Thisinstructionmanualisintendedforthesaunaownerorthepersoninchargeofcaringforthe
operationofthesauna,aswellasfortheelectricianwhoinstallstheheater.Whentheinstallation
iscompletetheseinstructionsmustbegiventotheownerorthepersoncaringforthesauna.The
saunaheaterisintendedforthesolepurposeofheatingthesaunaroomtoatemperature
appropriateforbathing.Itsuseforanyotherpurposeisprohibited.
Beforeyoubegininstallingtheheater,payattentiontothefollowing
points:
Bewareofthesharpedgesofthestainlesssteelmesh.Usealong‐sleeved
shirtandprotectiveglovesduringtheinstallation.
Readthroughthisinstallationmanualbeforeyoubegintheinstallationofthe
heater.
Thewarrantydoesnotcoverdefectscausedbyfaultyinstallationormisuseof
theheater.

Installationoftheheater
1. Choosetheplacefortheheateraccordingtotherequiredsafetydistances.Theinstallationmustbe
carriedoutintheplacewheretheheaterwillbesituated.Thesafetydistancesaremeasuredfrom
theheater'smeshframeoutwards.Minimumsafetydistancetoinflammablesurfacesis100mmon
thesidesandthebackoftheheaterand600‐800mmtotheceiling(refertopage8).Negligenceto
complywiththesafetydistancesmaycausefirehazard.
2. Removethebaseplatefromtheundersideoftheheaterbyunscrewingthefourscrews(pic1).
3. Connectthefivepoleelectriccabletotheconnectionstripinsidetheelementboxaccordingtothe
circuitconnectordiagram(page7).
4. Testthatalltheheatingelementsfunctionproperlybyswitchingthetimeronfor1–4hours'usage.
Ifalltheresistorsheatup,closetheelementboxpanel.(Ifoneormoreoftheheatingelements
failstoheatuporanotherproblemoccurs,contactthemanufacturer'stechnicalsupport.)Test
timerfunctionalityaswell,whilethethermostatissettozerotonotheattheresistorsduringthe
test.
5. Detachthetwostainlesssteelmeshframesfromoneanotherusingthekey(2,5mmhexagon
socket).(Pic2).
6. Lifttheuppermeshframewhilepiligthestonestothebottompart(pic3).Checkthattheheating
elementsstandupstraight.Iftheyhavebeenbent,carefullystraightenthem.
7. PILINGOFTHESTONES:Washthestonesbeforepiling.Detachthetwostainlesssteelmeshframes
fromoneanotherusingthekey(2,5mmhexagonsocket).Inthe9kWmodel,checkthattheguide
fortheresistorsisinplaceatthetopoftheheaterandkeepsthemupright.Pilestonestothelower
partoftheframeuntilthelevelreaches10cmfromthemiddlepart(pic4).Thishelpsinstallthe
upperpartwithinthelowerframe.Pilestonestothefilltheupperpart.Youmayloosenthe
resistorguidetopilethestonesinuntilhalfwaydone.Tocompletethepiling,reattachtheguide
properlyandleaveinplace.Theheatingelementsshouldbecarefullycovered.Pleasemakesure
thatelementsmakeNOTcontactwitheachotherorwiththeheaterframe.
8. Olivineandolivine‐doleritestonesarerecommended,insizessmallerthan10cmindiameter.The
stonesshouldnotbeplacedtootightlytogetherallowingforfreeairflowbetweenthestones.In
communallyorpubliclyusedsaunaswerecommendtheuseofceramicKerkesstonesaroundthe
heatingelements(www.kerkes.fi).Kerkesstonessupportandhelppreservetheresistorsandthey
donotdisintegrateprematurelyduetohightemperaturechanges.Notethattheuseofsoapstone
andnaturalstonesisallowedonlyontheouteredgesandonthetopoftheheater.
9. Affixtheheatertothewallusingthesteelsupporters(pic5).Checkthattheheaterstandssteady
beforeuse.Remembertoalsoreaffixtheframeattachers.
10. Affixwaterguidetotheupperpartoftheheater(pic6).
11. Werecommendtheuseofsafetyrailingsaroundtheheater.However,thestainlesssteelmesh
framedoesnotover‐heatthewayordinarysteel‐casedheatersdo.
12. Thesurfaceofthestonessinksinalittleaftertheheaterisinuse.Frequentlycheckthatthe
heatingelementsdonotbecomeexposed.Ifthisshouldhappen,pileinmorestones.The
disintegrationofthestonesdependsonthetypeofstonesandthefrequencyofuse.Thecondition
ofthestonesshouldbecheckedyearlyandbrokenstonesmustbereplacedwithnewones.

