display. (T e port’s label is colored blue to matc
t e blue mark on t e cable plug.)
Note: The display also o ers a DVI Digital Video
Input port. I your PC has a DVI digital output
port, you can connect to it by plugging a digital
video signal cable (purchased separately) into
the Digital Video Input port on the display.
5Connect t e ot er end of t e video cable into
your computer video port. If you ave an HP
Pavilion PC, t e video cable plug is color-coded
to matc t e port label on t e PC. (For ot er PCs,
c eck t e computer documentation if you’re not
sure w ere t e port is located.)

Stereo Speaker System
Built into t e base of t e display is a set of passive
Polk Audio® stereo speakers wit a Power Port for
en anced bass performance.
Note: These speakers are designed to work with sound
cards that have ampli ied sound output; most
HP Pavilion PCs have this type o sound card.
Re er to your PC speci ications or in ormation
about your sound card.

Turning t e Display On and Off
Use t e Power button on t e front of t e display to
turn t e display on and off. W en t e display is on,
t e lig t near t e Power button is illuminated. T e
lig t is green w en t e display and computer are
active and amber w en t e display is in a reduced
power mode.
If your computer supplies power save signals to t e
display, t e display’s power management features
reduce power consumption to low levels w en your
computer goes into its power-saving mode. See
“Minimizing Energy Use” on page 15 for more
information.

If your computer doesn’t use industry standard
power-save signaling tec niques, you can reduce
power consumption by turning off t e display w en
it won’t be used for an extended period. You can
turn t e display off even if you leave t e computer
running.
Warning: To completely disconnect power rom
the display, you must remove the power cord rom
the wall socket and then remove the power cable
rom the display.
Using Screen Savers
Because of t e tec nology used in LCD panels,
screen savers will not prolong t e life of your
FX75 display. If t e display will not be used for
an extended period, be sure to turn it off.
Tilting t e Display
T e display as a tilt feature t at allows you to
tilt t e display back and fort to find t e most
comfortable viewing position. To tilt t e display,
grasp t e sides and pus t e display back or pull
it toward you until it is in t e desired position.
T e display can be tilted 35 degrees backward
and 5 degrees forward.
Note: Do not tilt the display by grasping the top edge.

Setting t e Video Mode
Since t e in erent format of t e FX75 display is
1024 pixels by 768 lines, t e display will perform
best w en your PC is set to a screen resolution of
1024 x 768. If you use a lower resolution (suc as
640 x 480), t e image is expanded to fill t e screen.
Note: The scaling mode controls how the image ills
the screen area; see “Selecting a Scaling Mode”
on page 24.
Your display supports many common video modes,
as s own in “FX75 Video Modes” on page 35. C eck
t e documentation supplied wit your computer and
video adapter to find out w ic modes t ey support.
To set t e video mode in Microsoft Windows:
1Click Start on t e taskbar.
2C oose Settings and t en select Control Panel.
3Double-click t e Display icon.
4Click t e Settings tab.
5Select t e desired screen resolution in t e
Screen Area field.

Setting t e Refres Rate
T e image refresh rate is t e number of times per
second t at t e image is refres ed; it is also known
as t e vertical frequency.
On standard CRT displays, you want to use t e
ig est possible refres rate supported by your
computer at t e current screen resolution. T is is
necessary to avoid screen flickering and to minimize
eyestrain. However, wit your FX75 liquid crystal
display, flicker is not an issue. It is flicker-free at all
supported refres rates.
T e table in “FX75 Video Modes” on page 35 s ows
t e image refres rates supported by t e display
at different screen resolutions. Alt oug t e FX75
supports up to 85 Hz for analog video input, we
recommend t at you use 75 Hz refres rates for
best performance.
To set t e refres rate wit a standard Windows
installation, follow t e steps below.
Note: Some graphic drivers require di erent steps; i the
steps below are not applicable to your system,
please re er to the documentation that came with
your video card.
1Click Start on t e taskbar.
2C oose Settings and t en select Control Panel.
3Double-click t e Display icon.
4Click t e Settings tab.
5Click t e Advanced button.

Minimizing Energy Use
Many computers, including HP Pavilion PCs, support
industry standard power-save signaling tec niques.
Power management features reduce t e display’s
power consumption after a period of keyboard
inactivity.
W en t e display is in a power-saving mode, t e
screen is blank and t e power indicator is amber.
Pressing a key on t e keyboard or moving t e mouse
restores t e image in several seconds. Consult your
computer documentation for information about
setting t e power-saving modes.
Your FX75 display accepts t e signals for t e t ree
standard power-saving modes – Standby, Suspend,
and Sleep. For any of t ese conditions, t e display
will go into Sleep mode.
Caring For and
Cleaning t e Display
To maximize screen life and prevent damage to t e
liquid crystal display, HP recommends t at you:

Use t e display power management system
(if available on your computer).
N
If you don’t use a power management system,
turn off t e display w en you won’t be using it
for an extended period.

Don’t press, rub, or poke t e display wit your
finger or ot er object.

Cleaning t e Screen
Your LCD module is a ig -quality optical device
t at requires special care w en cleaning.
Warning: Don’t use liquid, aerosol, or abrasive
cleaning solutions to clean the screen.
To clean t e screen:
1S ut down t e computer.
2Turn off and unplug t e display.
3Gently dust t e screen wit a dry, soft, lint-free
clot .
Note: I the screen is still dirty, you can dampen
the cloth with several drops o distilled water.
Make sure the LCD panel is completely dry
be ore you turn the display back on.
4Plug in t e display.
5Turn on your computer and display.
