Safety
Use in accordance with European and national regulations. For
indoor use only. Keep your device completely dry. This product
must be installed by a competent person and in accordance
with all European and national regulations.
Always isolate AC power before installing or working
on components that require 230 VAC 50 Hz.
This unit is rated IPX0 and should be installed outside of splash
areas in bathrooms.

use. Keep in a safe place.

When used without the Smartlife app, Herschel XLS
Heaters controlled by this T-PL can only be used as
portable heaters in well-insulated spaces and only for
occasional use.
When used with the Smartlife app, Herschel XLS
heaters controlled by this T-PL can be permanently
installed as fixed electrical space heaters.
2-year warranty
Register your product in the Help and FAQ section of
your local Herschel website.
Within two years from the date of purchase, Herschel
will repair or replace the T-PL when the defect is due
to defects in materials or workmanship. This warranty
is for standard home use only and excludes
commercial uses. In the event of a warranty claim,
please visit the Customer Service section of the
Herschel website and follow the warranty claim
process. You will need proof of purchase.

Thermostat Wifi Plugin T-PL
Herschel T-PL is a plug-in thermostat designed to work
exclusively with Herschel XLS heaters.
T-PL has manual temperature control with a24-hour
timer.
T-PL also has Wi-Fi capability so you can control your
heating remotely via the Smartlife app or by voice
command using Alexa or Google Assistant. The addition
of the Smartlife app also allows for a 7-day program with
4 periods per day.
All modes will operate your Herschel heater(s) by turning
them on if the ambient temperature is below the desired
temperature and turn them off once the desired
temperature is reached or exceeded.
The T-PL can be paired with more than one heater,
meaning that multiple heaters in the room can be
controlled with the same T-PL thermostat.
Please read these instructions in conjunction with the
instructions for the Herschel XLS panel.
This unit is rated IPX0 and should be installed outside of
splash areas in bathrooms.

Instructions for use
Pairing the T-PL with the Heater
1. Double press the pairing button on the SMART-R
box of the heater. The green pairing status LED
will start flashing and the heater is ready for
pairing.
2. Plug the T-PL into an available AC outlet and turn
it off using the power button.
"OF" appears on the display.
3. Long press the pairing button "P" on the T-PL and
the letter "P" will flash on the display.
4. When pairing is successfully complete, the green
pairing status light on the SMART-R enclosure will
turn solid green and the letter "P" on the display
will disappear.
5. You shouldn't encounter any difficulties when
pairing, but in case you do, make sure the T-PL
and heater are within range of each other and try
the above process again.
6. Press the power button on the T-PL to start using
it to control the heater.

Manage your heating using your T-PL Control
Without the Smartlife app
When used without the Smartlife app, your T-PL
controller will manage the temperature you set on the
keybpad (using the + and - buttons) 24 hours a day.
The T-PL has a 0-24 hour timer function that can be
activated by pressing the Clock button.
Press the Clock button again to set the timer duration in
hours (1 press = 1 hour, 2 presses = 2 hours, etc.). Once
the time limit is reached, both the T-PL and the heater
will be turned off, regardless of whether the set
temperature has been reached.
Temperature calibration
If you want to adjust the temperature display to align
this unit with another thermostat, press the "P" button
for 5 seconds until the screen displays "Room 0°C" and
use the + or - keys to adjust the upward or downward
shift. (Adjusting upwards adjusts the T-PL if it is
underreading compared to another thermostat.
Adjusting down adjusts the T-PL if it is over-reading
compared to another thermostat).
Using the T-PL without the Smartlife app makes it
suitable only if the Herschel XLS heater is designed as a
portable unit for occasional use in well-insulated rooms.

Operating using the SmartLife app
When used with the SmartLife app, your T-PL controller
becomes a smart thermostat with a 7-day schedule with
4 periods per day with the added benefit of allowing
control of your heating even when you are not at home.
The app also has a manual operation mode and a
Holiday (away) mode.
Smartlife App Notice:
The Smartlife app is constantly evolving and future
versions may differ from these instructions that were
correct at the time of printing. You can always find the
most current version of the instructions by visiting the
T-PL controller product page on the Herschel website,
which links to the most recent instructions.

After installing and opening the SmartLife app, you
must create an account using an email address and
password and agree to the Terms of Service.
To add your T-PL controller
Turn off your T-PL and then long press the Wifi button
until the Wifi icon on the screen flashes.
Tap "+" at the top
right of the app
Select "Small Home
appliances“ then
"Thermostats (Wifi)"
If this is your first
thermostat you are
adding, you will be
asked to enter your
WiFi password.
You won't have to
do this when you
add subsequent
thermostats to the
app.

Operations available on the App

Manual mode
Selecting manual mode allows you to set and
maintain a constant temperature that does not vary
with the time of day. Once you have set a
temperature using the manual mode, the T-PL will
maintain that temperature until you give the T-PL
another command. Select manual mode by tapping
the "Manual" icon on the main app screen and
change the temperature up or down using the + and
- buttons.
Explanation of operating modes
Smart Mode
Your Herschel Select XLS heater works more
efficiently when configured to operate on a schedule
controlled by the T-PL thermostat. This program will
always ensure that your room reaches the desired
temperature at the time you want, every day of the
week. This is represented by the "Smart" function on
the App. So you'll usually want to set up and run the
unit in Smart mode. To select Smart mode, tap the
"Smart" icon on the app and set your program
settings in "settings".

Override
You can always override programmed or manual set
temperatures to be higher or lower by using the + or -
keys on the main app screen or T-PL keypad to change
the temperature. When operating in smart mode, the T-
PL will maintain the override temperature until the next
programmed period (when the next programmed
temperature will be set). In manual mode, the override
temperature will remain set until you manually change
it again.
Holiday mode
There is also a Holiday mode that allows you to save
energy by setting a lower temperature while you're
away. The Holiday mode has a day counter function
allowing you to set the number of days of absence and
return the heating to normal operation before your
return. Select Vacation mode by tapping the "Vacation"
icon on the main screen of the app. Select Days away
using the slider and adjust the temperature of your
vacation using the + or –buttons. We recommend that
you end Holiday mode at least one day before you
return to allow your home to warm up again.

Other App functions
Settings
"Settings" on the App allow you to change program
schedules and temperatures in Smart mode.
Timer
The Smartlife app has a timer function identical to the
timer function on the keypad. This function only works if
the T-PL has been placed in "Manual" mode.
To use the timer, select the manual mode, then tap the
"timer" icon and select the countdown time (1 hour, 2
hours, etc.). When the selected time has elapsed, both
the T-PL and the heater turn off, regardless of whether
the set temperature has been reached.
Device Details
You can edit other details about your T-PL, including
turning on Alexa or Google Assistant or sharing control of
your device with other family members by tapping the "3
dots" icon at the top right of the app's main screen.
If you start using Smartlife to control other smart home
devices, you can also integrate your T-PL control into
other smart home tasks that you set up in Smartlife from
the Device Details screen.
