Open the Box and Check Contents
You must transport the satellite terminal to the final
installation site packed in its shipping box to avoid damage.
Failure to transport the terminal properly may invalidate any
warranty claims.
Retain all shipping materials until the terminal is installed and
working correctly.
The TAM-412 and TAM-442 ship with these items in the box:
•The TAM-412 or TAM-442 Satellite Terminal
•Tw o key s
•Documentation (this quick start guide and compliance
information)
After you remove the satellite terminal from the shipping box,
record the Inmarsat Serial Number (ISN) and serial numbers
located on the label on the base of the terminal. You will need
this information to complete the activation form.

TAM-412 Satellite Terminal
The only difference between the TAM-412 and the TAM-442
is that the TAM-442 is rechargeable. The TAM-412 has one
Operating Status LED. The TAM-442 has two LEDs: a
Charging Status LED and an Operating Status LED.

Charge the Terminal
If you have a TAM-442 Satellite Terminal, you can charge the
battery with the single mains charger accessory or from the
vehicle power supply. See the user manual for information on
the available charging accessories.
Either charging method takes at least 7 hours to fully charge
the battery. You can charge the terminal from a power source
ranging from 9.6 V to 30 V, limited to 2 A.
1Connect the TAM-442 to either the single mains charger
or to the vehicle charging cable.
2Charge for at least 7 hours to make sure you have a fully
charged battery. The Charging Status LED will turn green.
Note: The TAM-442 terminal needs to be charged before
installation.
Charging Status LED Description
Orange Battery is charging.
Green Charging is complete.
Red Battery is not charging due to a fault
or it is outside charging temperature
range.

How to Activate and Register the
Terminal
There are two ways to activate and register the TAM-401
Series satellite terminal.
You can activate and register the terminal with:
•An ASP Gateway
•Viewpoint
Activate and Register the Terminal on an
ASP Gateway
Before you can use the TAM-401 Series satellite terminal,
you need to make sure that it is activated with Airtime and
registered on an ASP Gateway.
Make sure that Honeywell Global Tracking receives the
Airtime activation directly or through your equipment supplier.
1Complete the airtime activation form. This form is
available from your Account Manager. Send the
completed form to:
2Follow the instructions supplied by your application
provider.
Activate and Register the Terminal with
ViewPoint
Before you can use the TAM-401 Series satellite terminal,
you need to activate the terminal with Global Tracking and
register the terminal in ViewPoint.
1Complete the airtime activation form. This form is
available from your Account Manager. Send the
completed form to:
2If you do not have a ViewPoint account, go to
beta.gt.honeywell.com/tam401 and click the Register
link.

3Complete the online registration form and click Register.
An activation email will be sent to the email address you
provided.
4Click the link in the email to complete the Registration
Handshake process. The Login page appears.

5Type your Username and Password.
6Click Secure Login.
Once your terminal is activated with airtime, you can add it to
ViewPoint.
Note: Your email address is also your username.
Note: If you do not click the link in the email, you will need
to request another activation email by clicking the Reset
Password button on the Login page.

Add the Terminal to ViewPoint Fleet
After you have activated your terminal and registered it in
ViewPoint, you need to add it to your ViewPoint Fleet.
1Make sure that the terminal is activated with airtime.
2Click Add Terminal. The Add Terminal dialog box
appears.
3Type the ISN and Terminal serial number.
4Type a new Fleet Name.
5Click Add Terminal.
6When prompted, select your terminal from the drop-down
menu.
7Click Confirm.
Add Additional Terminals to ViewPoint
1Make sure that the terminal is activated with airtime.
2From the menu at the top of the page, click Terminals.
3Click Add Terminal.

4Type the ISN and serial number.
5(Optional) Type in a name for the unit.
6Add the terminal to an existing fleet or create a new fleet.
7Click Add Terminal.
8From the drop-down menu, select the type of terminal you
are adding.
9Click Confirm.

satellite terminal within the ViewPoint environment, see the
ViewPoint User Manual available from the Help menu.
Turn on the Terminal and Connect
The terminal ships with the key switch turned off to preserve
battery life. We recommend that you turn on the satellite
terminal before you connect it to ViewPoint.
1Place the terminal on a flat surface with a clear sky view.
2Insert the key and turn the key switch to the on position
(horizontal).
The Operating Status LED flashes until a position report
has been sent or it has timed out. This function typically
takes around 30 seconds, but it can take up to 10
minutes.

Install the Accessories
All of the accessories connect to the TAM-401 Series
terminal in the same way. For more information on set up and

1Line up the keys on the male and female connector.
2Push the two connectors together while simultaneously
twisting the barrel of the female connector clockwise for
1/4 of a turn.
