1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Precautions, Care & Maintenance
WARNING:
Read and save
these instructions!
Safety may be jeopardized if the equipment is used in a manner not speci-
fied by the manufacturer. Carefully read and keep the following instruc-
tions for future reference.
• Although fuses at the input and outputs of the controller protect its
circuits in case of an overload or overvoltage, we recommend install-
ing an additional protection device on the controller's supply circuit.
• The room temperature where the controller is located must always
remain between 32 °F and 104 °F (0 °C to 40 °C). For Indoor use
only !
• To avoid exposing the controller to harmful gases or excessive humidity,
it is preferable to install it in a corridor.
•Do not spray water on the controller! In order to clean the control,
wipe it with a damp cloth.
Before servicing or cleaning unit, switch power off at service
panel and lock the switch disconnecting means to prevent
power from being switched accidentally. When the service
disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a
prominent warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel.
• The controller should be opened and inspected once a year for mois-
ture. Proper care will extend the life of the control.

3. INSTALLATION
3.1 Mounting Instructions
Open the latch and lift the cover. Remove the black caps located on each
of the four mounting holes. Mount the enclosure on the wall using four
screws. Be sure the electrical knockouts are at the bottom of the enclo-
sure in order to prevent water from entering the controller. Insert the
screws in the mounting holes and tighten. Fasten the four black caps
provided with the controller onto the four mounting holes. The enclosure
must be mounted in a location that will allow the cover to be completely
opened right up against the wall.
3.2 Connections
To connect the controller, refer to the wiring diagram enclosed with this
user's manual. Use the electrical knockouts provided at the bottom of the
enclosure. Do not make additional holes in the enclosure, particularly on
the side of the enclosure when using a computer communications module.
Refer to the wiring diagram enclosed with this user's manual to connect
the controller. Use the electrical knockouts provided at the bottom of the
enclosure. Do not make additional holes in the enclosure, particularly on
the side of the enclosure when using a computer communication module.
All wiring must be done by an authorized electrician and must
comply with applicable codes, laws and regulations. Be sure
power is off before doing any wiring to avoid electrical shocks
and equipment damage.
Do not install rigid conduit into electrical knockouts. Only nylon
cable glands are permitted for cable or wire fastening.
The controller has no power-on switch. An external switch or
circuit breaker shall be included in the building installation to
interrupt power to L and N electric power lines. It shall be in
close proximity to the equipment and within easy reach of the
operator. It shall be marked as the disconnecting device for the
equipment.

inside of the front cover of the con-
troller. When the controller is shipped
from the factory, all the switches are
set to OFF.
3.4 Voltage Selection
If a voltage switch is located on the electronic circuit
board of the controller, set it to the corresponding power
supply (115 or 230 V).

4. CONTROLLER'S OPERATION
4.1 Description of the Controller
The
EVOLUTION BIRD SCALE
is an electronic device which collects and
analyzes weight data from bird scale(s). It is used to supervise the evolution of
birds.
4.2 How to use the Controller
The bird scale controller was designed with the user in mind. Thus, great
care has been put into making the user interface as easy to understand as
possible. The following paragraphs explain the way the parameters are
organized and how to adjust them.
There are 2 types of values which may be seen on the display (Fig.1, Item B):
Readings and Parameters.
A Reading is a value which may not be changed by the user.
A Parameter is a value which may be changed by the user.
When a value on the display flashes, this means that it is a
parameter which may be adjusted by the user.
If the value does not flash, it is a reading, or a parameter which
is locked.
4.3 Changing Parameter Values
To change the value of a parameter, simply use the adjustment buttons
(Fig.1, Item D). Pressing the "+" button increases the value of a param-
eter whereas pressing the " - " buttons decreases its value.

4.4 How the Parameters are Grouped
All parameters and readings are grouped into logical groups called func-
tions. Functions are selected using the arrow keys (Fig.1, item C) or by
stepping through the function menus. To scroll the options within a menu,
use the up and down-arrow keys (Fig.1 item C). If a menu has more
than two items, the display scrolls to show additional items. Use the right-
arrow key to select a menu option. Use the left-arrow key to return
to the previous menu. Note that if passwords are used, some parameters
may not be accessible to all users for security reasons.
4.5 Short-cut keys
These 6 buttons allow the user to quickly step to the special predefined
functions on display. The table below shows the destination of these keys.

5. USING THE CONTROLLER
5.1 First Installation
These are the basic steps to start up your bird scale controller:
1- Connect the control according to the wiring diagram enclosed with this
manual.
2- Power up the controller.
3- Set the time and date (sec. 5.2).
4- Enter the installer password to access the installation menu (sec. 5.7.1).
5- Enter the number of scales connected to the controller (sec. 5.7.2).
6- Define weight groups (sec. 5.7.3).

5.3.1 Scale Information
The information menu displays various
weight information coming from each
scale. Note that the controller only logs
weight information on weighing days
(see weighing schedule section).
Use the arrow keys to select the
desired scale then press the right-
arrow key.
Press the right-arrow key once
again to select the "1. Information"
menu. The following pieces of in-
formation regarding the selected
scale are displayed:
Age: Current age of the birds.
Average Weight: Average weight of the birds measured since the
last time of reset.
# of Weighings: Number of weighings recorded since the
last reset.
Gain: Weight gain of the birds for the past 2 hours.
Actual weight: This is the current weight on the scale.

7-day Average: This is the average weight of the birds of the
past 7 weighing days (see weighing schedule
section). Note that this value is only available
for breeders and it is only displayed after
7 weighing days.
Standard deviation: The standard deviation represents how spread
apart the weights are. For instance, a standard
deviation of 20 grams means that most birds
(68%) weigh +/- 20 grams from the average
weight. This also means that 95% of the birds
weigh +/- 40 grams from the average weight
(2 times the standard deviation). In other words,
the lower the standard deviation is, the more
uniform the flock is.
Variation
Coefficient (CV): Shows the standard deviation as a percentage
of the average.
Uniformity: This value shows the percentage of uniform
birds in the flock. The uniformity is determined
by the uniformity bandwidth. Refer to section
5.7.5.1.
Weighing Today: This value tells the number of weighings that
have been logged today by the selected scale.
Note that this value is calculated on weighing
days only (see weighing schedule section).
