Getting Started
5
2GETTING STARTED
- Please operate the device using the shoulder strap included in the package; this enables
you to work with both hands which is necessary in order to be safe and have freedom of
action.
- Press and hold the ON/OFF key for about 2 seconds until you hear the second beep (the
device should turn on and enter the main menu of leak detection function).
- The battery symbol on the top right of the screen indicates battery life. If there is sufficient
battery life remaining, proceed with the next steps; otherwise, recharge the batteries
using the included charger. (Do not use third-party chargers.)
- Plug in the device’s sensor (through the respective 6-pin connector). A sensor connection
symbol on the bottom right of the screen confirms the successful connection.
- If you wish to use wired headphones, you can plug in the headphone jack into the
specified port. A headphone jack symbol on the bottom right of the screen confirms the
successful connection. (The device’s Bluetooth® function is turned off by default; if you
wish to use Bluetooth® headphones, enter Bluetooth Settings, turn on the Bluetooth®
function, and search for your headset. The device will automatically save the headset you
select as the top priority for subsequent use.)
- The device’s sensitivity level is displayed on the screen in the form of a number and a
colored curved bar-graph. Set the sensitivity level in the Green area between 25 and 45
and begin the leak detection process. When needed, you can increase the sensitivity level.
The higher you set the sensitivity level, the higher the sound volume of the headphone
will be.
Note 1: Do not attempt to detect leaks using extremely high sound volumes as
this may saturate, fatigue, and/or dull your hearing capacity, rendering you
unable to detect leaks.
Note 2: When operating the device using headphones, you may become partly
or completely unable to hear the traffic or the vehicles’ audible warnings.
Therefore, please ensure all the required safety precautions in relation with
traffic and workplace conditions.
- The device is now ready for leak detection. Please prevent any physical shocks to the
sensor and do not drag it on the floor. Put the sensor on the floor very carefully and
examine the sound of the area. When finished, lift the sensor off the floor and examine
the next point (which should be at a minimum distance of 70 to 90 centimeters from
the first point).
- A folder is automatically created every day in the device’s memory and every time the
device is turned on, a new project is created in the said folder in which the information
of the user’s leak detection activities is stored. Please note that a maximum of 20
projects may be executed per day, while the user may store up to 2000 data frames
per project. In total, the device can store up to 1,200,000 data frames. If needed, you
can enter the FILE MANAGEMENT menu and delete or transfer the projects.
- Put the pick-up sensor on the floor using the hand-switch and press the MUTE key.
You should immediately begin to hear the sound through your headphones. The
received signal strength is displayed in the form of a horizontal bar-graph on the

Getting Started
6
screen. At the same time, a red bullet appears on the right side of the screen (the red
bullet symbol indicates that the system has not yet been able to measure the mean
and minimum signal strength during the time the MUTE key has been held. If the
MUTE key is pressed and held, after about 2 seconds, the red bullet will turn green,
which indicates the system is ready to display the mean and minimum received signal
strength during the time the MUTE key is held.)
- Every time the MUTE key is released, two vertical bar-graphs, which represent the
minimum and mean sound signal, will appear. At the same time, the corresponding
numerical values may be seen under the two bar-graphs. (If the MUTE key is pressed
and released too quickly, the cursor will not move, and the minimum and mean values
will not be displayed.)
- Please note that each time the MUTE key is pressed and released, the system
information and detection data are automatically stored as a data frame in a
corresponding project file in the memory.
- In addition to the vertical bar-graphs representing the minimum and mean signal
strength values during the time the MUTE key is held, a cursor under the vertical bar-
graphs moves onto the next column. In situations where (due to a variety of reasons,
such as human error or disruptive traffic and ambient noise) the measured sample is
deemed invalid, you can move the cursor to any other column using the DOWN and
UP keys and erase the selected column’s data by pressing the DELETE key.
- When certain of leakage at a given point, the user may move the cursor on the
corresponding column and mark it by pressing the EXIT key. In this situation, a water
drop symbol appears under the column. To cancel this and unmark the column, press
the EXIT key again. (Please note that the user may detect more than one leakage and,
accordingly, mark more than one point.)
- The points the user marks during the process are also marked in the device’s memory
and, when transferring the data to the HSS-APP (Utility Smart Assistant), the user can
choose to transfer only the marked points, or the data of one project or all the stored
projects.
- You can change the frequency range of the received signal by pressing the LP and HP
keys. The device is able to receive signals within the 100 Hz to 1200 Hz range. If there
are disruptive noises in the environment, by changing the frequencies of the Low Pass
(LP) and High Pass (HP) filters you can apply 9 different filters on the sound signals so
as to better hear the water leaks. It should be noted that pipe material and depth,
water pressure, soil texture and surface coating, type of leakage site, and many other
factors can affect the sound frequency generated by a given water leak.
- Should you intend to use a faster and more precise approach to determine the most
efficient filter, please press the FILTER SCAN key to activate the filteROT™ function
and pick your filter of choice in the following way; When you press the FILTER SCAN
key, a cyan bullet appears on the right side of the screen. Now, if the MUTE key is
pressed, the nine filters are activated one by one for 4 seconds each, thereby enabling
the user to listen to the ambient sound through each filter once. Once the user decides
the incoming sound is adequate, he can release the MUTE key to confirm and keep
the last frequency on the system. At this point, the device automatically exits
filteROT™ mode and returns to its normal function.
- The device displays the GPS information on the bottom left of the screen, while the
temperature and humidity data along with the used memory space appear on the

