Due to the refrigerant, oil and other components contained in Air Conditioner, its dismantling must be done by a professio-

Il simbolo del cassonetto barrato riportato sull’ apparecchiatura indica che il prodotto alla ne della propria vita utile deve essere raccolto
separatamente dagli altri riuti.
L’utente dovrà, pertanto, conferire l’apparecchiatura giunta a ne vita agli idonei centri di raccolta differenziata dei riuti elettronici ed
elettrotecnici, oppure riconsegnarla al rivenditore al momento dell’ acquisto di una nuova apparecchiatura di tipo equivalente.
L’adeguata raccolta differenziata delle apparecchiature dismesse, per il loro avvio al riciclaggio, al trattamento ed allo smaltimento
ambientalmente compatibile, contribuisce ad evitare possibili effetti negativi sull’ ambiente e sulla salute e favorisce il riciclo dei materiali

Following Regulation EU No. 517/2014 on Certain Fluorinated Greenhouse gases, it is mandatory to ll in the label attached to the unit with the total amount
of refrigerant charged on the installation.
Do not vent R410A into the atmosphere: R410A are uorinated greenhouse gases covered by the Kyoto protocol global warming potential (GWP) R410A: =
2088.
Tn of CO2 equivalent of uorinated greenhouse gases contained is calculated by indicated GWP * Total Charge (in kg) indicated in the product label and
divided by 1000.

con la unidad con la cantidad total de refrigerante con que se ha cargado la instalación.

1.- Fill in the Label with indelible ink the refrigerant amounts:  - Factory Charge,  - Additional Charge &  - Total Charge.
2.- Stick the Protection Plastic Film on the F-Gas Label (delivered in a plastic bag with the Manual). To see Figure nº 2.

conditioner type, how it is abbreviated and referred to in this instruction manual. This
Installation and Operation Manual is only related to the RASC units HNPE combined
with the HITACHI indoor units System Free.

2 SAFETY
2.1 APPLIED SYMBOLS
During normal air conditioning system design work or unit
installation, greater attention must be paid in certain situations
requiring particular care in order to avoid injuries an damage to
the unit, the installation or the building or property.
Situations that jeopardise the safety of those in the surrounding
area or that put the unit itself a risk will be clearly indicated in
this manual.
To indicate these situations, a series of special symbols will be
used to clearly identify these situations.
Pay close attention to these symbols and to the messages
following them, as your safety and that of others depends on it.

• The text following this symbol contains information and
instructions relating directly to your safety and physical
wellbeing.
• Nottakingtheseinstructionsintoaccountcouldleadtoserious,
very serious or even fatal injuries to you and others in the
proximitiesoftheunit.

2.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT SAFETY

areequippedwithelectricalparts.Ifwatercontactswithelectrical
componentsthenitwillcauseaseriouselectricalshock.
• DonottouchoradjustsafetydevicesinsidetheindoororRASC
units.Ifthesedevicesaretouchedoradjusted,itmaycausea
seriousaccident.
• Do not open the service cover or access the indoor or RASC
unitswithoutdisconnectingthemainpowersupply.
• IncaseofreTurnOFFthemainswitch,putoutthereatonce
andcontactyourservicecontractor.
!CAUTION
• Do not use any sprays such as insecticide, lacquer, hair spray or
otherammablegaseswithinapproximatelyone(1)meterfromthe
system.
• If circuit breaker or fuse is often activated, stop the system and
contactyourservicecontractor.
• Do not make service or inspections tasks by yourself. This works
mustbeperformedbyqualiedserviceperson.
• Donotputanystrangematerial(sticks,etc...)intotheairinletand
outlet.Theseunitshavehighspeedrotatingfansanditisdangerous
thatanyobjecttouchesthem.
• Refrigerant leakage can cause difculty with breathing due to
insufcientair.
• This appliance must be used only by adult and capable people,
having received the technical information or instructions to handle
properlyandsafelythisappliance.
• Childrenshouldbesupervisedtoensurethattheydonotplaywith
theappliance.

bundled with the outdoor unit. In case that the CD-ROM is
missing or it is not readable, please contact your Hitachi
dealer or distributor.

CD-ROM CAREFULLY BEFORE STARTING WORK
ON THE INSTALLATION OF THE AIR CONDITIONING
SYSTEM. Failure to observe the instructions for installation,
use and operation described in this documentation may
result in operating failure including potentially serious faults,
or even the destruction of the air conditioning system.
• Verify, in accordance with the manuals which appear in the
RASC and indoor units, that all the information required for
the correct installation of the system is included. If this is not
the case, contact your distributor.

