The
Plum
b
o
b
®
PB 3000 is mounted on the top of the silo. A se
n
so
r
weight is driven down into the silo. It is mounted at the end of a
r
o
p
e
or tape which is wound on a motor driven roller. Upon contact
w
it
h
bulk
m
a
t
e
r
i
a
l
,
the
motor changes
the
w
i
nd
i
ng
d
i
r
e
c
t
i
o
n
and the sensor
weight is driven back to the upper stop p
os
iti
o
n
.
During downwards movement of the sensor weight the distance
i
s
electronically measured by the rotations of the internal rope

p
e
roller. Themicrocontroller converts the measured distance into
