4 Itisextremelyimportanttomakesurethatthegyrosarecompensatinginthecorrectdirectionafter
installation,otherwiseitcouldleadtolosingcontrolorevencrashduringflight!
5 SuchfunctionsasEndPoint,D/RorEXPoftheradiosystemcanbeusedasusualaccordingtoyour
preferences.Butpleaseletthemstayatdefaultduringinstallation.
6 Alwaysdisableanymixingfunctionsfordeltawingorvtailinyourradiosystem,thesewillbedoneby
A3Super.
7 Followingthesuggestionsonyourfirstflight:Switchtonormalstabilizationmode,setallthegyrogainto
alowervolume(about30%),orturnoffthegyrocompletely.Adjustthetrimmingbuttonsonthetransmitterto
findaappropriatezerooffsetforallsurfacesduringtheflight,thenrestartitorperformastickcenteringto
makethecontrollerrelearnthecurrentcenterpositions.Usuallyyoujustneedasmallgainsettingswhen
operatingitinselfbalancemode,alargegainmayprobablymaketheplanedifficulttocontrol.Wewould
stronglyrecommendthatyouusetheremotemastergaincontroltomakeitmuchmoreconvenientforgain
adjustingduringtheflight.

1.Introduction
A3SuperisthelatestRCflightcontrolsystemofEAGLE’sA3Series.Itisdesignedespeciallyforfixedwing.
With an integratedbuiltinhighprecision6axis(3gyro+3acc)MEMSsensorandadvancedattitudeandPID
control algorithm, the controller can accurately detect the angular velocity and attitude of the plane and issue
commandstoallservos,whichenablesthebalanceandstabilitythroughouttheflight.A3Superprovidesfeatures
ofdeltawing(flyingwing),vtail,remotemastergainadjustmentandseparatedualaileronandelevatorcontrol.
ItcanbeusedinnearlyanytypeofRCplanes.
A3 Super offers four flight modes, including Normal Stabilization Mode, 3D Attitude Locking Mode,
Selfbalance Modeand Gyro Deactivated Mode. It also provides three kinds of control behavior including
StableMode,NormalModeandSportModetomeettheneedofvarioususer’srequirement.
We also provide you a program card. Without connecting to a PC, you can easily setup all the functions and

4.PackageContents
5.Installation
Thecontrollermustbemountedontheplatformoftheairframebyusingoneoftheprovideddoublesidedtapes.
Itcanbeattachedflatorupright,andevenupsidedownundertheplane.Youjustneedtomakesurethe
longer side of the unit is along with the heading direction, the side of pins can be puteitherforwards or
backwards.Theillustrationshowsyou4differentmountorientations.Afterinstallation,remembertochoosethe
correctsettingintheprogramcardor PCconfigtool. Asthecontrollerisdesignedforbalancing,pleasemake
surethatthemountingplatformshouldbeparalleltothehorizonandlocatethecontrollerasclosetotheCGas
possible.Inordertooffsetthedeviationofinstallationyouneedtoperformalevelcalibrationafterinstallation.

6.ConnectionCase
6.1.Description
AstherearemanydifferentwayswhileconnectingbetweenA3Superandthereceiversincever.2.x,hereweneed
totakeanexampletogiveyouabetterunderstandingaboutit.Let'sassumethattheplanehastwoaileronservos
and one elevator servo, which is the most common application. And you are going to enable both features of
remotemastergainandflightmodeswitchduringtheflight.Insuchcase,AUXMode3shouldbeusedforthe
controllerandyouneeda7channelreceiveratleast,forexampleFUTABA'sR6008HS.
6.2.AUXMode
Ver.2.1provides4functionalcombinationsforthesecondgroupofinputpins,includingAUXMode1,Mode2,
Mode3 and Mode4. These 3 pins can be used as AIL2, ELE2, Flight Mode (FMOD) or Master Gain Control
(GAIN)asthechartbelowshows.Inthiscase,wechooseAUXmode3.

