Introduction
About The I-O Thin Client
The I-O Thin Client is a robust solution available for thin client computing in the IBM, Windows, Citrix,
VMware and UNIX environments.
Equipped with a Linux operating system, the product provides seamless connectivity to Windows,
VMware and Citrix virtualization using RDP, VMware View PCOIP and Citrix’s ICA and HDX protocols.
The client can also be used as a web based client where it includes a local browser to provide instant
access to the internet.
Remote management is provided through the Pro|Edge Management Utility which allows the system
administrator to remotely access, configure and update the thin client.
Pro|Edge also supports the Altiris Deployment Solution. The thin client is shipped with the Altiris client
already installed and can be used immediately in existing Deployment Server environments. You may
need to purchase an Altiris Client License if you are not able to utilize an Altiris Client License already
installed in your Deployment Server.
The term client is used in this guide to represent the I-O Thin Client.
Consistent with our policy of continuous development, the product you received may have features in
addition to those described in this guide. Please visit us at www.iocorp.com for current information.

Install the Thin Client
This chapter describes the procedure to install the product hardware.
Step One: Unpack
The carton in which the product was shipped to you contains the following:
Getting Started Guide
An I-O Thin client
Stand
External Power Supply
Mouse
CD containing the Pro|Edge Management Utility and User’s Guides
Optionally, a 104 or 122-Key keyboard
When you open the carton, if you find any discrepancy between the contents of the carton and the
above list, contact the dealer or reseller from whom you purchased the product immediately.
NOTE: PLEASE RETAIN THE ORIGINAL CARTON AND PACKING MATERIAL. THEY WOULD BE REQUIRED TO
AVOID DAMAGE DURING TRANSIT.
Step Two: Prepare
1. The site where you want to install the product must have the following
Two 100~120V AC, 2A, 50Hz, 3-pin power outlets (one each for the thin client and the display
unit).
NOTE: ENSURE THAT THE POWER OUTLET IS PROPERLY REGULATED AND GROUNDED. A FLOATING
GROUND /CHASSIS COULD CAUSE AN ELECTRIC SHOCK.
Well ventilated, clean, dry and dust free atmosphere
Specified environmental conditions
Table or desk of suitable size.
2. Place the thin client logic unit standing upright so that airflow will not be blocked to the top and
bottom cooling vents. Placing the thin client on its side could lead to an overheating condition and
damage the internal components.
3. Ensure a minimum space of 2 inches (5 cm) on all sides of the unit for efficient convection cooling.
CAUTION:BE CERTAIN THE VENTS ON THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE UNIT ARE NOT BLOCKED!
OTHERWISE,THE UNIT COULD OVERHEAT AND DAMAGE THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS.

Step Three: Connect accessories and power
The connectors for devices supported by the product are located as shown in the following diagrams:
See the following page for details about the connectors and cables and the order for connecting them.
CAUTION: BEFORE CONNECTING ANY CABLE,ENSURE THAT THE EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY IS NOT
CONNECTED TO THE WALL OUTLET.THE POWER MUST BE CONNECTED ONLY AFTER ALL OTHER
CONNECTIONS ARE MADE.

Install the Thin Client
Thin Client User’s Guide 9
1. Place the thin client logic unit standing upright so that airflow will not be blocked to
the top and bottom cooling vents. Otherwise, the unit could overheat and damage
the internal components. (An Optional VESA mount is also available to attach the
thin client to the back of a LCD monitor.)
2. Connect the keyboard to a USB port.
3. Connect the mouse to a USB port.
4. Connect the display.
5. Connect the Ethernet cable.
6. Connect the printer (optional). USB to Serial or Parallel adapters may be ordered
from I-O if your printer does not have an USB connection.
7. Connect the power connector to the thin client and insert the power supply into the
wall outlet.
CAUTION: ENSURE THAT THE SCREWS PROVIDED WITH D-TYPE CONNECTORS (LPT1, COM1 AND
VIDEO PORTS)ARE FASTENED.
Step Four: Connect to the Server
Connect a 10/100/1000BaseT cable from the network outlet of the thin client to an Ethernet wall switch.
NOTE: BEFORE CONNECTING ANY CABLE,ENSURE THAT EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY IS DISCONNECTED
AND THAT NO POWER IS BEING SUPPLIED TO THE THIN CLIENT.

On the front panel surrounding the power switch the LED glows when the thin client is powered up.
On the back panel next the Ethernet connector the yellow LED indicates Ethernet link and the green
indicates activity.
NOTE:THE THIN CLIENT,LIKE THE CURRENT PCS,ALWAYS HAS POWER APPLIED TO THE
MOTHERBOARD AS LONG AS THE POWER TRANSFORMER IS CONNECTED.IN THE STAND BY CONDITION