Getting Started
7
bottom right by default. If you want the GPS information to be stored in the system
memory along with the other information, take the device outdoors and wait for it to
receive and display the GPS data before starting the process of leak detection. Please
note that, in default settings, the GPS function is automatically activated when the
device is turned on unless the user turns it off.
- The maximum value of the minimum displayed signal may point to the precise location
of the leak on a given surveyed path.

GUI
8
3GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE (GUI)
3.1 General Form of Display
1- Page title/Notification: the page title displays here as well as system notifications such as
alarms related to environmental status of the device. The notifications are as follows:
- “Battery is low! Please plug in the charger” for when the battery life is below 15%.
- “Battery is low! PERIJA Plus will turn off soon” for when the battery life is below 10%.
- “Memory is about to full”for when the free space of the memory is less than 2%.
- “Low temperature limit violation” for when the inside temperature is less than -5°C.
- “High temperature limit violation” for when the inside temperature is more than 45°C.
- “Humidity limit violation” for when the inside humidity percentage is more than 90%.
- “The sensor disconnected” for when the sensor does not plugged in.
- “The headphone disconnected” for when no headphone is used.
- “Poor GPS” for when the GPS cannot find the required satellites.
2- Date: the current date based on the Gregorian calendar is displayed here and the user can
adjust it if needed in the Time & Date Settings. Please note that the date and time do not
stop progressing when the device is turned off and the device always displays them
correctly as there is an internal backup battery to support these functions.
3- Day of Week: the current day of the week is displayed here (Sat, Sun, etc.) Note that this
item set automatically based on the current date.
4- Time Clock (in hour and minute): the current time is displayed here, and the user can
adjust it if needed in the Time & Date Settings.
5- Bluetooth Status: the device Bluetooth status is displayed here as follows:
1) Bluetooth is ON.
2) Bluetooth connection is established.
6- Charger Status: the plug sign indicated if the charger plugged correctly and battery is
charging.

GUI
9
7- Battery Status: the amount of remained battery life is displayed here. For instance, when
the battery life value reads 67%, this means that 67% of the battery’s capacity is still full
and the device has consumed 33% of it.
8- Graphic display of battery life: from 100% to 20% the battery symbol on the top right of
the screen remains green, from 19% to 10% yellow, and from 9% to 0% (before powering
off) it is red. The three colors have been selected in accordance with the standard color
schemes for displaying the battery life status.
9- Help Bar: the function of keys used in settings and tools is displayed here.
3.2 Acoustic Water Leak Detector
1- Sensor Status: As soon as the sensor is plugged in, the device detects the connection and
displays it on the screen as shown to verify the connection. If the sensor disconnected
while the device is working, a “The sensor disconnected” message appears on the screen
(item 1 in section 3.1) to notify the user. A red cross appears on the sensor symbol too.
2- Headphone Status: The device detects wired headphones as soon as they are connected,
and a headphones jack symbol appears on the screen as a verification sign. If the
headphones are not plugged in properly, the device keeps displaying a red cross that
indicates no headphones are connected. A “The headphone disconnected” message
displays on the notification part of top bar too. If the user chooses to use Bluetooth®
headphones, activates the function in the SETTINGS, and the device successfully connects
to them, a symbol appears on the screen indicating the successful connection of the
wireless headphones.
As the user may sometimes have to use two headphones so that another user is able to
listen to potential leakage sounds in order to verify his assessment, the device has been
designed to support two sets of wired and Bluetooth® headphones simultaneously.
However, in this case, the device only displays the Bluetooth® headphones symbol on the
screen as it has been given a higher priority in the device’s system.
The PERIJA PLUS™ leak detector is equipped with an ultrahigh-speed
microcontroller and thus has proportionally fast processing and data transfer
speeds. However, please note that when you use Bluetooth® headphones, it is