6.3.TransmitterPreparing
Create a new model and setthe model type asfixedwingwith2AIL+1ELEin your transmitter.Verifythatall
trimmingbuttonsandsubtrimsaresetto0%.Disableanymixingfunctionsfordeltawingorvtailinyourradio
system,thesewillbedonebyA3Super.LetothersettingsstayatdefaultthismomentsuchasServoTravel(End
Point), Dual Rate and EXP etc. They can be adjusted as usual after installation. Make a channel mapping
accordingtothetablebelow:

Aileron ElevatorThrottle Rudder FlightMode Aileron2 MasterGain
A 3positionswitch(SE)isassignedtochannel5forflightmodeswitching,whichisimplementedbyusingthe
GEAR function in the radio system. A knob (RD) is assigned to channel7 for the adjustment of master gain,
surelyyoumightusea3positionswitchinsteadtogeta3levelgaincontrolifyoulike.
6.4.Wiring
Connectalltherequiredchannelsbetweenthecontrollerandthereceiver,usingtheincludedplain3wirecables,
which have only onelead ofthecontrolsignal onthereceiver side, andare connectedtothe controller onthe
combinedconnector.Thecontrollerrequiresatleast3receiverchannels,upto7channels.ThechannelsofAIL,
ELEandRUDmustbeconnectedallthetimeotherwisethecontrollerwillnotwork.Theother3pinsshouldbe
connectedaccordingtotheAUXmodecurrentlyselected.ThethrottleservoorESCisconnectedasnormaltothe
throttlechannelofthereceiver withoutbridgingthecontroller.Theillustrationbelowshowsthewiringmethod
onlyforAUXMode3,whichisusedinthiscase.

6.5.PowerSupply
Thecontrollerispoweredthroughthe[BATT]pins.Toachieveit,youcanconnectitdirectlytoanyidlechannel
ofthereceiverusingtheincluded3wirereceivercable,ortoanindependentBEC.Thevoltagerangeis5to6V.If
aBECisusedasthepowersupply,pleasemakesurethatthevoltagenotexceedingtheworkingvoltagepermitof
your servos, and verify that the BEC have sufficient capacity to provide working current for all the electronic
devicesontheplaneespeciallywhenusingseveralhightorqueservos.
6.6.FlightModeChannel(FMOD)
[FMOD]isusedforswitchingtheflightmode.Wehaveassigneda3positionswitchtoitasmentionedabove.
Theexpectedflightmodecanbepresetinthefunction"FlightMode"oftheprogramcardorconfigtool.System
will default to the mode which assigned to position1 if you leave this pin unconnected. Even so, it is
recommendedthat you always usean
independent channel to switch the
modeinflight.
6.7.MasterGainControlChannel(GAIN)
[GAIN]isusedtocontrolthemastergainremotely.Inthiscase,weuseaknob(RD)tomakealinearadjustment
of the gain. Surely a 3position switch can be used instead to get a 3level gain control.. Once connected, the
master gain will be controlled bythe transmitterdirectly. Only when the pin is disabled or unconnected, the
mastergaincanbemodifiedviatheprogramcardorconfigtool.
6.8.DualAileron&DualElevator
AtruedualaileronandelevatorsystemisavailablenowonA3Super,theOUT4isforthe2ndaileronservoand
the OUT5 is for the 2nd elevator servo. Mostly we use two aileron servos with single aileron input, in this
condition,youjustneedtoplugthetwoaileronservosintoOUT1andOUT4respectively.TheOUT4willbecome
a mirrorofOUT1bythesoftwareautomatically, which canavoidthehassleusingaYextensioncable.Thisis
verysimilarinconnectingthedualelevator.
The dual channelsshare thesamesettings,suchas servo limits, gyro directionandgainsettingandso on.For
example,ifyousettheservolimitsofaileronchannelto ±80%,themaximumtravelofbothaileronservoswill
be ±80%.
Usuallythe2servosshouldbeinstalledsymmetricallyonthebothsideofthewing,butyoucanmakethem
inanopposite directionifyoulike. The separate gyroreversingfor AIL2andELE2 will helpyougetthe
correctresult.

6.9.WingType&Mixing
A3Superhasalreadybuiltinsuchmixingfunctionsasdeltawing(flyingwing)andvtail.Whenoperatingitin
suchmodes,thecorrespondingmixingmustbedisabledwithinyourtransmitter.Allyouneedistosetyourradio
toasingle4channelfixedwingmode.Connecttheservosbyfollowingtheillustrationshown.

7.BrownoutFastRecovery
TherecommendedoperatingvoltageofA3Superis5~6V.Thecontrollerwillperformaprotectiveresetwhenan
unforeseenpowerfailureoccurssuchasavoltagedrop(<2.7V)orinterruptionoftheBEC.Itwilltakeseveral
secondsinnormalstartupprocessbecauseoftheselftestandgyrocalibration,whichwillbeunacceptableduring
flight.Thisfunctionisusedtohandlesuchemergencysituations.Whenanunexpectedreboothappens,the
controllerwillperformafaststartupandresumeworkingveryquicklybyskippingtheselftestandgyro
calibrationtoensurethesafetyofyourplane.Butevenso,themostimportantissueisthatyoushouldalways
chooseareliableBECforyourplane!

