1 General information
1.1 Information on the operating and assembly manual
These operating and installation instructions provide important information on handling the
function modules of the U-ONE®-(SAFETY)-LWL system. It must be read carefully and
observed before starting any work.
In addition, the local accident prevention regulations and general safety regulations
applicable to the area of application of the device must be observed.

1.2 Explanation of symbols
Warning notices in this operating and assembly manual are designated using symbols.
Information is proceeded by signal words which express the extent of the danger involved.
Always comply with these notices, and use caution to avoid accidents, personal injury and
property damage.

1.3 Warranty and liability
Only the “General Terms and Conditions” of the company Johannes Hübner Fabrik
elektrischer Maschinen GmbH apply. These will be available to the operator at the latest
when the order is confirmed or when the contract is concluded. All warranty and liability
claims for personal injury and property damage are excluded, and the operator's operating
permit will be null and void if one or more of the following apply:
•Failure to observe the operating and assembly manual.
•Improper use of the function modules
•Improper assembly, installation, commissioning and programming of the function
modules.
•Improper work completed on the function modules
•Operating the function modules despite technical defects.
•Independently carrying out mechanical or electrical modifications to the function
modules.
•Independently carrying out repairs.
•Catastrophes due to external interference or force majeure.
•Use of non-qualified personnel.
•Opening the function modules.
1.4 Organisational measures
•The operating and assembly manual must always be stored easily within reach in the
area where the function modules are used.
•In addition to the operating and assembly manual, general statutory and other binding
regulations on accident prevention and environmental protection must be observed.
Operators must be trained on these regulations.
•Applicable national, local, and system-specific provisions and requirements must be
observed.
•The operator is obligated to inform personnel of special operating considerations and
requirements..
•The type plate and any prohibitions or notice signs adhered to the function modules
must always be legible.
•Repairs may only be carried out by the manufacturer, or by an agency or person
authorized by the manufacturer.
1.5 Warranty provisions
Warranty provisions are outlined in the manufacturer's General Delivery Conditions.

2 Basic safety information
DANGER!
This section provides an overview of all significant safety aspects necessary to
protect personnel and ensure safe, fault-free operation of the function modules.
Failure to observe this information may result in significant danger.
2.1 Responsibility of the operator
The function modules are used in commercial areas. The operator of the function
modules, therefore, is subject to statutory occupational safety requirements and the
safety, accident prevention and environmental regulations applicable to the areas in which
the function modules are used.
2.2 Selecting and qualifying personnel; basic obligations
•All work on the function modules may be carried out only by qualified personnel.
Qualified personnel are personnel with the training, experience, and instruction, as
well as expertise on relevant standards, specifications, accident prevention
regulations and operating circumstances necessary to carry out the required work,
and who have been authorised to do so by the persons responsible for the safety of
the system. They are able to identify and avoid potential hazards.
•In addition, please see standards VDE 0105-100 and IEC 60364 for the definition of
“qualified personnel” (reference, e.g. Beuth Verlag GmbH, VDE-Verlag GmbH)
•Responsibilities for assembly, installation, commissioning and operation must be
clearly defined. Personnel who are receiving instruction or training must be
supervised.
2.3 Proper use
The UO-SCU / UO-ECU function modules must be used together with the basic device
USL(H) 42 / UOL(H) 40. Depending on the application, further function modules can be
added.
The system manufacturer must check whether the properties of the function modules
meet his application-specific safety requirements. The system manufacturer is responsible
for or decides on the use of the function modules. The function modules are designed for
unattended continuous operation.
Proper use also includes:
•observance of all instructions in these operating and mounting instructions
•the observance of the type plates and possibly attached prohibition or information
signs.
•observance of the operating instructions of the machine or system manufacturer.
•operating the function modules within the limits specified in the technical data
•refraining from any use contrary to the intended purpose

2.4 Improper use
WARNING!
Risk of death, personal injury and property damage due to improper use of the
function modules!
In particular, the following uses are prohibited:
●use in environments with explosive atmospheres
●use in environments with radioactive radiation
●he use on ships
●the use for medical purposes
2.5 Safety information
WARNING! NOTE! NOTE!
Destruction, damage or functional impairment of the function modules!
•Perform wiring work, opening and closing electrical connections only in a de-
energized state.
•Possible hazards due to interactions with other systems and devices installed
or to be installed in the vicinity must be checked. The user is responsible for
taking appropriate measures.
•The voltage supply must be protected with a fuse corresponding to the supply
cable cross-section.
•Cables used must be suitable for the temperature range.
•A defective function module must not be operated.
•Opening the function modules is prohibited.
•The nameplates specify the technical properties of the function modules. If a
nameplate is no longer legible or if a nameplate is completely missing, the
function module must no longer be operated. Hübner Service (see page 2)
must be contacted.
NOTE!
Disposal:
If disposal must be carried out after the service life of the function modules, the
applicable country-specific regulations must be observed.

3 Assembly
3.1 Order
The following points must be observed during installation:
•The UO-SCU or UO-ECU controller module must be mounted on the left-hand side
as the first module (marked red).
•Communication modules (UO-EPB, UO-SPB, UO-SPN, UO-EPN, UO-EEI) are to
be mounted on the right-hand side as the last modules (marked blue).
•The sequence of the remaining modules can be freely selected.

3.2 Mounting on the top-hat rail
1. Mount the bus connector on the top-hat rail. To engage, ensure that the individual bus
connectors are first hooked in on one side. The opposite side is then engaged with
pressure.
If the ends of the top-hat rail are freely accessible, connectors can also be inserted
laterally.
2. Insert the bus connectors laterally into each other and thus connect them.
3. Mount the modules individually. These are placed on the top-hat rail from above and
then swiveled in. Make sure that the modules snap into place.
4. If necessary, mount end clamps (see chapter 3.4).

3.3 Disassembly
1. The cables on the terminal strips do not have to be disconnected individually, as the
entire terminal strips can be pulled off together with the clamped cables. This facili-
tates the installation of a replacement device.
2. First, the individual modules are disassembled. To release the fixation on the top-hat
rail, the fuse must be pulled down. To do this, use a screwdriver from below, for exam-
ple.
3. The module can then be swung out.
4. The bus connectors can be slid sideways off the top-hat rail. If this is not possible, a
screwdriver can also be used to lift them off the top-hat rail.
3.4 Protection in case of strong vibration
If strong vibrations are to be expected during operation, the modules can be secured with
the enclosed end clamps (marked red). These are mounted to the left of the UO-SCU or
UO-ECU module and to the right of the last function module in the system.
