BEFORE ASSEMBLY
CONSTRUCTIONHINTS:
1.Trialfiteachpartbeforegluing.Becertainthatthepartsfitproperly.
2.UsePlastiZap ora thintypeCyanoacrylate gluefor installingthe
plastic parts. Donotusetoomuch,as itmay run andspoilthe
appearance.DonotgetCyanoacrylateonthefoam partsoftheExtra
300.Cyanoacrylate will destroy thefoam.
3.Itisbestto use30minute epoxywhere required.Thisallowstime
topositiontheparts before theepoxy cures.
4. Before assembly, placeyour radiosystem oncharge.
5.Thereisa metricruleronpage3 toaidinfindingthecorrect screw
sizes.

center.
4. Makesurethatthereisnogapbetweenthewinghalves.Ifthereis,
sandthewingjoinerendsuntilthereisa tightfit.
1.Alignandepoxythetwo mainwingjoinerstogether.Holdtightuntil
thegluesets.You'llnoticethatthereisdihedralanglecutintothe
joinerssomakesuretheyareperfectlylinedup.
2.Checkeachwinghalfforsmoothaileronoperation.Itisagoodidea
toexercise (move backandforth) theaileronsto insureeasy
deflection.Trim theendof theaileronifanyrubbingisnoticed.

5.Applyepoxytoonehalfofonesideofboththemainandrearwing
joinersandgluethemtoonewinghalf.Makeabsolutelysurethe
wingjoinerpocketiswellcoatedwithepoxy. Makesure the
dihedralangleiscorrectandthatthewinghalves are slidinallthe
way. Cleananyexcess epoxy withpapertowel andisopropyi
alcohol.

6.After thejoiners havecured,applyepoxy whereshown.Thewing
roots, thewing joiners shouldbeevenlyandliberallycovered with
epoxy. Thewingjoinerpocketshouldbeheavilycoatedwithepoxy.
9.Drilltwo 8mm (5/16") holes intothewingjoiners for thedowel
rods.Drillthroughthefront joinerandintotherear wingjoiner.
7.Slidethe two winghalves together slowly andwipeoffany excess
glue.Withthewingona flatsurface, holdonewinghalfdownsothe
otherendwillbeelevated. Thewingtip shouldbe1 1/16"offof
thesurface. Holdthetwowinghalvesfirmlytogetherwithtapeuntil
theepoxy hascured.
10.Epoxythetwo dowelrodsintotheholes.Makesuretheypassallthe
way throughthefront joinerplateandareinserted intotherear
joiner.
8.Oncecured,remove thetape.Positionthefrontjoiner as shown.
Theflat edgeof thejoinershould lineupwith thetop of the wing.
Next,removeandepoxyinthatsameposition.Letcure.NOTE: You
may haveto trim thecovering fora tightwood to woodjoint.Thisis
very important tothestructural integrity of thewing.
11.Positionthewingcenter cover on thebottomof thewing. Apply
Cyanoacrylateglue(PlastiZap) undertheedges andholduntil it
sets.

12.Epoxyinthemainservo tray as shown.15.Screwinthewing boltsintothe wing bolt mounting block so thatthe
heads are 1/4" abovethe block.Apply inkorpaint to the heads of
thetwo bolts.
13.Testfitthewingboltmountingblocktotheinsideof thefuselage. The
blindnuts shouldface down.Makesure that theblindnuts are
securlypressed inandthen placeadrop or two ofCyanoacrylate to
holdthemin.Makesure thatnoglue gets on thethreads
16.Aftertheepoxyhascured,placethewingintothefuselageasshown.
Putthefront infirstby insertingthedowel rods inthe holes. Once
inplacelowerthebackintoposition.This willmarkwhere you need
to drill.
14. Epoxyinthewingboltmountingblock.Thisisahighstresspointand
extra care should betaken to ensure a strong joint. Let cure. 17.Placethewingmounting braceonto thewing as shown andcenter
thewingandbrace inthefuselage. NOTE:Thetwo indentations on
thebraceshouldface up.Trim away any wood to allow theaileron
torquerodsto move freely. UsePlastiZapto gluethis inplace.