9.StartUpSteps
Toachievethebestperformance,pleasefollowthestepsbelowbeforeeveryflight:
Step1 Turnonthetransmitter.
Step2 A3Superneedstoperformahorizontalcalibrationduringinitialization,beforepoweron,placethe
planeonastableplatformandkeepitinthehorizontalstate.Don'ttakeitinyourhandtopoweron!Theplane
shouldbeplacedfaceupwhateverthemountingwayis,oritmaynotinitializeproperlyorevenresultina
completefailure.SinceVer.2.6thecontrollerwillperformastickcenteringautomaticallyafterpoweron,
pleasekeepallsticks(throttleexcept)inthemiddlepositionbeforepluggingthebattery.
Step3 Powerontheplane,theLEDwillturnWHITEforabout2secondsthenbegintoflashrapidly
(about3seconds),whichmeansthecontrollerisinitializing,don’tmovetheplaneuntilinitializationisdone.
AftersuccessfulinitializationtheLEDwillflashWHITEonce.IftheLEDkeepsflashingREDrapidly,youhave
tocutoffthepowerandretry.ThentheLEDwillbegintoflashGREENrapidly(about0.5second)which
meansthestickcenteringisbeingperforming,don’tmovethesticksuntilthecalibrationisdone.
Step4 Afterinitialization,thecoloroftheLEDwillshowyouthatwhichflightmodeiscurrentlyselected.
Don'tforgettomovethesticksandcheckiftheservosmoveinthecorrectdirectionbeforeeveryflight.

10.PCConfigTool

11.ProgramCard
Allfunctionsandparameterscanbesetupbytheprogramcard.
Whenthecontrollershowsthesystemisready,plugthecardinto
theDATAportonthecontrollerusingtheincludedblackdata
cable.Onceconnected,thecardwillbeonandstarttoreadthe
datafromthecontroller.Theadjustmentthroughthecardwill
takeeffectimmediatelywithoutafinalconfirmation.Youcanexit
thesetupmodebysimplypullingoutthecable.
11.1.Buttons
UP/+ Scrollupthemenuorincreasethevalue.
DN/ Scrolldownthemenuordecreasethevalue.
ESC Exitwithoutsavingthemodifiedandreturntothemenu.
ENT Enterthefunctionorsavethevalue,holditover2secondstorestoretothedefaultsetting.
11.2.DeviceConnection
After connected, the card will begin initializing and display: Connecting... When data
loading completes, the main menu willbeshown. Press the ESCbutton toreloadagain
wheninthemainmenu.Afterreloading,thecurrentdatawillbeoverwritten.
11.3.LanguageSelection
TheprogramcardsupportsbothSimplifiedChineseandEnglish.Youcanselectsuitable
language through the menu "System Menu > 语言/Language", or press and hold the
buttonwhileconnectingthecardtothedeviceuntilthelanguageselectiondialogshows.

11.4.SettingMethods
11.4.1.MenuOperation
By pressing the UP/+ or DN/ buttons, you can select the different functions within a
menu.PresstheENTbuttontoentertheselecteditem.Whenasecondlevelmenuexists,
thesymbol">"willappearontherightofthecorrespondingitems.
11.4.2.OptionSelection
Forexample,whenyouareinthefunction"WingType".PresstheUP/+orDN/buttonto
switchtothedifferentoption.PresstheENTbuttontosavechangesorESCtocancel.The
unconfirmeditemwillkeepflashinguntiltheENTbuttonispressed.
11.4.3.ValueAdjustment
Forexample,whenyouareinthefunction"NormalGain".PresstheUP/+orDN/button
to select the channel, press ENT button to enter edit mode. In edit mode, the value will
keep flashing,youcanincreaseor decreasethevalue by pressingUP/+or DN/buttons,
presstheENT button tosave changes orESCtocancel. Pressandhold theENT button
over2secondscanrestorethedefaultsettingswhenineditmode.
12.Functions
12.1.FlightMode
Itisusedtopresettheflightmodeforthe3positionswitch.
Normal Stabilization Mode (NORM) The most basic function of the gyroscope. In
thismode,thegyroscopewillsenserollvelocityandmakeamomentarycompensationfor
eachaxis,whichimprovesthestabilityduringflight.
3DAttitudeLockingMode(3DAL) AlsocalledAVCSMode,itisdesignedespeciallyfor3Dflight.Withthe
activeangularvelocitycontrolalgorithm,theplanewilltrytolockitsattitudewhenthereisnocommandsentby
theradioduringflight.
SelfbalanceMode(SBAL) SuitableforthejuniorplayersortheFPVapplication.Inthismode,thecontroller
willcommandtheplanetomaintainlevelflightautomaticallywhenyou'rereleasingthesticks.
GyroDeactivated Mode (DACT) Choose this mode to disablethe gyrosof all channels, the planewillbe
completelyunderthecontroloftheradio.

