Intended use ________________________________________________________________________
The SCORPION headset is intended for comfortable voice communication in harsh and noisy environments, for situations
where safety helmets are worn, and for use with analog or digital hand-held radios. The headset can be fixed to the MSA
F2XR helmet using the helmet adapter GA3734.
It is connected to the radio either via an adapter cable with PTT button or via a remote speaker microphone with headset
jack socket.
Safety instructions ___________________________________________________________________
Please read these operating instructions carefully before using the SCORPION headset. You must also read the operating
instructions carefully for the radio set you are using.
Follow all safety instructions in these operating manuals.
Make sure that the limit values for temperature and air humidity specified under “Technical data” are not exceeded.
Warning: the headset speaker can produce high sound pressures. Please follow the guidance below to avoid hearing
damage:
Adjust the volume to its lowest level after switching on.
During prolonged use, adjust the volume so that you can still hear your own voice clearly.
Product liability______________________________________________________________________
Any repairs, modifications or spare-parts replacements (including cables and connectors) must be performed solely by MSA
Europe GmbH or by a MSA-approved repair company. Any other action shall void our warranty and liability for the product,
which shall be borne by the body initiating the action.
The headset _________________________________________________________________________
Positioning the microphone
The microphone should not be positioned directly in front of the
mouth to avoid unnaturally strong accentuation of sibilants and
plosives (sounds made by the letters “S”, “F” or “P” for instance).
Optimum positions are:
In the left corner
of the mouth
In front of the
chin
In the right corner
of the mouth
Gooseneck
The gooseneck lets you adjust the microphone easily
to the optimum position.
Please note:
Never bend the gooseneck into a sharp angle.
The bend radius must never be less than 30 mm.
Otherwise the tube may break during frequent use.

Speaking direction and distance for the microphone
The microphone is directional so that it can suppress ambient noise
(i.e. noise cancellation). Therefore please make sure that the front of
the microphone, identified by the marker, always faces your mouth or
the speech diaphragm.
For optimum speech transmission, keep the
microphone at a distance of 2 to 4 cm from
your mouth; this is known as close-talking.
Quick-release safety connector
The quick-release safety connector prevents strangulation of the user
should the cable get caught on an obstruction. It self-releases
automatically when the tension reaches a preset value.
Installation and removal______________________________________________________________
Attach the headset to your helmet, following the fitting instructions below. Put on the headset together with the helmet.
Check that the radio set is switched off and the volume set to minimum. Then plug the headset into the designated jack
socket on the push-to-talk unit or remote speaker mic. Then switch on the radio set and check the receive volume. For
further guidance, please refer to the operating instructions for the radio set.
Line up the adapter
Press the release button (A).
Line up the adapter (B) so that the screw hole
(C) sits under the recess.
Fasten the SCORPION to the adapter
Use the two screws to fasten the adapter (A) to the SCORPION (B).
Big screw (M4)
Tool: Allen key 2.5 mm / Tightening torque: 40 cNm
Small screw (M2.5)
Tool: screwdriver PZD 1 / Tightening torque: 16 cNm
Select the helmet side
The SCORPION can be worn on the left or right
side of the helmet.
To change the side, press the release button (A)
and swivel round the moving part (B) of the
adapter together with the SCORPION.
Fasten the adapter to the helmet
Insert the adapter into the accessory pocket (A) of the helmet until it
engages.
To remove the adapter from the helmet
Press the release button (A) on the inside of the helmet and push the
adapter (B) out of its pocket.
Troubleshooting _____________________________________________________________________
In the event of a fault, check the plug-in connections between the radio set and headset.
If this does not correct the fault, please send the headset to MSA Europe GmbH or to a MSA-approved repair company. If
the radio set experiences a fault, please follow the guidance in the operating instructions for the radio set.
Cleaning ____________________________________________________________________________
Wipe parts with a lightly moistened, lint-free cloth; then wipe dry thoroughly with a dry cloth.
Always use only clean water as the cleaning fluid; if necessary add a small amount of mild detergent (e.g. washing-up
liquid). Never use organic solvents such as white spirit, gasoline or similar chemicals. Do not immerse components in water.
Disposal_______________________________
When the equipment is finally taken out of service,
please take it to a local recycling facility.

Verwendung ________________________________________________________________________
Die Hörsprechgarnitur SCORPION ist vorgesehen für die komfortable Sprachkommunikation in rauer und geräuschge-
störter Umgebung, beim Tragen von Schutzhelmen, bei Verwendung analoger oder digitaler Handsprechfunkgeräte.
Die Garnitur kann am MSA F2XR Helm mit dem Helmadapter GA3734 befestigt werden.
Der Anschluss ans Funkgerät erfolgt entweder über ein Adapterkabel mit Sendetaste oder über einen Mikrofon-
Lautsprecher mit Headsetbuchse.

