These instrucons describe the installaon, assembly, operaon, maintenance and fault nding of the Hiper Heat
Interface Unit (HIU). For operaon of the enre plant, the technical documentaon of all the components used
such as, boiler, tank, pumps, pipework and valves must be complied with. Inta does not accept any responsibility for
the design and performance of the heat network or components outside of the HIU.
Installaon should only be carried out by a qualied and competent plumbing installer and a qualied and
competent electrical installer in accordance with the current Building, Water and Electrical Regulaons, Legislaon
and Standards. Do not start installaon unl you have thoroughly read and understood these Assembly and Oper-
ang Instrucons and have complied with all safety provisions.

SECTION 1 - Important informaon and introducon
Heat Interface Units (HIU) deliver heat generated from a centralised heang plant to mulple homes,
apartments or ats. The Inta Hiper HIU interfaces the heat network and dwellings systems through plate heat
exchangers and a control valve regulates the supply of heat to provide hot water (DHWS) and room heang (HTG) to the
dwelling. The Inta Hiper HIU has been developed to this concept with unique control
features to opmise its performance and operaon.
Heat from the main boiler plant is transferred to the home by two plate heat exchangers. One plate heat exchanger (PHE)
provides the hot water supply (DHWS) and the other plate heat exchanger supplies the central heang circuit (CH).
This can be by either radiators or underoor heang, the installer has the opon to commission for either.
HIUs do not generate their own heat so to deliver DHW and CH most suitable for the requirement of the home or apartment it
is the responsibility of the installer and or system designer that the heat network delivers heat at
sucient ow rate and temperature to do so.

Accessories - ‘First Fix Jig’
The installaon plan may require pipe work to be made up to the
posion where the HIU is to be installed, but at this stage not involve
installing the HIU itself. At this ‘rst x’ stage not having the HIU in
posion eliminates risk of damage or even vandalism while the
property is not secure.
Using the Jig allows pipe work to be installed without the HIU and
saves the cost of the purchase of a ‘rst x rail’ for every HIU.
This simple method allows the wall bracket, pipes and isolaon valves
to be posioned. Then the Jig is removed, and the installer moves to
the next installaon and so on, unl all rst x pipe work is in place,
and allowing other trades on site to carry out their work. The HIUs
can be installed simply on to the wall bracket and connect to the
isolaon valves at a planned later date.

5.1 Before installaon read and comply with the following
Comply with all safety provisions.
The Installer’s Responsibility -in accordance with Part L of the Building Regulaons, all hot and
cold water pipes should be labelled and insulated to the current standards.
Installaon should only be carried out by a qualied and competent plumbing installer and a qualied and
competent electrical installer in accordance with the current document Building Regulaons, Legislaon
and Standards.
It is the installer’s responsibility to ensure that the place of installaon and wall is suitable.
An unsuitable locaon or provision of adequate supplies (Primary Heang and Cold Water mains) will not
jusfy any warranty or fault claim;
• The wall must be capable of bearing the weight of the HIU lled with water permanently
• Locaons where access is restricted for maintenance, see page 3.
• The HIU is only for WALL MOUNTING in the orientaon shown in this manual.
• Locaons where criminal damage or illegal tampering cannot be reasonably preventable.
• Locaons where discharge pipe is not able to be safely or legally installed and connected
• Supplies which are not suitably clean, and free from contaminants.
• Supplies which contain chemical contaminants.
• Supplies with inadequate ow or pressure (less than 1.5 bar)
• All cold and hot water pipes must be labelled and insulated in line with Part L of the
Building Regulaons
Cold water mains supply should be protected from excessive high pressures.
A Pressure Reducing Valve is recommended and pre-set to 3 bar.
• Wall xing bolts are to be provided by the installer and be suitable to bear the weight of the HIU perma-
nently when full of water.
• The posion of the HIU should be where the pipe run lengths to DHW outlets are kept to a minimum.

5.2 Consider which installaon method is to be used.

5.3 General installaon notes
• Ensure all hot and cold water pipes are labelled and insulated in accordance with Part L of the build-
ing regulaons.
• The HIU can only be installed in one orientaon, with the heat network connecons at the top, and
in a vercal posion.

