FCC Part 15 Compliance Statement
This product has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B
digital device pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to
provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is
operated in a residential environment.
This product generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if
not installed and used in accordance with this user manual, may cause harmful
interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that
interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause
harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined
by turning this equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the
interference by one or more of the following measures:
Change the direction of the radio or TV antenna.•
To the extent possible, relocate the radio, TV, or other receiver away from•
the product.

Safety Precautions
This section covers the important safety information about the Intel®Portable
Capture Station (Capture Station).Please read, follow, and keep these
instructions and observe all warnings.
To avoid electric shock:
Do not spill liquid on the Capture Station or allow it to get wet. Do not•
operate the Capture Station near water.
Do not use the Capture Station in the kitchen or bathroom.•

Do not attempt to take apart the Capture Station. There are no user•
serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to qualied service personnel.
Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such
as when the power cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects
have fallen into the Capture Station, or the Capture Station has been exposed
to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
Do not connect or disconnect any cables, perform installation of the Capture•
Station, or operate the Capture Station during an electrical storm or when
lightning is present in the area.
Use only the power cord and power adapter provided with the Capture•
Station. Power supplies can have similarly sized and shaped connectors, so
verify that you are using the right one.
Do not defeat the safety purpose of the grounding-type plug. A grounding-•
type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong/or contact. If the
provided plug does not t into your socket, consult an electrician for a proper
replacement.
Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs,•
convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the Capture
Station.
The AC power cord on the power adapter is the primary disconnect device for•
the system. Ensure that the cord is accessible.
Check the power cord periodically for fraying or other damage.•

Only use attachments and accessories recommended or specied by the•
manufacturer.
The Capture Station is classied as Class I Equipment for protection against•
electric shock.
WARNING: Do not attempt to modify or use the supplied AC
power cord if it is not the exact type and rating required.
Refer to the Intel®Reader User Manual for safety warnings and information about
the Reader.
To avoid personal injury or injury to others:
Do not set up or use the Capture Station near any heat sources such as•
radiators, stoves, or other devices that produce heat.
Keep all ammable materials a safe distance from the Capture Station and its•
power supply.
Route the cables and connections to reduce the possibility of creating a•
strangulation, entanglement, or tripping hazard.
Do not press the arm release button unless you have a rm grasp of the arm•
of the Capture Station. Failure to grasp the arm could cause injury to yourself
or damage to the Capture Station or the Reader.
When carrying the Capture Station in its carrying case, securely grip the case•
handle to avoid dropping the Capture Station.

Keep your hands and ngers away from the hinged portion of the Capture•
Station arm when it locks into place.
Keep your hands away from the capture button when you release and lower•
the Capture Station arm.
Do not lean on or apply excessive pressure to the cradle. These actions could•
cause the Capture Station to fall over.
Recycling
Do not dispose of the Capture Station or accessories in a landll or other disposal
site where harm to the environment might occur. Instead, follow local procedures
for recycling electronic equipment and packaging materials.

About the Portable Capture Station
The Capture Station holds the Reader while you capture images of a large number
of pages. When the Reader is placed in the Capture Station, the camera can view
everything placed on the base, even large-sized materials such as textbooks and
magazines. For information about the Reader, see the Intel®Reader User Manual.
TIP: There is an audio and digital talking book version of this manual and the
quick start guide on the CD that comes with the Capture Station.

A power adapter and power cord. This power adapter and power cord are•
interchangeable with the power adapter and power cord that come with the
Reader.

Parts of the Capture Station
The Cradle and Connectors
The cradle, located at the top of the Capture Station arm, secures the Reader to
the Capture Station. The cradle also provides three connectors that connect the
Reader to a power source and to other devices, such as a computer or a mouse.
These connectors are on the bottom edge of the cradle, on the right side. To
connect the Reader to another device or a power source, push the appropriate
connector up. The connectors are:
The mini-USB connector, on the left, connects the Reader to the Capture•
Station. It is marked by one raised dot.

The standard USB connector, in the middle, connects the Capture Station•
to another USB device, such as a keyboard. It is marked by two raised dots.
The power connector, on the right, keeps the Reader charged. It is marked•
by three raised dots.
The Arm
The arm connects the cradle to the base of the Capture Station. At the top of the
arm is the cradle. Toward the bottom of the arm, at the back, are three ports that
connect the Capture Station to a mini-USB, standard USB, and power source.

The Base
The base of the Capture Station is a at surface that holds the printed material.
The base contains the page holder, a at strip that lies across the base. At each
side of the page holder are the page holder arms, which you use to raise and
lower the page holder as you insert and remove the printed material.
Setting Up the Capture Station
Take the Capture Station out of the box and remove any protective1.

Place the Capture Station on a work surface, with the handle pointing up.2.
Make sure the sloped side of the handle is facing away from you. The work
surface should be large enough to support the entire base. A surface at
least 24 inches long and 18 inches wide (60 cm long and 45 cm wide) is
sufcient.

Locate the sliders along the top edge of the case. They are marked with3.
small indented arrows. Pull the sliders toward you, being careful not to
pinch your ngers or hands.
