1 Maintenance Instructions
1.1 Maintenance Principles
Before performing maintenance, conform to the following recommendations:
zKeep the device clean and dry.
zPerform regular checks and tests according to the daily maintenance procedures and
record related data.
zQuickly resolve any problems found during the maintenance process. When facing
problems that cannot be resolved, contact Huawei local representative office.
zDo not reset devices or load or change data randomly. To change the data, back up the
data first and record change histories. If the devices run properly after the data has been
changed for a period of time, you can delete the backup data.
zAssign rights to accounts based on levels. Change passwords periodically. Allocate
accounts only to maintenance personnel. The password of the management account is
only known to the maintenance owner.
1.2 Objective
Maintenance is performed to:
zLocate and rectify potential faults in a timely manner to prevent economic loss.
zKnow the running status of devices and optimize the operating environment of devices to
improve device running efficiency.
1.3 Maintenance Precautions
Before performing maintenance, maintenance personnel must read and conform to the
following items:
zTake electrostatic discharge (ESD) measures. For example, wear ESD wrist straps when
replacing device parts.
zRecord detailed information about problems that occur during maintenance.

2
zIf an emergency fault occurs, handle the emergency according to the procedure described
in the Emergency Maintenance Guide, and contact Huawei technical support engineers
immediately.
zBe cautious when performing high risk operations mentioned in this document.
zRecord all the important operations, for example, restarting a process and upgrading the
software. An important operation must be performed by qualified operators after the
related data is backed up and proper measures are provided against security and
emergency events.
1.4 Requirements for Maintenance Personnel
The following describes the skills that the maintenance personnel need to master.
To achieve the expected results of routine maintenance, maintenance personnel must be
well-trained and have the following necessary skills:
zNot have red-green or blue-yellow color blindness or other color vision deficiency.
zHave basic electrical and electronic knowledge and be skilled in operating electronic and
electrical devices.
zUnderstand the principle and network of each system component.
zBe familiar with the basic commands of operating systems such as Linux and databases
such as Oracle, and the impacts of the commands on the system.
zBe proficient in using common maintenance tools.
zBe capable of summarizing, classifying, and analyzing data.
1.5 Requirements for Device Operating Environment
The following describes the requirements for device operating environments.
Physical Environment
zThe operating temperature ranges from 15°C to 25°C (18°C to 22°C is recommended),
with a change rate of lower than 3°C in an hour.
zThe relative humility ranges from 5% to 95% (without condensation), with a change rate
of lower than 3% every hour.
zYou are advised to install a high-voltage static air cleaner in the host room.
zThe floor must be clean and cannot be carpeted.
zUser guides, software application guides, report papers, and color bars cannot be placed
in the host room.
Electric Power
zA dedicated power supply is provided from the power distribution board for the
telecommunications room. The power supply does not provide power for
system-irrelevant equipment such as lights and copiers.
zAC power supply regulators must be installed to filter out surge and interference,
ensuring pure and stable power supply to all devices in the host room.

zThe Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is purchased based on your site requirement to
provide power and protect data and devices in case of a power failure.
zIf 110 V and 220 V power sockets are configured at the same time, they must be clearly
labeled at the edges of sockets.
zThe power socket location must be specified on the power distribution board for
reference in later inspection or system expansion.
zOn the raised floor, holes must be reserved for signal wires and electrical power cables.
In addition, a rubber pad must be placed at the brim of a hole to protect signal wires and
electrical power cables.
zThe places from which signal wires and electrical power cables are led to the host room
must be sealed to protect the places from dust and pests. If the operating room is adjacent
to the host room, a signal wire tube must be embedded in the wall between the two
rooms. You are advised to use a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tube with a diameter of 6 cm
or more.
Air Conditioning, Lighting and Fire Fighting Facilities
zTo provide a clean environment, an independent rather than central air-conditioner
system is required for the host room.
zThe maintenance-free emergency lighting with storage batteries must be installed in the
host room and operating room.
zAutomatic fire alarm devices must be installed in the host room. Automatic sprinklers
cannot be used.
zFire extinguishing devices in the host room must apply to electrical and communication
devices. Common fire extinguishers such as sprinkler system are not recommended.
zDevice operators must regularly organize training on the use of firefighting equipment
and perform maintenance and inspection on the firefighting equipment.
Storage
The storage requirements for the parts that are not yet installed are as follows:
zAll devices must be properly packaged.
zThe operating temperature ranges from 15°C to 25°C, with a change rate of lower than
10°C in an hour.
zThe relative humidity ranges from 30% to 80%.
The air quality must meet the requirements listed in Table 1-1.
Table 1-1 Parameters for air cleanness
Particle Diameter (μm) Allowable Particle Quantity (ppm)
≥1 ≤4 x 107
≥1.5 ≤4 x 106
≥5 ≤4 x 105
The density of sulfur dioxide must be less than 0.14 ppm
.

1.6 Requirements for Device Documents
Before performing maintenance operations, obtain device documents.
Device documents include:
zProduct device documents that contain the following information:
−Network diagram
−Telecommunications room layout file
−Special software description table
zTechnical documents, user guides, and maintenance guides delivered with devices.
Make sure that the device documents are complete and correct. If the device configuration and
network change, make sure that related documents are updated in time.
