The Ripper Digital Phonostage

Description
The Ripper is a superb analog phonostage mated to a USB analog-to-digital
converter. It was designed to make recording LPs to computer disk as simple
and straightforward as possible, while maintaining a very high level of sound
quality. The phono section uses passive equalization, polypropylene capacitors,
and custom designed high performance regulators. For convenience, a
headphone amplifier is built-in for monitoring. The Ripper also includes a digital-
to-analog converter for playback.

Operation
The Ripper has no power switch (only 2 watts) and turns on immediately upon
plugging in. The front panel LED should light up.
Connect the ground lead from your turntable to the ground lug between the RCA
jacks on the rear panel. Connect the phono leads to the input jacks. The output
jacks connect to your audio system or linestage. Set the front panel select switch
to analog. In this minimal configuration, The Ripper makes a great standalone
phonostage.
For recording, connect the USB cable to your PC. Visit the software installation
and configuration page at:
www.hagtech.com/setup.html
For digital playback, set the select switch to digital. When the USB is active, the
LED on front panel lights up.
Recording
To record an LP, run the recording program (audacity) on the PC. Start playing
the LP, and adjust the gain control for best recording level. Reset the recording,
start the LP over and rip a track. For playback, the select switch is switched to
digital mode.

Troubleshooting
Problem Solution
Power LED off. Unit not plugged in?
USB LED off. No bus power available from USB port? PC not
configured for USB audio?
No sound. Check select switch. Try headphone output.
Audio stops or “tics” are
present.
Too many devices on the USB bus?
DAC does not accept
signal.
Check compatibility. HagUsb plays 32k, 44.1k,
and 48k sample rates. Computer software can be
configured to resample to other data rates.
