Quidway® NetEngine 5000E Core Router
System Architecture
Overview
The Quidway®NetEngine 5000E core router (hereinafter referred to as "NE5000E") is a top-level
router launched by Huawei in orientation to Internet backbone node, MAN core node and data
interconnection center node. The NE5000E inherits the design philosophy of the 5th generation
router. Based on advanced network processor technology, ASIC technology, IPv6 technology and
optical backplane interconnection technology, the NE5000E adopts a distributed and scalable
design and achieves a mass switching capacity and super high forwarding performance, fully
satisfying bandwidth performance, QoS and service provisioning capability requirements of the new
generation Internet.
The NE5000E has a switching capacity of 2.56 Tbps and an interface capacity of 1.28 Tbps,
supporting high-density 10G/40G interfaces and delivering a forwarding performance of up to 1600
Mpps. The NE5000E is scalable through interconnection of optical backplanes, and also supports
multi-chassis cascading, improving the interface capacity and system performance greatly. The
NE5000E has 22 slots: two for MPUs (1:1 backup), four for SFUs (1+3 backup) and 16 service
slots.
Architecture
The NE5000E is based on full-distributed hardware forwarding and non-blocking CROSSBAR
switching technology and configured with three sets of built-in buses: monitor bus, management
bus, and high-speed data bus.The interface boards of the NE5000E adopt advanced ASIC and
network processor technologies to implement high-speed service processing.
