OPERATING AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
READ, UNDERSTAND, AND FOLLOW THIS INFORMATION TO AVOID INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE.
EX ESSIVE AIR PRESSURE

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
HAZARDOUS PRESSURE
WARNING EX ESSIVE AIR PRESSURE. an cause person-
al injury, pump damage or property damage.
SDo not exceed the maximum inlet air pressure as stated on the
pump model plate.
SBe sure material hoses and other components are able to with-
stand fluid pressures developed by this pump. heck all hoses
for damage or wear. Be certain dispensing device is clean and
in proper working condition.
WARNING STATI SPARK. an cause explosion resulting in
severe injury or death. Ground pump and pumping system.
SUse the pump grounding screw terminal provided. Use ARO
part no. 66885-1 ground kit or connect a suitable ground wire
(12 ga. min.) to a good earth ground source.
SSecure pump, connections and all contact points to avoid
vibration and generation of contact or static spark.
Sonsult local building codes and electrical codes for specific
grounding requirements.
SAfter grounding, periodically verify continuity of electrical path
to ground. Test with an ohmmeter from each component (e.g.,
hoses, pump, clamps, container, spray gun, etc.) to ground to
ensure continuity. Ohmmeter should show 0.1 ohms or less.
SSubmerse the outlet hose end, dispensing valve or device in
the material being dispensed if possible. (Avoid free streaming
of material being dispensed.)
SUse hoses incorporating a static wire.
SUse proper ventilation.
SKeep inflammables away from heat, open flames and sparks.
SKeep containers closed when not in use.
WARNING Pump exhaust may contain contaminants. an
cause severe injury. Pipe exhaust away from work area and per-
sonnel.
SIn the event of a diaphragm rupture, material can be forced out
of the air exhaust muffler.
SPipe the exhaust to a safe remote location when pumping haz-
ardous or inflammable materials.
SUse a grounded 1” minimum i.d. hose between the pump and
the muffler.
WARNING HAZARDOUS PRESSURE. an result in serious
injury or property damage. Do not service or clean pump,
hoses or dispensing valve while the system is pressurized.
SDisconnect air supply line and relieve pressure from the sys-
tem by opening dispensing valve or device and / or carefully
and slowly loosening and removing outlet hose or piping from
pump.
WARNING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. an cause serious in-
jury or property damage. Do not attempt to return a pump to the
factory or service center that contains hazardous material.
Safe handling practices must comply with local and national
laws and safety code requirements.
SObtain Material Safety Data Sheets on all materials from the
supplier for proper handling instructions.
WARNING EXPLOSION HAZARD. Models containing alumi-
num wetted parts cannot be used with III.-Trichloroethane, Me-
thylene hloride or other Halogenated Hydrocarbon solvents
which may react and explode.
Sheck pump motor section, fluid caps, manifolds and all
wetted parts to assure compatibility before using with solvents
of this type.
WARNING MISAPPLI ATION HAZARD. Do not use models
containing aluminum wetted parts with food products for hu-
man consumption. Plated parts can contain trace amounts of
lead.
CAUTION Verify the chemical compatibility of the pump
wetted parts and the substance being pumped, flushed or re-
circulated. hemical compatibility may change with tempera-
ture and concentration of the chemical(s) within the
substances being pumped, flushed or circulated. For specific
fluid compatibility, consult the chemical manufacturer.
CAUTION Maximum temperatures are based on mechani-
cal stress only. ertain chemicals will significantly reduce
maximum safe operating temperature. onsult the chemical
manufacturer for chemical compatibility and temperature lim-
its. Refer to PUMP DATA on page 1 of this manual.
CAUTION Be certain all operators of this equipment have
been trained for safe working practices, understand it’s limita-
tions, and wear safety goggles / equipment when required.
CAUTION Do not use the pump for the structural support of
the piping system. Be certain the system components are
properly supported to prevent stress on the pump parts.
SSuction and discharge connections should be flexible connec-
tions (such as hose), not rigid piped, and should becompatible
with the substance being pumped.