GUI
10
possible that, due to the limitations of this technology, the sound may be
received with a slight delay of about 0.1 seconds.
3- Leak Detection Cursor: Normally, it indicates the place of the ongoing measurements.
Every time the MUTE key is pressed and released, the minimum and mean signal data are
displayed in the form of bar or line-graphs at that point. Then the cursor points to the next
column.
The user can use the UP and DOWN keys to move the cursor and scroll between the
measured points too. In this case, the user can erase each point by moving the cursor to
the place of the desired point and pressing the DELETE key. The system shifts all data
frames to the left to keep the measurements continuous. Note that when the device is in
scroll mode, pressing the MUTE key will move the cursor to the end of the point sequence
where the next point is going to append to the sequence.
Please be advised that the deleted data cannot be recovered by any means;
therefore, please make sure you are always aware of where you move the
cursor and what operation is going to be performed next.
4- Invalid Measurement: When the user presses the MUTE key, the sound is immediately
streamed on through the headphones. At the same time, a red bullet appears on the right
side of the screen, which indicates that the device does not collect the sufficient number
of data yet to calculate the measurements of received signals. Sudden pressings of the
MUTE key which store no data in the memory are eliminated from the data as the device
is programmed to intelligently detect the invalid data and refrain from saving or displaying
them.
5- Valid Measurement: When the user presses the MUTE key and keep holding it for about
2 seconds, the red bullet disappears and is replaced by a green one. This means the
ongoing measurements are valid and the system is now ready to display the vertical bar-
graph as well as the minimum and mean received signals. As soon as the MUTE key is
released, the green bullet disappears.
6- Signal Value Progress Bar: A horizontal progress bar is designed to show the immediate
value of the received signal. Considering this progress bar, the user can figure out in which
range the signal value is measured. Note that if the signal values differ too much from
each other, it may not be a good measurement.
7- Graph Grade: The screen has been scaled on the vertical axis into grid lines ranging from
0 to 100 so that the minimum and mean received signal strengths can be displayed
analogously in the form of bar-graphs or line-graph.
8- Bar-graphs: Every time the MUTE key is pressed and held, the user can listen to the
sensor’s amplified sound and the device measures these signals in high speed. As soon as
the MUTE key is released, the device displays the minimum and mean signal strengths
that it has during the time the key was held in the form of two bar-graphs, one blue and
the other white.
The blue bar graph represents the minimum signal (MIN) and the blue number under it is
its corresponding numerical value.
The white bar graph represents the mean signal (MEAN) and the white number under it
is its corresponding numerical value.
If the red bullet is displayed on the screen, the device is unable to calculate the minimum
and average signals and, thus, the data are not valid for calculations. The emergence of
the green bullet, however, indicates that the device can calculate and display the correct
MIN and MEAN values.