• This air conditioner has been designed for standard air

• Signal words (NOTE, DANGER and CAUTION) are used
to identify levels of hazard seriousness. Denitions for
identifying hazard levels are provided in initial pages of this
document.
• These operations modes are controlled by the remote
control switch.
• This manual should be considered as a permanent part of
the air conditioner. This manual gives a common description
and information for this air conditioner which you operate as
well as for other models.
!DANGER
• Pressure Vessel and Safety Device: This air conditioner is
equipped with a high pressure vessel under PED (Pressure
EquipmentDirective).Thepressurevesselhasbeen designed
andtestedbeforeshipmentaccordingtoPED.Also,inorderto
preventthesystemfromanabnormalpressure,ahighpressure
switch, which needs no eld adjustment, is utilized in the
refrigerationsystem.
• Therefore, this air conditioner is protected from abnormal
pressures.However,if abnormally highpressure isapplied to
the refrigeration cycle including the high pressure vessel(s),
it will result in serious injury or death due to explosion of
the pressure vessel. Do not apply a pressure higher than the
followingpressuretothesystem,bymodifyingorchangingthe
highpressureswitch.
!CAUTION
This unit is designed for commercial and light industrial application.
If installed in house hold appliance, it could cause electromagnetic
interference.
Start-up and Operation: Checktoensurethatallthestopvalvesarefullyopenedandnoobstacleexistsattheinlet/outletsides
beforestart-upandduringtheoperation.
Maintenance:Periodicallycheckthehighpressureside.Ifthepressureishigherthanthemaximumallowablepressure,stopthe
systemandcleantheheatexchangerorremovethecause.

4 TRANSPORTATION AND HANDLING
Hanging method
When hanging the unit, ensure the balance of the unit, check
safety and lift it up smoothly. Do not remove any packing
materials and hang the unit under packing condition with two
ropes, as shown in the gure.

• Ensurethattheexterioroftheunitisadequatelyprotectedwithcloth

Handling unit (centre of gravity)
When the unit is lifted, pay attention to the following points:
1 Do not remove the wooden base until its nal position.
2 To prevent the unit from overturning, pay attention to the centre of gravity as shown in the following gure:

5 BEFORE OPERATION
!CAUTION
• Supply electrical power to the system for approximately 12 hours
before start-up or a long shutdown. Do not start the system
immediatelyafterpowersupply, it may cause a compressorfailure
becausethecompressorisnotheatedwell.
• Whenthesystemisstartedafterashutdownlongerthatapproximately
3months,itisrecommended to check thesystembyyourservice
contractor.
• TurnOFFthemainswitchwhenthesystemistobestoppedforalong
periodoftime:IfthemainswitchisnotturnedOFF,electricitywillbe
used,becausetheoilheaterisalwaysenergisedduringcompressor
stopping.
• Make sure that the RASC unit is not covered with snow or ice. If
covered,removeitbyusing hot water (approximately50°C).Ifthe
watertemperatureishigherthat50°C,itwillcausedamagetoplastic
parts.

7 UNITS INSTALLATION
7.1 INITIAL CHECK
!CAUTION
• InstalltheRASCunitinarestrictedareanotaccessiblebythegeneral
public.
• Donotinstalltheunitoutdoors(Waterproofclass:IPX0).Onlyindoor
installationisallowed,andairforbothsuctionanddischargemust
comefromoutsidethebuilding.
• Ensure that the installation area has a proper ventilation so that
ambienttemperaturearoundtheunitdoesneverexceed46ºC.
• InstalltheRASCunitwithsufcientclearancearounditforoperation
andmaintenance.
• DonotinstalltheRASCunitwhereisahighlevelofoilmist,saltyair
orsulphurousatmosphere.
• InstalltheRASCunitasfaraspractical(beingatleast3meters)from
electromagneticwaveradiator(suchasmedicalequipment).
• InstalltheRASCunitwheregoodventilationisavailable,forworking
inanenclosedspacemaycauseoxygendeciency.Toxicgasmay
beproducedwhencleaningagentisheatedtohightemperatureby,
e.g.,beingexposedtore.
• Cleaningliquidshallbecollectedaftercleaning.
• Forcleaning,usenoninammableandnontoxiccleaningliquid.Use
ofinammableagentmaycauseexplosionorre.
• Payattentionnottoclampcableswhenattachingtheservicecoverto
avoidelectricshockorre.
• Keep clearance between the units of more than 50mm, and avoid
obstaclesthatmayhamperairintake,wheninstallingmorethanone
unitstogether.
• InstalltheRASCunitintheshadeornotexposedtodirectsunshine
ordirectradiationfromhightemperatureheatsource.
• Do not install the RASC unit in a space where a seasonal wind
directlyblowstotheRASCunit.
• Check to ensure that the foundation is at, level and sufciently
strong.
• Aluminiumnshaveverysharpedges.Payattention to the ns to
avoidinjury.
• Keepclearancebetweenthewall(withoutventholes)andairinlet/
outletpartmorethan3metersinordertoavoidshortcircuit.
• Donotputanymaterialontheproducts.
• Donotputanystrangematerial(sticks,etc...)intotheairinletand
outlet.Theseunitshavehighspeedrotatingfansanditisdangerous
thatanyobjecttouchesthem.
7.2 INSTALLATION SPACE

