test”
button is pressed, the GFCI is damaged. Do
not use the Sarasota until a qualified electrician
repairs the GFCI.
Starting the Sarasota
Once you have tested the GFCI, you should verify the water flow from the pumping unit. Set the air
control on the console to the lowest setting (see console diagram). The pumping unit will heat the
water as it pumps. Place the cover tightly on the Sarasota. The water will heat at approximately 3.4°
per hour with the cover on. If you are using the spa indoors and the room temperature is maintained
at 70°F, it will take approximately eight hours for the water to reach the set temperature. See the
console diagram for help setting the temperature.

Using the Sarasota Console
Pump Key: Press this key once to turn the pump on low speed. Press this key a second time to turn
the pump on high speed. Press this key a third time to turn off the pump. Unless manually turned off,
the pump automatically will shut off after 20 minutes. The indicator will illuminate while the pump is
running in high speed and flash while running in low speed. If the filter indicator is lit, a filtration cycle
has begun and you will not be able to turn off the pump.
Air Control: This easy-to-use, oversized knob determines the amount of air that is released in the
spa jet system when the pump is on. Turn the control to the left and more air will flow through the jets
providing maximum hydrotherapy. Turn the control to the right for less air in the jets and softer
hydrotherapy.
Light Key: This button turns the light on and off. When the light is on, the indicator above the button
will be lit. The light automatically will turn off after two hours.
Temperature Keys: Press the up arrow key to increase the temperature. Press the down arrow key
to decrease the temperature. The temperature can be adjusted in 1º increments between 41º F and
104º F (5º C and 40º C). The new setting will remain on the screen for five seconds as a confirmation.
During this time, the Temperature Set Indicator will be lit, informing you that this is the desired
temperature not the actual temperature. After five seconds, the display will return to the current
temperature reading. When the temperature drops to 1º F below the set temperature, the system will
call for heat. The Heat On Indicator will be lit while the heater is on and flash when there is a call for
heat and the heater has not yet been activated.
Freeze Protection: If the water temperature drops below 49º F, the pump and heater will turn on for
two minutes or until the temperature reaches 50º F. FrE will be displayed throughout this cycle. All
functions (except the alarms) will be disabled while the freeze protection is active.
High Temperature Protection: If the water temperature exceeds 115º F at the Hi-Limit sensor, the
system will display an HL message and the heater will turn off. If the water temperature exceeds 122º
F at the Hi-Limit sensor, all outputs will be shut off. After the water has cooled, press any key on the
console to resume normal operation. If the water temperature does not seem to be elevated, poor

water flow or electrical line interference (thunder storms, voltage surges, etc.) may have caused the
HL message. Simply reset and monitor the system.
Programming Filter Cycle: You may choose to filter the spa one, two or three times a day as
required to keep the water clean and sanitary. Press and release the pump key and up arrow key at
the same time. The current setting will be displayed. Press the up or down arrow keys to increase or
decrease the frequency of the filtration cycles. To save the new setting, press and release the pump
key and up arrow key at the same time. The cycles will repeat every eight, 12 or 24 hours. Gulf Coast
recommends setting the filtration cycles opposite sleeping hours.
Programming Filter Cycle Duration: You may choose to filter the spa 60, 120 or 180 minutes per
cycle as required to keep the water clean and sanitary. Press and release the light key and up arrow
key at the same time. The current setting will be displayed. Press the up or down arrow keys to
increase or decrease the duration of the filtration cycles. To save the new setting, press and release
the light key and up arrow key at the same time.
Note: If no key is pressed within five seconds during programming, the system will revert back
to the monitoring mode. If the pump and/or light were turned on during programming, turn them off.
The system will revert back to display the water temperature within five seconds.
Default System Operation: When power is applied
or there is a temporary loss of power, the system will
initiate its default programming. The filter cycle will
begin 24 hours after the system has been powered
up. The filtration cycle will be active for one hour and
will repeat every 24 hours. The temperature will be
maintained at 95º F. Freeze protection will be active.