GUI
11
If the MUTE key is pressed and immediately released, the device considers this as an
invalid action and ignores the collected data.
9- Minimum and Mean Values: the corresponding numerical values of MIN and MEAN of the
measured signal are displayed under the column on which the bar (or line) graph of the
same color is displayed. Each measured point can be recognized by its numerical index
below the minimum and mean values box. The device can count to 2000 points every time
it turns on.
10-Leak Mark: when certain of leakage at a given point, the user may move the cursor to the
corresponding index and mark it by pressing the EXIT key. In this situation, a water drop
symbol appears under the column. To cancel this and unmark the column, press the EXIT
key again. Please note that the user may detect more than one leakage and, accordingly,
mark more than one point. Marking the leak points improve the data organization in the
device as well as HSS-Application.
11-High Pass Filter (HPF) Cut-off Frequency: This version of PERIJA Plus has been equipped
with three HPF with cut-off frequency of 100 Hz, 200 Hz, and 400 Hz. Item 11 indicates
the selected HPF cut-off frequency, and the user can change it using the HP key.
12-Low Pass Filter (LPF) Cut-off Frequency: This version of PERIJA Plus has been equipped
with three LPF with cut-off frequency of 400 Hz, 600 Hz, and 1200 Hz. Item 12 indicates
the selected LPF cut-off frequency, and the user can change it using the LP key.
13-filteROT™ Mode Indicator: If the user intends to use the filteROT™ work mode, the FILTER
SCAN key on the key panel should be pressed. As long as the device is operating in this
mode, a cyan bullet appears on the right-hand side of the screen. For further information
on the filteROT™ mode, please refer to the section entitled “filteROT™ MODE.”
14-Sensitivity Level: The sensitivity of the device is displayed using a numerical value as well
as a curved bar-graph. The bar-graph that indicates the sensitivity level is green for values
between 0 and 59, yellow between 60 and 80, and red for values between 80 and 100.
The selected colors are in accordance with the standard color scheme of danger or
warning signs.
With high sensitivity level, there is a chance that the user’s hearing capacity
may be saturated and temporarily dulled in a way that the user cannot be able
to discern the leakage sound. Therefore, it is recommended that the device
not be used for prolonged periods of time at high sensitivity.
While using headphones, ambient sounds such as the warning sounds
produced by vehicles may not be audible for the user. Therefore, ensure all
safety precautions before operating the device at the project location.
15-Global Positioning System (GPS): The GPS is installed on the device and functions as a high-
accuracy CEP module which works with a maximum CEP (circular error probable) of 2.5
meters. If the user leaves the GPS function switched on in the SETTINGS, the numerical
values of latitude and longitude are displayed on the screen and updated every second. It
should be noted that each time the values of received signals are saved, the device also
stores the other relevant values and information such as battery life, date, time, GPS
information, selected filters, etc.
If the GPS function is turned off, the data saved by the device will not include
the geographical location of each project and, naturally, the location cannot
be displayed on the Google Maps application or other GIS-ready maps.

16-Temperature and Humidity: The inside humidity percentage and the inside temperature
(in degrees Celsius) of the device are displayed here. Note that the inside temperature
value in degree Fahrenheit is available on About PERIJA Plus tab too.
If the inside temperature drops to -5°C and the temperature violation alarm
is ON, a warning will appear on the screen to notify the user. If the inside
temperature drops below -10°C, the device automatically turns off to reduce
the risk of device being damaged.
If the inside temperature surpasses 45°C, a warning will appear on the screen
to notify the user. If the inside temperature rises beyond 50°C, the device
automatically turns off to reduce the risk of device being damaged.
17-Memory: The current percentage of the used memory is displayed here. The device has
the capacity to store up to 1,200,000 data frames in its memory.
Should the above-mentioned value come close to 100% (full memory), the
user should enter the File Management tools, transfer the information of
saved projects to the HSS-APP Android application (utility smart assistant),
and then delete the data from the device’s memory. If the device reaches its
98% of its capacity and the memory capacity alarm is ON, the device will
inform the user.
18-Line-graphs: PERIJA PLUS™ includes a SWAP key on its key panel which allows the user to
alter the way the data are presented. The user, for instance, may want to see line-graphs
rather than bar-graphs. Pressing the SWAP key changes the representation type of the
measurement. In many cases, although line-graphs may indeed be more suitable to spot
the exact leak point, the fact remains that the most accurate and reliable parameter to
locate a leak using acoustic water leak detectors is the sound a leakage generates, which
is to be picked up by the user. Therefore, users are always advised to seek ways of
improving their skill and furthering their experience in discerning leakage sounds.
3.3 Main Menu
Please enter the main menu using the Set key to adjust the settings, manage the files, review
the system information, and learn more about the manufacturing company. The menus
provide the user with multiple options and features. Please note that the settings edited by