(*):Recommendedservicingspaceforfanunitinthosecaseswhere
it is not possible to access from the unit’s side. In these cases, a
“removableservicingduct”ora“removablegrille”(incaseofinstalling
theunitnexttoawall)shallbeinstalledtoallowreplacementofthe
fanunitwhenevernecessary(whichshouldbemadefromtheunit’s
frontside).
7.3 INSTALLATION PLACE PROVISION
Floor mounted
1 Foundation could be on at and is recommended be
100-300mm higher than oor level.
2 Install a drainage around foundation for smooth drain.
3 When installing the unit x it by anchor bolts of M10.
4 Use vibration-proof rubber (approx. 60 degree) between the
unit and foundation.
5 Drain water sometimes turns to ice. Therefore, avoid
draining in an area that people often use because it is
slippery.
6 Check to ensure that water-proong measure shall be taken
to the foundation.
7 Install the unit making sure that the drain outlet part is lower
(>25mm / <30mm) than the opposite side in order to avoid
incorrect drain discharge.

2 Ensure that ceiling can resist the unit weight which is
indicated into the specication label.

• If the unit is suspended in the ceiling, place for installation is
sufcientlystrong.Ifnot,reinforcetheplacewithbeams,etc.,(more
than150kgforoneslingbolt)otherwise,theunitmayfalldownorthe
unitwindresonancemayproduceabnormalnoise.
• Do not install the unit using vibration-proof springs or mounting
springs.
7.4 FAN PERFORMANCE CURVE
RASC unit can be installed with suction and/or discharge air ducts. Refer to the fan performance curves in order to ensure that the
air volume is within the working range.
In case of using suction and/or discharge air ducts, check the fan performance curve and decide which ducts are suitable according
to the external static pressure (Pa) / air ow volume (m3/min.).

• When designing a duct, check to ensure that theAir volume is

7.4.1 Setting of the fan performance curves
In some installations, it may be necessary to adjust the fan
operation settings of RASC-(6/8/10)NPE units in order to
achieve an optimal performance of the fan unit. The correct
static pressure setting (Low / Medium / High) has to be selected
using the PSW and 7-segment display on the RASC PCB,
according to the pressure values below:
• RASC-(4/5)HP: No setting is required.
• RASC-(6/8)HP: Select the “Medium pressure setting (f2:1)”
for external static pressures higher than 50Pa.
• RASC-10HP: Select the most suitable static pressure
setting, depending on the installation conditions:
-“Medium pressure setting (f2:1)”: For external static
pressures between 50 and 80 Pa.
-“High pressure setting (f2:2)”: For external static
pressures higher than 80 Pa.
Default value: “Low pressure setting (f2:0)”
In order to do so, measure the fan motor current and set the
static pressure setting according to the following table. For
the measurement of the fan motor current, please refer to the
following drawing

Also, provide insulation for duct and connection in order to

8 REFRIGERANT PIPING & REFRIGERANT CHARGE
8.1 PIPING WORK CONNECTION CONSIDERATIONS
8.1.1 Piping Materials
1 Prepare locally-supplied copper pipes.
2 Select the piping size with the correct thickness and correct
material which can have sufcient pressure strength.
3 Select clean copper pipes. Make sure there is no dust and
moisture inside. Blow the inside of the pipes with oxygen
free nitrogen to remove any dust and foreign materials
before connecting pipes.
4 After connecting the refrigerant piping, seal the open space
between Knockout hole and refrigerant pipes by using
insulation material.
?NOTE
• Asystem with no moisture oroil contaminationwill give maximum
performance and life cycle compared to that of a poorly prepared
system.Takeparticularcaretoensureallcopperpipingiscleanand
dryinternally.
• Thereisnorefrigerantinthecycleoftheindoorunit.
!CAUTION
• Captheendofthepipewhenpipeistobeinsertedthroughahole.
• Donotputpipesonthegrounddirectlywithoutacaporvinyltapeat
theendofthepipe.
• Ifpipinginstallationisnotcompleteduntilnextdayoroveralonger
period of time, braze off the ends of the piping and charge with
oxygenfreenitrogenthroughaSchradervalvetypeaccessttingto
preventmoistureandparticlecontamination.
• Do not use insulation material that contents NH3 because can
damagecooperpipematerialandcanbeasourceoffutureleakage.
• Completely insulate both refrigerant gas piping and liquid piping
betweentheindoorunitsandtheRASCunit.
• Ifnotinsulated,dewwilloccuronthepipingsurface.
