Help and advice for connecting to a TV that has Analogue Audio Output
Step1.If the TV has audio out sockets , connect from them to your transmitter. It is
important to be sure that the sockets are for audio out as in many cases the red and
white sockets are for sound in and not sound out. Audio out is usually shown as a
circle with an arrow pointing out of it.
Step 2.If the TV has no audio out sockets or they are not working , the next thing to try
is the headphone socket .Simply switch the TV on
and insert the 3.5mm jack plug into the headphone
socket, if the sound is not cut from the speakers then
connect from this into the audio in on the transmitter .
You will then have to adjust the headphone volume
level on the TV. This is done by pressing the menu
button on the TV remote, selecting sound and then
moving the headphone volume to about half of full.
Step 3.If the TV has no audio out and the headphone
connection cuts the sound from the TV speakers ,
simply pick up sound by fixing the microphone provided to the speaker of the TV.
Help and advice for connecting to a TV that has Digital Optical Audio Output
Many of the newer TV models no longer have analogue audio
output , they have Digital Optical Audio Out .The picture to the
left shows the type of socket to look for. To connect your
equipment from this socket you will require an optional Digital
to Analogue Converter.
The picture below shows the front and rear of a Digital to
Analogue converter. Set up is easy .The converter is connected
from the TV to the (in) socket on the converter and the EchoIR
is then connected to the phono out sockets. The converter is
supplied with a mains adapter and Optical connecting cable.

Features
EchoIR
EchoIR
isa most versatile and technically sophisticated infra red listening system.
This equipment will give you complete freedom to listen to your favorite TV or
programs, enjoy music or conversation, without irritating leads running across
the floor. A microphone is also included to further enhance the flexibility of the
system allowing it to be used as a personal listener to assist when talking, using the
telephone or computer. Please read these instructions carefully as they will ensure
that you get the most out of your new system.

Personal Listener Instructions
Connect the microphone into the MIC IN socket on the receiver. Extend the
microphone cable and place the microphone near to the sound source you want to
amplify. Ensure the volume is set to off, switch on the receiver and adjust the volume
and tone to your required levels. If using the neckloop system place the neckloop over
your head, set your hearing aids to the T setting then adjust the volume to your
preferred level. The microphone may also be clipped on a pocket as shown for use for
general conversation

To use the receiver as a wired listener plug one end of the stereo patch lead into the
LINE IN or MIC IN socket on the receiver and connect the other end to an audio
source such as PC, Radio, MP3, etc. Ensure the volume on the receiver is set to off,
then switch on the receiver and adjust the volume and tone to your required levels.
The microphone can also be used to help amplify people's voice coming through the
speaker of a telephone. Simply connect the microphone and hold it against the
telephone speaker then increase the volume with the volume wheel on the receiver
to your required level.

E. Set up and user instructions
1. Place the EchoIR transmitter in well ventilated position on top of or next to your
TV ensuring the infra red lens faces into the room, then plug the 12VDC power
adapter into an electrical power socket and plug the power lead into the transmitter
DC socket.
2. If your TV has audio output sockets connect the phono/phono lead to these sockets
and plug the 3.5mm jack plug end of the lead into the EchoIR audio in socket (for
sound boost connect to mic in socket). If your TV has no audio output sockets but has
a spare SCART socket, plug the SCART adapter into the TV and connect the phono/
phono lead to the SCART adapter then plug the 3.5mm end into the EchoIR audio in
socket (for sound boost connect to mic in socket). If the SCART connection is not
successful connect the microphone. Simply plug the 3.5mm plug of the microphone
cable into the MIC IN socket on the EchoIR transmitter and then fix the microphone
onto the TV speaker using the Velcro strip provided, please see picture below. It may
also be possible to connect to a digital receiver such as a Sky or Virgin box, please see
page 14 for further advice.
If your TV only has a Digital Optical Audio out socket, we recommend you purchase
a Digital Audio Converter from our web shop www.hear4you.com.

3. Ensure the transmitter is positioned so that it faces into the room and that there are
no obstacles between the transmitter and the position the receiver will be used. Switch
the transmitter on.
4. (Volume wheel fully anticlockwise).
Switch receiver on, the red power indicator light on the front of the receiver will
come on. Wear the receiver with the infra red window facing the transmitter (power
indicator facing the transmitter). Adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level
by rotating the volume wheel clockwise.
IMPORTANT Make sure volume is set to off
5. If using neckloop system, set hearing aids to the T setting, place neckloop over head
and around neck then adjust volume to a comfortable listening level.

Frequency response: Rotate the TONE wheel to adjust the sound for personal
preference.
Balance adjustment: If your hearing ability differs in each ear, the levels for left and
right can be adjusted using the screw driver supplied. Note: balance adjustment is
only possible for headset system, neckloop system is pre-set and must not be
adjusted.

The transmitter will automatically go into a standby mode if no audio signal is
received for a period of about 25 seconds. As soon as the TV or input signal to the
transmitter is switched on the transmitter will start to transmit again.
The receiver will automatically mute when it is not receiving a signal.
Note when the transmitter is not receiving a signal the power indicator light
will be on and the infra red emitters in the middle of the transmitter will be off.

If using the EchoIR with a mobile phone do not hold the phone too close to the
receiver to ensure you do not get interference from the phone.

Ensure the volume is set to off on the receiver,
can also be used for talking via a computer.
1.Pug the microphone cable into the Mic in
socket of a computer and clip the microphone
on to your lapel close to your mouth.
2.Connect one end of the stereo patch lead to the
headphone socket on the computer and the other
end into the LINE IN on the receiver.
then switch it on and adjust the volume and tone
to your required levels. (note the volume of the
headphone setting may need to be adjusted on
your computer)
Charging the EchoIR
The charge light will only come on if the battery
requires charging.
Switch off the receiver prior to charging.
Place the receiver into the charging bay of the
transmitter, the receiver can only fit into the bay
if the EchoIR logo is facing to the front.
When inserted correctly you will feel it click into
place. Whilst charging the light on the left side of
the transmitter will be Lit.
Once charging is complete the light will go out.
Charging is monitored automatically and
charging will stop as soon as the battery is full.

Please read and follow the safety instructions before using the product
Safety Instructions and Precautions
* When using this unit, basic safety precautions as below should always be followed
to avoid the risk of electrical shock or personal injury.
Listening to uncomfortable sound levels for prolonged periods could adversely
affect your hearing.
If using a microphone or line input, the plug be fully inserted into the correct
socket and the before turning
the unit on. Failure to do so can result in high sound levels that could adversely
affect your hearing.
Using this product inappropriately could adversely affect your hearing.
Please follow the step-by-step instructions carefully!
Do not use in an environment that is damp, wet, very hot or very cold.
To clean the EchoIR and its accessories, use only a soft cloth and an inorganic
cleaner .

* Only use the Hearing Products Int'l Ltd approved mains adapter. Do not use any
other type of mains adapter.
* Install the unit securely on a stable surface, well ventilated with at least 10 cms free
space around the transmitter and install the unit where the power cord will not be
subject to damage or cause a tripping hazard.
* The unit may get warm when being used. Ensure the unit has adequate ventilation.
* Please refer all servicing to authorized qualified personnel ONLY! Do not attempt
to open the unit!

G. Troubleshooting
