HALCYON FLARE™ AND FOCUS™ COMPONENTS
About This Manual
This manual is designed to familiarize you with some of the
unique features of the Halcyon Flare™and Focus™ lights.
If you purchased your light with a NiMH baery, please
see the Halcyon Explorer/EOS/Apollo owner’s manual for
informaon about this baery and cannister.
OVERVIEW
Thank you for purchasing the Halcyon Flare™or Focus™
primary light. These lights represent a new age in the
evoluon of LED primary lights. Powered by a unique LUX engine, these new Halcyon lights use two reectors and
a Fresnel lens to provide full-focus adjustability with amazing output and greatly reduced power consumpon.
These lights produce about twice the output of a 21 wa HID while drawing less than half the power. At half power,
consumpon drops to only 15% of its predecessor.
Halcyon applies this novel LUX engine in two unique products. The Halcyon Flare™ is a xed-focus beam in a
compact housing. The Halcyon Focus™ has a fully adjustable beam, allowing divers to switch between intense focus
and wide ood, suitable for use by a model while shoong underwater video.
Both Flare™and Focus™ have three sealed compartments, isolang the LED core, the driver, and the cable gland.
High performance capacity is further augmented by a fully-adjustable handle, which can be set for le or right
hand operaon. These unique features are powered by a small but powerful baery capable of providing more
than ve hours longevity on full power. Given the robust design and amazing performance it is hard to believe this
unique lighng package weighs less than three pounds (2.95lb/1.3kg), making an excellent travel and all-purpose
diving light.
Power Switch
Your Halcyon Flare™and Focus™ possess a magnec switch which can be easily moved between o, half, and full
power. In order to move the switch you must rotate the small locking screw in the counterclockwise direcon.
Move the switch to the desired posion and lock in place by turning clockwise. The lock screw can be completely
removed for cleaning, but you should be careful not to do so accidentally.
CAUTION: Do not over ghten the lock screw on your power switch. Also, be careful not to
accidentally turn too far in the counterclockwise direcon while underwater.

6
Adjustable Handle
Halcyon’s unique adjustable handle allows divers to
quickly set height and width without tools and to
readjust before, aer, or during the dive. The handle
also swivels forward to reduce size and protect the
front lens. In order to rotate or adjust the handle
height, loosen the winding knob on the side and place
the handle in the desired posion. Width can be set by
gently expanding the sliding part of the handle. This
width adjustment is provided by two fricon screws in
the handle. These should allow easy movement of the
handle. The handle may be quickly adjusted for either
hand by loosening the winding knob and rotang to the
opposite side. You can change the locaon of the thumb
support by removing the aachment plate and rotang
the enre handle assembly.
Attachment Points
There are two main aachment points on your Halcyon
Flare™/Focus™. You can aach a bolt snap to the slot at
the top of the handle adjustment. You may also aach
a bolt snap or temporary aachment to the rear of the
light head.
Focus™ Knob
The Halcyon Focus™ allows a full range of adjustability.
Turning the adjustment knob clockwise provides a
ghter beam. As the focus becomes near the maximum
you will note a progressively square beam paern. At full
focus you will actually be able to see the LED diode. You
have reached the maximum possible focus. Turn counter
clockwise to expand the beam into a ood which is an
excellent way to see greater detail in your surroundings
and/or provide good video lighng support.
Battery Pack
The ny footprint of the Halcyon baery pack is matched
by ease of use and convenient modularity. This small pack
is constructed from a solid piece of Delrin and runs at full
power for more than ve hours; half power extends use
to an amazing 15 hours. You can also change baeries
in the eld by rotang the baery counterclockwise
and removing the baery from the tether. You should
ensure the O-rings are clean and lubricated to enhance
easy installaon/removal of the baery pack. This same
baery can be used with the EOS Mini, and you can use