5.4 Ensure the chosen installaon site is inside the building, weather proofed and provides good access for mainte-
nance, minimum requirements as on page 3. Note where and which pipe connecons will be

5.5 Making sure the wall the HIU is to be mounted on complies with 5.1, mark up the posion for the wall bracket. The
posion of the HIU is to be on a true vercal plane as in 5.3. Drill and plug the wall, and secure the HIU with suitable
wall xings (not provided with the HIU).

5.9 For lling the Heang Circuit for the radiators or UFH, the lling
valves and connecng pipes are integral to the HIU.
This may be removed while pipe work and isolaon valves are made
good. Ret when commissioning.
On compleon of lling the heang the temporary connecon pipe
between cold Water supply should be removed, and le for later use
inside the HIU.

5.10 Stand o brackets create a space behind the
HIU that can be used to run pipes in.
The stand o brackets are 40mm o the wall allow-
ing for 13mm pipe insulaon thickness.
First aach the brackets using 4 x xing screws to
the back of the HIU in the matching xing holes pro-
vided.
Fit the wall bracket as in 5.6 and per 5.1
Then hang the HIU as in diagram 5.6, but this me
using the outer wall bracket hooks.

5.11 Safety valve discharge pipe.
The safety valve has a 1/2” F threaded connecon for 15mm pipe to
be connected to (15mm x 1/2” M compression coupling to be provid-
ed by the installer).
The discharge pipe should have a connuous fall and conform to
BS6798.
Where the pipe empes into a drain then that area must be frost free,
and consideraon as to a trap being include as well as a tundish to
maintain any discharge is fully visible. Discharge connecon

5.12 Accessory opon - pre-formed pipes
Also available are me saving pipes which are formed to run behind the HIU
and make all the connecon from above
The isolaon valve kit that can be used for this are 3/4” MxM union nuts, and
seal with bre washers., and can be ed either below or above the HIU.
First aach the brackets using 4 x xing screws to the back of the HIU in the
matching xing holes provided.
Fit the wall bracket as in 5.6 and per 5.1
Fit the stand o brackets as per 5.10
The isolaon can be connected either;
• Below the HIU
• Above the HIU
Hang the HIU as in diagram 5.6, using the outer wall bracket hooks.

5.16 Checklist before lling
Check Connecons!
• Flow and Return in correct posions?
• All union nuts have been ghtened, and a visual inspecon expects them to be water ght.
• All union nuts inside are ghtened, and a visual inspecon expects them to be water ght.
All isolaon valves in the closed posion
• Safety valve discharge pipe to the safety valve.
• Safety valve discharge pipe installaon conforms to Building Regulaons. (pipework to comply with current
Building regulaons and refer to BS6798)
All drain valves and air vent valves are closed.
The HIU installaon on the wall is secure and conforms to the instrucons in 5.1 and 5.4
If a ush bypass kit has been installed, it is in the closed posion

5.14 Flushing Bypass Kits - instrucons for KIT A
• See secon 6, HIU wiring complete. HIU turned o to close the PICV.
• All HIU’s on this circuit must be ushed using this method at the same me.
• Close the isolaon valves as shown, and empty of water through the drain valve into a bowl.
• remove test port plugs.
• Install the kit adaptors making water ght seal on the O rings of the adaptors.
• Fix the ushing pipe in posion as shown, ghten the union nuts making a water ght seal with the bre washers provided.
• Open the isolaon valves for system ushing.
• When the ushing operaon is nished, close the isolaon valves as shown below, and empty water through the drain
valve again.
• Now remove and clean the lter mesh by undoing and removing the lter cap.
• Replace the now clean lter mesh, replace a the lter cap. This is part of commissioning secon 8, part 4. Sign complete.
• Remove and store the ushing pipe, replace the test plugs and make water ght. Do not over ghten on the O rings.
• Fill the HIU, ready for commissioning.