Three flashing dots mean the system has detected a problem with the
pressure switch or the high limit probe. Check and open water valves.
Clean filter or add water if necessary. Shut power off and power up the
spa again to reset the system.
Flashing water temperature on the display means the water
temperature has reached 112º F. Remove spa cover and allow water
to cool down. The system should reset itself when the water cools
down to 109º F.

Automatic water heater start:
When water temperature is 1°F (0.5°
C) lower than the Set Point, the heater
will automatically turn on until water
temperature reaches Set Point plus 1°
F (0.5°C).

PROGRAMMING FILTER CYCLES
The system automatically performs two cycles per day, at 12-hour intervals. During a filter cycle:
- Pump 2 and Blower run at high speed for one minute;
- Pump 1 runs at low speed for a programmed number of hours;
- Ozonator is turned on.
To set the filter cycle duration:
Press and hold Light key
for 5 sec. The display will
show xx, with “xx”
representing the number of
hours Pump 1 will be
running at low speed.
Use Up or Down arrow key
to change setting.
00 = no filtration
12 = continuous filtration.
When the desired setting is
displayed, press Light key
again to confirm.
The “Filter Cycle” indicator
lights up when a filter cycle
is on.
An irregularly flashing “Filter Cycle” indicator means that the system has stopped filtering after 3 hours
because water temp, exceeds Set Point by more than 2°F (1°C). If temperature cools down before
the scheduled end of the cycle, filtering will resume for the remainder of the programmed cycle.
Note: After a power failure, the filter cycle duration will return to its default value (6 hours). In this
case, the first filter cycle will start 12 hours after power has been restored. The filter cycle will be
suspended if the user enters the spa and activates a pump or blower manually. This is to prevent
unnecessary operation of the ozonator. The cycle will be suspended for 40 minutes beyond the last
manual activation of any accessory. The filter indicator will flash on the display while the filter cycle is
suspended.

Are the jets removable? Interchangeable? Replaceable?
Most jets are made removable for easy cleaning and customized hydrotherapy. We recommend you
remove them every 3 months, clean with a citrus-based product, rinse thoroughly and replace.
How do I adjust my jet?
Simply turn the jets counterclockwise to open and clockwise to close. Be careful not to overturn the
jets, as damage can occur.
CAUTION: DO NOT TURN OFF TOO MANY JETS AT THE SAME TIME. THIS WILL
CREATE BACKFLOW AND POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO YOUR SPA!
How do I maintain my cabinet?
California Redwood is virtually maintenance free. A thin coat of linseed or cotton oil treatment applied
twice a year will help maintain the cabinet’s luster.
What is the insulation made of?
Gulf Coast uses a five-step Thermazoneprocess to fully insulate all of its hot tubs. First, the bottom
of each tub is blanketed with a thick layer of solid-cell, high-density insulating foam. Second, an outer
layer of insulation is added. Third, an inner layer of insulation is wrapped around the entire cabinet.
Fourth, a bottom layer of insulation is added on the floor. Fifth, a 5-inch thick tapered cover is
included.
How do I use aromatherapy?
Remove scented bead cartridge from plastic cover. Twist off aromatherapy injector valve cap on top
of spa (refer to No. 20 on your spa schematic sheet). Insert scented bead cartridge. Replace cap.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

check the following troubleshooting guide for a solution. If the problem cannot be solved in this

PROBLEM SOLUTION

CONTROL
CAUSE: Power to spa has been
disrupted.
Reset desired temperature and filtration cycle,

