connection appropriatefor this monitor. For information on the correct power cord set to use witht

computer and its peripheral devices (such as a monitor, printer,scanner) tosome formofsurge
protection device such as apowerstripor Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS). Not all powerstrips
providesurgeprotection;thepowerstrips mustbe specificallylabeledas havingthisability.Use ap

strip whosemanufacturer offers a Damage Replacement Policyso youcan replace the equipment, if
surge protection fails.

Precautions
Use onlya power sourceand connection compatible with this monitor, as indicated onthelabel/
backplate ofthe monitor.
Be sure thetotal ampere ratingoftheproducts connected totheoutlet does notexceed thecurrent
ratingofthe electrical outlet, andthetotal ampere rating oftheproducts connected tothepower
corddoes notexceedtheratingofthepowercord.Lookon thepower labeltodeterminetheampe
re
rating(Amps or A) for eachdevice.
Install yourmonitor neara power outlet that you caneasilyreach. Disconnectthe monitor by
grasping theplugfirmlyand pullingit fromthe outlet.Never disconnect the monitor by
pulling the
cord.
Do not allowanything to rest on thepower cord. Do not walkon the cord.

Guidelines
To enhance the performance andextend the life ofthe monitor:
Do notopenthe monitor cabinet or attempt to service this product yourself.Adjust onlythose
controls that are covered intheoperatinginstructions. If the monitor isnotoperating properlyo
r
has beendropped ordamaged, contact an authorized HP dealer, reseller, or service provider.
Use onlya power sourceand connectionappropriate for this monitor, as indicatedonthelabel/
backplate ofthe monitor.
Be surethe total ampere rating ofthe products connected to the outlet does not exceed the current
rating ofthe electricaloutlet,and the totalampere ratingofthe products connectedtothe cord doe
s
not exceed the rating of the cord. Look on thepower label todetermine the ampere rating
(AMPS
or A)for each device.
Install themonitor near an outlet that you can easilyreach. Disconnect the monitor bygrasping the
plug firmlyand pullingitfromthe outlet. Neverdisconnect the monitor bypullingthe cord.
Turn the monitor offwhen not in use. You cansubstantiallyincrease the life expectancyof the
monitor byusing ascreen saver programand turning offthe monitor whennot in use.
Slots andopeningsinthecabinet areprovidedfor ventilation.These openings mustnot beblocked
or covered.Neverpushobjects ofanykindinto cabinet slotsor other openings.
Do notdropthemonitor or place it onan unstable surface.
Do notallowanything torest on thepower cord.Donot walkon the cord.
Keep the monitor in awell-ventilated area,awayfromexcessive light, heat or moisture.
When removing the monitor base, youmust laythe monitor face down on a soft area to preventit
fromgetting scratched, defaced, or broken.
Cleaning the Monitor
1.
Turn offthe monitor and the computer.
2.
Unplug the monitor fromthe wall outlet.
3.
Clean the monitor plastics with a clean cloth dampened with water.
4.
Clean the monitor screen withan antistatic screen cleaner.

UTION:
Do not use benzene, thinner, ammonia, or any other volatile substances tocleanthe
monitor or thescreen. These chemicals maydamage the cabinet finishas well as the screen.
Shipping
the Monitor
Keep the original packing box in a storage area. You mayneed it later if you move or ship the monitor.

Setting Up the Monitor
Unpacking
the
Monitor
1.
Unpackthe monitor. Make sure all contents are included. Storethe packing box.
2.
Turn offthe computer and other attacheddevices.
3.
Determine whether themonitor will be desktop mounted or wall-mounted. See“Installing the
Monitor” in this chapter.
4.
Prepare a flat area toassemble the monitor. You mayneed aflat, soft, protected area for placing
the monitor screen-down whilepreparingitfor installation.
5.
Youneed aPhillips screwdriverfor preparingthe monitor for wall-mounting. Youmayneeda
straight-slotscrewdriver tosecure somecables.

Monitor
You caninstall the monitor on a desktop or wall-mount it. Place the monitor in aconvenient, well-
ventilated locationnear yourcomputer. Connectthemonitor cables after youhave installedthemonitor.

Ifyour computer has aDVI connector and noVGA connector, use aDVI-I to VGAadapter
to connect your computer to themonitor. Connectthe DVI-I toVGA adapter totheDVIconnect
or
on thecomputer graphic card, andconnecttheVGA cable tothe adapter and the monitor.
Connect one endoftheVGA videocable to thebackof the monitor and the other end to the VGA
video connector onthe computer.

Ifyour monitor supports HDCP, it can receive high-definition content. High-definition content is available
in many sources, such as Blue-ray Disc devices or HDTV airor cablebroadcasts.Ifyou donothavean
HDCP-enabledmonitor, youwill see a blankscreen ora lowerresolution picture when playing high-
definition protected content. Yourcomputer graphics card and monitor must both support HDCP to
displayprotected content.

Adjusting the Tilt
For optimal viewing,adjust the screen tilt toyour own preference, as follows:
1.
Facethefront ofthe monitor and holdthe base so that you donottopplethemonitor whilechanging
the tilt.
2.
Adjust the tilt bymoving thetopedge ofthe monitor either toward or awayfromyou, without
touchingthe screen.

CD Software and Utilities
The CD that is included with this monitor contains drivers and software that you can install on yo

computer.
Installing Drivers
Ifyoudetermine that youneed to update thedrivers, youcan install themonitor driver INF and ICM fi

fromthe CD, or downloadthemfromthe Internet.