18.Drilltwo 4mm holes90'from thetopwingsurfaceforthewingbolts
where thepaintmarksare.
19.Assemble thewingboltsas shown(Bolt- Washer - Wing-0-ring)
andtemporarilyfastendownthewing.Checkfor a goodfit and
thenremove.
20.Trialfittheaileronservotraymountandtraytothewing.NOTE:The
frontedgeshouldbeonthewood.Youwillhavetotrimawayalittle
coveringtoinsureagoodfit. You mayalsohavetotrimthebottom
oftheservotraymountsoitwillfitflush insidethewing.Epoxy the
aileronservotraymountintotherearsectionofthewingservomount
andthenepoxy inthetray.

3.Thread two 4mm nutsonto thetwo screws andtightenNext place
therubbershockabsorberover thescrews.
6.Arrange theaboveparts as shownandthenassemble together.Do
this twice.Place threadlockonthe threadswhen installing the nuts
4.Nowplacethemain gear overthe screwsand secure itwithtwo 4mm
nylon nutsNOTE:tighten thenuts all thewayandthenloosenthem
bothoneturn.Thiswillgivethegearthecorrectshockabsorbing
qualities.
7.Placethe3mm screw/washer intothetop holeof the wheel pants
from theinsideAnd then attach itto the top holeof themaingear
usinga3mm nutwiththreadlock.
5.Next, takethe two wheelpantsanddrilltwo holes ineach oneThe
first holeshould beat theindent(4mm indiameter) The second
shouldbe3/8" above thefirstandsmaller (3mm diameter) Apply
thewheel pant's decal stripes to both sidesof thetwo wheelpants.
8.Flareopenthepantsandinsertthewheelassembly Installthe4mm
nutwith threadlock andtighten, holdingtheinsidenutwith needle
nosepliers.

9.Makesure that both wheels rotatefreely.If they donot,trim away
theplastic as needed.Orif need be,loosen thenuts and reposition
thewheel.
2.Installthetwo mountingplates onto the enginemount. Next, paint
astriponeach plateusingfour4mm x 15mm screws andwashers
andproceedwith thefollowingstepbefore the paintdries.

3.Before touching the plates, aligntheenginesoitispointingstraight
forward. Center theenginewith theplates and carefullytouch the
engineintoposition.Now carefully remove the engineandthere
willbetheguides for drillingthemounting holes.
1.Installtheenginemountto thefuselage usingfour4mm x 20mm
screws andfour lockwashers. Note thedirectionthemount is
installedfor properenginepositioning.Also usethreadlockonthe
screw threads.

4.Drilltwo4mm holesineachmountingplateatthemarks.

5.Mounttheplatestotheengineusingthe3.5mmscrewsupfrom the
bottomasshown.Nextapplyscrewlockingcompoundtothescrew
threadsand tighten onthe3.5mmnuts with lockwashers. Do this
tobothsides.
6.When mountinga four cycle engine,theexisting throttle control
rod hole(for 2-cycle engines)willnotwork. Position the enginetothe
mount anddrilla 1/8"holeintothefirewall soit will lineupwith the
throttlearmontheengine.
7.Nowmount theengineto thefuselage.Usefour 4mm x 15mm
screwswiththefour4mmwashers.Besuretousethreadlockonthe
screws.

3.Carefully benduptheother fuel pipesoitwilljusttouch theinside
top of the fueltank.
6.Puta beadof siliconesealeron theneoprenering.
4. Attach the complete fuel tank capto thetank.Makesure thatthe
bentpipeis pointingto thetop. Slidethecapon untilthelipon the
fueltankisinthe groove of the cap.Then tightenthe screw. Check
to make sure theclunkis free to swingatthebottomofthetank.This
iswhere the term "clunk"comes from.
7.Installthefueltankfromtheinside ofthefuselagewiththefuellines
facing front. Slidethe tank intoits mountandupinto theholeinthe
front of thefuselage.Makesurethatthe fuel tubingisthroughthe
hole.
5.Glue the neoprene ring to the tankwith siliconesealer. Attach two
piecesof fueltubing(6"each) to the pipes.Oneisforthe carburetor
the other isfor thepressure tapon themuffler.
8.Epoxythetanksupportto theinsideof thefrontfuselage. Once
dryapplya beadof siliconesealerwhere the supportandthe
tanktouch.