CAUTION Prevent unnecessary damage to the pump. Do
not allow pump to operate when out of material for long periods
of time.
SDisconnect air line from pump when system sits idle for long
periods of time.
CAUTION Use only genuine ARO replacement parts to as-
sure compatible pressure rating and longest service life.
NOTICE Replacement warning labels are available upon
request: “Static Spark & Diaphragm Rupture” pn \ 94080.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The ARO diaphragm pump offer high volume delivery even at low air
pre ure and a broad range of material compatibility option available.
Refer to the model and option chart. ARO pump feature tall re i tant
de ign, modular air motor / fluid ection .
Air operated double diaphragm pump utilize a pre ure differential in
the air chamber to alternately create uction and po itive fluid pre ure
in the fluid chamber , valve check en ure a po itive flow of fluid.
Pump cycling will begin a air pre ure i applied and it will continue to
pump and keep up with the demand. It will build and maintain line pre -
ure and will top cycling once maximum line pre ure i reached (di -
pen ing device clo ed) and will re ume pumping a needed.
AIR AND LUBE REQUIREMENTS
WARNING EX ESSIVE AIR PRESSURE. an cause pump
damage, personal injury or property damage.
SA filter capable of filtering out particle larger than 50 micron hould
be u ed on the air upply. There i no lubrication required other than
the “O” ring lubricant which i applied during a embly or repair.
SIf lubricated air i pre ent, make ure that it i compatible with the
Nitrile “O” ring in the air motor ection of the pump.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
SAlway flu h the pump with a olvent compatible with the material
being pumped if the material being pumped i ubject to “ etting up”
when not in u e for a period of time.
SDi connect the air upply from the pump if it i to be inactive for a few
hour .
SThe outlet material volume i governed not only by the air upply but
al o by the material upply available at the inlet. The material upply
tubing hould not be too mall or re trictive. Be ure not to u e ho e
which might collap e.
SWhen the diaphragm pump i u ed in a forced-feed (flooded inlet)
ituation it i recommended that a “Check Valve” be in talled at the
air inlet.
SSecure the diaphragm pump leg to a uitable urface to en ure
again t damage by vibration.
PARTS AND SERVICE KITS
Refer to the part view and de cription a provided on page 4 through 7
for part identification and Service Kit information.
SCertain ARO “Smart Part ” are indicated which hould be available
for fa t repair and reduction of down time.
SService kit are divided to ervice two eparate diaphragm pump
function : 1. AIR SECTION, 2. FLUID SECTION. The FLUID SEC-
TION i divided further to match typical part MATERIAL OPTIONS.
MAINTENANCE
SProvide a clean work urface to protect en itive internal moving
part from contamination from dirt and foreign matter during ervice
di a embly and rea embly.
SKeep good record of ervice activity and include pump in preven-
tive maintenance program.
SBefore di a embling, empty captured material in the outlet man-
ifold by turning the pump up ide down to drain material from the
pump.
FLUID SECTION DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove (61) outlet manifold, (60) inlet manifold.
2. Remove (22) ball , (19) “O” ring (if applicable) and (21) eat .
3. Remove (15) fluid cap .
NOTE: Only PTFE diaphragm model u e a primary diaphragm (7) and
a backup diaphragm (8). Refer to the auxiliary view in the Fluid Section
illu tration.
4. Remove the (6) diaphragm wa her, (7) or (7 / 8) diaphragm , and (5)
backup wa her.
NOTE: Do not cratch or mar the urface of (1) diaphragm rod.
FLUID SECTION REASSEMBLY
SRea emble in rever e order. Refer to the torque requirement on
page 5.
SClean and in pect all part . Replace worn or damaged part with
new part a required.
SLubricate (1) diaphragm rod and (144) “U” cup with LubriplateR
FML-2 grea e (94276 grea e packet i included in ervice kit).