Connectingtheheatertotheelectricalnetwork
Theheaterisconnectedtotheelectricalnetworksemi‐stationarilywithanH07RN‐Frubbercableoran
equivalent.TheuseofPVC‐insulatedcableasaconnectingcableisprohibitedduetothermal
embrittlement.Theelectricinstallationmayonlybeadministeredbyaqualifiedelectricianadheringto
currentregulations.Themaximumdistanceofthejunctionboxfromtheflooris400mm,measuredfrom
theuppercornerofthebox.Makesurethattheconnectingcablewillnotbeexposedtothermalradiation
ormechanicalstrain.Iftherubbercablerunninginsidethewallofthesaunaisabove1000mmfromthe
floor,itneedstoenduretemperaturesupto170degreesCelsius(forexampleSSJ).
Temperaturerestrictor
Thetemperaturerestrictorswitchesoffthepowerifthetemperatureinthesaunaclimbsdangerouslyhigh
duetoamalfunction.Thetemperaturerestrictorcanberesetaftertheheaterhascooleddown,fromthe
buttonlocatedinthefrontpanel.Iftherestrictorcutsthepoweroffagain,itisnotduetoatemporary
malfunction.Thecauseofthemalfunctionneedstobedeterminedbyaqualifiedelectricianbefore
resetting.
Thermostat
Tocontrolthetemperatureoftheheaterusetheknobinthecontrol
panel.Whenheatingthesaunaforthefirsttime,rotatetheknobtoits
maximumpositionforonehour.Checkthatthetemperatureinthesauna
isapprox.50–60degreesCelsius.Turnthetemperatureknobanti‐
clockwiseuntilitclicksoff.Adjustthetemperaturetowhichever
directionyouwish.Thenewsettingswilltakeeffectthenexttimeyou
usetheheater.
Timer
Thetimercanbepresettostartheatingin1to8hours.Theheater's
operatingtimeis1to4hours.Thetimeroperatesasthemainpower
switchoftheheateranditswitchestheheateronandoffaccordingto
yoursettings.Theheaterisonfor4hoursfromthepresetheatingtime
unlessitismanuallyswitchedoffwhennolongerneeded.
Tostartheatingimmediately:Rotatetheknobtotheoperatingrange
(SectionAintheimage)torunfor0–4hours.
Topre‐setheating:Rotatetheknobtothepre‐settingrange(sectionBin
theimage),tobeginin1to8hours.Theheaterswitchesonwhenthe
knobhasrotateditselftotheoperatingrange.
WARNING!Alwaysmakesureafteryoufinishsauna‐bathingthatthepowerisswitchedoffandnolonger
powerstheheatresistorswhensettozero.

Beforebathingforthefirsttime,heatuptheheateroncetoburnofftheprotectiveoilsolvents.Be
carefultoairoutthesaunaroomefficientlyafterwards.
Theheatingtimeisabout45–75minutesdependingonthesizeoftheroomanditsventilation.
RecommendedtemperatureforIKIstonepillarsis50–70degrees.Pouringwaterontheheater
increasestemperatureandhumidity.Youcancontroltheheatandhumiditybypouringthewater
todifferentpartsoftheheater.
Thetemperatureshouldbesettothedesiredrangefromthecontrolunit.
Checkthattheheatingelementsdonotbecomeexposedasthestonesshiftaboutduetoheat
expansion.
Checktheconditionofthestonesonceayear,andcleanandreplaceasnecessary.
Donotthrowwatertotheheaterwhentherearepeoplenearby:thesteamcomingofftheheater
isburninghot.Donotthrowtoomuchwaterontotheheater.Maximumamountishalfalitreata
time.