Lesen Sie vor Gebrauch der Hörsprechgarnitur SCORPION diese Betriebsanleitung aufmerksam durch. Das gilt auch für die
Bedienungsanleitung des verwendeten Funkgeräts.
Beachten Sie alle Sicherheitshinweise, die in diesen Anleitungen gegeben werden.
Stellen Sie sicher, dass die unter "Technische Daten" angegebenen Grenzwerte für Temperatur und Luftfeuchtigkeit nicht
überschritten werden.
Warnung: Der Lautsprecher der Garnitur kann hohe Schalldrücke erzeugen. Zur Vermeidung von Gehörschäden bitte
beachten:
Beim Einschalten Lautstärkeregler auf Minimum stellen.
Bei Dauerbetrieb Lautstärkeregler so einstellen, dass die eigene Stimme noch gut zu hören ist.

Positionierung des Mikrofons
Zur Vermeidung einer unnatürlich starken Betonung von Zisch- und
Explosivlauten (wie „S“, „F“ oder „P“) sollte das Mikrofon nicht
unmittelbar vor dem Mund platziert werden. Optimale Positionen sind:

Schwanenhals
Der Schwanenhals ermöglicht die einfache
Einstellung der optimalen Mikrofonposition.
Achtung:
Den Schwanenhals nicht scharf abknicken!
Ein Biegeradius von 30 mm darf nicht
unterschritten werden. Andernfalls kann das
Rohr bei häufigem Gebrauch brechen.

Einspracherichtung und Besprechungsabstand des Mikrofons
Das Mikrofon hat eine Richtwirkung, um Störgeräusche aus der
Umwelt zu unterdrücken (sog. Geräuschkompensation). Deshalb
bitte beachten, dass immer die markierte Vorderseite des Mikrofons
zum Mund oder zur Sprechmembran zeigen muss!
Für eine optimale Sprachübertragung ist ein
Abstand von 2 bis 4 cm zwischen Mikrofon
und Mund einzuhalten –sog.
Nahbesprechung.
Sicherheits-Trennkupplung
Die Sicherheits-Trennkupplung verhindert eine Strangulation des Nutzers
beim Hängenbleiben des Kabels an einem Hindernis. Sie entriegelt sich
selbsttätig beim Erreichen einer vorgegebenen Zugkraft.
Montage und Demontage ____________________________________________________________
Befestigen Sie die Hörsprechgarnitur am Helm, wie in der nachfolgenden Montageanleitung beschrieben. Setzen Sie die
Hörsprechgarnitur zusammen mit dem Helm auf. Kontrollieren Sie, ob das Funkgerät ausgeschaltet und die Lautstärke auf
Minimum zurückgestellt ist. Verbinden Sie dann die Hörsprechgarnitur mit der dafür vorgesehenen Steckbuchse an
Sendetaste bzw. Mikrofon-Lautsprecher. Schalten Sie nun das Funkgerät ein und überprüfen Sie die Empfangslautstärke.
Zum weiteren Betrieb folgen Sie der Bedienungsanleitung des Funkgeräts.

Trageseite einstellen
Der SCORPION kann wahlweise links
oder rechts am Helm getragen werden.
Zum Verstellen die Entriegelungstaste (A)
drücken und den beweglichen Teil des
Adapters mit dem SCORPION
herumschwenken (B).
Adapter am Helm befestigen
Adapter in den Zubehörschlitz (A) des Helmes stecken bis er einrastet.
Zum Entfernen des Adapter
Die Entriegelung (A) im Inneren des Helmes drücken und den Adapter aus
dem Zubehörschlitz nach oben schieben.
Störungsbeseitigung _________________________________________________________________
Im Störungsfall die Steckverbindungen zwischen Funkgerät und Hörsprechgarnitur überprüfen.
Sollte die Störung weiterhin bestehen, senden Sie bitte die Helmgarnitur an die MSA Europe GmbH oder eine von MSA
autorisierte Werkstatt. Für Störungen am Funkgerät folgen Sie bitte den Hinweisen in dessen Bedienungsanleitung.
Reinigung ___________________________________________________________________________
Teile mit einem leicht angefeuchteten, fusselfreien Tuch abwischen, anschließend gut trocken reiben.
Als Reinigungsflüssigkeit darf nur klares Wasser verwendet werden, dem bei Bedarf geringe Mengen eines milden
Reinigers (z. B. Geschirrspülmittel) zugesetzt werden können. Keinesfalls ist die Benutzung organischer Lösungsmittel, wie
Spiritus, Benzin o. ä. zulässig. Bauteile nicht in Wasser tauchen!
Entsorgung____________________________
Wenn das Gerät endgültig außer Betrieb
genommen wird, übergeben Sie es bitte einem
örtlichen Recyclingbetrieb.