7
the half pack size with your Flare™or Focus™ light. Divers that purchased the NiMH 9 amp or 13 amp baeries
should refer to the Halcyon Explorer™/EOS™/Apollo™ Lighng Manual.
CAUTION: The baery must be seated in the base of the tether. Gently turn the baery clockwise
unl it stops. Do not over ghten!
You can disengage the power pack for travel by turning it counter clockwise unl the baery no longer makes
contact inside the tether. Test this posion by acvang the light and verifying no power is being supplied to
the cord. Divers using E/O cords (underwater pluggable) must remember this cord is supplied with power when
disconnected underwater unless you take the above steps to disengage the power supply.
WARNING: Do not leave the power on while exposing an unplugged E/O cord underwater. It will
damage the electrical contacts.
Battery Charging
You may charge your baery by turning it
counterclockwise and removing it from the tether
base. Then gently screw the baery into the table
charger. The wall plug will glow green when rst
supplied with power and red while charging. When
the charge is complete the wall plug will glow green.
Plugging the baery into the charger base will
acvate the green light (by supplying power). You
must ensure the wall outlet is receiving power in
order to charge the baery.
CAUTION: Do not leave the baery in the charger base for extended periods while disconnected
from a power source, as this will drain the baery.
Light and Battery Operation
Your Halcyon Flare™/Focus™ light is designed with the highest quality LED diodes and carefully opmized to produce
the opmal blend between high light output and low energy consumpon. The LED diodes are placed within
a robust aluminum housing which is designed to keep the lights cool and well protected. These lights will burn
remarkably brightly for very long periods. This runme is naturally aected by the energy density of the baery and

8
the intensity of light output. The Flare™and Focus™ lights both maintain two power sengs. The low power seng
is extremely ecient, burning only about a third of one amp or roughly 10% of a typical HID bulb. The high power
seng draws less than one amp, or less than half a typical HID bulb, while producing more light output.

Operational Limits
When the baery capacity runs low your Halcyon Flare™/Focus™ lights will automacally switch to low light output
to insure addional operaonal me. This switch occurs around 9.8 volts. The lights will automacally shut o
when they reach 9 volts. The Halcyon Flare™/Focus™ lights also maintain a protecon against overheang and will
shut down when internal temperatures exceed operaonally safe parameters. The light will operate again when
the temperature returns to a safe range. The Halcyon Flare™/Focus™ design has been tested for waterght integrity
to a depth of 300m.
WARNING: You should not operate your Flare™/Focus™ out of the water for extended periods, as
this will build excess heat and potenally damage your light.

9
Traveling with your Flare™/Focus™
During travel you should loosen the baery from the tether base so the light can’t be ignited accidently. The light
is very robust but care should be taken during transport by packing in a way that protects the light from shock
or excess abuse. The Flare™/Focus™ baery meets all current ying requirements regarding lithium content. The
complete light also weighs less than 3 pounds (2.95lb/1.3kg) making it a breeze to carry or check for all your diving
trips.
Care and Maintenance
• Your Flare™/Focus™ light is extremely resilient but should be treated with care in order to ensure maximum
lifespan.
• You should not run this light out of the water for any extended period.
• You should clean your light with fresh water aer each dive, and keep it clean.
• Keep O-rings free of dirt and lightly lubricated.
• Do not try to open the light head or baery pack. This will void your warranty.
Troubleshooting:
1. My light doesn’t turn on.
Ensure the baery is fully screwed into the tether base and verify the baery if fully charged.
2. My baery doesn’t seem to have a full charge.
Ensure the charger is operang by rst plugging into a power source. You should see a green light on the wall
plug. Then screw the baery into the charger base. If the baery is discharged then you should see a red light
which shows unl charged before changing to green. If the baery is discharged and the light remains green
then your charger should be evaluated by a Halcyon repair technician.
3. My Focus™ knob feels loose or the focus seems o.
Verify the set screw on the knob is secure. The focus beam can be reset by adjusng the locaon of this knob
relave to the winding spindle.