Troubleshooting
Iftheheaterorsaunaroomdoesnotheatup,checkthat:
Thepowerison.
Thetimerissettotheoperatingrange.
Thetemperatureknobissettoahighertemperaturethanthetemperatureinthesaunaroom.
Thefusesareintact.
Thetemperaturerestrictor(overheatprotector)hasnotgoneoff.Iftemperaturerestrictorhas
goneoff,thereasonforthismustbesolvedbeforeusingheateragain.
Thestonesarepiledcorrectly
Ifthewoodenwalls/partstakeonadarkershade,checksafetydistancesandpilingofthestonesdoesnot
leaveresistorexposedortouchingoneanother.Iftheresistorsarevisibletheyemitexcessiveheat.

Warranty
IKI‐KiuasLtd(themanufacturer)assuresawarrantytoitsproductsasstipulatedhere,guaranteeingthe
qualityandfunctionalityoftheproductsduringthewarrantyperiod.Thewarrantyappliestoheaterssold
andusedinFinland.Thewarrantyrequiresthatthebuyerfollowtheinstructionsregardingtheplacement
oftheheater,itsinstallation,useandmaintenanceaswellasthoseregardingthequalitiesofthestones
usedintheheater.Thelengthofthewarrantyperiodis24monthfromthedayofpurchaseorfromtheday
ofpurchase.Thewarrantyperiodforspasaunasandotherpublic‐usesaunasis6months,ordetermined
accordingtothefrequencyofuse.Contactthemanufacturerformoredetails.
Thewarrantyforelectricheatersrequiresthat:
1Incaseofdefectormalfunction,thebuyermustalwayscontactthemanufactureror
salesagentbeforesearchingforthecauseorattemptingtorepairit.Anyrepairsmustbe
agreeduponinwritingwiththemanufacturer.
2Inprivateapartmentuse,theheater’sstonespaceneedstocleanedoutandre‐piledat
leastonceayearandweatheredstonesneedtobereplacedwithnewones.
3Ininstitutionalorprofessionaluse,theheater’sstonesmustbere‐piledatleastthree
timesayearduringthewarrantyperiod.Ifthisisnotdone,thewarrantyceasestoapply.
Inaddition,thestonesmustbechangedtonewonesatleastonceayear.Proof,suchas
theproduct’spurchasereceipt,mustbepresentedatrequest.Theuseofceramicheater
stones(otherthanthoseformKerkes)isprohibited.
4Thewarrantydoesnotcoverdismantlementorreinstallationonsaunabenches,removal
ofsaunastonesnorre‐pilingthem.IKI‐Kiuasrecommendsusingforthelowerlevels
saunabenchesthatcanbemovedwithoutusingtoolstodismantlestructures.
5Thewarrantyforreplacementpartsis12monthsfromthedayofpurchase.The
replacementforthedamagedpartwillbedeliveredtothesalesagentcostfree.The
installationofthereplacementpartmustbecarriedoutbyamechanicthathasbeen
approvedbythemanufacturer.Themanufacturerisnotliabletoreimburseanycosts
duetotheremovalofthefaultypartortheinstallationofthereplacement.Thefaulty
partmustbereturnedtothemanufactureratrequestandattheirexpense.The
manufacturerwillissueitsfreightcontactsnumberforthedeliveryofthefaultypart.
Receiptfromtheresellerorcertificatefromamanufacturer’sauthorizedmechanicwill
functionasawarrantycertificate.
6WarrantybasedontheconditionssetbyTheElectricalContractors´Associationof
FinlandSTUL.STUL‐warrantyappliestoelectricheatersandcontrolunitsifagreedupon
inwriting.Insuchcases,theconditionsSTULhassetareattachedtothesewarranty
conditions.WhentheuseofSTULwarrantyhasbeenagreedupon,theysupersedethese
warrantyregulations,ifcontradictory.
7Limitationstowarranty:Theproductownermusttakegoodcareoftheproduct.On
receivingtheproduct,theownerisexpectedtocheckthatitdoesnotshowsignsof
damagecausedduringshippingorstorage.Incaseofsuchdamage,theymustcontact
thesalesagentortransportcompanyimmediately.Themanufacturerisnotliablefor
anydamagescausedduringshipping,orbyinappropriatestorage,installationoruse
againstmanufacturer’sinstructions,neglectofmaintenance,ordamagecausedby
placementoftheheaterinaplacewhichdoesnotmeettherecommendationsmadeby
themanufacturer.
8Damagenotifications:Theownerisresponsiblefornotifyingthemanufacturer,thesales
agent,ormanufacturer’sauthorizedmechanicofanydamageormalfunctionassoonas

