With the new HP EliteBook 8530w and HP EliteBook 8730w Mobile Workstations,
HP introduces a highly durable form factor with workstation caliber graphics and
independent software vendor (ISV) certifications, with an even greater capacity

DREAMCOLOR DISPLAYS
HP DreamColor Technologies improve color consistency from display through
printing. DreamColor provides seamless interaction between applications and
devices to deliver precise results. It is best in class for predictable and accurate
color matching. DreamColor helps you achieve the exact color you envisioned
by more accurately matching colors to the original and producing accurate,
predictable and consistent color—every time.
ASTOUNDING GRAPHICS
With NVIDIA’s and ATI’s next-generation graphics controllers, the 8530w and
8730w deliver workstation-class graphics with up to 1 GB of dedicated memory.
When docked, take advantage of Dual Link DVI support that lets you run ultra-
high resolution monitors—including newer 30-inch diagonal, 2560 x 1600 LCD
panels—in their native resolution. HP Mobile Workstations also provide full
OpenGL and DirectX 10 support and are fully ISV-certified to provide a high
degree of reliability.
This technology leads to advanced graphics processing unit (GPU) performance;
it also provides faster transfer and manipulation of 3D textures, resulting in more
interactive visualization of large volumetric datasets.

AT THE PEAK OF HIGH DEFINITION
Develop, record, re-write and play back high-definition video, and burn up to 50 GB
of high-definition content on a single dual-layer Blu-ray disc,
17, 18 when you employ
the optional Blu-ray DVD+/RW SuperMulti DL drive. The Blu-ray format offers more
than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs, and the high-definition
multimedia interface (HDMI) connector allows you to connect to high-definition
televisions and displays with one convenient cable.

Set up a mobile workstation for enhanced stability and performance, and configure
the device to best suit your needs with this simple, Windows®-based interface that’s
unique to HP. This feature enables availability of the latest graphics cards and
drivers, and runs diagnostics of hardware and software to help the computer
balance its tasks—from high-end graphics and large applications to digesting large
volumes of data.
RAPID AND ROBUST
Handle more tasks simultaneously with the Intel®Core™2 Duo23 processor, Intel®Core™2
Extreme processor and Intel®Core™2 Quad23 processor available in HP Mobile
Workstations. A choice of two or four execution cores provides a truly powerful multi-
tasking environment, ideal for multimedia, modeling, analysis and rendering and for
running multiple computer-intensive applications all at once. With a second, separately
purchased HP Upgrade Bay hard disk drive (HDD), mobile workstations now support
RAID 0 and RAID 1.
SOLUTIONS FOR SECURITY
Sensitive information left on the hard drive when a notebook is recycled or otherwise
disposed of may pose a security threat. However, deleting data does not permanently
remove stored information. When you delete a file, its name is removed from the hard
drive directory, making the space occupied by the file available to new files. However,
until overwritten by a new file, the deleted file continues to reside on the hard drive and
may be recovered. Thus, while the conventional deletion process is fast and convenient,
it may pose a security threat.
To help counter this threat, HP has introduced File Sanitizer for HP ProtectTools, which
allows you to permanently erase individual files, folders and personally identifiable
information that could otherwise potentially be used to identify, contact, or locate you.
Files can be sanitized on command or you can use File Sanitizer to automatically
shred selected information. With file sanitization, designated files are overwritten
multiple times by meaningless data, rendering the files effectively unrecoverable.
You can also use File Sanitizer’s free space bleaching feature14 to bleach the hard
drive at scheduled intervals.

Mobile computing is a means to boost productivity. HP Mobile Workstations add features
to achieve productivity as simply as possible. The new HP QuickLook219 tool allows
you to quickly browse your e-mail, calendars and contact information with a touch
of a button, even if your workstation is turned off. That means convenient access to
critical information.
HP Mobile Broadband powered by Gobi™Technology—Gobi,
20 a universal module
that supports multiple cellular networks, brings built-in wide-area wireless broadband
connectivity to your notebook nearly every part of the world. Available on the HP
EliteBook 8530w, it allows connectivity beyond WiFi and enables you to easily switch
between carriers without additional investment in hardware or software.
Intel®Centrino®2 with vPro technology25 means users are free to focus on their work
while IT administrators are equipped to efficiently manage devices in remote and
streamlined ways. Remote manageability also lowers the total cost of operating and
makes it possible to strengthen security measures.

New features include HP DuraCase with a full
magnesium alloy chassis, a magnesium/aluminum
display enclosure bonded for solid protection, aircraft-
inspired construction with anodized aluminum surfaces
and a display latch with four-point lockdown. The HP
3D DriveGuard system protects valuable data against
operational shocks to the device, and overall reliability
is reinforced by the rigorous HP Total Test Process.
HP DURAKEYS
An innovative feature, HP DuraKeys is a clear coating
applied to the keyboard that keeps keys looking newer,
longer. According to an independent test, the printed
characters on HP DuraKeys are 50 times more resistant
to visible wear than keys without this feature. DuraFinish
adds a scratch-resistant surface coating to palm rests
and display covers.
TOUCH-SENSITIVE CONTROLS
Touch-sensitive controls give you the power to control
applications with the touch of a finger. These sleek
controls are also durable because they’re level to the
surface, moisture and particle-resistant, and have no
moving parts, which all help enhance your
notebook’s reliability.
HP 3D DRIVEGUARD
HP 3D DriveGuard instinctively helps protect your data
by parking the hard drive prior to a shock event, bump
or drop to reduce your risk of losing valuable business
information. The 3D digital accelerometer with motion
detection commands the system to temporarily shut
down and protect the hard drive in the event of impact.
HP helps protect your critical information by keeping
your hard drive parked while on the move. No other
major competitor matches the level of protection
provided by the HP solution.
HP TOTAL TEST PROCESS
Structural reliability is reinforced by a magnesium alloy
support structure, metal alloy hinges and the HP
spill-resistant keyboard, which defends against minor
accidental spills. HP Mobile Workstations also benefit
from the HP Total Test Process, a rigorous regime in
which each HP product receives 95,000 hours of
comprehensive analysis. Mechanical tests simulate
the opening and closing of a mobile workstation ten
times a day for six years (25,000 cycles), as well as
seven years of keyboard usage (10 million keystrokes).
Such a strenuous approach to testing can reduce the
issues for users in the field and give you confidence
that HP Mobile Workstations can execute a wide
range of applications and stand up to challenging
