Spec Filter accuracy testing—DR 5000 and DR 2800

Precautionary Labels
Read all labels and tags attached to the instrument. Personal injury or damage to the
instrument could occur if not observed. A symbol, if noted on the instrument, will be included
with a danger or caution statement in the manual.
Introduction
The Spec Filter test set is designed for periodic monitoring of spectrophotometers. This
instruction sheet includes a template for recording test results. See the Test record template
on page 4.
Transfer the nominal values given in the quality control certificate HDQ178 to the test record.
Make an appropriate number of copies. When results exceed allowable tolerances, contact a
Hach representative.
Electrical equipment marked with this symbol may not be disposed of in European public disposal systems after 12
August of 2005. In conformity with European local and national regulations (EU Directive 2002/96/EC), European
electrical equipment users must now return old or end-of life equipment to the Producer for disposal at no charge to
the user.
Note: For return for recycling, please contact the equipment producer or supplier for instructions on how to return
end-of-life equipment, producer-supplied electrical accessories, and all auxiliary items for proper disposal.

Test Procedures
Stray light test
1. Install the 10-mm square cell holder (Adapter A with the DR 2800). Turn on
the instrument.
2. Press SINGLE WAVELENGTH, then OPTIONS /λ.
3. Enter test 340 and press OK.
4. Press ZERO.
5. Insert the KV450/3 filter into the 10-mm square cell holder and close the lid.
Press READ.
6. Enter the measured value into the test record under “Actual value” for the KV450/3
filter. Open the lid and remove the filter.
Photometric accuracy
1. Install the 10-mm square cell holder (Adapter A with the DR 2800). Turn on
the instrument.
2. Press OPTIONS / λ, enter 546, then press OK.
3. Press ZERO.
4. Insert NG9/1 filter into the square cell holder then close the lid. Press READ.
5. Enter the measured value into the test record in the “Actual value” column for the
NG9/1 filter. Open the lid and remove the filter.
6. Insert the NG5/2 filter into the 10-mm square cell holder then close the lid.
Press READ.
7. Enter the measured value into the test record in the "Actual value" column for the
NG5/2 filter. Open the lid and remove the filter.
8. Insert the NG11/2 filter into the 10-mm square cell holder then close the lid.
Press READ.
9. Enter the measured value into the test record in the "Actual value" column for the
NG11/2 filter. Open the lid and remove the filter.
10. Press EXIT or select Main Menu.
Wavelength accuracy—DR 5000
1. Install the 10-mm square cell holder. Turn on the instrument.
2. Press SINGLE WAVELENGTH, then OPTIONS / λ. Enter 358–362, step 0.1 nm, then
press OK.
3. Press ZERO.
4. Insert the Ho filter into the 10-mm square cell holder and close the lid. Press READ.

5. Enter the maximum wavelength absorbance into the test record in the "Actual
value" column for the Ho filter. Open the lid and remove the filter.
6. Select OPTIONS / λ and enter 806–809, step 0.1 nm, then press OK.
7. Press ZERO.
8. Insert the BG20/2 filter into the 10-mm square cell holder and close the lid.
Press READ.
9. Enter the maximum wavelength absorbance into the test record in the "Actual
value" column for the BG20/2 filter. Open the lid and remove the filter.
Wavelength accuracy—DR 2800
1. Install the 10-mm square cell holder (Adapter A). Turn on the instrument.
2. Select SYSTEM CHECKS>OPTICAL CHECKS>WAVELENGTH CHECK.
3. Insert the BG20/2 filter into the 10-mm square cell holder and close the lid.
Press START.
4. Enter the maximum wavelength absorbance into the test record in the “Actual
value” column for the BG20/2 filter. Open the lid and remove the filter.
5. Press CANCEL.