itappearsandwithin14days.Anywarrantyrelatedclaimsmustbesubmittedwithin14
daysfromtheclosingdateoftheproduct’swarrantyperiod.
9Manufacturer’sactionsregardingwarranty,continuationofwarranty:Inreceiptofa
substantiatedwarrantyclaim,themanufacturerwillrepairorchangetheproduct.Thisis
doneinthemanufacturer’sexpense,andthemanufacturerisfreetoselectthemost
cost‐effectivealternative.Thewarrantyforreplacementpartsisoutlinedabove.The
replacementpartisgrantedwarrantyaccordingtospecifications.Thewarrantyfora
repairedpartcontinuesasbefore.
Themanufacturerisnotliableforreimbursinganyexpenses,businesslossorotherdirectorindirect
harmoccurredtothebuyerfromdamagesormalfunction.
Qualityguarantee/Freightguarantee
Guaranteeofmaterials.Themanufacturerguaranteesthedurabilityofthestainlesssteelparts(resistor
platformandframe)inprivatehomeusefor10years.Duringthewarrantyperiodanydefectsthatappear
intheheater'srawmaterialsorareproduction‐basedwillberepairedfreeofcharge.Forexample,theuse
ofseawaterontheheaterisforbidden.Readthroughtherequirementsforwaterqualityintheinstallations
instructions.
Thewarrantydoesnotcovercolourchanges,slippingorhair‐linefractures,characteristictonaturalstones,
whichdonotaffecttheuseorthesafetyoftheheater.
Damagesoccurredwhileshippingmusttoberecordedinthewaybillwhentheproductisreceivedorwithin
7daysofdelivery.Shippingdamagemustalsoalwaysbereportedtotheshippingcompany’slastcontact.
Thedamagedpartneedstobestoredforinspection.Insurancecompensatesforthenewpart,whichwill
bedeliveredbyapublictransporter.Inallissuesconcerningwarrantycontactthestoretheproductwas
boughtfrom.

Mechanicalventilation
Theventilationinthesaunaroomneedstobeconsidered.Properair‐flowallowsbatherstoenjoyfresh,
oxygen‐richair.Theairshouldfullychange6timesanhour.Thesupplyairinletshouldbeinstalledonthewall
ortheceilingatabout500mmabovetheheater.Thesupplyairventshouldbe50‐100mmindiameter.Theoutlet
ventshouldbelocatedasfarawayfromtheheateraspossible,closetothefloor.Theoutletventshouldbetwicethe
sizeoftheinletvent.

Warnings
1. Stayinginthehotsaunaforlongperiodsincreasesbodytemperature,which
maybedangerous.
2. Keepawayfromtheheaterwhenit'shot.Thestonesandoutersurfaceofthe
heatermayburn.
3. Preventchildrenfromgettingclosetotheheater.
4. Donotleavechildren,handicappedorillpeopletousethesaunawithout
supervision.
5. Consultyourdoctoraboutanyhealthconcernsregardingsauna‐bathing.
6. Consultchildwelfareclinicabouttakinglittlebabiestothesauna.
7. Alwaysmovecarefullyinthesauna,asthebenchesandfloorsmaybe
slippery.
8. Nevergotoahotsaunaundertheinfluenceofalcohol,medicationor
narcotics.
9. Neversleepinahotsauna.
10.Sea‐airandahumidclimatemaycorrodethemetalsurfacesoftheheater.
11.Donothangclothestodryinthesauna,asthismaycauseariskoffire.
Excessivemoisturecontentmayalsocausedamagetotheelectrical
equipment.