3.Screw two snapclevises half way upthethreads onthe aileron
controlrods. Next, cut two piecesof theclevisretainingtubing
(3/16")andslidethemontotherods.
1.Checkthefitofyouraileronservo intheaileron servo tray. You may
havetotrimaway some of the servo tray for a good fit.Installthe
rubbergrommetsonto theservo case flange. Route the servo lead
throughtheholeinthebottomof thewingandfasten itto theaileron
servomountusingthe screws providedwiththeradiosystem.
4.Attach theclevises to theaileron horns andslideon the retaining
tubes.After checkingtheneutral position of theaileron servo and
ailerons,putamarkon thepush rodswhere the servo arm holesline
up.Besuretheaileronisintheneutralposition.
2. Screwtheaileronhornsontotheaileroncontrolarms.Trimthewing
mountingbraceasneededforfullaileronmovement. Makesureyou
usethetwohornswiththelargerholes.
5.Atthemark, bendeach pushrod at a rightangle.Next, cut the push
rods6mm from thebend.

6.Locatetwo rodclevisesfrom theplasticpartstree.
9.Trial fit the servos into thefuselage servo tray,andtrim thetray as
neededforagoodfit.
7.Attach therods to theservo arm usingtherod clevis. NOTE:You
may havetouseadifferentstyleservo hornfor morethrowasshown.10.Installthe three remainingservos (1/4"apart) intothetray using
grommet eyelets andscrews. Besure that the servos are
positionedcorrectly. Next, mount theradio switch. NOTE: Make
sure thatthe servowires allrun forwardsotheyareeasily accessible.
8.Connecttheaileronservo to thereceiver andcheck the movement
of theailerons.Makesurethatboth aileronsareneutralwhenthe
servo isneutral.Adjust theclevises as needed.
11.We suggest installing an external switch mount sothattheradio
system caneasily beturned on andofffrom theoutside without
takingthewingoff.(TheDubro#203 Kwik-Switch Mountworks
well.)

12.Assemble therudderandelevator control rodsusingthe parts
above.15.Cut four equalpieces of thewhite shrinktubing (about 2" each)
13.Bendtwo of the longrods as shown for theelevator andoneof the
rodsfortherudder.
16.Assemble theelevator push rod as shown. Placethe two elevator
rodsintothedoublegrooved endofoneoftherods. Next, placeone
oftheshort (pre-bent)rodsintotheother end.
14.Drilla 1/16" hole2" from theends (2 holes1/16" aparton one end
of onerod)of both wood pushrods.With a hobbyknife, carefully
cut straight grooves from theholes to theends.Onlycut a groove
ononesideofeachend.exceptforone endofone rod (the onewith
two holes).Forthisoneend,make a groove on bothsides.
17.Next, dothesamewith theother rudderrod.Makesure that each
rod fitsina groove. Nowslidethefour pieces ofshrink tubingover
theendsof the wooden rods andshrink them with a heat gun or
lighter. To ensure durability, placea dropor two of Cyanoacrylate
gluetotheedges.

18.Punchoutthethreerodexitsatthetailandinserttherudderpushrod
intothefuselagefrom thefront andthenthrough thebottom exit on
therightside.Dothesamewiththeelevator rod,butputthose
throughthetoptwo holes.Itmay benecessaryto bendtherods
slightlytofit.
21.Usethethrottle control rod andthewhite throttletube forthe engine
linkage.Lightlysand the plastic tube sotheepoxy willadhere toit.
Cuttheplastictubesoitisonly 12" long.
19UsingPlasiZap, gluethethree plastic push rod exitsto the
fuselage.
22. Install the plastic tubing through the holeinthe firewalltothe servo
tray Epoxy the tube where it goes inIfusing a fourcycle engine,
install thetube into the drilled hole fromPage 10.
20Checkto make surethattherodswill easily move inandoutwith little
resistance. You may have to bendtherods slightly fora perfect fit
(wewill connect therods to theservos after the tail assembly).
23.Makea "Z" bendon one end of the throttle control rod and insert the
oppositeendintothetube.