MAINTENANCE and CARE
IMPORTANT! The warranty on your spa and equipment is dependent on proper use of the
AquaClara Water Management System™. A special section of this manual will cover the AquaClara
Water Management System. In addition, the following maintenance procedures must be followed
periodically.
FILTER – The filter in your spa should be cleaned every week. This will ensure that the water is being
filtered properly, and there is no restriction in the filter due to dirt and grease.
IMPORTANT! Cleaning the filter can be done easily using pressure from a hose to remove debris
from the paper element. It is recommended to have a second filter, which can be swapped between
cleanings. This will enable you to quickly exchange the dirty filter with the clean one and immediately
start your spa again.
WATER – Depending on usage, the water in your spa should be changed every 1-3 months. Upon
each change of water it is good practice to wipe down the spa. This will open the pores of the acrylic
and remove dirt and scum while putting a protective coating on the acrylic keeping dirt and scum from
permanently staining the spa acrylic.
To Drain the Water: 1. Remove cap from drain bib. 2. Turn knob counterclockwise (open) until
it stops. 3. Pull knob firmly for full flow. 4. Drain. 5. Push knob back in place. 6. Turn knob clockwise
(closed) until it stops. 7. Replace cap on drain bib.
SPA CONTROL PACK – The spa support pack requires very little maintenance over its life span.
When changing the filter, simply inspect the spa pack’s self-monitoring lights. Wipe off dust from the
spa pack; this can increase its life by allowing better ventilation.
CABINET SKIRTING – Maintenance on your skirt is minimal. It is recommended to treat the skirt
periodically with a water - resistant stain or a good grade linseed oil.
SPA COVER – The 5-inch thick tapered cover on your spa is made from a weatherproof marine vinyl.
Your cover will last much longer if you heed the following suggestions:
1) Don’t drag the cover on the ground; wearing of the vinyl could easily develop into a tear.
2) The insulating foam in your cover is not designed to hold the weight of a person or an animal.
IMPORTANT! Cracked foam in the cover is not covered under warranty!
3) Occasionally wipe the cover, inside and out with soap and water, or vinyl cleaner. This will help
make the finish last longer and look better.
4) Dura Shine applied to the cover & stitching once yearly will keep your cover looking better longer.
5) Do not lift the cover by the safety straps, they are made to secure the tub to the cabinet and may
tear.

SHUTDOWN PROCEDURES
Your spa must be emptied approximately every 1-3 months to ensure the spa water is clean and safe.
Follow these step-by-step procedures whenever you need to empty your spa:
The spa must be turned off. Simply turn off the heater switch or turn down the thermostat to the
lowest setting. Turn off the pump.
Connect a hose to the garden hose bib on the spa and open the garden hose bib valve.
Drain the spa until the waterline is just above the bottom suction of your spa in the foot well.
CAUTION! DO NOT let the pump run dry. IMMEDIATE DAMAGE may result which could void the
warranty.
Bail out the remaining water (using a Wet Dry Vacuum).
LONG-TERM SHUTDOWN: If you wish to shut down your spa for an extended period of time, certain
requirements must be met. A long-term shutdown may be due to an extended vacation or a
mechanical failure. Due to possible cold weather, a number of special accessories may be
neccessary to facilitate a long-term shutdown. These include:
Sump Pump
Wet Dry Vacuum
Small electric heater (MUST be used in cold weather)
RV recreational antifreeze (MUST be used in cold weather)
If in winter, your spa pack fails and service is not immediately available to you, follow the above
shutdown procedures in addition to the following:
Drain the spa until absolutely no water remains. Use Wet Dry Vacuum if necessary to either blow all
lines clear or to suck all lines clear.
Place a small electric heater under the skirting of the spa.
Unhook the suction and return lines by loosening both unions on the heater tube and drain lines as
much as possible. Remove filter from canister.
If possible, remove the spa control pack from the spa (see page 12) and bring inside for protection
from freezing. If the spa is to be out of service for a long time, it may be necessary to squirt RV
antifreeze into each jet to prevent any freezing.
Vacuum out Jets, Pump, Heater, and Filter Canister with a Wet Dry Vacuum.
WARNING! If these steps are not taken during cold weather when the spa is shut down, serious
damage to the lines and spa may result! Freezing of the spa and/or equipment is not covered under
