1General Instructions
1.1 Manufacturer and Designation
This operating manual is supplied along with the balancing ma-
chine and contains important information on how to operate the
machine correctly and how to make the best use of its features.
This manual also contains essential user information on product
liability, which is aimed at preventing injury to the operator or
damage to the measuring device.
In addition, the manual is required to be provided as a condition
for the machine to meet the EC declaration of conformity and for
it to carry the CE label.
The unbalance measuring system was built by:

The unbalance measuring system MC10 HS is the intellectual
property of Hofmann Mess- und Auswuchttechnik GmbH & Co.
KG.
All rights to the unbalance measuring system, the measuring
principle, relevant drawings etc. are the property of the manufac-
turer and are subject to the German copyright legislation "Gesetz
über Urheberrecht und verwandte Schutzrechte (UG)" of 9 Sep-
tember 1965 in its currently valid form.
According to copyright law, competition law and the German Civil
Code (BGB), reproduction is only permissible with prior written
consent.
The documents shall not be passed on to unauthorised third par-
ties for viewing.
In the case of suppliers' documentation, copyright law applies ac-
cordingly.
The regulations stated above also apply to the operator's manual.
All rights to drawings, software and other documentation as well
as all power of disposal, such as copy and distribution rights, are

2Unbalance measuring system
The unbalance measuring system MC10 HS provides the latest
touch screen technology for your application.
The operational concept allows for simple set up and operation of
your machine.
For your tasks at hand, it is the first choice for precision balancing
today and in the future.
2.1 Features
MC10 HS combines a Microsoft WINDOWS©operating system
installed on a high-quality industrial PC with a flat screen monitor
with touch screen operation.
Available features are:
Precise measuring hardware for two-plane balancing ma-
chines
Powerful MC software
- Simple and rapid operation
- Clear displays and graphics
- Virtual screen keypads
- Industrial PC with Windows operating system
USB interface
- Printer connection
- Load / save files
- Software updates
Statistical evaluation (option)
The standard measuring screen displays the following: amount
and angle of unbalance (in polar representation as well as alpha-
numeric), balancing speed, a tolerance comparison and instruc-
tions for practical unbalance compensation.

!
Do not install any additional software!
The installation of additional software can endanger the functions
of the measuring device and the security of the stored data.
3.1 Installation
3.1.1 Hardware Installation
Install and position operating console and unbalance
measuring system.
Install electrical connections as shown in the electric circuit
diagram.
3.1.2 Software Installation
The MC software is factory installed on the measuring computer.
3.1.3 Software Update Installation
Software updates are installed by Hofmann service personnel.
3.1.4 Software Re-installation
Software is re-installed by Hofmann service personnel.
3.2 System Maintenance
INFORMATION
If the machine is operated around the clock, the unbalance meas-
uring system should be shut down and restarted at least once a
week, to free the memory of temporary Windows files.
Please note access privileges.
At least once a week:
Shut down unbalance measuring system.

4Basic Operation
To work with the program, you should be familiar with
the Windows environment. For questions regarding
menu commands, dialogue boxes, scroll bars or oth-
er elements of the user interface, please read the
Windows literature.
ATTENTION
!
Do not make any changes to the Windows©Desktop.
This includes changes to the background, the screen
saver and the power management, as well as the rep-
resentation and display settings.
Alterations can endanger unbalance measuring sys-
tem functions.
Description of operating sequences Operating sequences with several successive
key strokes are often shown in this manual in
the following abbreviated fashion:

has the following full meaning:
Open Main Menu, press "Machine Perfor-
mance Counters" key, press "New Shift..." key.
4.1 Operator Controls
4.1.1 Touch Screen
The screen has a touch sensitive surface. Active ar-
eas are labelled with their associated functions.
Perform any action on the screen with fingertips
or with a special touch screen pen.
ATTENTION
!
Do not use a hard object (ballpoint pen etc.). This
could damage the touch screen surface.
To carry out an action Press the appropriate key area.

To clean the touch screen
ATTENTION

Unplug power cord before cleaning device.
Also refer to separate manufacturer's operator's
manual.
ATTENTION
!
Ensure that no liquids enter through openings into the
interior of the housing while cleaning.
Only use special cleaning agents for monitors
and soft cloths or cloths for cleaning spectacle
lenses.
Wipe the touch screen surface with a lightly
soaked cloth.
Remove heavy soiling on the touch screen sur-
face using a moist cloth and a mild cleaning sol-
vent.
If required, rub dry with a soft cloth.

4.1.2 Screen Keypads
Virtual keypads appear on the screen, when text or
numbers need to be entered using your fingertip.
To enter letters / numbers etc.
Press the appropriate key area.
Confirm with "Ok" or "Close".
To switch between upper and lower case
Press the key.
To switch to different key assignment
Press the "AltGr" key.
INFORMATION
For "Setup Defaults" key refer to Abschnitt
4.7.1 Displaying Default Value.
Using keyboard to enter numbers
Press the "Ok" button.
The on-screen keyboard disappears. The cur-
sor appears in the entry field.
Enter value using keyboard.
You can now use a connected mouse.

Press keypad.
Selection is highlighted by colour.

Press down arrow.
A menu pops up. Current selection is marked.
Press desired item.

1 - Moves to first item in the list.
2 - Moves up 10 items.
3 - Moves up one item.
4 - Moves down one item.
5 - Moves down 10 items.
6 - Moves to last item in the list.

2 - Increases value by 1.

4.2 Operational Restrictions
INFORMATION
Some particular functions may be blocked for the cur-
rently selected access group (Operator, Supervisor).
The associated values and actions are greyed out.
Refer to Chapter 5.6 - Access Privileges.
4.3 Starting and Quitting the Pro-
gram
4.3.1 Starting the Program
Switch on the machine.
Windows starts up.
The MC program starts with the measuring
screen. The rotor selected prior to quitting the
program last time is active now.
4.3.2 Quitting the Program
Main Menu \ Setup MC10 \ Quit MC10.
The MC program and the Windows session are
terminated.

Press the "Main Menu" key.