24. Connecttheservos to thereceiver andbattery andcenter all radio
controls(includingthethrottle stick andmove theservo horns so
theyareinlinewith theservo as shown.Aftertheyare centered, pull
thethrottlestick backdown (low throttle). Installthe straight servo
hornsthatareincludedwith your radiosystem.
27.Fromtheinside,pullbackthethrottle control rod sothecarburetor
isclosed. Now, marktherod where itcrosses thethrottle servo horn
(inlowposistion).
25.Connectthe"Z"bendtotheenginethrottlearm. Itmaybenecessary
toremove thearmfrom theenginefor easierinstallation.
28.Next, atthemarked point,make another "Z" bend,cutofftheexcess
andattach itto the servo arm. Foreasy adjustments, aneasy
connectcanbeusedhere.(Dubro#121 E-ZConnectorsworkwell.)
26.Epoxy the white tubeto thetubeguide.29.Check for properradiooperation of thethrottle. Make sure that the
carburetorwillmove fromlowtohighcompletely.

tail.Holditon andvisually seeifthe wing andstabilizer are parallel.
Ifnot,sandthehighersideofthestabilizermountuntil!thestabilizer
isparallel.
4. Next take a piece of string and attachitwitha pinto the top center
ofthefuselage. Makesurethatthestabilizeriscenteredandstretch
the stringto thecorneroftheelevator.Adjustthe positioning ofthe
stabilizersothatbothcornersarethe samelengthwhen moving the
stringfrom sideto side.
1.Test fit the1/8"wooden wedgeintothetailendof thefuselage. If
thereisa goodfit, epoxy itinplacemakingsure that itiseven with
thefuselage sides.NOTE:Itmay benecessary totrimaway some
wood or glueto make thewedge fitflush.
5.Next, remove thestabilizerandapply epoxy to thewedge.Reinstall
thestabilizerandre-center likebefore.

2.Trim away as necessary part of theplastic rear cover to allow
proper fitofthehorizontal stabilizer.

6. Oncethehorizontal stabilizerepoxyhascured, trial fitthe vertical fin
(withouttherudder) on top of thehorizontal stabilizer and the back

themetal strip andattach totheundersideof thetailsection so
thatthescrew ispositioned1/2"from theendof thefuselage.

12.Nowtakethesupportsandbendtheendsasshownabove.15.Installthetailwheel
assembly throughthe metal strip. Next, trail fit
therudderontotheverticalfin.Noticewhere thebottomhinge
meetsthefuselageandmakeaslotinthetailwheretherudderhinge
needstobewithanX-Actoknife.
13.Attachthetwosupportsontothefuselagewitha3mmx12mmself-
tappingscrew.Makesurethatthemetal stripisstraight.16.Next,drilla2mmholeabout1"deepat7/8" from thebottomofthe
rudder.Theholeshouldbestraightinfrom thefront edge.
14. Position the supportsstraightout(90') to the fuselage. Markwhere
thesupportstouchthehorizontalstabilizer,drilla2mmholeoneach
sideatthemarks.Next,cut 1/8"offoftwo brasssleeves. Finally,
attachthesupportsas showninthedrawingabove.
17.Notch a small groove (1/8" deep)from theholedownto thebottom
forthetailcontrolarm.

18.Placea smallamountof epoxyonthe hinges,inthe groove, andon
theendof thetailcontrol arm. (It isa good ideato placesome
petroleum jelly onto thehingecenterjoint(pointof movement) to
keep out anyepoxy.
1.Glue(usingPlastiZap)therectangularmounting platestotherudder
sothattheyarecentered, oneoneach side,overthetailcontrolarm
thatis"inside"therudder.
19.Carefully postionthetailcontrol rod intotheholeandthegroove.
Wipeoffanyexcessepoxyandthen insert thehingesinto the slots.
Wipeoff any excess epoxy from thehingesandcheck for free
operation. Letcure.
2.UsingPlastiZap again, glue theangled mounting plates, one on
eachside,onthetwoelevatorhalvesasshown.