6.1 Before electrical connecon read and comply with the following.
Comply with all safety provisions.
Installaon should only be carried out by a competent electrical installer and the installaon con-
form to all IEE regulaons
6.2 The installer is to provide a 230vAC 3 amp fused supply as per BS EN 7671:2008. Entry for cables is provided by 3 x cable
glands located beneath the HIU ( at the rear, LHS).
Live, neutral and earth connecons as per the diagram below.
6.3 Room thermostat connecon as per the diagram below. This is a 2 core cable connecon and VOLT FREE.
The room thermostat switching posion is NORMALLY OPEN (though this can be changed to normally closed in the installer
level programming of the controller which is covered in the separate programming manual).
Note that the Room thermostat switching must be VOLT FREE !!
Note that the billing connecon for pre-payment funcon must be VOLT FREE !!

all the parameters which can be programmed are in a separate document that is not to be le with the
end user as misuse of these set parameters my cause the HIU to not operate as eciently as

Ref Checklist - Maintenance Remarks /Notes

If leaving the installaon while maintenance is in progress noces should be

4Check all strainers, including lters ed on the cold water mains supply.
This may also include Pressure Reducing Valves with integral strainer cartridges.
Always isolate any components before maintenance.
5Central Heang side of the HIU - check the safety valve discharges by twisng the
cap. Check the safety valve re-seats and seals.
6Central Heang side of the HIU - check the expansion vessel pressure and adjust
or recharge to 0.75 bar.
7PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS - MAINTENANCE
Special aenon should be given to the plate heat exchangers, recent reported
loss of performance may be caused by dirty or blocked plates (lime scale).

Aer cleaning (or replacing) ret both plate heat exchangers. .
8Check all drain valves are closed, open isolaon valves and REFILL (secondary and
primary), check for leaks and vent air from the systems.

Ref REPORTED ISSUES Trouble Shoong Checklist
1The water from the hot taps is COLD.
First check………..Is the unit going into hot water mode?
No ow or insucient ow through the ow sensor or ow sensor
not working.?
• Is there power to the HIU?
• Possible blockages – if there is heat coming into the HIU
from the communal heang system, follow the path
through the Strainer, PICV, Diverter ?
• Plate Heat Exchanger blockage, possibly scale. If suspect-
ed take the necessary steps to remove and clean (Fig 8B
in the Secon Maintenance)
Once blockages are cleared, then reconnect the unit, and fol-
low the commissioning instrucons.
2There is NO WATER at the Hot Taps. • Is there water at the cold taps? If not, check the mains
stop tap. If it is found to be closed, open it and check the
fault is resolved.
• Are the HIU isolaon valves open or closed?
If not check for blockages on the cold water supply pipe.
Check all lters and clean if blocked.
3Insucient Hot Water at the taps, but no error codes at the
Controller
First check ………….. Is it a ow or temperature problem?
Is the primary ow sucient?
Low primary ow caused poor or no DHW performance!
If all checks prove the HIU is working correctly,
• Is there a bypass ed on the primary before the HIU,
and it has been le open? CLOSE the valve, the HIU will
now work as designed.
• Is the TMV set at the correct temperature? Has it been
tampered with or reset in error? Set to 57C
• Is there enough FLOW at the HIU? If the supply pumps
have not been designed to the required ow of the HIU,
then DHWS will not be sucient
• Similar for pipework, if not sized correctly, the HIU will
not be able to deliver to its designed output
4• No Room Heang
• Radiators are COLD.
• Under Floor Heang is installed Floor is COLD.
• No Room Heang or Hot Water
• Check the ambient temperature. Is the reason that the
room thermostat seng is too low to switch on the
heang?
• system low pressure. Has the safety valve discharged?
Check system pressure and top up if necessary.
• Air blockage in the radiators
• Check the Circulang Pump (see LED lights on the pump
which can warn of a problem or a fault). Is the pump fully
operaonal?
• Is the controller set up correctly? See Installer sengs
• Is the Room thermostat wired correctly? Is it working?
• Check that the communal heang is supplying heat to the
unit
• Check then that the isolaon valves to the unit are open.
• Is the Bypass Valve open on the valve above the HIIU?
5The Control mode seems to be stuck in either Heang or Hot wa-
ter funcon, and wont change even if either the room stat or ow
switch is disconnected.
• A PCB in the Controller is damaged. Look for the cause
rst before replacing. Usual suspect is that a 230v supply
has been connect in error to a zero volt connecon,
either the T1 / T2 connecon for the room stat or on the
AUX plug for pre-payment connecon
