Step 1: Check Your Support Definition
The following table indicates whether you are entitled to free support
or not.
1. Preloaded software means software that is preloaded by Hewlett-Packard only. Software
preloaded by third parties or resellers is not included.

Step 2: Before You Call for Help
Go through the following checklist:
❒Check the table given in “Step 1: Check Your Support Definition” on
page 2 to see if you are entitled to free support.
❒Make sure you have your support details at hand when you call (see
below). You may also be asked for the following details:
•A list of devices that you or your reseller have added to your
computer.
•A record of any error or information messages that were
displayed.
❒Be in front of your computer when you call, with your computer
running and your manuals easily available.
Your Support Details Before registering with HP or calling for support, you must have the
following information about your computer:
❒serial number
❒product number
❒localization code
2. Preinstalled hardware means hardware that is preinstalled by Hewlett-Packard only. Hardware
preinstalled by third parties or resellers is not included. Compatibility issues related to the use
of a modem with Private Branch Exchange (PBX) equipment are not covered.
Note If your computer has a modem installed, your reseller or customer support
center may offer to connect to your computer remotely to diagnose a problem.
Please refer to “Step 5: Using Remote Support Services” on page 5 for further
details.
Your modem has been approved for the country where the computer is sold.
Importing your modem into another country is subject to specific
telecommunications regulations. HP will not support the installation of the
modem in any other country than the one originally intended for the modem.

If you have the HP Brio Center installed on your PC, you can find these
details by clicking on Fix Problems and Get Support and then Check
Your Support Details in the HP Brio Center.
Print these details out and make sure that you have them in front of
you if you call for support.
If you do not have the Brio Center, or if your PC is not working, use the
details printed on the label located on the side of the computer box.
Step 3: Register Your Computer (North America and Europe)
Registration is only required in North America and Europe. Make sure
that you register your computer within one month of purchase so that
you can benefit from the HP support options. To register your
computer, double-click the HP Brio Center icon on your desktop, then
click the Register Now! button.

If your computer has a modem that is connected to a phone line, HP
strongly recommends that you register electronically using the online
registration utility. This provides you with the customer support center
telephone number and speeds up the support process.
If you cannot start your computer, you can register your details directly
with HP by calling one of the numbers listed on page 7.
When you receive your registration program information, fill in the
support details section of the HP Brio Center.
Step 4: Contact Your Customer Support Center
The following table shows the times at which your HP Customer
Support Center is available to give advice.
Step 5: Using Remote Support Services
If your computer has communications facilities, you’ll be able to take
advantage of the Remote Support Service that is preloaded on your
Brio PC.
Using this feature, your reseller or a customer support engineer can
quickly diagnose and solve problems on your computer by directly
accessing it via the telephone line.

necessary to use this software and will advise you on how to help them.
They will always ask you for your consent before using this software.
Remote Support Limitations and Liabilities
Caution You are responsible for backing up your files. HP strongly recommend that you
do this on a regular basis. In no event will HP or its suppliers be liable for
direct, indirect, special, or consequential damages, for incidents which may
occur as a result of the Remote Support Service.
