Automatic “shut off”
Wh n th r cov ry tank (low r tank)
is full, th automatic shutoff m cha-
nism will shut off th cl an r suction (suc-
tion will be noticeably reduced).
At that tim th r d or y llow float disk
will ris to th top of th r cov ry tank
lid (C). Th cl an r will no long r pick
up dirty solution and th motor sound
will become noticeably higher in
pitch.
When this happens, turn cleaner off
and empty recovery tank b for con-
tinuing us .

CAUTION: Detergents contain
Anionic and Nonionic Surfactants.
Avoid contact with eyes and skin. In
case of contact with eyes, flush with
cold water for 15 minutes. In case of
contact with skin, wash with water. If
Irritation persists, call a physician.
Pour detergent into tank. Fill
tank to fill line (C) (3.78 l) with
hot tap water.

How to empty
Turn cleaner off and unplug from elec-
trical socket.
To pr v nt possibl l aking, r mov
cl an solution tank (Fig. 23) by pr ssing
down on tank handl and pulling for-
ward; s t tank asid (do not set tank
on furniture).
For heavy traffic areas:
Pre-treat with HOOVER PreCleaner
Spray.
If you do not have access to the
PreCleaner Spray, double the amount
of HOOVER Detergent (use 2 capfuls
or 300 ml per 3.78 l tank).

The lid replaces in a hinge-like
manner. Position th front of lid
und r tabs (D) on front of tank. Rotat
lid down onto tank. Make sure that the
lid is secure on all sides before plac-
ing tank on cleaner.
For full suction, it is important
that the recovery tank lid is prop-
erly secured before cleaning.

How to clean
Before you begin
cleaning
a. Vacuum thoroughly - For carp t,
us a vacuum cl an r with an agitator
for b st r sults. Vacuum upholst ry with
a vacuum cl an r with cl aning tool
attachm nts. Us a cr vic tool to r ach
into tufts and folds. Do not use the
cleaner as a dry vacuum cleaner.
b. For upholstery cleaning - Ensur
that your upholst ry mat rial can b
cl an d with a wat r bas d cl aning
ag nt. Important: This appliance must
not be used on materials which
require dry cleaning.
c. Test for colourfastness - Mix d t rg nt
and wat r according to th instructions
und r “Fill cl an solution tank” on pag s 7
and 8. W t a whit absorb nt cloth with th
solution. In a small, hidd n ar a, g ntly rub
th surfac with th damp n d cloth. Wait
t n minut s and ch ck for colour r moval or
bl d with whit pap r tow l or cloth. If sur-
fac has mor than on colour, ch ck all
colours.
d. When cleaning entire floor, move
furniture out of area to be cleaned
(may not b n c ssary if only high traffic
ar as ar to b cl an d). For furnitur
too h avy to mov , plac aluminum foil
or wax pap r und r l gs. This will pr -
v nt wood finish s from staining carp t.
Pin up furnitur skirts and drap ri s.
e. Pretreat spots and heavy traffic
areas with HOOVER PreCleaner*-
T st Pr Cl an r for colourfastn ss by first
spraying it on a hidd n ar a; wait t n
minut s and blot with whit pap r tow ls
or cloth.
If no colour chang is visibl , spray
Pr Cl an r onto spots and traffic ar as. Wait
at l ast t n minut s. Us your Brush ‘N’
Wash cl an r to pick up Pr Cl an r and
spot. R p at until spot is r mov d; car fully
scrub with a hous hold scrub brush if
n c ssary. Do not saturate carp t or uphol-
st ry with Pr Cl an r.
If you do not have access to the
PreCleaner Spray, double the amount
of HOOVER Detergent (use 2 capfuls
or 300 ml per 3.78 l) in the clean solu-
tion tank.

Picking up spills
Your Brush ‘N’ Wash cl an r may also
b us d to pick up small liquid spills
(3.78 l or less, never to exceed 6 mm
in depth) on carp t, upholst ry, or bar
floors.
For b st r sults, pick up spills imm di-
at ly by placing th stair/upholst ry noz-
zl just abov th spill and suction up
any r sidu on top of th carp t. If th
spill r mains, plac ith r th stair/
upholst ry nozzl or floor nozzl with
brushes turned OFF in front of th spill.
Pull th nozzl v ry slowly ov r th spill
initially with suction only. R p at with spray
and suction.
When picking up spills on bare floors,
use only the floor nozzle with the bare
floor attachment (availabl at additional
cost if not includ d with your cl an r) in
place and speed selector in the OFF
position (this will h lp pr v nt spr ading
th spill).
If a stain is l ft, th stair/upholst ry nozzl is
g n rally mor ff ctiv for r moving it.
Although no cl aning solution can com-
pl t ly r mov all stains, th y can b tr at-
d by following th instructions provid d by
th manufactur r of th carp t, upholst ry,
or bar floor surfac b ing cl an d.
Do not use the cleaner to pick up flam-
mable or combustible liquids or chemi-
cals.
Wh n finish d, follow “Aft r cl aning”
instructions on pag 10.

carp t is dry, us plastic or aluminum

Rinsing is not necessary for cleaning,
but it may Improv th surfac ’s app ar-
anc aft r it is dry.
If rinsing is d sir d, b car ful not to
ov r-w t th carp t or upholst ry.
Allow time for carpet or upholstery to
dry completely between cleaning and
rinsing. To rins , follow th sam proc -
dur for cl aning only using hot tap
wat r (50˚ C max) with no d t rg nt in
th upp r cl an solution tank.
c. Empty tanks, rins with cl ar wat r
and l t air dry. Rins th solution tank
cap and r cov ry tank lid and l t air dry.

instructions on page 9.
1. Fill cl an solution tank (upp r
tank) with HOOVER Carp t/
Upholst ry D t rg nt according to
instructions on pag s 7 and 8.
2. Move speed selector to LO
for gentle cleaning or Hl for
normal cleaning.
3. Dry hands and plug cord into a
properly grounded outlet.
Do not clean over floor electrical
outlets.
4. To avoid walking on damp carp t,
start at th nd of th room farth st
from th door or path to sink wh r

Note: To avoid saturating carpet,
do not use more than 4 wet
strokes over one area. Always end
with dry strokes.