SFor model with PTFE diaphragm : Item (8) Santoprene diaphragm
i in talled with the ide marked “AIR SIDE” toward the pump cen-
ter body. In tall the PTFE diaphragm (7) with the ide marked
“FLUID SIDE” toward the (15) fluid cap.
SRe-check torque etting after pump ha been re- tarted and run a
while.

AIR MOTOR SECTION SERVICE
Service is divided into two parts -- 1. Pilot Valve, 2. Major Valve.
GENERAL REASSEMBLY NOTES:
SAir Motor Section Service i continued from Fluid Section repair.
SIn pect and replace old part with new part a nece ary. Look for
deep cratche on urface , and nick or cut in “O” ring .
STake precaution to prevent cutting “O” ring upon in tallation.
SLubricate “O” ring with Lubriplate FML-2 grea e.
SDo not over-tighten fa tener , refer to torque pecification block on
view.
SRe-torque fa tener following re tart.
SSERVICE TOOLS -- To aid in the in tallation of (168) “O” ring onto
the (167) pilot pi ton, u e tool # 204130-T, available from ARO.
PILOT VALVE DISASSEMBLY
1. A light tap on (118) hould expo e the oppo ite (121) leeve, (167)
pilot pi ton and other part .
2. Remove (170) leeve, in pect inner bore of leeve for damage.
PILOT VALVE REASSEMBLY
1. Clean and lubricate part not being replaced from ervice kit.
2. In tall new (171 and 172) “O” ring , replace (170) leeve.
3. In tall new (168) “O” ring and (169) eal - Note the lip direction. Lu-
bricate and replace (167).
4. Rea emble remaining part , replace (173 and 174) “O” ring .
MAJOR VALVE DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove (135) valve block and (233) adapter plate, expo ing (132
and 166) ga ket , (232) “O” ring and (176) check .
2. Remove (233) adapter plate, relea ing (140) valve in ert, (141)
valve plate, (199 and 200) ga ket and (146, 147 and 232) “O” ring .
3. Remove (136) end cap and (137) “O” ring, relea ing (111) pool.
MAJOR VALVE REASSEMBLY
1. In tall new (138 and 139) “U” cup on (111) pool -- LIPS MUST
FA E EA H OTHER.
2. In ert (111) pool into (135) valve block.
3. In tall (137) “O” ring on (136) end cap and a emble end cap to
(135) valve block, ecuring with (107) end plate and (105) crew .
4. In tall (140) valve in ert and (141) valve plate into (135) valve block.
NOTE: A emble (140) valve in ert with “di hed” ide toward (141)
valve plate. A emble (141) valve plate with 2 identification dot to-
ward (199 and 200) ga ket .
5. A emble (146, 147 and 232) “O” ring , (199 and 200) ga ket and
(233) adapter plate to (135) valve block.
6. A emble (132 and 166) ga ket , (176) check and (232) “O” ring to
(101) body.
7. A emble (135) valve block and component to (101) body, ecur-
ing with (134) crew .

TROUBLESHOOTING
Product discharged from exhaust outlet.
SCheck for diaphragm rupture.
SCheck tightne of (14) diaphragm crew.
Air bubbles in product discharge.
SCheck connection of uction plumbing.
SCheck “O” ring between intake manifold and inlet ide fluid cap .
SCheck tightne of (14) diaphragm crew.
Motor blows air or stalls.
SCheck (176) check valve for damage or wear.
SCheck for re triction in valve / exhau t.
Low output volume, erratic flow, or no flow.
SCheck air upply.
SCheck for plugged outlet ho e.
SCheck for kinked (re trictive) outlet material ho e.
SCheck for kinked (re trictive) or collap ed inlet material ho e.
SCheck for pump cavitation -- uction pipe hould be ized at lea t a
large a the inlet thread diameter of the pump for proper flow if high
vi co ity fluid are being pumped. Suction ho e mu t be a non-col-
lap ing type, capable of pulling a high vacuum.
SCheck all joint on the inlet manifold and uction connection .
The e mu t be air tight.
SIn pect the pump for olid object logged in the diaphragm chamber
or the eat area.