Thisfunctionisusedtosetthegyrogain
of aileron, elevator and rudder for each
flight mode. The gain can be set from

thegain,themorestabletheplane.Thegainisaffectedbymanyfactorsthereisnostandardanswertothathow
muchitshouldbe.You needtofinetunecarefullytoget thebest result. The planewillbecome vibrativeifthe
gainistoo large, you'dbetterstart withalower volumefor your first flightandthenincreaseit gradually. The
functionofremotemastergainwillmakeitmuchmoreconvenientforchangingthegainduringflight.
12.4.3.GainRatio
In orderto meet moreneeds,A3Super provides3levelgain ratioforeachflight mode.
The ratio can be selected between Small (S), Medium (M) and Large (L), default is
Medium which will be suitable for most planes.Youcanchoose a largerlevelwhenthe
current gain is still not large enough, even when it has been set to the maximum. But
rememberthatalwaysuseassmallratioaspossibletoimprovetheprecisionofgainadjustment.
12.5.MountOrientation
AsmentionedinP4"5.Installation",youhavetochoosethecorrectmountorientationhere
afterinstallation.Theunitcanbeattachedflatorupright,andevenupsidedownunderthe
plane.Youjust needto makesurethe longer side ofthe unit is along with the heading
direction,thesideofpinscanbeputeitherforwardsorbackwards.Incorrectsettingwill
resultinanunexpectedfailure.

12.6.ServoLimits
This function is used to set the mechanical limits for aileron, elevator and rudder servos. The max limit is
determined by the maximum possible control travel of the mechanism. The limits can be set between 0100%
corresponding to the pwm pulse length from 1020 to 2020μs. The default setting is 100%. When adjusting,
switch the controller to the 3D flight mode first, move the
stickstooneside,theservowillmovetothesetlimit,increase
or decrease the value until no binding occurs by using the
programcardorPCtool.Alwaystrytoachievethemaximum
possibletravellimittoobtainthebestperformance.
12.7.GyroOnoff
Itisusedtoturnonoroffthegyroforeachchannel.WhensettoOFF,allgyrofunctions
forthecorrespondingchannelwillbedisabledwhatevertheflightmodeis.
12.8.GyroDirection
It is extremely important to make sure that the gyros of all channels are
compensatinginthecorrectdirection beforeflight,otherwiseitcouldleadtolosing
control or even crash during flight! To performthe examination, power onthe plane,
pickitupandcheckitbyfollowingtheillustrationsbelow.Turn it to REV(Reversed)if
thegyrocompensatesinaincorrectdirection.
ThegyrodirectionsofAileron2andElevator2canbesetseparatelyfromVer.2.1!
AILERON Quicklymovetherightwingdownwardaroundtherollaxis.Therightaileronshouldflapdown
andtheleftaileronflapupasshown.
ELEVATOR Quicklymovethenoseoftheplanedownwardaroundthepitchaxis.Theelevatorshouldflap
upasshown.

RUDDERQuicklymovethenoseoftheplanetotheleftaroundtheyawaxis.Theruddershouldflapright
asshown.
12.9.ServoFrequency
A3 Super provides 5 operating frequencies for the servos
including50Hz,63Hz,83Hz,125Hzand250Hz.Analog servos
usually tolerate only 50Hz while digital servos allow usually
higherfrequencies.Butyoumayneedtocheckthemanualofthe
servos.Ifyoudon'tknowwhatthemaximumfrequencyyourservoscantolerate,pleasekeepthedefaultsetting
50Hz.Ahigherdrivingfrequencycanleadtoafailureoftheservos!
12.10.ResponseRate
A3Superprovidesfivelevelsofresponserate,thefastertherate
the moresensitivethegyro.Thedefaultsettingisacceptablefor
mostplanes.Tooptimizetheperformance,theresponserateisthe
fasterthebetter,butyouhavetodoyourbesttoreducevibration
ofyourplane.

