Reel Lift Retrieval System Installation Guide
This guide will assist you in the installation of the Reel Lift Retrieval System. Before any work is
performed, make certain that all pre-cautions are followed to insure the safety of others and to prevent
damage of equipment.
Mount the retrieval system onto the arm assembly as shown in the picture above.
Install the hose bracket onto the rear mounting hole of the arm
assembly at a 45° angle from the rear edge of the arm assembly
as shown. Use one (1) of the two (2) provided ¾” x 5-1/2” bolts
to secure the hose bracket and the retrieval system onto the
arm assembly. Figure 2

Assemble the needle valve assembly as follows. Leave all connections loose until the assembly is
complete to aid in the installation onto the Reel Lift bed:
Connect the two (2) JIC to O-ring branch
tees and the two (2) 90° swivel elbow
fittings. Figure 3

Connect the assembled branch tees to
each end of the needle valve. Figure 4

Connect the two (2) 8-1/2” hoses to the
open end of the branch tees. Figure 5

Connect the two (2) 90° O-ring adjustable street
elbows to the open end of the 8-1/2” hoses.
Connect the two (2) male flat faced quick couplers
to the O-ring elbows. Figure 6

To mount the needle valve assembly, connect the quick
couplers; center the needle valve between the quick
couplers on the mud flap rail above the mud flap bolts.
Mark the (2) locations and drill 5/16” holes. Use the
provided ¼” bolts and nuts to fasten the needle valve
bracket onto the mud flap rail. Tighten all fittings when the
needle valve assembly is in the correct position. Figure 7

Install the hydraulic motor bracket assembly
onto the retrieval sliding assembly as shown
using the hardware provided and into the
vacant holes. (Wheel and hub removed for
clarity) Figure 8

Install the two (2) straight JIC to O-ring fittings
into the hydraulic motor. Route and connect
the hoses from the motor fittings, through the
hose bracket and to the open ends of the 90°
elbows on the needle valve as shown in the
picture. Figure 9

Operation of the retrieval unit is as follows: Use a 1-5/8” socket on the end of the acme rod to make the
tire on the retrieval system contact the reel.
Start the vehicle engine and open the valve tool box to activate the clutch pump. The valve handle that
operates the tool circuit will operate the retrieval system.
Pull the handle to start the retrieval system turning either clockwise or counterclockwise depending on
how the hoses were attached to the needle valve. Pushing the handle starts the system turning the
opposite direction. The needle valve acts as a speed control for the system. Turning the handle
clockwise will reduce the speed and turning it counterclockwise, increases the speed.