12.11.ControlBehavior
Here you can choose three different kinds of control behavior including stable, normal

ThedeadbandistherangearoundtheverycenterofthestickatwhereA3Superwillnot
react.Sometransmittershavetheproblemthatwhenthesticksarebroughtbackafteran
input, they are not exactly at the same center position as before which may generate a
deviation on the corresponding function, although the sticks seems to be in the middle.
Theparametercanbeadjustedbetween0%and10%,thedefaultis5%.Youcansetithigherifitisdifficultto
findthestickcenterpositioneventhestickcenteringfunctionhasbeenappliedalready.
12.13.StickCentering
Stickcenteringisusedtocalibrateandrelearnthenewcenterpositionofthesticks.
Inwhatconditionsastickcenteringshouldbeperformed?
1 Firsttimeuseorafterinstallation.
2 Afterreplacinganewradiosystem.
3 Afterchangingthetrimmingbuttonsorsubtrimsettingsinthetransmitter.
Before centering,all ofthesticks(throttleexcept)shouldbe putin the middle position.While calibrating, the
LED will blink GREEN rapidly for about 0.5 second, don’t move the sticks until the calibration is done.
NEVERperformthestickcenteringinaflight,becausetheoutputsignalsthatusedtodrivetheservoswill
be stopped duringcalibrating, it’sdangerous ifyou make astickcenteringinthesky! There’re3 waysto
performastickcenteringsinceVer.2.6.Theunconnectedchannelswillberesetto1520uSinamanualcentering,
buttheywillbeignoredinthestartuporswitchtogglingcentering.
StartupAutomaticCentering
The controller will perform a stick centering automatically every time it starts, remember to keep all sticks
(throttleexcept)inthemiddlebeforepoweronanddon’tmovethemuntilthecalibrationisdone.
SwitchToggling
Youcanperformaquickcenteringbyfasttogglingtheflightmodeswitchtwiceormorewithin1second(Switch
PositionP1>P2>P3>P2>P1,twice).

YoucanalsoperformastickcenteringbyusingtheprogramcardorthePCconfigtool.

12.14.LevelOffset
Thisfunctionisusedtooffsettheabsoluteangleerrorcausedbyinstallation.Suchdeviationmayprobablymake
theplanedropdownorupwhenoperatinginselfbalancemode.Youhavetoperformaleveloffsetafter
installationtomaketheplanemaintainlevelflight.Thereare2waystoperformaleveloffset:
AutomaticCalibration
Step1 Turnonthetransmitterandpowerontheplane,waituntiltheinitializationisdone.
Step2 SwitchthecontrollertoSelfbalancemode.
Step3 Puttheplanetoitsattitudeforlevelflightontheground(Usuallytheplaneshouldbeputwitha
smallangleofattack,whichisthemostappropriateattitudeforlevelflight).Clickthe“LevelOffset>
Automatic”menuintheprogramcardorthe“AutoLevelCalibration”buttoninthePCconfigtooltostart
thecalibration.Whilecalibrating,theLEDwillkeepblinkingYELLOWrapidlyforabout3seconds,don’t
movetheplaneuntilthecalibrationisdone.Calibrationmightfailiftheangleislargerthan ±20°in
eitherrollorpitchaxis.TheLEDwillblinkREDrapidlyinthecaseofacalibrationfailure.Ifit
happens,youneedareinstallation!
Step4 It’sreadytoflyaftercalibration.
ManualOffset
Amanualoffsetallowsyoumakeafurtheradjustmentfortheinstallationdeviations.The
valuesareadjustablewithin ±20°inbothrollandpitchaxes.Pleasenotethatthereis
nodirectlinkbetweentherealmovingdirectionoftheservosandthepositiveor
negativesignofthevalues,becauseitdependsonwhichinstallationorientationor
gyrodirectionyouareusing.Forexample,iftheplanekeepsdroppingdowninselfbalancemodebefore
offsetting,youmightincreaseordecreasethevalueforpitchaxistomaketheelevatorsurfacealittleupperthan
before,untilyougetacorrectlevelflight.Foreaseofobservation,youmightneedtotemporarilyincreasethe
gainorgainratioforselfbalancemodebeforechangingthevalues,andrestoreitafterfinishingtheadjustment.
